Yet another shooting at Fort Hood military base… Shooting Reported At Fort Hood In Texas A military base is suppose to be a very secure place and yet they have psychos running loose with guns. SMH. via NY Times As many as four people were killed and 14 were wounded after a gunman in uniform opened fire at Fort Hood on Wednesday, shutting down the sprawling Army base and inciting a huge police response, a member of Congress said. The shooting echoed the deadly rampage carried out there in 2009 by an officer who turned on his fellow soliders. Officials at Fort Hood released few details about the shooting but said that it appeared that the gunman was among the dead. On a conference call with reporters, Mr. McCaul said the authorities had identified the suspect as Ivan Lopez but that a motive for the shooting remained unclear. The shooter was wearing an Army uniform, but it was unclear whether he was on active duty, Mr. McCaul said. In Chicago, President Obama described the shooting as a fluid situation that White House and Pentagon officials were closely following. “We are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened,” the president said. “We’re heartbroken something like this might have happened again.” Gun contol in this country is a must. As if you weren’t starting to hate selfies enough, that spontaneous one between President Barack Obama and Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is a fake. Phone maker Samsung confirms that it signed a promotional deal with the World Series MVP just in time for the Red Sox team visit to the White House. The Korean company’s Twitter account posted Ortiz’s photo Tuesday: The company famously pulled a similar stunt in March with Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie , which went viral and featured a collection of Hollywood stars. Before anyone learned that Ellen’s impromptu-looking A-list picture was a sly Samsung promotional idea, it became the most re-tweeted image EVER. Samsung said in a statement to the Boston Globe: “It was an honor to help him capture such an incredible and genuine moment of joy and excitement. At least 4 people were killed and 14 more were injured when a gunmen opened fire at the Ford Hood Army base in Killeen, Texas. This is the second such incident on the base in 5 years. The deaths were confirmed by US Rep. Michael McCaul who also stated that the suspected shooter, Ivan Lopez is among the deceased. No possible motives were given for the rampage allegedly orchestrated by Lopez, an active-duty soldier who worked as an Army truck driver. The incident marks the third shooting at a US Army post in less than 7 months. The previous shooting at Fort Hood resulted in 13 deaths and more than 30 injuries. Nadal Malik Hasan was sentenced to death for that 2009 killing spree. Army officials issued a statement earlier emphasizing that they are still investigating today’s incident and details regarding how and why this shooting took place are still forthcoming. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, speaking with reporters in Honolulu, called the shooting a “terrible tragedy.” When asked about the need for additional security on US military posts he added, “Obviously, when we have these kinds of tragedies on our bases, something’s not working.”
