MTV News follows the Wanted to ‘Today’ appearance in the lead-up to their ‘MTV First’ and ‘Chasing the Sun’ video premiere. And that means we are kicking off our full day of Big Apple festivities with the five guys as they celebrate the release of their debut U.S. EP , as well as the premiere of their new video for “Chasing the Sun.” The guys have allowed an MTV News crew to tag along with them for exclusive access into their lives as they continue to win the hearts of girls across America. In the lead-up to their day with MTV News, the guys had this message for their fans, “Please stay tuned to MTV all day today where we will be teasing you with the premiere of our new video, ‘Chasing the Sun,’ which will premiere live on MTV. And we’ll be answering your questions during MTV First at 7:53 p.m. on MTV. Do you feel teased?” First up, the guys will head to “Today” to chat up Matt Lauer and the crew about the release, which includes several new tracks such as “Chasing,” as well as their hit, “Glad You Came.” We were on hand with the fellas as they made their way to the famed morning news chat show, knocking yet another notch off their list of milestones and accomplishments. From there, the five Brits will go all across Manhattan for various media appearances to help spread the gospel of the Wanted. With the day just starting, anything is possible, so stay tuned for all the inside scoop of what the guys are up to in-between and during their media blitz. MTV News will let you in on what it’s like to be a fly on the wall. Once the guys are finished with all of those appearances, they will sit down with Sway Calloway for “MTV First: The Wanted,” airing tonight (April 24) at 7:53 p.m. ET on MTV, during which they will premiere the “Chasing” video. Immediately following the MTV premiere, the fivesome will stay on for an additional 30-minute live Q&A session with Sway on MTV.com. Fans can get in on the action by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or @MTVNews on Twitter, using the hashtags #MTVFirst or #AskTheWanted. The guys are also one of the 32 hopefuls in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands , which pits some of the greatest groups of all time against one another, until fans vote their favorite group to #1. The battle rages on at BBB.MTV.com , with the first round ending Thursday. Fans can weigh in on the matches on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB. The winner of Battle of the Boy Bands will be announced Monday, May 7, live on “AMTV” on MTV. Voting in round one of MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands is now open and runs until noon ET on Thursday, April 26. When Animals Attack: 2-Year-Old Killed By “Gentle” Lab Retriever That Ripped His Legs Off While His Dad Slept In The Next Room

We’d expect this kind of behavior from a pitbull, but Lucky the Lab, really? 2-Year-Old Killed By Dog While Dad Slept In Next Room A supposedly “gentle” pooch named Lucky is suspected of killing a 2-month-old baby and tearing the child’s body apart in South Carolina. Aiden McGrew, who was born on Valentine’s Day and was the youngest of three children, was found dead in his family’s mobile home Friday in Ridgeville by his mother, according to The Post and Courier newspaper. The baby was in a swing when Lucky, a golden retriever-Labrador mix, bit the child several times and tore off his legs, authorities said. The child’s father, Quintin, was in the home at the time, police said. He was in another room asleep with the family’s 3-year-old and their other dog. The baby was discovered when his mother, Chantel, came home after taking their seven-year-old to a doctor’s appointment, The Post and Courier reported. “This… is about as bad as it can get for us as police officers,” Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said at a press conference Friday. “I’ve been doing this a lot of years and haven’t seen one like this.” It is unclear why the father did not wake up when the baby was attacked, police said. The mother told 911 at the time that her husband was still asleep when she got home. Shirley Pargiello, 70, a next-door neighbor to the McGrew family, told The Post and Courier that Lucky was “a very gentle dog.” “It’s a beautiful dog,” she said. “I went over to say hi one day, and he came right up to me and stopped. I rubbed his head, then he left.” No charges have been filed in the case, which police said was still “under investigation.” That poor baby. This is just horrible. We can’t imagine what came over that animal, but we always say don’t leave your kids unattended with pets. You never know when they might feel that call of the wild. R.I.P. Se fueron y no regresar… Cuban Actors From “Una Noche” Disappear Prior To Tribeca Film Festival In a case of life imitating art, a pair of young Cuban actors who were expected at the New York premiere of their film about defecting to the U.S. have disappeared after landing in Miami. The film “Una Noche” is about three young Cubans who decide to flee the country on a raft after one of them is accused of assault. The film follows the day they attempt to make it 90 miles across the ocean to Florida. All three of the film’s stars — Anailin de la Rua de la Torre, Javier Nunez Florian and Dariel Arrechaga — were expected to appear at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere. But Torre and Florian, both 19, were nowhere to be found the night of the event. “Only Dariel Arrechada attended the Tribeca Film Festival premiere screening of ‘Una Noche’ on Thursday, April 19,” a spokeswoman for the Tribeca Film Festival said in a statement. “We have not had any contact with Anailin de la Rua de la Torre or with Javier Nunez Florian.” Tammie Rosen, spokeswoman for the festival, confirmed to ABCNews.com that all of the actors were invited to the festival. “We can’t say for sure what the status of these guys are,” Katie Tichacek Kaplan, spokeswoman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), told ABCNews.com. “There are a number of things they could be thinking. I know at least part of the feeling : “The Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Una Noche , a film about three Cuban teens trying to escape the Communist island nation for a better life in the U.S., was marred by the disappearance of two of the film’s lead stars — who went missing as soon as their plane from Cuba touched down in Miami. Anailin de la Rua de la Torre and Javier Nunez Florian, the 20-year-old Cuban-born actors, were flown from Cuba to the United States on Wednesday and were supposed to make their way to New York on Friday in order to promote the film. But instead, the pair stayed in Miami, according to 20-year-old Dariel Arrechada, the third star of the film who traveled with them.” [ Huffington Post ]

On the Heels of Veep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus Catches the Indie Bug with Paris

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus debuted her new HBO series Veep over the weekend, and she — along with husband/director Brad Hall — appears eager to add independent filmmaking to her repertoire. The pair hit the Tribeca Film Festival with their new short Picture Paris , teasing the project at an Apple Store event and hinting that this will not be their last foray into the indie space. Starring Dreyfus, the film follows a woman with an extraordinary obsession with Paris and a surprising past. “It was a way to dip our toes into the independent film world,” Dreyfus said at the event co-hosted by Indiewire. “It was like being in our old theater days, so we called in favors from friends and it was a great experience.” “The short is based on true life,” Hall added. “We had a kid heading off to college and it’s a major life-changing event. So I wrote a script by chance and I showed it to Julia. It has a good amount of twists and turns, and Julia said, ‘maybe we should just make it.'” Hall and Dreyfus are used to working together, but noted that this project allowed them to call the shots, which they are hoping to replicate on a future feature. “I’ve written other shorts about Paris,” Hall said, “but then we realized that we can’t really recoup our money making shorts, so we are going to do an independent feature, but keep the same group together.” Hall also contributed a complimentary gush about the French capital where they shot their short over six days, calling it “the Buenos Aires of Europe.” As for Veep , Dreyfus apologized for the onslaught of posters around New York City at the moment promoting the new HBO comedy in which she plays a fictional vice president of the United States. She said the show’s tagline is that the “buck stops somewhere near here,” but noted also that it is decidedly non-partisan. “This is a show about political behavior,” she said. “You’ll never see the actual president, and you’ll never know which party I belong to.” Read all of Movieline’s Tribeca 2012 coverage here .

Fiona Apple Announces North American Tour Dates

Apple returns to the road on June 19 in support of The Idler Wheel …, her first album in nearly seven years. By James Montgomery Fiona Apple Photo: WireImage Last week, Fiona Apple officially started the comeback clock when she revealed a spate of information about her first album in nearly seven years , The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do (phew), including the release date, full track list and cover art … which was drawn by Apple herself. The news came after she had just wrapped a run of small club shows , and had her long-waiting fans hoping that soon there’d be a full-blown tour in support of the disc. Well, one week later, we’ve got the dates. Beginning on June 19 — the same date The Idler Wheel … hits stores — Apple will hit the road for a run of shows that will take her across North America. The tour kicks off in Ithaca, New York, and wraps on July 29 at the Hollywood Palladium, and will make stops at iconic venues like Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, historic opera houses, fests like New York’s Governors Ball on Randall’s Island, and refreshingly few venues named after cell phone brands. Tickets for some dates go on sale as early as Friday, April 13. For more information, check out Apple’s official site . Also on Monday (April 9), Apple revealed that the first single off The Idler Wheel … would be “Every Single Night,” one of a handful of new tracks she performed on her recently wrapped mini-tour.
