Lady Gaga Poses As Lady Liberty On Magazine Cover

Pop star poses alongside Marc Jacobs for the New York issue of V Magazine. By James Dinh Lady Gaga on the cover of V Magazine Photo: V Magazine, LLC As evidenced by her recent well-publicized attendance at a Mets game and her glorious Madison Square Garden show, Lady Gaga has always repped for her hometown of New York City. So it’s no surprise that Gaga is paying tribute to the Big Apple by posing as the Statue of Liberty alongside fashion guru Marc Jacobs on the fall cover of V Magazine . Posing with Jacobs, a shopping cart and an old TV set, Gaga stands with her mouth slightly open in a black lace bra and panties with a gray dress sliding off her body. With her toned abs and her hair shaped into a crown, the pop star is holding a burning torch, mimicking the New York landmark. And while Gaga does her best impression of the neoclassical sculpture, Jacobs remains serious and firm, sitting on top of the television in a traditional black-and-white suit. In another photo, the singer is seen crouched in the carriage as she’s pushed around by the fashion designer with her torch held high. Just last year, the singer appeared on the fall issue of the magazine donning Jacobs-designed pieces. In the issue, which is on sale now, V Magazine highlights some of New York’s most profound figures, people they say “are making the city their own way.” Editor Stephen Gan revealed that he chose the pop star because her representative values parallel those of the magazine. “Just as the Statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York’s greatest gift to pop culture and fashion,” he said in a statement. “She embodies everything V is about, and is also a beacon of the city’s creativity and hope. Exactly one year after her first V cover (the first fashion magazine cover she was on), we decided to do the NEW YORK issue, and she was the first person who came to mind to represent our great city.” Gan declared Gaga “a bonafide genius” and credited her as V Magazine ‘s “muse” of inspiration. “Above all, a New York issue should celebrate people who’ve done great things. We at V are grateful Gaga came along to put the New back in New York!” he concluded. But the singer doesn’t always leave fashion editors with the best impression. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour spoke about the pop star during her stop at “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday. “We had Lady Gaga this year,” she said of the singer’s performance at this year’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala. “She was communing with God and she was praying in the back, waiting for God to tell her it was all right to actually go onstage.” Wintour chuckled before revealing that Gaga left the audience waiting for more than 40 minutes. Lady Gaga, Chris Martin Help Apple Announce New Products

Coldplay frontman played unreleased song, ‘Wedding Bells,’ while Gaga, via video, introduced Ping social network site. By Gil Kaufman Coldplay’s Chris Martin Photo: Justin Sullivan/ Getty Images For Apple geeks, the sight of company CEO Steve Jobs is akin to a rock star encounter, because they know that whenever he takes the stage in his signature black turtleneck for the company’s annual new-product-announcement event, they’re going to be blown away. But on Wednesday in San Francisco, Jobs brought along some actual star firepower in the form of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Lady Gaga to announce the new line of iPods and a musical social networking site called Ping. Jobs rolled out the iPods first, showing off the revamped iPod Shuffle, which brings back finger controls, and the tiny Nano, which ditches buttons for a touch screen. Then, according to reports, Martin came out and played the new tune “Wedding Bells,” which he said might never come out. “This is the beginning of a story kind of thing that starts sadly,” he explained, telling the audience it might be the only time they ever hear the composition. “Those wedding bells ringing up upon that hill/ And I don’t want to swallow such a bitter pill/ You keep on movin’, while I stay still/ But I always loved you and I always will,” Martin sang intensely while gently playing piano. Martin also played such well known Coldplay hits as “Viva La Vida” and “Yellow” before Jobs brought out another big gun, Lady Gaga, to introduce Apple’s latest innovation. With 160 million potential users from day one, the company’s music-focused social network, Ping, will be included in the upcoming iTunes 10 update. Jobs brought up a Lady Gaga page to demonstrate the service, described as “Facebook and Twitter meets iTunes.” Users can follow their favorite artists and friends, see what they’re listening to and downloading, post opinions and thoughts on music and browse concert listings on the new service. Gaga appeared via pre-taped video from the studio to hype the new product. But the biggest buzz about her drop-in after the event centered on reports that Apple had allegedly scrubbed some of her tweets celebrating the recent overturning of anti gay-marriage legislation Proposition 8 in California in a promo screenshot of a Gaga Ping page, according to Gawker. Notre Dame Begins Test Run of iPads With a Paperless Course

Photo by Jaymi Heimbuch The University of Notre Dame is taking the use of e-readers in classrooms seriously, embarking on a one year study of how the devices integrate into classrooms. The first course to have students use an iPad instead of any text books is Project Management, a class with 40 students that will not only use the iPad as a book, but will also be encouraged to use it for everything else in daily life and report back their impressions (hmmm, could that possibly have been at Apple’s request?). Apple is making a big push to turn iPads into the next big thin… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Dr. Dre’s ‘Turn Me On’ Leaks To The Web

Pulsating track is the second Dre leak this summer and could be featured on Detox. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage Yet another unfinished track from Dr. Dre has hit the Web. This time, it’s the pulsating “Turn Me On,” a possible number for the producer’s long-delayed Detox album. “Seven stars must be my aura/ I mastered levitation, I stay up in the clouds,” Dre raps on the track, which clocks in at barely two minutes. “Penthouse, hovering a hundred floors up/ I’m on some tantric yoga/ The ladies love the way I shine, I’m like Merlin when I’m erotic/ I make ya squirm no hands on ya body.” “Turn Me On” follows the West Coast producer’s Jay-Z collaboration, “Under Pressure,” which leaked online to mixed reactions earlier this summer. In June, just weeks after the Jay-Z single leaked, Dre spoke about the track on the red carpet of the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards. The doctor, who has a reputation for being a perfectionist, wasn’t satisfied by any means. “The vocals are real rough, it’s not blended right … a hook is not even on the song,” he said, explaining that didn’t get a chance to finish the number before listeners got a sample. The song still needed a chorus and had to be mixed and mastered properly, he said. “It’s not done. The music isn’t done.” In the current issue of Vibe magazine, Dre opened up for the first time about Detox ‘s delays. He said the work time on the project hasn’t varied from his past efforts. It was his work signing and producing new talent, like 50 Cent, that has set his own project back. “Absolutely not,” Dre told the magazine when asked if he expected the album to take so long. “I thought it would take, at worst case, a couple of years. For example, actual work time on The Chronic was nine months, and actual work time on my last album, 2001, was about 10 months. The actual work time on this album is about half of that, where I’m seriously focusing on it. There is always something coming up.” What do you think about Dr. Dre’s “Turn Me On”?
