The news of the accident just broke today, as cast and crew members tweeted their support. Piper Kerman, whose memoir the Netflix series is based on, encouraged fans to donate to Hurst’s medical bills: Cast members Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Brooks also retweeted the sad news. The YouCaring.com page, started by Hurst’s family, reveals scant details about the accident. It took place just before Christmas and doctors put her in a coma as they performed multiple surgeries. Hurst has woken up, but is still in the ICU at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Hospital. Hurst’s Miss Claudette quickly became a standout character as Piper’s (Taylor Schilling) strict, no-nonsense roommate. She became memorable for her icy staredowns and scary demeanor. But flashback scenes revealed her vulnerable side. She had come to the United States as slave labor and operated a similar cleaning business as an adult. She ended up killing a client when he beat one of her girls. And her hopes for early parole and renewed romance with an old friend were dashed in a heartbreaking episode. Word has come out that Curtis Lepore was arrested in October on charges that he raped Jessi Smiles, a woman he met via the video service Vine. Curtis Lepore and Jessi Smiles Vine Video Lepore was released on $100,000 bail at the time and appeared in court yesterday to answer the charge. According to TMZ insiders, Jessi and Curtis – whose relationship was a big deal in the Vine world and who met in person last summer after getting to know each other online – were in Los Angels last August when something went wrong and they split up. But Jessi then got a concussion a short while later and Curtis offered to help her recover. The victim alleges that Jessi fell asleep in Curtis’ presence and that’s when the sexual assault took place. “Be careful of who you trust. Always be cautious for your safety. Be strong and don’t let your guard down…” Jessi Tweeted the day after the reported rape. For the first time since being arrested for drug possession this week, Lil Za has spoken out and addressed the controversy. The rapper was taken into custody on Tuesday after police raided Justin Bieber’s house , searching for evidence that the singer egged his neighbor’s residence a few days prior. Lil Za: Arrested for Drugs! It was initially believed that cops found cocaine belonging to Za inside the house, but reports now indicate it was likely a form of Ecstasy. “Honestly , the media is making me someone I’m not . But only those in my shoes can relate. … These ppl get paid to make you look bad.” Lil Za wrote on Twitter today. “Some stuff I’ve done has been wrong yes. but look at the position I’m in and the color of my skin. Cocaine? Really?” Referring to himself in the third person (always a smart move when seeking sympathy), Lil Za added: “All this time I was home in tx nobody gave a fuck about what Za is doing ..soon as he gets to La he’s all over the news.” We’re not entirely sure what that means… but it’s true. You get all over the news when your drugs are found inside the house one the country’s most popular young singer. Of course, some believe the white powder is actually the property of Bieber himself. Drake Bell took to Twitter today and, calling Justin a “little sh-it,” told him to man up and admit he’s paying Za to take the fall.
