Falling from a cliff to your death is already horrible, but to be eaten by vultures? SMH. Woman Eaten By Vultures After Falling From Cliff According to Inquistr The 52-year-old woman was hiking with her friends in the Pyrenees when she fell to her death, over 1,000 feet from the hiking trail. Aggressive Griffon vultures consumed her entire body before she could be reached by rescue workers. Rescue workers circled the area for around 45 minutes, trying to locate the hiker’s body. Unfortunately it was too late. As reported by MSN, the woman was eaten by vultures before her body could be recovered. By the time they found the woman, they could only recover her shoes, clothing and a few bones. Major Didier Pericou states that the rescue workers noticed vultures circling the area, but they never thought they would find the woman before they did. Aggressive vultures have become an increasing problem in France. Historically, the scavengers would feed on carcasses left by French farmers. However, European safety and health regulations have changed through the years, making it illegal to leave animal carcasses out on the land. As reported by IBT, Farmers are now forced to burn any animals that have died in their care, eliminating the food source. Authorities think this may explain why the 52-year-old woman was eaten by the vultures. As the vultures’ food has disappeared, they have been blamed for deadly attacks on livestock. Over 40 farmers have filed claims for reimbursement. Vultures are a protected species, so the farmers are forbidden from killing the aggressive birds. Their protected status, along with depleted food sources, are causing some serious problems for french residents. Some residents suggest that farmers should be allowed to leave the carcasses on the land, or should be given permission to shoot the vultures that threaten their animals. Although the birds have grown increasingly aggressive, this has been the first report of a human being eaten by vultures. Damn. Her family can’t even have a proper funeral because her body is gone. So, this is what it takes to have a issue with Kate Upton photos . PETA has set its annoying sights on the model after seeing pictures of her posing for a Harper’s Bazaar spread titled “The Animal Nursey.” It features the absurdly attractive 20-year old surrounded by such critters as a baby tiger, a leopard, a gibbon and a lion. Railed PETA in a statement: “We’re sure that Kate, like most people, doesn’t know that wild animals used for photo shoots have been taken away from their mothers at birth and deprived of everything that is natural and important to them. The gibbon featured in the photographs is an infant and should be with his mother at all times. “Besides the emotional trauma that he has undoubtedly suffered as a result of the separation, his delicate immune system is still developing, and he is susceptible to illnesses that humans carry. “All the animals in the photographs are endangered and should be protected, rather than being treated like props.” Miami’s Zoological Wildlife Foundation provided the gibbon in question, however, and a spokesperson tells E! : “Our animal our not taught to do tricks. They simply are raised with dignity, much love and respect. PETA’s comment about them being ‘ripped off their mothers from the wild’ is at best ludicrous.” Moreover, it’s clear at least one one unusual animal is a fan of Upton: Wolverine point guard Spike Albrecht Tweeted at the Michigan native yesterday!
Bradley Cooper’s past comes back to haunt him in The Silver Linings Playbook . Check out what’s playing at the movie theatre that serves as a backdrop for an emotional confrontation between Cooper and co-star Jennifer Lawrence. It’s Midnight Meat Train , a pre-stardom cult curio in Cooper’s career. It’s a nifty visual in-joke — perpetrated by Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell — that may escape those unfamiliar with Cooper’s oeuvre or are too wrapped up in the intense scene to notice. After the jump you’ll find a representative sampling of some you may have missed and things to watch and listen for so you don’t. What’s Playing? Movie marquees and posters have long been handy props for filmmakers to sneak in a visual aside. In Lethal Weapon , a marquee displays the The Lost Boys , (“This summer’s hit”), which director Richard Donner executive produced. The Kiefer Sutherland vampire classic would not be release until four months after Lethal Weapon, however. In Back to the Future Part II , the main attraction in 2015 at Hill Valley’s Holomax theatre is Jaws 19 (“This time, it’s really, really personal”) directed by Max Spielberg, the son of BTTF executive producer Steven. Richard Benjamin paid homage to his wife in Made in America with a theater marquee announcing a Paula Prentiss retrospective. For the “Thriller” music video, John Landis (more on him later) couldn’t resist displaying a poster for his first film, Schlock , at the theatre where Michael Jackson and his date see a horror movie.
Let us weep for Rainbow the miniature Hobbit pony, whom animal wranglers on Peter Jackson ‘s Hobbit trilogy say was the first of 27 animals to die while being housed on a production farm filled with “death traps.” “When I arrived at work in the morning, the pony was still alive but his back was broken. He’d come off a bank at speed and crash-landed,” wrangler Chris Langridge told the AP. “He was in a bad state.” Langridge and fellow former and current Hobbit animal wranglers aim to blow the lid off of what they allege were unsafe housing conditions for their animal charges, up to 150 of which were kept at the same Wellington, NZ farm during Hobbit filming. The American Humane Association monitored animal safety on set and investigated the farm following the first few animal deaths, making safety recommendations that were subsequently employed by the production company. Still, it’s hard to ignore the gruesome details of how some of the Hobbit horses, goats, and chickens died. Pour out some mead for these poor creatures, who are grazing for eternity in the Middle Earth in the sky: – Rainbow the miniature, euthanized after suffering a broken back – Claire the horse, who was found with her “head submerged in a stream after it fell over a bluff.” – Zeppelin the horse, whose records say died from natural causes, but: “Smythe said the horse was bloated and its intestines were full of a yellow liquid; he believes it died of digestive problems caused by new feed.” – Six goats and six sheep who perished “after falling into sinkholes, contracting worms or getting new feed after the grass was eaten.” – Twelve chickens who were mauled to death by dogs. – Doofus the horse and Molly the horse, who actually survived after cutting themselves on fencing. Jackson’s camp, meanwhile, is downplaying the death toll. “We do know those deaths were avoidable and we took steps to make sure it didn’t happen again,” said Jackson’s rep. PETA is planning protests at the Hobbit premieres in New Zealand later this month and in the U.S. and the U.K. prior to the December release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey . [AP via EW ]
We don’t think this is the kind of man-eating pu**y that Nelly Furtado was singing about… Police In Nepal Fear Man-Eating Leopard Has Killed 15 People Via CNN A ferocious leopard may have killed 15 people in Nepal in a 15-month span, its latest victim a 4-year-old boy that the creature dragged away into the jungle to eat. The head of boy was found in the forest a kilometer from his home Saturday morning, said Kamal Prasad Kharel, the police chief of the Baitadi district, an area about 600 kilometers (373 miles) west of Kathmandu. The grisly discovery, which came after teams of people searched for the child, marks the 15th victim in the past 15 months in that remote district in western Nepal. The police chief suspects that a single man-eating leopard is responsible for the deaths. If not, there are at most two of the man-eating creatures around, he believes. Maheshwor Dhakal, an ecologist at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation in Kathmandu, agreed that it is unusual to find more than one or two man-eating animals in one area. Most leopards live on wild prey. Why are the leopards eating humans you ask? “Since human blood has more salt than animal blood, once wild animals get the taste of salty blood they do not like other animals like deer,” Dhakal said. Oh, so we’re just tastier than deers and whatnot, gotcha…SMH Of the 15 victims in Nepal so far, two-thirds are children below the age of 10. The others are older children and a 29-year-old woman who had gone to collect fodder for domestic animals in the nearby forest, a common practice in Nepal… …”In the case of the children it just leaves behind the head, eating everything, but some parts of the adult body are left behind because it cannot finish it,” Kharel added. That is as sad as it is digusting. Hopefully they find this leopard before he drags some little kid in the woods on some Sandusky isht. Image via Shutterstock
The final set of 48 original contestants performed on America’s Got Talent last night. How did your favorite fare? David “The Bullet” Smith – I don’t understand why David even has to wear a helmet; if things go awry, I doubt it would help things. His act was pre-taped, since it would have been much darker if it was actually 8 p.m. The setup took too long with the cheerleaders, but I credit him for trying to fill 90 seconds. He shot correctly, albeit a little further than the middle of the net. Grade: B+ All That! – No one is going to remind us that All That (without the exclamation point) has auditioned before and has lost. One of the members used the word “fight scene” and I was cautious. The group looked like the United Colors of Benetton (or an A capella group). Sure they were clean and their formations were great, up until the fight scene. If the group wanted to show masculinity, the fight scene looked gay. Grade: B Ulysses – Ulysses lost all his hair, so he got a wig. He was smart enough to get backup dancers, similar to Big Barry. His version of “Bandstand Boogie” was decent; the dancers were decent. Occasionally Ulysses had breathing issues, but I thought he didn’t deserve to be X-ed out. He wasn’t like Big Barry who was off-key. Grade: C+ Joe Castillo – Joe had a great story about how his father influenced him. Joe started with the Earth and I was happy to see the use of colors to emphasize each of his animals he made. Anyone who draws pandas also gets extra credit. I love that he uses both hands to draw. Grade: A- Sebastien “El Charro de Oro” – Mariachi is beautiful, and culturally amazing, but there’s something similar to LionDanceMe where there’s a cultural boundary where both acts can’t become mainstream. You’re either going to accept them or not. Sebastien’s lower register hasn’t really come in so it sounded weaker than it should. When he hits the high notes, those are amazing. He ended on a very strong high note and it won over everyone. Grade: A- Eric Dittelman – Eric shifted from magic to mind reading somewhere in high school and admitted to mind-reading being a bit flawed. He did an act that involved a “Deal or No Deal” and it worked wonders. I loved the drama and interaction that Dittleman did and made a small-scale mental act Vegas-sized. Grade: A William Close – William has 15 years of experience behind his belt and it shows. It’s smart that he has a band surrounding him because hearing a violin-esque instrument for 90 seconds could be annoying. The spinning drums were also cool and showed development. I’m still not sure where the strings were attached to, but he did everything that he could to fight for a spot. Grade: A Unity in Motion – We’re reminded that Turf was supposed to be intimidated by Unity in Motion. It seems like the group has two intense Abby Lee Miller-style choreographers. The girls were clean and they remind me a lot of the British winning troupe Spellbound. Unity in Motion had great presentation, didn’t show any flaws and maintained their grace. Grade: A Eric & Olivia – The music clicked for the two of them instantly in college, Eric’s responsible for the arrangements. The two were placed on a difficult night to stand out. Olivia or the band seemed a bit off key in the beginning. In a season of generally weak singers, Olivia’s voice is distinctive and has warmth, but she was squeaking at points. Grade: B- Lindsey Norton – Lindsey sounds like a stereotypical high school student, but she seems to be mentally prepared for the competition. She used the mirrored effect to emphasize her routine, which isn’t uncommon, but shows interesting angles of flexibility. She did some great rolling moves and she upped her game, I wished that she would stop mugging for the camera. Grade: B+ Horse – Recently on TLC’s Strange Sex , there was a guy with a 160-pound scrotum. He claimed it was because he felt a sudden pain and then it started swelling and never stopped. This is now what I imagine for Horse. One day a kick is going to go wrong and he’ll have a 160-pound scrotum. At least he has kids already. Horse did a superhero theme, which helped with the pants on TV requirement. Several of the hits were actually thigh shots, but luckily the high jump was a perfect hit. The see-saw slammed into his face and he ended up bleeding in the face. Grade: B Olate Dogs – Olate has a great combination of talent and one of those “American Dream” storylines. The dogs were adorable and even with minor mistakes, are you going to fault the dogs? I can’t jump a hurdle. The slide was a bit silly until the end with the adorable backwards slide. It was a genius way to end the show. Grade: A In the end, I’ve only eliminated three acts: All That!, Eric & Olivia, and Ulysses. All the other acts have shots of making it into the top three depending on how America votes. Does Unity in Motion have a whole ton of friends that could get them votes? Is there a large Mexican voting sect that I’ve never seen before? We’ll find out.
This week on the boob tube, Mary-Louise Parker treated us to some unexpected full nudity during a moonlit skinny-dip on Weeds . Plus, Jessica Clark’s full-frontal reveal on True Blood is enough to wake the dead, and Al Pacino’s gal pal Lucila Sol a flashes a few frames of ass on Political Animals .
Michael Vick appeared on Pies Morgan Tonight yesterday and said he’d be interesting in adopting a new puppy for his children, telling the host: “I can’t take that dream away from them. That’s selfish on my behalf.” But the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) sees things very differently, releasing a statement in response and calling out the Eagles quarterback – who spent 19 months in prison for dogfighting – for even considering such an idea.
American Student Doing Research At Jane Goodall Institute In Critical Condition After Chimpanzee Attack This man just learned a horrible lesson about wild animals : Chimpanzees at a sanctuary for the animals in eastern South Africa pulled an American working there into their enclosure, bit him severely and dragged him nearly a half mile (kilometer), according to a paramedic official and local media reports. The man was leading a tour group at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden near Nelspruit, some 180 miles (300 kilometers) from Johannesburg, Thursday when two chimpanzees grabbed his feet and pulled him under a fence into their enclosure, Jeffrey Wicks of the Netcare911 medical emergency services company said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press on Friday. Mediclinic Nelspruit, the hospital where he was taken, said Friday he was in intensive care in critical condition after undergoing surgery Thursday. The man had “multiple and severe bite wounds” and was dragged nearly a kilometer by the chimpanzees, Wicks said. Beeld, a South African newspaper, reported Friday that the man was an American researcher who was giving tourists a lecture at the time of the attack. The tourists were escorted to safety by staff members as the chimpanzees dragged the man out of their enclosure, Beeld reported. The sanctuary’s director fired into the air to scare the chimps away from the man, and then chased the animals back into their enclosure. Beeld reported the man lost part of an ear and parts of his fingers. The international institute founded by renowned primatologist Jane Goodall opened the sanctuary in 2006. It is a home to chimpanzees, which are not native to South Africa, rescued from further north in Africa. Some of the chimpanzees at the sanctuary lost their parents to poachers in countries where they are hunted for their meat, and others were held in captivity in cruel conditions as little more than roadside attractions. In the United States this week, lawyers for Charla Nash, a Connecticut woman who was attacked in 2009 by a friend’s 200-pound chimpanzee, filed papers accusing state officials of failing to seize the animal before the mauling despite a staff member’s warning that it was dangerous. The chimpanzee ripped off Nash’s nose, lips, eyelids and hands before being killed by police. Nash was left blinded, and received life-changing face transplant in 2010. She is still waiting for a successful hand transplant. There’s no getting his ear and fingers back, but we hope this guy is able to make a full recovery otherwise. Hit the flip for graphic photos of Charla Nash before and after the chimp attack and face transplant. WARNING, it’s not a pretty sight.
An Afghan woman who once graced the cover of TIME Magazine after being mutilated for trying to flee her Taliban husband is still struggling with her new life. Via RadarOnline reports : An Afghan woman who became the face of Taliban brutality after her husband and in-laws hacked off her nose and ears has not had a Hollywood happy ending despite the global spotlight on her plight. Aesha was catapulted to infamy when she appeared on the August 2010 cover of Time magazine unashamed of the butchered face that she received as punishment for trying to run away from an abusive marriage in the war-torn country. After she hit newsstands all over the country, the teenager was thrust into the celebrity lifestyle hobnobbing with movie stars and politicians, and even being offered free reconstructive surgery by the Grossman Burn Foundation, a humanitarian medical group in the Los Angeles area, reported CNN.com. Despite the glitz and glamour, it soon became obvious that there were deep emotional scars that went beyond even the atrocious physical torture she endured and the pretty brunette began fighting with the families who took her in, had fits where she shook, went stiff and her eyes rolled back in her head, or bit herself, screamed and pulled out her hair. Doctors decided she was too unstable to undergo surgery and Aesha (which is also spelled Aisha) was ultimately hospitalized and the charity Women for Afghan Women had to step in to care for her. Since becoming the poster child for 15 million Afghan women, Aesha was suddenly kept out of the public eye and even Oprah’s attempts at an interview were rejected. “We’re hoping she’ll spread her wings,” said Esther Hyneman, 73, a retired professor of women’s and multicultural studies and longtime Women for Afghan Women volunteer who became Aesha’s unofficial guardian. “But when you’re 20 years old, from a village in Taliban-controlled southern Afghanistan where you’ve never been to school and can’t read or write in your own language, and you’ve never heard of France or Italy or Canada, and you don’t speak the language in the country you’re living in, and you’ve been through hell – it’s a little hard to spread your wings, even if you want to do it.” While living in a small ground-floor apartment in New York, Aesha was being schooled by her patient mentor, Ariela Perlman, who normally works with emotionally disturbed fifth-graders, and was teaching the girl who is even illiterate in her native language of Pashto, to read and write in English. Born in a village in southern Afghanistan, Aesha didn’t even know the days of the week, not to litter, or how to board a subway. “She loves physical affection, which is really sweet — except when you’re trying to type, and you have a 20-year-old sitting in your lap,” Kelly Becker-Smith, who works with volunteers at the Women for Afghan Women office told CNN, while another teacher had pulled muscles in her back and legs pushing her “giant little girl” on a swing. It is the kind of loving attention that was severely lacking in her previous life where she was offered up for marriage to a Taliban family to even out a family score. After being beaten and forced to sleep with the animals, she ran away but was hunted down, tossed in prison and a court ruled that she should be mutilated for dishonoring her husband’s family. Trying to fit in to life in the Big Apple was a major challenge for Aesha due to erratic mood swings and strange unsocial habits that caused a string of roommates to flee. While the noise of an ice cream van would cause her to run in fear, she watches online videos of Taliban members cursing, shooting and beating women when she’s feeling low. Desperately missing being part of a family, Aesha, now 22, abruptly left New York and is currently living with Mati Arsala and Jamila Rasouli-Arsala in Frederick, Maryland. “She’s a trauma patient,” Jamila said. “If you want to help, you have to have a very thick skin… There’s no room in her heart for appreciation.” The couple has vowed to keep her with them until the overgrown child can stand up on her own. Trauma is a muhfugga! We’re keeping Aesha in our prayers. Hopefully she can heal from the abuse someday and get the surgery. It’s interesting because in the CNN article they show her prosthetic nose which she only wore briefly. Do you think she will ever get the surgery? It seems like she’s comfortable with her appearance the way it is. More photos and info at CNN.com
