According to the Journal Sentinel , a Black woman with an unusual name has overcome a lifetime of haters and downtalkers to earn her doctorate degree. 46-year-old Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck, DOCTOR Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck, graduated from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin last month. She says she absolutely refused to change her given name in order to show people that you can overcome things that people say will hold you back. Teachers, classmates, bosses and even some friends refused to call her by her name and tried to opt-out for “Mary”. She wasn’t having it. Those criticisms even inspired Marijuana to title her dissertation: “Black names in white classrooms: Teacher behaviors and student perceptions.” Her mother, Maggie (Brandy) Johnson, who still lives in Beloit, picked out her name and proclaimed that it would take her around the world. Her sisters, one older and one younger, got relatively common names, Kimberly and Robin. When asked about her thoughts on the legalization of her namesake she says: “My main concern are the individuals serving time for marijuana-related offenses. I would like to see all their sentences overturned. These people were locked up for making money from the sale of marijuana, and now that the government has figured out ways to make the money themselves, it is ‘legal’ and, further, encouraged.” For the record, Marijuana says she’s never smoked and doesn’t drink Pepsi. “I feel great. I party with drunk people; you can’t tell us apart.” She also doesn’t drink Pepsi or other soda except for an occasional fruity soft drink in an ice cream float. God bless the good sis. Back in April, 90 Day Fiance fans were concerned and a little suspicious when Steven Frend returned to America without Olga . He kept promising to bring his fiancee –and baby — back to the US, then went silent. But fans have long suspected that Olga very quietly came to the US with baby Alex, and now, she has confirmed that. Olga took to Instagram on Wednesday morning to finally confirm what fans already knew in their hearts. “The humidity is killing me,” Olga admitted. That’s not something that people generally say in Russia. “I’m still getting used to this weather,” she adds. “For a past few days,” Olga continues. “I already get sick because of AC.” Air conditioning itself doesn’t make people sick, but going in and out of hot weather and cool air can play games with your immune system. “But there is a good news,” Olga writes. “Me and Alex learned how to use the metro and went home on our own (2.5 km).” It is believed that they are living in Maryland. “So,” she adds. “We are making little steps” “I would be very grateful if you tell me where you can buy good (cheap) children’s things (diapers, etc.),” Olga tells her followers. “And,” she asks. “Other lifehacks where you can save money.” Olga concludes by reminding fans that many of the photos she’s posted lately are just “old pictures from trip to Moscow :)” Earlier in June, Olga dropped some further hints to her fans and followers. “I took a big break from Instagram for some reasons,” Olga wrote with deliberate vagueness. “But now,” she assured her fans and followers. “Everything is fine.” She even shows off a smiling emoticon to prove it. “Thank you guys for all your messages,” Olga wrote to her enduring supporters. “And,” she concluded, she appreciates “that you’re still with me.” Awww! (Reminder: their baby’s name is Richie Aleksandr, but they call him Alex — confusion is understandable) The thing is that they’ve been playing things close to the chest … and we think we know why. Steven Frend sharing this sweet mother-son photo was all but confirmation that they were reunited in Maryland. But what possible reason could they have for playing coy — for months — about their whereabouts? They wouldn’t be on social media like they are if they didn’t want to keep fans updated. On the surface, Jenelle Evans and Ashley Martson have quite a lot in common. They’re both reality stars; they both have seriously questionable taste in men; both would apparently break out in hives if they ever went more than 30 seconds without spouting some sort of obvious lie … the list goes on and on. But the same things can be said about countless awful reality stars. So why are Jenelle and Ashley both appearing in so many of the same headlines, and why is one media outlet apparently under the impression that they’re the same person? It all started Wednesday morning when E! News ran a story claiming that Jenelle had been hospitalized for lupus. “I am dealing with a lupus flare-up and pyelonephritis,” the site quoted Evans. “I also have a large cyst on my left ovary the surgeons are coming down to evaluate if they need to remove or not. “They have started an IV of Levaquin and have me in morphine and Zofran.” A source told the site that Evans and husband David Eason have been “quietly dealing” with the diagnosis. The insider went on to explain that the stress from Jenelle having her kids taken away seems to have resulted in a flare-up of symptoms: “Things have been so intensely stressful for her that it’s made her sick to the point that she had to be rushed to the hospital,” the tipster claimed. But there are a few problems with this story, namely, the fact that Jenelle doesn’t have lupus; she’s not in the hospital; and she doesn’t “quietly deal with” anything. If she had an actual diagnosable medical condition, Jenelle would be shouting it from the rooftops and using it as an excuse for why she neglected her kids to the point that CPS felt they were no longer safe. However, Ashley Martson does have lupus — and it seems that’s who E! meant to report on today. Their original article has since been amended to reflect that. Mix-ups happen, of course, but this is a big one — and a weird one. How did someone at E! confuse Ashley for Jenelle? And more importantly, why didn’t the site publish a retraction once it became evident that a major mistake had been made? Several sites and countless social media accounts ran with the story, and for several hours, confusion reigned across the internet. And it seems Jenelle wasn’t the only victim here. Ashley was so upset by false reports that she checked into rehab that she eventually just deleted her Instagram account entirely. Granting an interview to E! may have been her way of clearing the air about what’s really going on — and the network appears to have dropped the ball and muddied the waters by dragging Jenelle into the mix.
