Hewlett-Packard Bought Palm For $1bn In Cash

The computer giant company Hewlett-Packard (HP) has bought Palm, which is a pioneer in the smartphone business, for $1bn (£657m) cash. According to HP, Palm’s webOS operating system would help it expand more aggressively in the fast-growing market for smart phones and connected mobile devices. The deal values the company at $1.2bn if Palm’s debt is included. HP is paying $5.70 for each Palm share and the company hopes to complete the deal at the end of July. Last year Palm has unveiled and released a well-reviewed touch-screen phone which is called the Pre, but unfortunately, it did not hit its target sales. Palm has been struggling in recent years to compete in a market which is dominated by two large companies, the Apple and Blackberry. Apple: Will Host A Conference In June And A new iPhone Is Expected

An annual developers’ conference hosted by Apple will start in June 7. During this conference, the company is expected to unveil the latest version of the iPhone. The event will run in San Francisco until June 11. The Apple spokeswoman declined to say who would be delivering the keynote this year because of the incident that had happened last year. Apple sold a record of 8.75 million smartphones in its most recent quarter. Many anticipate the fourth-generation iPhone to have a new feature such as a front-facing camera. iPhone’s exclusive carrier in the U.S. is the AT&T, but analysts predict that the company will bring the device to carrier Verizon in the year 2011. Apple’s conference will also includes its first iPad development sessions. Apple released the 9.7-inch touchscreen tablet in the market earlier this month and it sold about 500,000 units in its first week.
