John Tavener Dies; British Composer Was 69

Sir John Tavener, one of the leading British composers of the past 50 years and a man whose music drew deeply on spirituality, has died at the age of 69. He died at his home in Child Okeford, Dorset, UK today, having been in poor health for much of his life, including a major heart attack in 2007. Fellow composer John Rutter told BBC Radio 3 that his colleague was one of a kind. Sir John “was absolutely touched by genius at every point.” “He could bring an audience to a deep silence which is a very rare gift,” Rutter said. “He believed that music was for everybody and was a prayer.” In 1992, The Protecting Veil topped the classical charts for several months and in 1997 his Song For Athene was played at the funeral of Princess Diana. His setting of William Blake’s The Lamb and A New Beginning was chosen to see in a new century at the end of 1999 in the Millennium Dome in London. Sir John Tavener first made his name with the avant-garde oratorio The Whale, which was released by The Beatles on their Apple label in 1968. He went on to become one of the few contemporary composers to find wide acclaim beyond the classical world, a feat becoming ever more rare. For his contributions to the genre, he was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize twice – in 1992 and 1997 – and was formally knighted in 2000.

MPERO 5 Pack of Screen Protectors for Apple iPhone 5 review

I ordered these screen protectors mostly because I didn#39;t want to spend a lot of money on a professional screen protector. I thought that they would appear and feel cheaply made and wouldn#39;t stay on my phone but I was surprised to find out that they worked quite well. They were pretty easy to apply and come with all the necessary tools. I have used 2/5. The first one I put on was oddly cut and was a little awkward on my phone and I had to end up taking it off because it got sticky and I wa

Jaime Pressly Weirdo See Thru of the Day

I prefer Jaime Pressly when she’s PEEING OUTSIDE OF RESTAURANTS Not that I even remember who Jaime Pressly is, but I do know she’s slowly morphing into a dude, despite the cleavage, that face is harder that it used to be and I think I see an Adam’s Apple…I guess it’s from hard living…the kind of hard living that leads you to PEEING OUTSIDE OF RESTAURANTS TO SEE THE REST OF THE PICS CLICK HERE

Fiona Apple Heckled on Stage, Breaks Down in Tears, Calls Rex Reed a C–t

Fiona Apple is always one to keep things interesting. The singer never mails in a live performance, but you also never know just what you’re going to see. Case in point? She impressed Monday night at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A., yet still managed to shock audience members with her outspoken nature. Fiona Apple Heckled Near the end of the show, she ignored a heckler shouting out song requests, acknowledging that we all have things we want to get off our chests at times. She proceeded to explain that years ago, her father, actor Brandon Maggart, got a bad review from film critic Rex Reed, who misspelled Maggart’s name. That was only the start of it. Apparently he also “f–ked with people and how they looked.” She continued, “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.” “Daddy, this is for you. Rex Reed: you’re a c–t.” Well, there you have that, ladies and gentlemen. Apple is famous for her erratic performances. Just last week, in Portland, Ore., a fan shouted, “Fiona! Get healthy! We want to see you in 10 years!” She reportedly screamed at the fan and “sobbed” through her next song. Apple also walked off stage at a Louis Vuitton event in August, yelling “predictable fashion!” In 2012, Fiona Apple was arrested in Texas for marijuana possession, which she then discussed on stage in one of the weirdest rants of all time. She’s a character!

iPhone 5S: Release Date, New Colors, "Touch ID" Fingerprint Sensor Unveiled!

As expected, Apple introduced the new iPhone 5S at a media event Tuesday. Also as anticipated, the iPhone 5S will be the same size and design and the current iPhone 5, however it will feature improved specifications and features. Perhaps most notably, it be available in colors: silver, gold, and space Gray. Another significant new feature is a “Touch ID” fingerprint sensor built into the home button that’s capable of scanning sub-epidermal skin layers. Seriously. It’s got fingerprint ID technology on a hand-held device, NCIS style. Touch ID can be used to unlock an iPhone and authorize iTunes purchases. Built into the home button, Touch ID uses a laser cut crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image of your fingerprint . With its analysis, it will be able to provide accurate readings at any angle. The Touch ID sensor recognizes the touch of a finger so the sensor is only activated when actually needed by the iPhone user, preserving battery life. All information is encrypted and stored in the Secure Enclave inside the A7 chip on the iPhone 5s; it’s never on Apple servers or backed up to iCloud. The improvements don’t stop there. Internally, the iPhone 5S will feature a 64-bit A7 processor that will reportedly be up to twice as fast at CPU tasks. The rear camera in the iPhone 5s has a new 5-element lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a sensor that is 15 percent larger than the current iPhone 5. Other new camera features include Burst Mode, capable of capturing 10 photos per second, and Slo-Mo 720p video capture at 120 frames per second. The iPhone 5s will cost $199, $299, and $399 for 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models respectively with a 2-year contract; $649/$749/$849 with no contract. It will available in stores in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the UK starting in just 10 days: Friday, September 20.

Diddy Mocks Kendrick Lamar, "King of New York" Claim on Instagram

It’s ON now. Diddy just put Kendrick Lamar on BLAST on Instagram, taking issue with a claim he makes on Big Sean’s “Control” where he calls himself the new King of New York. Diddy disagrees. In hilarious, meme-tastic form: Kendrick Lamar’s verse of the Big Sean track – in which he SHREDS Lindsay Lohan, Drake, and everyone else – has been the talk of the web for the last 24 hours. Diddy wasn’t name-checked or threatened with murder (he’s one of the few) on “Control,” but he took issue with Lamar’s lyrics about reigning over NYC. That’s Diddy’s role, b!tch. We’ll leave the argument over who the real ruler of the Big Apple rap game is up to you, THGers … but we have to give Diddy props for his retaliatory style. Jay-Z had no comment, but based on the photo above, his pal’s pretty much implying there’s no daylight between their respective positions on Lamar.
