NYPD swept in early Tuesday morning and arrested 70 protesters. By Gil Kaufman Workers clean up Zuccotti Park in New York City after police removed Occupy Wall Street protesters on Tuesday morning Photo: Spencer Platt/ Getty Images The end of the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York’s Zuccotti Park came swiftly, loudly and under the cover of night. Without warning, the New York Police Department swooped down early Tuesday (November 15) morning on the protester camp in the city park and ordered its residents to clear out or face arrest. The squatters, who had occupied the park since September 17 in a protest against economic inequality in the U.S. that helped spark a national and international movement, were told that the camp was to be “cleared and restored” by morning and that they could return at a later time. According to The New York Times the 200 protesters who remained in Zuccotti (which they’d renamed “Freedom Park”) initially resisted the police action and met officers with chants of “whose park? Our park!” But as police moved in and began tearing down tents and removing the encampment, the occupiers retreated to a central area and tried to barricade themselves behind tables and scraps of wood. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. The effort to clear out the public park in began around 1 a.m. and though dozens of occupiers left over the next few hours, a number refused, locking arms and ignoring police orders to evacuate. Two hours into the action helmeted officers moved in and pulled the remaining squatters out one-by-one and handcuffed them, with more than 70 arrested in the action. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office Tweeted about the removal around 1:19 a.m., saying, “Occupants of Zuccotti should temporarily leave and remove tents and tarps. Protesters can return after the park is cleared.” Bloomberg, who was scheduled to discuss the action on Tuesday morning, later issued a statement explaining the action. “I have become increasingly concerned — as had the park’s owner, Brookfield Properties — that the occupation was coming to pose a health and fire safety hazard to the protestors and to the surrounding community,” Bloomberg said. “We have been in constant contact with Brookfield and yesterday they requested that the City assist it in enforcing the no sleeping and camping rules in the park. But make no mistake — the final decision to act was mine.” Even as Bloomberg ordered the park cleared, he noted that protesters would still be able to gather there, but would be banned from setting up tents and sleeping bags. Residents of the area and workers who travel through the perimeter of the park have been complaining for weeks that the occupation has interrupted their lives due to noise, congestion and the barricading of sidewalks. “Protestors have had two months to occupy the park with tents and sleeping bags,” Bloomberg said. “Now they will have to occupy the space with the power of their arguments.” In addition to international headlines, the protests drew the attention of a number of celebrities who came down to the camp to visit and get a glimpse at the movement. Among the artists who made their way to Zuccotti over the past few months are Talib Kweli and Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Susan Sarandon, Tom Morello, folk icon Pete Seeger, actor Mark Ruffalo, film maker Michael Moore, Joan Baez, Jay-Z , Katy Perry, Russell Brand and Russell Simmons. The move in New York comes as other cities have begun cracking down on Occupy protesters, with police in Oakland , Salt Lake City and Portland, Oregon forcefully taking action against the sit-ins. According to My Fox New York , some occupiers moved to another city park around 10 blocks north of Zuccotti on Tuesday morning, setting up shop in Foley Square. The new location is just blocks from City Hall. Related Videos Inside Occupy Wall Street ‘True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street’ Preview

Producer Hit-Boy is especially excited about the Throne performing the single multiple times during shows. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Jay-Z and Kanye West might give it up for Paris on their Watch the Throne single, but the international party anthem is now #1 in the U.S. Last week, “N—as in Paris” snagged the top spot on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Producer Hit-Boy couldn’t be more ecstatic, especially considering that he initially submitted Jay and ‘Ye other records that at the time seemed to be bigger than “Paris.” “The crazy thing about the ‘Paris’ record is that record just came out of nowhere, pretty much,” Hit-Boy told MTV News last week. “I did other records that were talked about being singles and all types of stuff, so I was hyped over those records.” Instead, the superstar duo chose to run with “N—as in Paris,” a brash celebration of success over a bouncy beat, mashed up with Will Ferrell sound bites . Though it was Hit-Boy who came up with the initial version of the track, he credits ‘Ye with the addition of the former “SNL” funnyman. “Genius. That’s just the genius that ‘Ye is. He always comes up with these ideas that just takes music to a whole ‘nother level,” Hit-Boy gushed. “Just something that’s never been done before.” Ferrell was also pretty excited about being included on the song. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song,” Ferrell told MTV News about the track’s “Blades of Glory” quotes. “And when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” Not only is “Paris” killing the radio, but while on tour, Hov and Yeezy perform the fan favorite multiple times in a single night. During the tour’s opening night on October 28 in Atlanta, the duo rocked the single twice; the next night they performed it three times. When Hit-Boy caught one of the two Madison Square Garden shows in New York at the beginning of November, he was blown away hearing his track repeatedly.”It was amazing,” he said. “I’ve never heard of that being done before, like a song being performed multiple times. That made me feel super special.” What do you think of “Paris”? Let us know in the comments! ‘We promised the band’s not over,’ Joe Jonas tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Kara Warner Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News All three Jonas Brothers have spent some time apart, working on their individual projects: Nick Jonas has been producing other artists and will appear in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” on Broadway, while Joe Jonas has been busy pimping his solo album, Fastlife , all over the globe. The guys admit it’s time to get the old band back together. “We had been focusing this past year and a half on our individual projects and what we’re doing on our own, and I think that with ‘How to Succeed’ and with Joe still promoting his album and doing all that, that’s still a bit part of the future,” Nick told MTV News when he stopped by our New York office last week. “However, we have started thinking about the next step and what that means for the brothers, and the tone overall is just that we want it to be the right time, and we want to take our time.” In fact, there’s even a timeframe for when the guys intend to really start thinking more about their next album. “I’m gonna be going to New York probably when Nick’s going to be doing some Broadway stuff, so maybe some more Jonas Brothers stuff soon,” Joe added on the set of “Hot in Cleveland” a day later. “Kevin, he lives in New York, so we’ll all be there together. We’ll see what happens. Nick’s gonna be working on his project, and we’re always writing together, and we promised the band’s not over. So, I’m definitely looking forward to be able to get back with them.” And, JoBros fans, there even seems to some chatter that in addition to new music, there might also be some new tour plans. “We’re excited to make music for our fans again and to be able to tour one day together again,” Nick explained. “I don’t know necessarily when that will be, but it will happen, and when it does, we’re gonna be really excited, and hopefully our fans and others will be excited as well.” Are you awaiting the next Jonas Brothers album and tour? Hov named King of the Year in mag’s upcoming ‘Men of the Year’ issue. By Rob Markman Jay-Z in the December issue of GQ Photo: Nathaniel Goldberg/GQ Jay-Z seems to excel at everything he tries. As a rapper, Jigga’s track record is impeccable and his accomplishments as a businessman have kept Hov hovering around the top of various Forbes lists for almost 10 years now. But how will Jay, who seems to do so many things so well fare at fatherhood? It’s a topic the mogul tackles in a cover story in GQ magazine’s “Men of the Year” issue. “Providing — that’s not love,” Jay says. ” Being there — that’s more important. I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They’re crying out for attention; they’re hurting for love. I’m not being judgmental — I’m just making an observation,” Jay, who was anointed the mag’s King of the Year, tells writer Alex Pappademas. “They’re crying out for the love that maybe they didn’t get at home, and they got everything, all the material things that they need and want. So we know that’s not the key.” The soon to be 42-year-old rapper graces the cover of the December issue, which hit newsstands on November 22, wearing a black suit, a matching skinny tie and sporting a grin. It’s a familiar look for Jigga, but the feature story reveals someone new: Big Poppa Jay. The Roc Nation boss’ complex relationship with his absentee dad factors into his own views on becoming a papi, and it’s a topic he tackled on his 2000 The Dynasty album (“Where Have You Been”), his ’03 “retirement” LP The Black Album (“December 4” and “Moment of Clarity”) and, most recently, on “New Day,” a standout track off of his and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne. On “New Day,” the duo rap hypothetically about fatherhood, except that now for Jay, life will imitate art. When the Throne wrote the song, Jay explains to GQ that he and wife Beyonc
‘You don’t always get times that you have to articulate this stuff, so it’s actually good to think about,’ typically media-shy actress tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News It’s no secret that fan fervor surrounding the “Twilight” franchise is intense. What that means for the stars is, of course, a lot of interviews, tours and appearances in various cities and countries leading up to the blockbuster films. When we caught up with Kristen Stewart as she promoted the latest “Twilight Saga” entry, “Breaking Dawn- Part 1,” we asked if she’s looking forward to the day when her “Twilight” duties come to an end. “Sure, but at the same time, these things are so rare and sporadically intense that part of it is easy to [do],” she said. “I have to force myself to enjoy it — not force myself because it’s hard, but acknowledge that I am enjoying [the moment] rather than going, ‘God, this is so crazy.’ ” Stewart said that despite what people may think, she genuinely enjoys doing interviews. “I like talking about these movies. When you’re actually talking about the movies, I have a really good time with it,” she admitted. “You don’t always get times that you have to articulate this stuff, so it’s actually good to think about.” Stewart’s co-star Robert Pattinson has said that all the attention he receives now serves the very important purpose of keeping him honest about himself — to a point. “You have to confront your insecurities quite a lot, and I have plenty, plenty of insecurities,” he said about being an actor and having to question his chosen profession. “Even more [now]. Before, you could kind of bullsh– yourself all the time. If no one cares about you, you can be like, ‘I’m the greatest person in the whole world.’ You can be completely delusional.” On Monday, join MTV.com live from the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” red-carpet premiere as we talk to your favorite stars about all things “Twilight”! Perry and Diego Luna play star-crossed lovers in the moody clip. By Jocelyn Vena Diego Luna and Katy Perry in “The One That Got Away” music video Photo: Capitol Records Katy Perry ‘s moody, contemplative clip for “The One That Got Away” perfectly encapsulates both the joy of falling in love and the heartbreak of letting go. It travels through time and space and recalls the story of Perry’s one that got away. Directed by Floria Sigismondi (who also directed Perry’s trippy “E.T.” clip ), the video opens with Katy, decked out in old-lady makeup, returning home from a trip as her husband (who viewers quickly realize isn’t the guy Perry thought she’d end up with) asks how it went. She then walks up the stairs of her contemporary mansion to reflect on the past. As she settles into her place at home, little things begin to remind her of him: notably a heart tattoo on her arm. From there, viewers are taken back in time, as Perry recalls her fiery, sexy love affair with her artist beau, played by Mexican movie star Diego Luna . In this past life, Perry and Luna, both painters, would create their art side by side, acting as each other’s muse. In between painting pictures, the two share moments and enjoy life: making out, giggling, tattooing one another, crashing parties and falling asleep in one another’s arms. For much of the video, things seem perfect between the pair. However, all good things must come to an end. Eventually, their art splits them up: As he grows more creative and she becomes frustrated with it, they no longer can connect emotionally. From there, the fighting begins, culminating in the ultimate argument. As he drives away from their scuffle, still fired up, he looks down at a memento of hers, takes his eyes off the road for a quick second, and tragically and unexpectedly crashes off a cliff, leaving no chance for reconciliation. The video closes with Katy driving Luna’s old car. She eventually goes to the scene of the tragedy as Johnny Cash’s “You Are My Sunshine” plays. As an old Katy looks over that cliff, the sun radiating over her, she’s visited by the ghost of her one true love and, for a moment, feels the love they once shared. The video premiered online and on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Friday, when Perry not only announced plans to hold a free show at L.A.’s Staples Center on November 23 called “Katy Perry Gives Thanks,” but also talked a bit about her plans to start a family with hubby Russell Brand . By Alvin Blanco Heavy D in 1991 Photo: Ron Galella / Getty Images Plans for Heavy D’s funeral services are being made, and his sendoff will be small and intimate with close friends and family only. The beloved rapper, born Dwight Errington Myers, will be laid to rest next Friday, November 18, in the New York area. TMZ reports that Heav’s family will be holding a public viewing the Thursday before the funeral for fans to catch a last glimpse of the “Now That We Found Love” rapper. Heavy’s burial services Friday will be invite-only. The surviving Boyz of Heavy D & the Boyz — DJ Eddie F and dancer G-Wiz — will be in attendance. While calling into MTV News’ “RapFix Live,” Eddie explained the universal appeal of his late friend. “The thing that he did that may be apparent, but maybe a lot of people didn’t pay attention to it, he was the type of rapper like the hardest, hardest, hard rock was a fan of his, and he would move on the street,” Eddie F told MTV News. “But then he was also respectful, and your mother, your grandmother could listen to Heavy D.” Also sure to attend the funeral will be Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mary J. Blige, who both worked with the Overweight Lover while he was at Uptown Records. The Wayans brothers are on the list of select attendees, according to TMZ; Heav famously penned and performed the theme music to the Wayans’ “In Living Color” sketch-comedy show. ‘I kind of just wanted to scale back, instead of having a look,’ singer tells Ryan Seacrest of theme for November 21’s Talk That Talk. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Troy Rizzo/ Getty Images On Friday (November 11), Rihanna officially dropped the second single off her November 21 album, Talk That Talk, and “You da One” is as party-ready as the first single, “We Found Love.” Produced by super producer Dr. Luke, “You da One” is a fist-pumping ode to the power of love, and that’s what attracted Rihanna to it. “This is one of those records, it becomes very addictive,” she told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show on Friday morning. “To me, it’s very infectious: the more you listen to it, the more you want to listen to it. It had a reggae vibe, but it’s a sweet little love letter. I love the record. It’s kind of dirty, I love it.” Rihanna also explained the theme for her highly anticipated album release, mirroring comments her “We Found Love” director Melina Matsoukas recently shared with MTV News about “how being really natural is forward-thinking” “I kind of just wanted to scale back, instead of having a look,” the singer said of Talk That Talk. “I didn’t want to make it such a big deal, like what hair color. I wanted to go back to something simple, something flexible; something a little more natural. It’s more about the music. I don’t want to become a gimmick ever,” she added, before joking, “Well, I ran out of colors so I decided to go back to my natural color!” Early reaction to the sexy party album has been overwhelmingly positive, and the singer appreciates all of the love. “I’m so excited it’s done. I feel so great,” she said. “The snippets came out yesterday and people are really reacting. I know the songs that I love, and to see people react to them the same way that I do … I got excited like I never heard it.” Share your thoughts so far on Talk That Talk in the comments or on our Facebook page!
