Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels, who dated the rapper for 11 years before their recent breakup, is telling all, and what he’s telling isn’t pretty. In a lengthy interview Tuesday, Samuels talked about the nature of his notoriously private relationship with the rapper, claiming he “walked away” from her. “I’m not going to say I broke up, but I’m the one who walked away,” he says. “I packed up my stuff and I left. If I wanted to make it work, I could’ve.” Samuels, who says his role was “everything” to the “Anaconda” rapper, alleges he ended the relationship with Minaj because the “respect wasn’t there.” “Everyone around her works for her, you know?” he explains. “So it got to the point where it was like, ‘I’m your man.'” “‘I’m who you go to sleep with. That was my soul mate. People thought I was just a hype man, nah. Me and her was the ones calling all the shots.” So Samuels says he dumped Minaj … and wrote her raps . “Every time it came to music, it was her, me, and the beat,” he says. “She doesn’t do it by herself. It’s me and her. Don’t discredit me on what I’ve done for you.” Samuels says he’s only speaking out because of a tweet of Nicki’s, in which she calls him “corny.” Minaj also reportedly called him an evil, ungrateful soul . “When you try and pull me down and discredit what I’ve done for you, that’s what’s weak to me. I would never do anything publicly to pull her down.” Nicki herself referenced the intense breakup in the interview for her January Rolling Stone cover, admitting that her ex heavily influenced her latest album.
