So Sports Illustrated held their big star-studded 50th Anniversary shindig the other night and once again, yours truly wasn’t invited. Even though the only thing I love more than super-hot swimsuit models is an open bar. Anyway, since I was forced to watch from home instead, here’s my personal favorite shot from the telecast, of Marisa Miller . Granted, it’s not as great as getting to see this in person, but it is a lot easier to stare at for five straight minutes without seeming like a giant weirdo. So at least there’s that. Enjoy.
Apparently the show Power Rangers is still on TV, and the hot ones are still just as hot as you remembered. Because here’s Ciara Hanna putting on a pretty great leg show after leaving the studio, and according to my sources (AKA my friends who have kids), she plays the Yellow Power Ranger. First Black Woman Arrested For Giving Up Her Seat Speaks Out Did you know that the actual first black female arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person was a 15-year-old girl by the name of Claudette Colvin? NPR gathered a few facts on her story a few years back and among other reasons, she said she believes her dark skin played a part in her lack of recognition for the brave act. Take a look below. via NPR Few people know the story of Claudette Colvin: When she was 15, she refused to move to the back of the bus and give up her seat to a white person — nine months before Rosa Parks did the very same thing. Most people know about Parks and the Montgomery, Ala., bus boycott that began in 1955, but few know that there were a number of women who refused to give up their seats on the same bus system. Most of the women were quietly fined, and no one heard much more. Colvin was the first to really challenge the law. Now a 69-year-old retiree, Colvin lives in the Bronx. She remembers taking the bus home from high school on March 2, 1955, as clear as if it were yesterday. The bus driver ordered her to get up and she refused, saying she’d paid her fare and it was her constitutional right. Two police officers put her in handcuffs and arrested her. Her school books went flying off her lap. “All I remember is that I was not going to walk off the bus voluntarily,” Colvin says. In addition to sharing her story, Ms. Colvin also opened up about why she feels her story didn’t receive more recognition. One of the widely-speculated reasons not mentioned in this article was that she was pregnant at the time. There are many reasons why Claudette Colvin has been pretty much forgotten. She hardly ever told her story when she moved to New York City. In her new community, hardly anyone was talking about integration; instead, most people were talking about black enterprises, black power and Malcolm X. When asked why she is little known and why everyone thinks only of Rosa Parks, Colvin says the NAACP and all the other black organizations felt Parks would be a good icon because “she was an adult. They didn’t think teenagers would be reliable.” She also says Parks had the right hair and the right look. “Her skin texture was the kind that people associate with the middle class,” says Colvin. “She fit that profile.” Were you in the know about this little known black history fact ? This is so tragic. Boy Dies After Mother Accidentally Serves Him Methadone This could have been prevented had she been more careful. According to Salt Lake Tribune: Tooele police have arrested a woman on suspicion of homicide after she allegedly — but inadvertently — served her 2-year-old son an overdose of methadone. The 32-year-old woman called 911 Friday evening when the family discovered that the boy was not breathing. Emergency responders tried to save the boy, but he died at the home near 400 Oak St., said Tooele Police Capt. Paul Wimmer. A few hours later, the boy’s 8-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister turned up at the emergency room having also ingested methadone, police say. Both survived. The 8-year-old told his aunt, and the 5-year-old told a detective, that their mother fixed a pink drink for the 2-year-old, according to a probable cause statement. He did not like the drink so the mother had the 5-year-old taste it; she said it was gross, the statement adds. The mother then had the 8-year-old taste it, and he said it tasted like medicine, according to the statement. Investigators suspect the drink was the mother’s colored, liquid methadone that was kept in a Gatorade bottle, Wimmer said. “We think she may have inadvertently served it,” Wimmer said. The mother told investigators that, after the taste tests, she said she realized that she had poured the Methadone and not Gatorade into the cup, according to the probable cause statement. The mother said she tried to get the 2-year-old to throw up, then went to bed and took a nap with him, the statement adds. “When asked, she said she didn’t call [emergency responders] or Poison Control because she was scared,” according to the statement. The mother was booked into the Tooele County jail, without bail, on suspicion of homicide, two counts of child abuse and endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult, according to jail documents. According to Page Six reports : There was a male fur fiesta as Sean “Diddy” Combs and his entourage of Rick Ross and a “newly rekindled Ashanti and Nelly” showed up at WIP in SoHo on Sunday to catch DJ Whoo Kid’s set. Spies said they were living large in giant furs, just like Joe Namath. “Diddy and Rick needed extra room at the table for their furs,” said a source. “Ashanti and Nelly cuddled up next to them and complained Diddy and Rick’s furs took up their seats at every club all weekend.” Ashanti and Nelly broke up last year, and despite her saying they’d never reconcile, they looked “happy to be back together,” a source added. On Saturday, Ross performed at LES hot spot Finale for a crowd including Marc Anthony and Marlon Wayans. Surprise, surprise… We have a couple of ideas about why they may be working it out.
