SMH Former Boxing Champ Jermain Taylor Charged With Shooting Cousin Via ESPN Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was arrested Tuesday night at his home in Maumelle, Arkansas, a suburb of Little Rock, in connection with the shooting of his cousin, according to police. Taylor was taken into custody, booked into the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility and charged with two felonies — first-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault — Lt. Carl Minden, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, told ESPN.com. The cousin was in serious condition at a hospital after being shot multiple times, Minden said. Taylor appeared via video from the Pulaski County jail for an initial appearance Wednesday. District Judge Wayne Gruber set bail at $25,000 and granted a defense request for Taylor to travel out of state to train and compete in a bout against Sam Soliman in October. Minden said the police responded to a 911 call from Taylor’s wife, Erica, at around 7 p.m. ET. “Mr. Taylor’s cousin and another individual came to his residence, and there was some sort of altercation,” Minden said, adding that the two who showed up at Taylor’s home were unarmed. “At some point, Mr. Taylor retrieved a handgun and fired several rounds. His cousin was struck multiple times. The cousin is alive and in serious condition at an area hospital. He has pretty serious injuries. Via MailOnline : A film and television producer on the way to an Emmy’s pre-party on Friday says he was wrongly held for six hours by officers of the Beverly Hills police force who claimed he ‘fit the description’ of a black bank robber. Harvard graduate Charles Belk, 51, uploaded a photograph to Facebook of himself handcuffed and sitting on a curb with two officers standing over him after he was pulled over as he left a restaurant to top up a parking meter. The award-winning executive says he was swarmed on Wilshire Boulevard by officers and not told why he had been arrested and was denied a phone call before being released just before midnight when police admitted they had made a mistake. A furious Belk was booked on $100,000 bail and says he was treated with contempt by the arresting officers who only let him go when they reviewed the video and realized that the bank robbery suspect bore no resemblance to him according to KTLA. The photograph of Belk sitting indignantly on the curb, legs crossed while officers of the Beverly Hills Police Department stand guard over him has been shared almost 30,000 times on the social network. Belk, who has worked with the NAACP to produce their Image Awards and on An Evening of Stars tributes to music legends Chaka Khan and Lionel Richie, took to Facebook to express his deep disappointment and concern over his arrest. ‘I get that the Beverly Hills Police Department didn’t know that I was a well educated American citizen that had received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Indiana University … and an executive leadership certificate from Harvard Business School,’ wrote Belk on Facebook. ‘Hey, I was ‘tall,’ ‘bald,’ a ‘male’ and ‘black,’ so I fit the description.’ Describing the distressing moment he was pulled over, Belk said ‘It’s one of those things that you heard about, but never think it would happen to you.’ Belk, who was the Deputy Director of Olympic Village Operations for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games was pulled over at around 5.20pm. ‘Within minutes, I was surrounded by 6 police cars, handcuffed very tightly, fully searched for weapons, and placed back on the curb,’ wrote the angry television producer. ‘Within an hour, I was transported to the Beverly Hills Police Headquarters, photographed, finger printed and put under a $100,000 bail and accused of armed bank robbery and accessory to robbery of a Citibank.’ Worryingly, Belk said that his arrest could have turned out drastically different and alluded to the current climate of tension that exists between law enforcement and African Americans. ‘The sad thing is, prior to my freedom being taken from me for an easily proven crime I did not commit, I was walking back to my car, by myself, because I needed to check my parking meter, so that I wouldn’t get a ticket and break the law,’ wrote Belk. ‘In fact, if it wasn’t for a text message that I was responding to, I would have actually been running up LaCienega Blvd when the first Beverly Hills Police Officer approached me. Via NBCconnecticut : A 2-year-old girl was left in a car overnight outside a sports bar in Bristol, Connecticut, while the mother spent the evening in the hospital because she was intoxicated, police said. Police arrested Kelsey James, 22, of Bristol, after learning that her daughter was left in her car for more than five hours. Employees said that James seemed drunk when she arrived City Sports Grill in Bristol on Friday and they refused to serve her any drinks. Bar employees called police, who responded to the 177 Farmington Avenue bar at about 11:56 p.m. on Friday to investigate a report of a woman found sleeping at the bar who was “intoxicated and incapacitated,” according to police. She was taken to Bristol Hospital for treatment and to be evaluated. When she woke up at about 5:20 a.m., she asked hospital staff where her baby was, so the hospital contacted police. Police found her 2-year-old daughter sleeping in the mother’s car at the sports bar parking lot, where she was left while her mother was in the bar and then the hospital, according to police. The baby was taken to Bristol Hospital to be evaluated and is okay, police said. She is being kept in the hospital until Department of Children and Families representatives arrive in response to the incident. Police charged James with risk of injury and leaving a child unsupervised in a vehicle, according to police. So not only did she drive drunk with the baby in the car, but she left her unattended to get even more liquor. She’s lucky her daughter is okay, and it is DEFINITELY time to attend some meetings. Woman Crashes Car Into Cyclist And Hides Drugs In Private Parts Via NBC San Diego reports: A wrong-way motorist accused of driving under the influence of meth and hitting and injuring multiple cyclists on Fiesta Island in San Diego was found with a baggie of meth hidden in her vagina, a deputy district attorney said Friday. Theresa L. Owens, looking disheveled and distraught, pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on a charge of felony DUI with injury and possession of a controlled substance. “Tell them I’m so sorry,” she whispered to her attorney once the judge ordered her bail and set her next court hearing. Bail was set at $300,000, though Deputy District Attorney Jessica Coto had requested $500,000 bail because of the seriousness of the injuries and the number of people hurt in the crash. Owens’ attorney had requested $200,000 bail, indicating that was the standard amount for those charges. San Diego police said Owens was driving her vehicle on Fiesta Island Road around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when her car struck about 10 cyclists in a larger group finishing up a training ride. Six people went to the hospital with injuries, including Juan Carlos Vinolo, who was paralyzed and remains in critical condition. Coto said Owens was acting “erratically” after the crash and was screaming, running around and rambling. When she was checked out at the hospital, a nurse found a bag of meth hidden in her vagina, leading to the possession charge, Coto said. Several of the cyclists attended Friday’s arraignment, including Logan Bass, who was clipped by the front end of the car and suffered a contusion to his ribs, road rash on his elbow and a cut on his foot. “I’m definitely lucky just looking at Juan. That was me for sure if I didn’t react,” he said. Bass said he normally feels safe on Fiesta Island when he takes part in the weekly Tuesday night cycling runs with the San Diego Bicycling Club. “This just happened to be an unfortunate night,” he said. This is jacked up on so many levels… Body Of US Woman Found In Suitcase On Bali Resort, Victim’s Daughter & Boyfriend Arrested The body of an American woman who was beaten to death was discovered inside a suitcase abandoned in an Indonesian taxi and it looks like her 18-year-old daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend may be responsible. According to CNN reports: An 18-year-old American woman and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the killing of the woman’s mother, whose body was found inside a suitcase at a luxury hotel in Bali, CNN affiliate Trans TV reported Wednesday. Sheila von Weise Mack, 62, was found beaten to death and stuffed in a suitcase at the prestigious St. Regis Bali Resort on Tuesday, Djoko Hariutomo, the police chief of Denpasar, the capital of Bali, told the broadcaster. Her daughter, Heather Mack, and the daughter’s 21-year-old boyfriend, Peter Schaefer, were later found by police sleeping in a hotel room in Kuta, according to Trans TV. Kuta is a town about 10 kilometers (6 miles) away from the St. Regis. Police said that the couple told them that they had been taken captive at the resort Tuesday by an armed gang whose members killed Sheila, but that they later managed to escape, Trans TV reported. However, hotel workers and the taxi driver who turned in the body to police gave a different version of events. The taxi driver told police that Heather Mack and Schaefer hailed him at the St. Regis, placing one bag in the trunk and two more in the back seat, according to Trans TV. They then reportedly went back in to the hotel and did not return. After two hours went by, the taxi driver said he entered the hotel and spoke to employees, who went to the family’s rooms and found them empty. When the taxi driver and a manager opened the trunk, they saw blood on the luggage and drove the car to a police station, where the woman’s body was found inside a hard-sided grey piece of luggage, Trans TV reported. Police told the broadcaster that the woman was from Minnesota, according to her documents. But CNN could not immediately confirm her place of residence. The St. Regis is one of the most upmarket hotels on Bali, a popular tourist destination. Room rates at the resort start at $470 a night, according to its website. So messed up. An undercover police officer went to the spa Thursday afternoon, posing as a massage customer. Midway through the rub-down employee Mei Shu Jiang, 45, offered him sex in exchange for $60, officials said. As other officers forced their way into the locked spa, Jiang and another worker, Shanji An, 42, climbed out a second-story window and ran across a roof. They captured in a nearby courtyard, Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said, according to NJ.com. The wife who reported the establishment told police she had gone from room to room in the warren-like building and saw sexual acts being performed, Russo said. After she called police, the customers fled. She then posted fliers around the neighborhood, accusing the massage parlor of offering sex for money.
