Evanescence Press Forward, Look Back In ‘What You Want’ Video

Gritty performance footage mix with dramatic New York scenes that illustrate the band’s history and future. By James Montgomery Evanescence Photo: Wind-up Records In late July, Evanescence — and fans — crammed into a sweltering Brooklyn warehouse to hammer out the video for “What You Want,” the first single off their much-anticipated new album (and, for anyone keeping score at home, their first video in almost four years). In between takes, frontwoman Amy Lee told MTV News that the clip, directed by longtime pro Meiert Avis (U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name”), was meant to show “the history of the band.” They wanted it to evoke the times when Evanescence used to play in Little Rock’s “gritty, dirty club” Vino’s as well as the band’s more recent hiatus, which saw Lee and bassist Tim McCord relocate to New York City. On Tuesday (September 13), we finally got to see the final product, as “What You Want” premiered on the band’s official site . And boy, was Amy spot-on in her analysis. “Want” is most definitely a historical thing, capturing Evanescence’s early days, slogging it out in sweaty clubs. It also recalls the halcyon days of big-ticket rock videos, full of sweeping shots of the New York skyline, a dramatic scene in which Lee appears to leap off the Brooklyn Bridge and some claustrophobic, cathartic performance footage. It even has a striking ending, in which Lee and her bandmates disappear into the surf down at Coney Island, as the sun breaks over the horizon. Lee has said many times that “What You Want” is a definite departure for Evanescence , and that holds true in the case of both the song and the video. The tune definitely snarls more than most in their back catalog, and the video feels very much like a true band clip; it’s artfully autobiographical and, perhaps most notably, features all of Evanescence. So, “Want” is notable for several reasons, least among them the fact that it officially brings to end their hiatus from the world of music videos. It’s also important to realize that, for perhaps the first time in their rather tumultuous history, they’re unified and pressing on toward the future. By looking back. ‘Point Break,’ ‘Sparkle’ Get The Remake Treatment

Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks attached to update of 1976’s ‘Sparkle.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jordin Sparks Photo: Getty Images We can add two more films to the “classics” getting the reboot treatment in Hollywood: New versions of 1991’s “Point Break” and 1976’s “Sparkle” are reportedly in the works. TheWrap.com reports that Alcon Entertainment is currently working on a reimagining of surfer-heist flick “Point Break,” which starred Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah who goes under cover and hangs 10 with a group of surfing criminals, led by Patrick Swayze. The new film will also include an extreme sport, but no word on whether it will still be surfing. Producer Michael DeLuca explained that the Kathryn Bigelow-directed original was “a Zen meditation on testosterone fueled action and manhood in the late 20th century” that they want to re-create for the 21st century. In that other remake news, according to Variety, Sony Pictures is readying a remake of “Sparkle,” with Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston (who will also executive produce) rumored to star. Mike Epps has also been attached to the project, with production slated to begin next month. The original film’s plot, inspired by the story of the Supremes, revolved around three Harlem sisters who become a successful 1950s girl group and experience the pitfalls of fame. The new movie will tell the story of an aspiring singer (Sparks) in 1968 Detroit. This will be Houston’s first big screen film since 1996’s “The Preacher’s Wife.” This is Sparks’ feature film debut. Joe Jonas Steams Up Paris In ‘Just In Love’ Video

‘No, I’m not naked and she’s not naked,’ Jonas says of the bathtub scene in the clip. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: John Sciulli/ Getty Images Joe Jonas told MTV News that his music video for “Just in Love” would leave his fans “shocked,” and he wasn’t wrong. The video shows a grown-up side of the former teen star, who’s now 22. The retro-tinged, very sexy clip is set in Paris, with Joe cavorting around town with French model Angele. The two run around in their designer duds, making out in cafes, catching the metro, driving around in cars, hanging out in a bathtub and kissing in bed (a lot). “No, I’m not naked and she’s not naked,” he later told E! Online about the bathtub scene when the network premiered the video on Tuesday evening. “But I think it’s a little bit, well, I’ll just say it’s a little bit older than anything I’ve done before.” The video, directed by Jaci Judelson, is composed of shots of the pair as they make out all around one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, weaving together the tale of their brief but passionate love affair. However, all good things must come to an end and Joe leaves his French lady love behind. The video closes out with Joe looking back as he walks away in the dark of the night. “Just in Love” officially dropped last week and is the second single from Jonas’ forthcoming album, Fast Life , due October 11. Big Sean To Embark On His First Solo Tour

‘I’m gonna put on a hell of a show,’ rapper tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Big Sean Photo: Imeh Akpanudosen/ Getty Images Big Sean is ready to take his show on the road. Beginning October 2, the G.O.O.D. Music MC will begin his I Am Finally Famous Tour, a 30-city run that concludes November 25 in Los Angeles. “I’m embarking on my first solo tour this fall, and I passed up a lot of good opportunities, but I’m still gonna be a part of those opportunities one way or another,” Sean told MTV News. “I really thought it was important to do my own solo tour.” The Detroit rapper most recently was out on the road with Wiz Khalifa as part of his Rolling Papers tour, and in the past he talked about the possibility of joining Jay-Z and Kanye West on their Watch the Throne run. Sean didn’t confirm or deny that he’ll hit the road with Hov and ‘Ye, but judging from the already announced WTT dates, Sean’s involvement in it looks unlikely. For this run, Sean tells MTV News that he’ll be hitting smaller venues so he can build a closer relationship with his fans. “I think that’s really important for my first time out. Building my tour base I really wanted to have something intimate, something people will remember forever,” he said. “I’m gonna put on a hell of a show. I’ve been getting my cardio up, working out, taking this sh– serious.” Dates for Big Sean’s I Am Finally Famous Tour:

Future Says Streetz Calling Will Be His Last Mixtape

Up-and-coming rapper says debut album is on the way, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Steven Roberts Future Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily Main Pick Artist : Future Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : Streetz Calling Real Spit : There’s no question that when it comes to rap, Future is among the hottest up-and-comers. So fans of the Atlanta rapper’s mixtapes may be sad to learn that his recently released Streetz Calling will be his last solo tape. Not to worry, though, an album is on the way. “My mixtape, which will probably be my last solo mixtape, is 9/11: Streetz Calling, ” said Future, who recently announced his deal with L.A. Reid on Epic Label Group. ” 9/11: Streetz Calling with DJ Drama is supposed to be my last mixtape before I put my album out. My album is gonna be [titled] Pluto. ” Though he originally planned to release his mixtape on 9/11, Future had to instead drop Streetz Calling on Friday after the tape began to leak early. Tracks like “Made Myself a Boss,” the codeine-inspired “Easter Pink” and the chest-pounding “Name Hold Weight” exemplify Future’s penchant for spitting catchy hooks and relatable rhymes. The 2011 MTV Jams’ Fab Five inductee has earned many fans; even some of the game’s top rappers recognize his pedigree. “I wasn’t even ready for Drake to get on it, but when he called I was like, man, I was acceptin’ it with open arms,” Future said about Drizzy’s contribution to his “Tony Montana (Remix).” “He was just so far from where I’m at now, he’s so far [from] me, so for him to reach back down like, ‘Hey I want to get on your song,’ it was big on him. It just showed that he’s not out of the loop and I was in the loop.” Though Drake doesn’t actually appear on Streetz Calling, Future did manage to round up Gucci Mane and his A1/Free Bandz partner Rocko on a tape otherwise navigated by Future himself. Check back on Monday, September 19, to see Mixtape Daily ‘s full Streetz Calling segment with Future. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Wiz Khalifa And Amber Rose Not Married

Speculation spreads after photo of couple dressed in wedding-style clothes hits the Net, but source tells MTV News pair didn’t tie the knot. By Rob Markman Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose (file) Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ FilmMagic They say a picture is worth a thousand words but in the case of Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose ‘s wedding-style photo, only one word is needed: no! After the photo hit the Net, a source close to the couple told MTV News on Monday (September 12) that the couple did not get married during their Las Vegas trip late last week. Instead, the Rolling Papers rapper simply wanted to celebrate his birthday last Thursday by dressing up — he in a black tux, her in a white dress. A representative from the Clark County Recorder’s Office in Las Vegas, Nevada also confirmed that there is no record of a marriage between the two. The pair have recently discussed getting hitched, however. While on the black carpet at MTV’s 2011 Video Music Awards , Wiz and Rose spoke to MTV News about their plans to eventually tie the knot. “Oh yeah, absolutely, man; it’s gonna happen,” Wiz said. “Like we said, we’re just gonna do what’s natural and not let any pressure [get to us], because even [with] the word of it happening, people are like, ‘You guys need to get married now,’ ” Khalifa explained. “It’s gonna happen; my baby knows I love her. I’m committed and she’s committed, so we’re just gonna make it happen.” “We discuss it all the time. Like he said, we’re very much in love,” Rose told us . “But, ya know, we’re just going to take our time and just enjoy each other right now. We’re both really busy and we work really hard and when the time comes, it’s gonna come.” After going public with their romance earlier this year, the Pittsburgh spitter appeared on our “RapFix Live” show and was joined by Amber in one of the live stream’s more memorable moments. The lovebirds have become the topic of much blog speculation mostly due to the model’s previous courtship with Kayne West, but despite the publicity, Rose and Wiz have been pretty upfront about their feelings for each other. “He’s really funny, he’s really charming,” she said to “RFL” host Sway. “I didn’t know much about his music at first and, obviously, he became a good friend. I started listening to his music. He’s awesome, he’s talented. He’s amazing.” “I’m just me. That’s what it is,” Wiz added during the March episode. “I’m completely comfortable about everything in my life. That’s what my career has been built off. Everybody gets that right away, so you don’t have to find anything about me. I’m not gonna hide it; I’m gonna embrace it and give people in the same situation something to look up to.” Do you think Wiz and Amber will eventually make it down the aisle? Amy Winehouse And Tony Bennett Video Debuts Wednesday

‘Body and Soul’ clip drops at 6 a.m. on MTV, VH1, MTV Hits and mtvU. By Gil Kaufman Amy Winehouse Photo: Epsilon/ Getty Images Fans of late British soul star Amy Winehouse will get a look at the final song and video the “Rehab” singer filmed before her death Wednesday when Tony Bennett releases the clip for the pair’s duet on the jazz standard “Body and Soul.” The clip will premiere at 6 a.m. on MTV, VH1, MTV Hits and mtvU and then repeat on an hourly basis throughout the morning, after which it will be available online on MTV.com. The track and video will drop on what would have been Winehouse’s 28th birthday, and it will show the unique collaboration between the legendary crooner and the beehive-sporting retro soul singer who died July 23 of undetermined causes in her London apartment. The song and video were recorded on March 23 at Abbey Road Studios in London and the proceeds from its sale will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation . “We had a beautiful time recording together in the studio, and I knew that Amy was very happy with how she performed that day,” Bennett said in a statement. “I thought she was absolutely brilliant, and this recording truly captures the essence of her unique artistry. She was a rare talent.” The video footage of the two singing together is bittersweet, with Winehouse looking healthy and alert, twirling her hair coquettishly as she matched him note-for-note on the standard. Wearing one of the plaid sweaters from her Fred Perry fashion collection, her hair in a signature bouffant, a smiling Winehouse held her own with Bennett, trading lines and sharing a warm hug at the end. The recording session was filmed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha”) as part of an upcoming documentary on Bennett. The song will appear on the 85-year-old icon’s Duets II, which also features him singing with Lady Gaga, Michael Bubl

Paul Wall, Baby Bash Arrested For Drug Possession

‘Fresh out the El Paso County jail wit @Babybash @Biggroy, in the same tank they held Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash,’ Wall tweeted following his release. By Gil Kaufman Paul Wall Photo: FilmMagic Rappers Paul Wall (born Paul Michael Slayton) and Baby Bash (Ronald Ray Bryant) were arrested in El Paso, Texas, early Sunday morning on suspicion of possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. The pair, who were in town to perform at the Summer Jamm 2011 show on Saturday, were released on Sunday afternoon after each posted a $300 bond, according to the El Paso Times . Wall announced the arrest on his Twitter account, writing, “fresh out the El Paso County jail wit @Babybash @Biggroy, in the same tank they held Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash,” accompanied by a photo of him in the back of a police car with Bash, who is in handcuffs. The arrest occurred in what was described in press accounts as a “drug-free” zone, a detail that was explained in a subsequent Facebook post from Bash. While Wall, 30, seemed to have a good sense of humor about the incident, Bash, 41, was a bit more heated in his Twitter response. “Ain’t 2much worse than a ” HOE ASS PUNK EL PASO COP that abuses his authority, just cuz me and Paul Wall are artists! Only GEEKS and fools who don’t have any spine abuses Authority! But I’m back in the FLESH feelin’ so FRESH, out the tank mang!” He quickly clarified , though, that he was not lashing out at cops over the arrest. “I’m not here to diss ALL police, they have a tuff gig and I respect that! BUT u have the ONE or TWO that will disrespect & abuse the power cuz maybe they got picked on in high school a lot and now have a chip on their shoulder, and that’s exactly wut happened to us, all we did was SMELL like weed and wen he couldn’t find it and we didn’t snitch on who sparked it, he got overdramatic and took us in! He found out who we were and really got big shot on us! Haha even his partner said he’s a di–.” Bash continued , claiming that bail was low because the judge “knew it was a bogus call.” He said the pals admitted in court that they had smoked earlier, which is why they “smelled like tree,” but that they didn’t have any marijuana on them at the time of the arrest. “That made him [the officer] mad cuz he thought RAPPER must have large amount!” A spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department was not available for comment at press time. Shia LaBeouf Feels ‘Vindication’ After ‘Transformers 3’ Success

‘I feel vindicated for having guilt on my shoulders for the second movie,’ he tells MTV News of blockbuster ‘Dark of the Moon.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shia LaBeouf at the New York premiere of “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon” on June 28, 2011 Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage In the run up to the release of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” Shia LaBeouf was adamant about two things: the second chapter of his alien robot franchise honestly wasn’t very good at all and the newest sequel would blow everyone away. “It is the best movie we’ve made, I’m serious,” LaBeouf told MTV News in June. “It’s not a joke. I’m dead honest, man. I get myself in trouble all the time, but this is our best installment.” He’s probably right. “Dark of the Moon” is the top-grossing film in the series ($1.1 billion) and received an “A” CinemaScore from audiences, according to Paramount. Having announced that the third “Transformers” film will be his last, LaBeouf recently told us that he’s leaving the franchise on a high note. “For me, I feel vindicated for having guilt on my shoulders for the second movie,” he said. “There is vindication in this one being successful and people enjoying it.” Since finishing up the international press tour for “Dark of the Moon,” LaBeouf has been collaborating on a music video with Marilyn Manson and doing postproduction work on John Hillcoat’s “The Wettest County in the World,” a drama about Prohibition-era bootleggers. “That’s probably the biggest, coolest opportunity I’ve been allotted so far,” LaBeouf said of Hillcoat’s follow-up to “The Road.” “It’s the most colorful character I’ve been able to play, the most depth I’ve been able to show as an actor.” At the same time, the actor has been prepping for work on “The Company You Keep,” a political thriller that Robert Redford will direct and star in. “I’ve been in Redford’s office doing read-throughs,” LaBeouf said. “He’s very efficient with his time. He’s a master at juggling his time and his attention span. When his attention span is focused in your direction, he’s laser-beam focused. He knows exactly what he wants. He’s very specific. He’s hilarious and fun and vibrant and everything you’d want in a director. I’m very excited to see a man direct himself. I’ve never seen that happen on a set. I know how intense and tough that’s going to be. I’m showing up more as an audience member.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
