TwitterFiles: Fantasia Says The Fawk The Haters And Defends Her Section-8 Mermaid Dress And Performance On American Idol

Fanny, please have a couple of seats Fantasia returned to her “American Idol” roots Wednesday night, showing up on the music competition reality show to perform a duet with contestant Joshua Ledet . While her appearance on the show was a welcomed surprise, it was Fantasia’s outfit choices for the evening that shocked viewers. The 27-year-old North Carolina native graced the red carpet in a purple sequined gown, which didn’t flatter her figure. While the dress did hug her curves, it looked to be too big around her neckline and shoulders, looking like a broke down Mermaid. Later on in the show, when Fantasia teamed up with Ledet to sing a cover of Elton John’s “Take Me to the Pilot,” she did a complete wardrobe change. The Back to Me creator tossed evening wear aside to don a glittering red-and-black catsuit with high slits riding up her thighs. As a result, her tattooed skin was on display for all to see. And nobody was trying to see all of that! Well, apparently Fantasia found time between fawking married men, hollering like a dead goat on stage and swinging her Beauty Supply Remy around to address the haters via Twitter: We didn’t even know Fanny knew how to tweet much less spell. Were you feeling her She by Sheree fashions for less on American Idol? Twitter

George Zimmerman Pleads Not Guilty, Waives Right to Speedy Trial

George Zimmerman pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin and waived his right to a speedy trial on Tuesday. Arguing to a Florida court that he needs more time to prepare for trial, his move means it could be October at the earliest before it gets underway. Zimmerman’s intentions were outlined in two brief documents that his attorney, Mark O’Mara, filed Tuesday in Seminole County, Fla., circuit court. The actions did not come as a surprise to legal experts, who said such moves are common even in less-complex and lower-profile felony cases. Florida law requires suspects charged with a felony be brought to trial within 175 days of their arrest, unless those defendants ask that the right be waived. Zimmerman was released from jail after posting $150,000 bond last month. The 28-year-old turned himself in to authorities on April 11, charged with the murder of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager on February 26. Martin was walking in Zimmerman’s neighborhood in Sanford, Fla., and for reasons only he truly knows, considered him to be suspicious. Law enforcement officials’ initial reluctance to arrest Zimmerman sparked a national outcry, with many observers suspecting that Zimmerman was given a break because of his race, and the race of the young man he fatally shot. The case has also shined a light on mainstream media bias, highlighted by NBC’s editing of the 911 call from the night of the fatal altercation. He admits he shot Martin, 17, but claims he did so in self-defense. He pleaded not guilty in court documents, making his appearance unnecessary at a Tuesday arraignment hearing. At his first pre-trial hearing following his arrest, he surprised many by apologizing to Martin’s family .

Rihanna Pulls Plug on Interview After Reporter Asks Personal Questions

The lesson we’ve learned in the last few weeks is that one shouldn’t even attempt to ask Rihanna a question about her personal life if one wishes the interview to continue. Just ask Australian Sunrise reporter Natalie Barr. “How frustrating is it when you’re linked to another Hollywood star, even if you’ve barely met them?” Barr asked her, referring to Ashton Kutcher . To which the 24-year-old Battleship star abruptly said: “Very frustrating. Almost as frustrating as being asked about it. I mean, what’s the point?” The interview ended immediately afterward. Watch: Rihanna Sunrise Interview With Natalie Barr We sense a pattern here. Last month, she ripped into a reporter for a ballsy, even more out-of-nowhere question regarding herself and Kutcher. “Wow, how disappointing was that question,” she said, before admitting she is single, pointedly, and asking the press to move on. Immediately. Rihanna also snapped at a reporter at a Battleship junket this week when asked what struggles she and Brooklyn Decker have faced in real life. “Girl, you said the key word: personal. Next!” Rihanna quipped. Rihanna’s personal life has been all over the tabloids in recent months, due in part to her musical collaboration with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown . She says she doesn’t care what people think, but obviously, these questions hit a nerve. Should reporters leave her be? Or should she lighten up?

Ashley Judd Defends Appearance, Rails Against Society’s "Hatred of Women"

Combating critics of her appearance once again, Ashley Judd went off on the sexualization, objectification and hatred of women she perceives in society. Stories about Judd’s puffy face , caused by the medication she had been taking for a sinus infection, gave way to plastic surgery rumors in recent weeks. Rumors that did not sit well with the Missing star, who is assailing critics left and right over this “sad commentary” on our obsession with appearance. “I think it’s hatred of women that invites the criticism,” the actress told NBC. Ashley Judd Interview “I think it’s the objectification of girls and this hypersexualization of our society. It doesn’t have anything to do with me, really, and how I look.” Judd says the reaction to her appearance was as swift as it was negative. “There was no presumption of goodwill,” she says, and that’s what pushed her over the edge. “The conversation went straight to, ‘Oh my gosh.'” Particularly galling, besides the “nasty, vitriolic and gloating tone,” she added, was the speculation that the 43-year-old had plastic surgery. “I started to catch the double bind where, you know, my face looks puffy, ‘She’s had work done,’ you know?” Judd says, noting the irony. “Then, look at the same image in a different interpretation by a separate set of people is, ‘Oh, come on, she doesn’t even have any wrinkles at all, she’s clearly had work.'” “So, I look bad, I’ve had work. I look too good, I’ve had work.” Judd said she decided to address this incident “because the conversation was pointedly nasty, gendered, and misogynistic and embodies what all girls and women in modern culture, to a greater or lesser degree, endure every day.” This happens “in ways both outrageous and subtle,” she says. Do you agree?

Keith Olbermann to David Letterman: I Screwed Up Big Time!

In his first interview since being fired by Current TV , Keith Olbermann told David Letterman on The Late Show Tuesday that “I screwed up really big.” Explaining his ouster using a drawn-out metaphor, he said, “It’s my fault it didn’t succeed in the sense that I didn’t think the whole thing through.” “I didn’t say, ‘you know, if you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in. Just walking around with a $10 million chandelier isn’t going to do anybody a lot of good, and it’s not going to do any good to the chandelier.'” Keith Olbermann on The Late Show With David Letterman “And it turned out we didn’t have a lot to put the house on to put the chandelier in, or a building permit, and I should have known that. And it is my fault at heart.” “Now, I’ve been in situations in my lifetime where the second I agreed to something, I got that sinking feeling in my stomach and I’ve said to myself on those occasions, ‘Holy goodness, I’ve just made a huge mistake.’” “So … you’re the chandelier?” Letterman asked, genuinely wondering. We assume that’s what he meant. Olbermann, who was fired by MSNBC before signing on with Current about a year ago, went on to explain: “In that situation, what you’re thinking is, ‘Oh, Lord, this is probably going to hit the water at some point,’ but what do you do? You have – you could bail out and say I’m getting out of this immediately,’ and trust me, I was thinking about that as early as like last July.” “We’d been on the air about 10 days and they fired the guy who knew what he was doing who I worked for and I went, ‘Uh-oh.’” “But I went home and just sort of had a conversation with myself and said, ‘Look, these – the two important groups that are more important than what I do about myself – the audience who, you know, went to struggle to find where the network was and join me, and, most importantly, the staff.’” “And I had 25 people who, most of them came with me from other jobs, one guy was with me four different places, and they put their careers at risk for me, and I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to them let alone thank them.” “I’m, you know, I’m so proud of them because the show editorially was never better, but I let them down because the thing didn’t continue.”

Ryan Seacrest to Cover the Summer Olympics on NBC

Will Ryan Seacrest be taking over for Matt Lauer on The Today Show ? The American Idol host addressed that rumor this morning… to Matt Lauer on The Today Show . After joking about taking both Lauer’s job and that of weatherman Al Roker, Seacrest revealed that, yes, he has signed a new deal with NBC Universal. But Lauer can rest easy. “The plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have a role at the E! network,” Ryan said. “The first assignment will be to join the prime time team for the Olympics on NBC.” From there, who knows. But one thing is certain: this appearance by Seacrest will garner far less criticism for The Today Show than yesterday’s ratings stunt of having Sarah Palin co-host .

‘Hunger Games’: Why The Box-Office Odds Are In Its Favor

Riding high off its $150 million debut, experts predict that ‘Hunger Games’ isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. By Fallon Prinzivalli Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate MTV News reported earlier this week that “The Hunger Games” opening-weekend sales surprised box-office experts , and we can see why. They originally projected a $70 million debut for the dystopian film. What actually happened was a $150 million weekend that propelled the film to the third-highest opening weekend ever. That sparks the question: How will the movie fare its second weekend? The film’s debut dominated the sales of the one movie everyone was comparing it to: “Twilight.” The vampire franchise’s initial film brought in $69 million its first weekend and quickly declined from there. Will “The Hunger Games” suffer the same fate? Phil Contrino from BoxOffice.com doesn’t think so. ” ‘Hunger Games’ is holding up very well. It’s quite clear by now that it’s not going to suffer from a sharp decline the way that ‘Twilight’ did,” he said. “The reason for that is the fact that adults are into it and they don’t always rush out opening weekend.” BoxOffice.com is predicting $72 million this weekend — $2 million above predictions for its debut. Contrino continued, ” ‘The Hunger Games’ definitely has a shot at hitting $400 million domestically. It’s a great accomplishment for the first film of a franchise to hit that mark.” Gitesh Pandya from Box Office Guru agrees. “Overall, ‘Hunger Games’ looks on track to finish its U.S. run with $350 to $400 million, which would be higher than the first ‘Twilight’ and ‘Harry Potter’ films.” He commented that the movie ended its first full week with about $190 million, which is a new record for a non-sequel. “I expect it to easily hold onto the box-office crown this weekend with sales in the neighborhood of $70 million.” While “Wrath of the Titans” and “Mirror, Mirror” aren’t slated to surpass “Hunger Games” this weekend, Contrino thinks next weekend will be more of a race. “It’ll be interesting to see whether or not ‘Titanic 3D’ or ‘American Reunion’ will take it down. It’s going to be close.” Pandya disagrees, “The April lineup is not too strong, so ‘Hunger Games’ may just remain #1 for three or four weeks total.” The rest of the year, however, gives them some competition. “It may not end the year as 2012’s top-grossing film as both ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘The Avengers’ has the potential to become bigger blockbusters that play to broader audiences.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
