Justin Bieber And Boyz II Men Unwrap ‘Fa La La’ Video

Black-and-white video showcases Bieber’s heartfelt singing with his idols. By Rob Markman Shawn Stockman and Justin Bieber Photo: LiveWire Entertainment Christmas is right around the corner, but the Biebs is already in the holiday spirit. On Wednesday (November 23), Justin Bieber dropped the video for “Fa La La” with Boyz II Men . There are no reindeer or presents under the tree; instead, Justin and the Philadelphia R&B outfit sing of a warm love that will endure through the holiday season. The black-and-white clip begins in an empty loft, where Bieber sings alone, with his arms flailing and face slightly scrunching every time he hits those heartfelt notes. Justin’s solo intro leads way to a collaborative bridge, where Boyz II Men join in. “Baby you de-serve eve-ry-thing you want/ It’s your night,” they all sing in harmony as the “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye” vocalists join the teenage star in song on the front porch of a brick house. No elaborate set needed. With an empty city as their backdrop, the four crooners throw down in an old-fashioned sing-off. As the track builds, BIIM’s Wanya Morris really gets into it, pounding his chest and kicking one leg up to accentuate his performance. Bieber, who is dressed in a white tee and slim-cut leather jacket, tugs on his collar to let you just how much his words mean to him. On November 1, Bieber teased the clip when he tweeted, “Killed it with @BoyzIImen on DWTS and then just shot a video for our song #FALALA with @colintilley – great night! living a dream. Thanku,” in reference to his appearance on “Dancing With The Stars” and the Colin Tilley-directed “Fa La La” video. Maybe some of Boyz II Men’s subject matter was a bit mature for the pint-size Bieber, but they influenced him nonetheless. “He told us his mom didn’t want him to sing ‘I’ll Make Love to You,’ so he’d sneak and go sing it somewhere,” Wanya Morris told MTV News. “It’s also good to know we’ve influenced such a good artist. It’s something that makes us feel we’ve accomplished [something and] we’re doing our job, [that] a guy so young and so into his craft [is] influenced by three guys from Philadelphia that love to sing.” Yes, “Fa La La” is the latest single from JB’s holiday LP, Under the Mistletoe, but Tilley and company didn’t overload the video with Christmas themes as to so implicitly tie it to December 25 — after all, true love should last all year ’round. Lady Gaga Gets Crafty In Thanksgiving Special Preview

‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,’ airing Thursday on ABC, will feature a performance of ‘Marry the Night.’ By James Dinh Lady Gaga in ABC’s “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving” Photo: ABC Gather ’round, Little Monsters! Lady Gaga is serving up something special during a preview for her very-first 90-minute holiday TV special, “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,” which will air at 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday on ABC. “So excited for everyone to see the Thanksgiving Special I directed!” the pop star wrote on Twitter alongside a link to a preview. “Getting into the holiday spirit!” In a three-minute teaser, Mother Monster gathers with a crowd of third-grade children from her former elementary school to make some festive crafts and share personal holiday-food traditions. “I want everyone to go around the room and say one thing that their family makes for Thanksgiving,” she tells the swarm of girls. Gaga is met with a number of answers, including turkey, ham and pumpkin pie, and one girl’s choice leads Gaga to reveal one of her favorite Thanksgiving foods: “I love cranberry sauce. My mom makes the best cranberry sauce ever!” she tells the student. It’s just some simple chit-chat as they create Thanksgiving crafts and later help the pop superstar tie her apron. In addition to the festive footage, Gaga also takes to an intimate stage to perform “Bad Romance” and, later on, to an outside balcony for her latest single, “Marry the Night.” Dressed in a shoulder-less black dress with matching hand gloves, the songstress channels her inner Audrey Hepburn as she offers fans some dramatic poses during the number. Can’t get enough of Gaga’s holiday tunes? The singer just released a four-track digital EP called A Very Gaga Holiday on iTunes, which includes “White Christmas,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “Yo

Nickelback Detroit ‘Debacle’ Perfect For Funny Or Die

‘We’re huge fans of Funny or Die and anything Will Ferrell is associated with — we’re there,’ Chad Kroeger tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Chad Kroeger of Nickelback Photo: Getty Images The ongoing situation between fans of the Detroit Lions and Nickelback — which, for the uninitiated, involves the band’s performance during the team’s Thanksgiving game, an online petition and the United Way — is the kind of thing that practically lends itself to parody. So it’s no surprise that the folks over at Funny or Die have decided to enter the fray, with a new video that actually stars the Canadian quartet. Given the rather vehement acrimony the band has suffered thanks to the petition (which, at last count, includes more than 75,000 signatures and messages like “Haven’t the good people of Detroit been through enough?”), you’d probably be surprised to learn that, as soon as they were approached by FoD, Nickelback said yes to the spoof. Then again, they’re the kind of band that is definitely aware of their public perception. “They called us up. They said, ‘This whole debacle that’s going on in Detroit it just lunacy. We here in the comedy field think it’s just perfect for making fun of, and if you guys would like to come down here … ‘ ” frontman Chad Kroeger told MTV News. “We’re huge fans of Funny or Die and anything Will Ferrell is associated with — we’re there. So we’re like, ‘Absolutely, we’d love to come and make fun of the whole thing and ourselves at the same time.’ ” Of course, Nickelback will also be the first to admit that perhaps their acting skills aren’t up to par. Which is why the only thing standing in the way of their Funny or Die clip’s viral success may be Nickelback themselves. “As soon as they get real actors to take our places, then it’s going to be viral,” guitarist Ryan Peake laughed. Demi Lovato Is A ‘Powerhouse,’ Hot Chelle Rae Say

‘She took it up a notch in a way that we couldn’t have imagined,’ lead singer Ryan Keith Follese says of Whatever duet. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Demi Lovato Photo: MLB/Getty Riding high off the success of their track “Tonight Tonight,” Nashville’s Hot Chelle Rae are prepping the release of their album Whatever, due out November 29. In addition to the top 40 hit, HCR also show off their skills on 10 tracks, and they invited some pals to the party. Among those friends is Demi Lovato, who appears on “Why Don’t You Love Me.” The group’s lead singer, Ryan Keith Follese, dished about the Unbroken singer to MTV News when we caught up with them at Sunday’s American Music Awards (the group took home the prize for New Artist of the Year). “Honestly, I’m really, really proud of the song we did with Demi,” Follese said. “We did a song called ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ … and we’re such a huge fan of hers.” Lovato’s big voice made her the perfect choice for the track. “She’s such a powerhouse female vocalist for our generation and the one below us,” he gushed, “And I just can’t wait for the world to hear that song. She took it up a notch in a way that we couldn’t have imagined.” So what should fans expect from the track? “It is such a ballad, such a duet. If you can imagine a classic love song, that’s what it is,” he teased. Whatever features Lovato, but also appearances from the New Boyz on “I Like It Like That.” Bei Maejor, who dropped the track “Trouble” with J. Cole earlier this year, appears on the song “Radio.” Are you looking forward to Hot Chelle Rae’s duet with Demi? Tell us in the comments! Elizabeth Olsen Talks ‘Amazing’ 2011

Actress’ banner year has been ‘learning experience,’ she tells MTV News as part of Thankful Week. By Eric Ditzian Elizabeth Olsen Photo: MTV News By any sort of Hollywood metric, Elizabeth Olsen has had a wonderful year. In January, the actress became the talk of Sundance with the debut of the harrowing drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and a claustrophobic horror flick, “Silent House.” In subsequent months she took on roles opposite everyone from Zac Efron to Robert De Niro, and she’ll soon star with Glenn Close in the period drama “Therese Raquin.” And as 2011 inches to a close, her name has cropped up in awards-season talk: She’s already nabbed an ensemble Gotham Awards nomination and could well find herself in the Golden Globe and Oscar mix. Not bad. But when you consider this is the first year that Olsen has been on the entertainment scene — unless you count long-ago appearances with her sisters in those “Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley” musicals — the 22-year-old’s 2011 goes from generally wonderful to simply magical (and no doubt jealousy-inducing for her peers). And that’s why we’ve named Elizabeth Olsen one of the actresses we’re most thankful for this year. We recently sat down with her to look back at her accomplishments, to look forward to what she has coming down the line, and to find out what she’ll do if she ends up winning awards this season. MTV News : You know you might have to start giving some speeches soon … Elizabeth Olsen : I have zero expectation on any of that. I didn’t even have anything beforehand that I could think the movie would become what it has become, with a great distributor, good buzz. This year has been such a learning experience. It’s been amazing. I feel like I have an understanding of so many different aspects after making a movie. Before I didn’t even know how to make a movie, and then I realized I didn’t even know how to promote a movie, and then I realized there’s a whole process of doing that that’s even longer than making the movie. You just have to be thankful that you have the opportunity to get to do that and people want to talk to you about your work. MTV : Is there one surreal moment from this year that encapsulates what a crazy run you’ve been having? Olsen : The first thing that came to my head when you said that was I remember when I finished making [“Martha Marcy”] and I had dinner with my friend in the East Village. I was totally thrown off because I was in upstate New York for three months, and then I was in the East Village on a Saturday night and was so confused that people acted the way they acted. I was like, “Why are people so abrasive? It’s so weird.” I remember telling my friend, talking about making this movie, that I literally had the best experience of my life working on something. And that’s including all the fun stuff you made with your friends in elementary school. MTV : Speaking of promoting a film, do you read your own press at this point? Olsen : At this point I’m interested in those things. Give me a couple months and I probably won’t be. I don’t know why. I think those opinions change all the time. Right now I’m just interested because I’m fascinated by the movie so I’m fascinated about what people think and get from the movie, because it is very unique. MTV : Your co-star John Hawkes has compared your performance in “Martha Marcy” to Jennifer Lawrence’s in “Winter’s Bone.” With “Hunger Games” she’s now made the leap to a high-profile franchise. Is it only a matter of time before we see you in a “Transformers” or a “Spider-Man”? Olsen : I don’t know, but I don’t think so. I’m just trying to pick whatever’s most interesting to me at that point. I’m not trying to think of things studio or non-studio. There are a bunch of things I’d like to do in 2012 that are all very different from each other. What they all have in common are amazing people to work with and an interesting character to try and create. MTV : Above and beyond the acting, do you have ambitions to write or direct? Olsen : No, I don’t. I like doing this. Dialogue I’m very bad at. I do like writing essays. MTV : That is kind of nerdy. Olsen : I know! I like writing essays. I have to write one tonight. So much fun! MTV : Have you adjusted to being on set away from friends and family? Because that experience can be isolating. Olsen : I would like to think that I’m really good at adjusting to changes. But I’m not as good as I thought I was. When I was working in Spain, that was really hard. It was a long shoot and it was Spain and I was coming in the middle of shooting, so everyone had already been there for six weeks and no one was going out to explore the city anymore. I was just by myself. But in situations like that, you do call your family. My sisters came and visited me. It was hard to be there and not even have the option of making a quick phone call and meeting up with someone. But now when I look back on being in Spain, I don’t really think of it as being lonely. But at the moment, you know, I thought I really knew what loneliness was. I was like, “This is so lonely!” MTV : Let’s talk about “Very Good Girls,” in which you’ll be co-starring with Dakota Fanning. When is that shoot going to happen? Olsen : We have to wait, because it’s set in New York in the summertime. We’ll do it next year. Dakota and I know each other, since we have the same mutual friends and went to the same high school. We’ve had dinner with the director, just chatting and trying to figure out what we can do to maybe change the script a bit, change scenes. MTV : What was the key thing that attracted you to the role? Olsen : The thing that’s great about this script is I treat my relationships with my girlfriends as family and as probably the most important relationships in my life. I’ve had the same friends since I was in kindergarten. I feel like a lot of times in film and television, you don’t get a chance to understand that type of relationship. “Sex in the City” is the closest thing you get to it. I think [“Very Good Girls”] is a great depiction of two young girls’ friendship when they’re graduating high school. MTV : It seems like this role is the closest to your experience. Olsen : Totally. It’s important to be in a film like that. And everyone involved is going to be great to work with. Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg Video Debuts Wednesday On MTV

‘Young, Wild & Free’ is first clip off ‘Mac & Devin Go to High School’ soundtrack. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa on the set of “Young, Wild & Free” Photo: Matt Elias/MTV News The school year may already be in full swing, but on Wednesday, fans will get their first glimpse of Snoop Dogg and ‘s “Mac & Devin Go to High School” film when the smoked-out duo premiere the video for “Young, Wild & Free” on MTV. Starting at 6 a.m. ET the video will debut across MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV.com and MTV Jams, where it will play every hour. Directed by Dylan Brown, “Young, Wild & Free,” featuring Bruno Mars on the hook, is the first video from the official “Mac & Devin Go to High School” soundtrack. While integrating movie scenes into music videos sometimes gets cumbersome, Dogg and Khalifa worked things out by cleverly filming the clip in a Montclair, California, drive-in theater. “We got some more party scenes where we just gonna be doing our verses and having the scenes from the movie play on the big screen from the actual movie ‘Mac & Devin Go to High School,’ ” Snoop told MTV News on the video set back in October. “So people get a chance to see a few scenes and see us perform at the same time.” In one particular scene, the pair race in off-road karts, with some choice video models in tow. “We just getting it crackin’ in the parking lot, man, turning this thing out, so we had a couple of our little friends in the car and we drove fast,” Wiz said. “I had to level out the playing field; I had some weight issues so I had a couple of girls roll with me to level out my car,” Snoop jokingly added. The song is a carefree affair, with Mars singing, “So what we get drunk, so what we smoke weed/ We’re just having fun, we don’t care who sees” on the track’s hook. Keeping in tune with the single’s theme, Wiz raps about rolling up and sagging his jeans while Snoop rhymes like he’s 17 years old all over again. Khalifa teases that the entire soundtrack will carry a similar mood. “We got the homey Juicy J on the soundtrack, we got Curren$y on the soundtrack, but mainly it’s just me and Dogg,” he said. “It’s a real big deal because nobody’s done it like that as far as a veteran, an O.G. in the game, a pioneer, and then the newest, youngest, most exciting dude in rap coming through and really just giving the people a complete project.” “The music is quality,” Snoop said.
