The two have teased fans for quite some time about getting together and making a track to please both the Katy Cats and the Rihanna Navy. When MTV News sat down with Katy during “MTV First: Katy Perry” — airing Wednesday (March 21) at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a 30-minute chat on MTV.com — the singer opened up about the pressure she feels to make the collaboration happen. “I’ve always wanted to and she’s always wanted to and that’s very genuine,” she explained. “We’re not just shooting the sh–. We’re not, like, just kind of beating around the bush. But really we want to.” Here is the catch. “It’s just that I think it’s gotten to such a head that if we do something that’s not the greatest, it’s going to be so anticlimactic,” she said. “So we’ve already thought about it.” Perry then referred to a certain Beyonc

Katy Perry is so excited about the prospect of a collaboration with BFF Rihanna , she may have put her foot in her mouth discussing the potential project. Perry weighed in on the forthcoming song (which undoubtedly will be a catchy #1 hit with those two working together), with an apparent dig at Beyonce: “We’ve collaborated on things, just not songs yet. It’s one of those things that’s got so much build-up that we have to deliver,” she said on BBC Radio 1. “I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,’ not ‘Beautiful Liar.’ I definitely want to do something iconic.” Beyonce’s 2007 track ” Beautiful Liar ,” featuring Shakira, isn’t her best song, but it did reach No. 1 on the iTunes best-seller list and U.S. Hot Singles Sales. Perry doesn’t have a reputation for starting beef with other celebs, so we’re guessing she did not mean it as an insult … even if it sort of reads that way. Maybe Bey and Katy can collaborate next and bury the hatchet in this non-feud? After rumors surfaced that Aretha Franklin got uninvited to Whitney Houston’s homegoing service because of an interview with the Today show she is ready to set the record straight with a new statement: Extra TV, the New York Post and Newsday (New York) should stop the BS. Cissy Houston and I have been longtime friends for almost 50 years. I have four invitations and parking passes that were sent to me for the funeral. Extra TV, the New York Post and Newsday (New York) are more interested in sensationalism and negative speculations than the truth. People are getting their information from the wrong source. The intelligent and the thoughtful thing to do would be to respect and have some sensitivity to the moment. If you don’t know how, at least try. Cissy does not need ridiculous speculation and neither do I—particularly at this time. Also, with respect to the Today Show, my entire statement was pre-taped. However, the Today Show did not air the part of my statement, which said, “This is no reflection on Cissy or Nippy’s upbringing.” Knowing Cissy as well as I do, I know Whitney left home right and properly. I was generalizing and it was a well intended statement for any young adult coming into the music industry. I was not speaking of anyone specifically. NewJersey.com reports that Whitney Elizabeth Houston has been laid to rest beside her father, John Russell Houston: A gold hearse carrying Whitney Houston’s casket this morning pulled out of Whigham Funeral Home in Newark to head to the star’s burial in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. Just after 11:10 a.m. today, Houston’s hearse followed behind a black Chevy pickup truck with a bed brimming with flowers — light purple roses, pink carnations and white lilies among the arrangement. “We love you, Whitney!” fans called out trotting next to the hearse for about a block as it slowly pulled away. A backseat window displayed a black and white headshot photo of the star. The driver of the hearse appeared to be crying as she played “I will always love you.” Read the full story here. Family, friends and celebrities packed into the Newark church where Whitney Houston grew up and remembered the late singer’s voice, love and — most of all — faith at her homegoing service Saturday. The nearly four-hour service featured performances from Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, the Winans family, Stevie Wonder and others. Many of the performers adapted lyrics in tribute to Houston, including Kim Burrell and Stevie Wonder, who altered his version of one of Houston’s favorite songs, “Ribbon in the Sky.” Houston died a week ago at age 48 in Los Angeles. Many of the speakers spoke about Whitney Houston’s Baptist background and her strong faith in God, including an emotional Tyler Perry, who received a standing ovation. “I am completely thankful to God for all he has done her life,” Perry said. “There is a grace that kept on carrying her. … Whitney Houston loved the Lord.” Actor Kevin Costner also received a standing ovation after he spoke of Houston’s courage when she tried out for a starring role with him in the 1992 movie “The Bodyguard.” Oprah Winfrey, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Spike Lee, Roberta Flack, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and Houston’s former husband, Bobby Brown, were among those in attendance. Brown and his entourage later left the church during the service, but there are conflicting reports as to why he left. Houston’s cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, was in New Jersey helping the family with funeral arrangements. Although the family is not commenting on Houston’s final resting place, her death certificate filed Wednesday in Los Angeles lists it as Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
