Multitasking Demonstrated at Apple OS 4.0 Sneak Peak Launch

This is finally confirmed. The Apple OS 4.0 will offer multitasking of applications on the Iphone. What’s something to rave about the good news is that the multitasking feature of the Apple OS 4.0 will not affect the speed and battery life of the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch. Double-clicking the home button of the said apple devices will now enable the user to view the running applications. Tapping the applications found after double-clicking the home button will enable them to switch from one running application to another. Engadget however describes the OS 4.0 multitasking feature more of as “not a true” multitasking system. The concept behind the setup for the new operating system is that it will just enable the devices to simply run the services apps need in the background and the applications don’t need to do them individually. How everything was made on the other hand is quite effective but there are still certain caveats on the Apple OS 4.0 for IM maintenance. Users still have to wait until another release that will enable users to mutitask conversations and chats on IM apps like Yahoo! Messenger or Twitter. A big but sad news to Iphone 3G owners and older Iphone models: The Apple OS 4.0 can’t be updated to the devices since their hardware doesn’t support the new OS. Only Iphone 3Gs users and late 2009 Ipod Touch users will be able to appreciate the mutitasking update from the Apple OS 4.0 Multitasking Demonstrated at Apple OS 4.0 Sneak Peak Launch is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

The big news of the week: The iPad! Apple’s tablet was the total rage, with the faithful lining up to buy their own copy, and the rest of the world either feeling left out or snorting derisively (while secretly feeling left out.) OpenFeint Wasn’t Briefed On Apple’s Game Center Reveal, But Expected It

The developers of the many existing social game networks on iPhone and iPod Touch got a surprise during Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0 unveiling yesterday: Apple’s entering their territory. Apple announced Game Center, a cross-platform, cross-game service not unlike Xbox Live and PlayStation Network that incorporates achievements, leaderboards, matchmaking — services that companies like ngmoco with Plus+ and Aurora Feint with OpenFent have been pushing themselves for months. Apple is secretive about its reveals, even to its developers. OpenFeint found out about Apple’s Game Center plans, effectively destroying the usefulness of many like services, with the rest of us. “We were not aware of the [Apple Game Center] announcement but, like many in our space, we’ve been anticipating it for quite some time,” said OpenFeint VP of marketing and developer relations Eros Resmini to me over e-mail yesterday. “We view it as a validation of what we’ve been working so hard to support: a fantastic mobile gaming experience.” Both OpenFeint and ngmoco have announced plans to move from attempting to become the standardized social gaming network across Apple devices to supplying developers with robust tools to better deliver virtual goods and microtransactions in their games, a new field for iPhone games. “Things change quickly in a rapidly moving space like mobile gaming,” said Resmini. “We’re used to it. If you look at the gaming ecosystem as a whole it’s clear that there are multiple ways to participate. Running a social graph tied to a network like OpenFeint is just one of them. Plugging into a social graph like we do with OpenFeint X, our hosted solution for running Facebook style games on mobile devices, is another one.” Despite the change of focus, Resmini isn’t worried about the future of OpenFeint. “We have more ideas than you can imagine,” he promised. Game Center won’t launch until sometime this summer, however, when iPhone OS 4.0 is scheduled for release. It won’t hit iPad until later in the fall for unknown reasons. In the interim, Resmini promised it would continue to work with developers on supporting OpenFeint and transitioning to the future. “We will continue to work with our developers to ensure that OpenFeint plays well with the new Apple ecosystem,” concluded Resmini. “We’ll also continue to focus on our premium services of OpenFeint X and hosted Multiplayer. Much more to come!” Have something to share? Sitting on a news tip? E-mail me . You can also follow me on Twitter . Aurora Feint – IpodTouch – Apple – iPhone – OpenFeint

The Fifth Apple iPod Nano

The iPod Nano MP3 player continues to adopt Apple’s birthright of developing multi-featured colorfully designed and incredibly slick skin that comes with a satisfying price at less than $150 (8GB) and less than $180 (16GB). With its recent branching, Apple is bringing a niche out of its iPod forms by polishing the back of the Nano with a video camera. If you are planning to purchase an iPod Nano, the fifth-generation is surely satisfying and highly recommended. Apple broke away from the traditionally flat, rectangular iPod design and surprised customers with a curved, wing-shaped iPod Nano. If you happened to use the previous iPod Nanos, you will notice that the fifth generation model is nearly identical with its predecessor, with a measure of 3.5 inches tall by 1.6 inches wide by 0.25 thick in the center. A First Look at Crysis 2

Why does my home state of New York always get the shaft? Between giant monsters, super-villains and destructive aliens, you’d think someone would invest in some top-notch defense detail by now! The latest to call NYC its victim: Crysis 2 , and to witness the rubble in all its digital glory, our own Andrew Pfister flew to the Big Apple to get our first look at the game. What did he see? Long gone are the idyllic beaches, rocky outcrops and lush canopy of the jungle that defined both of the company’s biggest games, Far Cry and Crysis . The pitch now is “urban jungle,” with palm trees replaced by traffic lights, beaches swapped for bus stops, and rocky cliffs transformed into skyscraper rubble. Disaster has once more found a home downtown. Oh great! Why couldn’t this happen to Boise?! See what else is in store for Crysis fans in our full Crysis 2 preview , including a first peek at the new trailer entitled, “The Wall.”

Morning Hangover — 3GS Owners, Raise Your Hand

Apple did a great job of guiding iPhone users through all the great updates coming to iPhone OS 4.0 sometime this summer, all the while neglecting to mention the biggest addition — multitasking — won’t be available on iPhone 3G. It also won’t work on the original iPhone, and the first two releases of the iPod Touch. Count me in the camp with a still-kicking iPhone 3G. Am I alone here?
