The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans and cast members are mourning the loss of James Avery, the actor who played Uncle Phil on the beloved sitcom. James Avery died Tuesday night from complications following open-heart surgery, which he underwent in November, at a hospital in Glendale, Calif. James Avery – Uncle Phil Hug on The Fresh Prince Avery has hundreds of credits to his name, including Fletch, Rambo, Dallas, Night Court, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , and more recently, Grey’s Anatomy . Of course, he will be best remembered as Will Smith’s uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air for six seasons and 148 episodes in the 1990s. His co-stars took to social media to express their sadness. Alfonso Ribeiro, Avery’s son on show, wrote: “I’m deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.” Tatyana Ali, who played the late actor’s daughter, added: “James was my teacher my protector & the most magnificent actor. We’re feeling his loss very deeply. He’ll always be apart of me #JamesAvery.” James Avery on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Daphne Reid, who played his on-screen wife Vivian, told BBC Radio 5 live: “He was such a good friend of mine… larger than life. An avid reader, avid questioner, avid thinker.” “He was just a brilliant man.” Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, wrote a message on Facebook Wednesday sending her condolences to the Avery family, writing: “Happy New Year everyone! I was hoping to start the new year differently but we have lost yet another friend.” “James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince has passed.” “Our condolences to aunt Florence (his mother), Miss Barbara (his wife) and all those who loved him. Looks like Britney Spears definitely wears the pants in her relationship with David Lucado. She made that abundantly clear during her Las Vegas show. The singer dragged her boyfriend on stage at Planet Hollywood, forced him down on hands and knees and strapped him into a harness and dog collar. She then paraded him around on a leash like an animal. He seemed to dig the idea of being degraded by the pop princess at least, and likely isn’t alone: Britney Spears, David Lucado on Stage Part of Spears’ Las Vegas “Piece of Me” show involves the star plucking an audience member out to join her on-stage for this raunchy routine. On New Year’s Eve, David Lucado was that lucky man. It could be worse, we suppose, than being Britney’s bitch … bitch. And if nothing else, it’s a distraction from some of the criticism Spears’ show has faced. While the choreography, music and set design have packed the house, rumors of Britney Spears lip syncing and even faking her abs have made headlines. There was also that wardrobe malfunction (below). Her latest album, Britney Jean , was met with a lukewarm reception from critics and music-buyers alike, and is by far her weakest-selling effort to date. Girl can still crack a whip though. Right, David? Guess all that stuff about her feeling like an old woman when it comes to sex is all relative. NASA officials say that the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger accident “should never be trivialized” and that Beyonce’s new song “XO” does exactly that. The star’s track features an audio sample recorded just after the historic and tragic event, and the space agency isn’t pleased , according to a statement. A statement from Lauren B. Worley, NASA’s press secretary, reads: Beyonce Slammed For Challenger Audio Sample “The Challenger accident is an important part of our history; a tragic reminder that space exploration is risky and should never be trivialized.” “NASA works every day to honor the legacy of our fallen astronauts as we carry out our mission to reach for new heights and explore the universe.” She has been criticized by the deceased’s families and fans for the sample, which includes the words “major malfunction” as an allusion to a failed relationship. Beyonce responded to the Challenger controversy this week. The star said “heart goes out to families of those lost in the Challenger disaster” and that she had the “sincerest intention” to help those who lost loved ones. Scott Eastwood covers Town & Country magazine’s annual Top 50 Bachelors issue, and we don’t anticipate a lot of complaints regarding that selection. The 27-year-old up-and-coming actor and son of Clint Eastwood became a sensation when he modeled for the magazine’s October 2013 edition. Almost overnight, the younger Eastwood went from a relative unknown to being rumored for the role of Christian Grey (he would’ve been good). What does he think about all that buzz? “I heard some things. But, to be honest, I was in London filming a movie [the World War II drama Fury ] and didn’t pay much attention,” he insists, noting: “These things come and go anyway.” Scott Eastwood is just as humble when it comes to his foray into film, adding, “I love acting, but I’m not a thespian. I want to be a man’s man, not a glitzy pop star.” Not that he can’t appreciate what pop stars do for a living. “I love Katy Perry and Rihanna,” he admits, revealing that he sings along with their music … and let’s be honest, who doesn’t do that in the car? The Solana Beach, Calif., bar owner, whose mother is Jacelyn Reeves, also shares some lessons his parents instilled in him during his childhood: “My father taught me not to overthink things, that nothing will ever be perfect, so just keep moving and do your best. My mom taught me to be honest.” “Just to be selfless, and touch people in a positive way.” So what kind of woman is Scott, who is single, interested in? “The kind who’s not afraid to be alone, who leaves her phone at home,” he tells Town & Country . So give him a call, ladies … just not too aggressively. And he doesn’t seem like the texting or FaceTime type, FYI. Stick to the phone. That’s our advice. Karrueche Tran and Chris Brown have set the selfie bar very high for 2014. It’s going to be hard to top this effort … in terms of public nausea induced. To sum up the image in question, which really speaks for itself: Chris Brown is sticking his tongue out, and Karrueche Tran is sucking on that thing. Magical. Looks like Tran’s big plan to spend New Year’s with Chris in rehab came to fruition, and the couple made the best of his less than ideal surroundings. Give her credit for standing by her man through thick and thin … but come on Karrueche Tran . Just … who sucks on another human’s tongue?! Putting aside the more obvious questions of who takes a photo of this and who shares said photo on the Internet … who does this to someone, period? We suppose the most positive spin we can put on the gnarliest selfie of 2014 so far (and very possibly for the whole year) is that Chris seems happy. If he becomes the kind of dude who posts disgusting PDA pics with his girlfriend online instead of raging against girls and guys alike? A net positive. Happy New year!

It has been a long time since I’ve done a post on Torrie Wilson . I guess being Alex Rodriguez’s beard is a full time job and it doesn’t allow her to get out of the house much. Well, luckily for us she hit the beach showing off her super fit body. Unfortunately, she’s not wearing a bikini, but those abs are pretty damn impressive. I just hope she’s not on the same “performance enhancing diet” that most baseball players seem to be on.
