Source: aydinmutlu / Getty South Korean Doctor Performs Abortion On Wrong Patient Let’s be crystal clear from the gate, if we were this woman, there would be VIOLENCE ! According to CNN , a doctor in South Korea is being investigated by police after he accidentally performed an abortion on the wrong woman. On August 7, a pregnant patient with a 6-week-old fetus had gone to a clinic in district of Gangseo, in the country’s capital Seoul, according to the Gangseo police. At the clinic, a mix-up in medical charts and failure to check her identity led to the mistaken abortion. South Korean news platform YonHap reported that the victim came to the clinic to receive a nutrition shot and the nurse injected her with anesthesia without confirming her identity. The doctor then performed the abortion, also without confirming her identity. The patient had no idea what was happening until it was over. Abortion was just made legal in South Korea and all laws must be revised by December 31, 2020 according to CNN, but as of now, the procedure is illegal and is punishable by 1 year in prison. Violence. On God.
Source: SOPA Images / Getty Oh H&M . The Swedish based company is back under fire again after an ad appeared online with a young Black girl’s natural hair looking unkempt. The disheveled ad was blasted by celebrity hairstylist Vernon François , who shared the photo on Instagram and noted that he sees “situations like this happen time and time again. And it’s got to stop.” “It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the @hm_kids campaign,” François wrote. ” Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again. And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more than capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community” View this post on Instagram It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the @hm_kids campaign. Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again. And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more then capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture. As if that’s not bad enough…. Prior to this campaign appearing this photograph will have been seen and APPROVED by countless ‘professionals'. Lets say conservatively 50 people. It’s breathtaking to me that not one person looked at this shot and had the same reaction that the internet seems to be feeling since the campaign broke. THAT IS AN ISSUE. We must do better. Our girls, our young women deserve better. Let this be a moment of learning. #Education is key #wehavetodobetter #vernonfrancois #Ignorance #blackgirlmagic #allhairisgoodhair A post shared by Vernon François (@vernonfrancois) on Sep 19, 2019 at 9:33pm PDT Since the outrage, H&M has responded to the backlash but not in a way that you would expect. The discount retail giant revealed that all of the children were photographed the same way and that the idea was to capture them in their natural state after school, which left many to argue that it wasn’t H&M’s fault for the child’s appearance, but the parent’s. “We are aware of the comments regarding one of our models for H&M Kids. We truly believe that all kids should be allowed to be kids. The school-aged kids who model for us come to the photo studio in the afternoon after school and we aim for a natural look which reflects that,” H&M said in a statement to Yahoo . Although the family of the young girl in question has yet to respond, the fact remains that while all of the children in the subsequent ads look tousled, African-Americans have yet to accept and truly embrace 4b and 4c textured hair. Even when you look at our own ads for hair care and promoting the “natural” look, most women chosen have textures that are still very Eurocentric. It’s no secret that women in the natural community have often voiced their disdain over not feeling adequate with their natural textures, due to 3b and 3c being the heavily promoted look-so the question isn’t who’s to blame, it’s are we really being honest about our own feelings regarding textures with tighter coils? As Bustle points out, 4b and 4c hair have long been viewed as the “bad hair grade”, but many had hoped with the explosion of the natural hair movement in the early 2000s that we would rewrite the narrative, but as we can see by our own words during the controversy, we still have a long ways to go. H&M AT IT AGAIN They wrong for that. Where the child mama? I hope she sue them for public humiliation, defamation of character, and discrimination They could had a stylist touch this child hair. Pathetic pic.twitter.com/egxNJza1Sz — Shawda' Love (@Shawdaaaa) September 20, 2019 “There was a period in time that I hated my hair,” Charlene Akuamoah, a stylist said in her interview with the publication . “I thought it was so difficult to manage: It was rough, the curls were too tight, it didn’t look ‘presentable,’ it was always dry, and I felt like I looked better with straight hair. I [thought] that my hair had to be tamed.” Sentiments echoed throughout the complaint of the child’s appearance in the ad. While H&M is undoubtedly tone-deaf regarding race in advertisements, this time the fingers we are pointing should be aimed at the real perpetrators-us. Please people, let’s uplift this little girl! She’s killing her H&M shoots with her natural 4C hair. Lil sis is serving us poses and she looks happy and beautiful #Queenin pic.twitter.com/8z92Gi51rF — insta:msyasmine (@msyasmine_) September 20, 2019 I don't blame h&m, i blame the interwoke folks whos heroes are internet goddesses with 4c buns and TEXTURIZED edges. — ike slimster (@iKeslimster) September 21, 2019 Why y’all keep singling out the one black girl from the H&M ad? ALL the kids’ hairstyles were messed up. How come the other children aren’t getting this backlash? Hair texture got y’all twisting for excuses like pretzels. But anywho- pic.twitter.com/ksludbLayc — Tenille Clarke (@tenilleclarke1) September 20, 2019 There is a little Black girl whose face is floating around the internet who should be celebrating landing a modeling opportunity for H&M right now. Instead she’ll have to see commentary over how her hair should’ve looked better. — Negrita (@HustleAndFro_) September 20, 2019 Hopefully, the reality and exposure of the tainted way we still view our natural selves will help us change the narrative in our own community. Representation matters, especially when you see it loved among the very people you are representing to the world.
Source: Splash / Splash News Earlier this month it was reported that Kanye West had put down a King Kong grip on 4,500 acres of land in Cody,Wyoming where he and Kim Kardashian found themselves harassing innocent wildlife who clearly didn’t sign up for that ish. Still, Kanye West is all about that “love thy neighbor” life these days and decided to throw one of his signature Sunday Service sermons at the Buffalo Bill Center of The West and invited his new neighbors to bare witness to the hottest ticket in town. Needless to say people showed up in droves to turn up and take in the gospel of Yeezus in all it’s musical glory. According to TMZ some 700+ people attended the Sunday gathering at BBCW’s Powwow Garden where aside from the typical Kanye inspired tunes the crowd rocked out to renditions of classic Nirvana songs “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Come As You Are” amongst other joints. Kanye really knows how to endear himself to them white folks in the Midwest. Check out videos of Kanye’s Sunday Service show in Wyoming below and let us know your thoughts. Source: John Shearer / Getty Anyone not following Jidenna’s travels through the Motherland on Instagram really needs to do so now! Our well-traveled Pan-African bae recently posted a video of himself at a market in Senegal haggling with a vendor over a hat. The 85 to Africa -rapper positioned the video as a tutorial on how to negotiate prices when you go to the market. In the video, we see him going back and forth with the vendor and bluffing as if he was going to walk away before the vendor caves and gives him the price he deems more fair. Jidenna’s travel videos come at a really good time, especially since it’s the Year Of Return, a concept that has been trending all year. And honestly, we just need for Jidenna to get a travel show already! View this post on Instagram For the hundreds of thousands of you in the Diaspora who are returning to Africa in December, this is how you don’t get ripped off as a “Yankee”. The strategy is usually the same but the style and intensity of your voice will vary from country to country (Dakar markets are more calm than Lagos markets, so I’m far less agressive here than I usually am ). A post shared by Jidenna (@jidenna) on Sep 22, 2019 at 5:34am PDT Anyway, don’t be fooled by how cool Jidenna makes it look. The market experience in the Motherland is a serious part of the culture. It’s something that you will probably want to put on your to do list, no matter what country your visit, but there are unspoken rules you should follow, and haggling is one of them. I have been to Ghana twice, as well as Togo, and the markets I experienced were sensory overload. I mean, people were selling literally some of anything and they have no qualms about getting all up in your face with the things they have to offer. However, while I did participate in haggling with vendors, I must admit, I was filled with anxiety, especially because you have to get really aggressive sometimes and I prefer to be laid back. Ideally, I just preferred that they would set one fair price and let me be great, but nope. Haggling is what they do, and if you are a Yankee aka an outsider, best believe they are going to jack up the price 5-fold in some cases. I traveled solo during my first trip to Ghana, and my driver was nice enough to accompany me to the market. I had a moment where I was so overwhelmed — because people will be trying to sell me things while I was still in the middle of another transaction — that I was going to just make the purchase at whatever the price was and my driver said absolutely not! He said that I was about to pay way too much money and that the vendor was a crook. It was a $20 Kente cloth clutch that I had talked down from $40, so I thought that was good. I was okay with paying the $20 but my driver demanded that we leave because he didn’t like the price. We got that down to $15. I had something similar happen during my second trip to Ghana. My friend’s mother, a native Ghanaian, scolded me and the vendor. She told me that the price was way too high for a shirt that I wanted, and that I should never settle because they always try to get over on foreigners. She then told the vendor, in Twi (Ghanians speak English, but prefer their native languages, and if you can speak their native tongues then you will yield better results), that she was being ridiculous. It took that moment for the vendor to relent and give me a price that was slashed by at least a quarter. Every time I went to the market after that I made sure to have a local person with me. In Togo, my group was hosted by an influential businessman from the country, and he was the only one who spoke the language (In Togo it’s French as well as various native tongues, including Ewe, and Kabiy é, among over 40 more depending on region). He made sure that we got what we needed without the smoke. So, the more connections you have, the better. That’s my advice to you if you ever find yourself in an African market! Go with a local, stand your ground, and don’t be afraid to walk away if you don’t like the price, which will probably be marked up by quadruple. Nine times out of 10, vendors won’t let you walk away without making a sale so they will meet you in the middle. Now, go forth and get your Year of Return on! Source: photo: WENN When it was announced that Twilight star Robert Pattinson would be replacing Ben Affleck as the Batman , DC and Warner Bros. immediately saw a backlash from fans who saw this move as a money grab intended to sway Twilight tweens to pack theaters to see Edward Cullen evolve from a teen vampire to a full grown Batman. Though word around the script itself is rumored to center around the classic Batman mini-series The Long Halloween , nothing else has been said about the upcoming Matt Reeves directed film. Until now. According to Variety , fan favorite comedy actor Jonah Hill has been tapped to play the Dark Knight’s antagonist in the upcoming film and though his character continues to be a mystery it is believed that the Superbad actor will either be donning the umbrella and top hat of The Penguin or the cane and question mark etched outfit of The Riddler. While Variety also lists Mr. Freeze as another possible role for Hill, he seems more like a Penguin or Riddler kind of character. Just sayin.’ Regardless of which character he plays his inclusion in The Batman is definitely welcomed by Batman fans and will certainly give us more reason to put down our money at the box office when the Dark Knight swings into theaters sometime in June of 2021. But if Robert Pattinson’s Batman is indeed going to follow the storyline of The Long Halloween , then Jonah Hill won’t be the only villain involved in the film as the classic Jeph Loeb storyline included appearances from a few familiar villains from the Batman universe. Here’s to hoping that DC and Warner Bros. doesn’t screw this one up too and turn Jonah Hill into yet another iteration of the Joker or even worse, Bane. Jonah Hill has been looking particularly pumped these days though so you never know.

Trust me, we are too. Rapper Kamaiyah has been laying low since being on the cover of the XXL Freshmen List back in 2017, but now, she’s in some pretty hot water in California. The rapper has been arrested and charged with felony negligent discharge of a firearm. According to reports from TMZ , the San Fernando Valley police say that no one was a target in the shooting and the firearm being discharged was a total accident–but unfortunately for Kamaiyah, that doesn’t make it legal by any means. Police say that the Oakland native was hanging out at an apartment building in the San Fernando Valley, where she and some friends made their way into the facility’s movie screening room. So not an actual movie theater, but pretty close. Anyway, on surveillance footage reviewed by management (and later reviewed by law enforcement), a woman authorities believe to be Kamaiyah was seen pulling a handgun from inside her bag before letting a round go in the room. She ended up darting away shortly afterward. According to law enforcement, it appears that the discharge of the weapon was purely accidental and the gun went off as Kamaiyah was playing with it. After being booked, the rapper was released on $35,000 bond and went on her way. Her only hope now is that she has a great lawyer who can make this whole headache go away. Luckily, no one was struck by the gunfire and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. View this post on Instagram The healthiest thing I’ve learned how to do is be alone. Source: CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / Getty Despite what our bonehead “president” and his army of lame Republicans say, climate change R E A L. Companies, for the most part, have been trying to figure out how they can help reduce their carbon footprints. PlayStation announced that will be teaming up with the United Nations to make their next console eco-friendly. Announced via the companies blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President & CEO, Jim Ryan will be joining leaders in the gaming industry at the UN Climate Summit. Through a new partnership called the Playing for the Planet alliance, they will all make formal commitments to help contribute to the efforts. Ryan announced that the company will be continuing efforts it started with the PlayStation 4 but taking things a step further with the PS5 . The next-generation console will give owners if they choose to put the console in standby mode at a much lower power consumption than the previous model. Per PlayStation: At SIE, we have made substantial commitments and efforts to reduce the power consumption of the PS4 by utilizing efficient technologies such as System-on-a-Chip architecture integrating a high-performance graphics processor, die shrink, power scaling, as well as energy-saving modes such as Suspend-to-RAM. For context, we estimate the carbon emissions we have avoided to date already amount to almost 16 million metric tons, increasing to 29 million metric tons over the course of the next 10 years (which equals the CO2 emissions for the nation of Denmark in 2017). I am also very pleased to announce the next-generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes. The new power-saving setting will be an optional choice for users. Sony is hoping that people who buy the console will decide to think of the planet when powering on their PlayStation 5 consoles. Alright, can we slow down with the remakes and the reboots? According to Deadline , Barry Michael Cooper’s classic crime movie New Jack City is getting a reboot at Warner Bros. There’s no director slated to helm the project but Snowfall fans will be happy because writer Malcolm M. Mays is attached to write the script. And you know Snowfall is arguably the best show on TV, right? The original movie dropped in 1991 with Mario Van Peebles directing and starred Wesley Snipes , Ice-T , Chris Rock , Flavor Flav , Allen Payne and more. It spawned classic characters such as Nino Brown and featured Snipes’ Nino Brown as a NYC drug lord during the height of the crack era and Ice-T’s detective going undercover to infiltrate it. Remember The Carter? Remember Rock-a-bye-baby? Remember “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Yeah, that classic. But here’s the question – are you down for a reboot of New Jack City ? Sound off on social media. RELATED: Wesley Snipes Is All For Mahershala Ali For The Upcoming ‘Blade’ Reboot RELATED: Aaron McGruder Returning For Upcoming Reboot Of ‘The Boondocks’
