Moguai Talks Revved-Up ‘In N’ Out’ Collabo With Tommy Trash

German DJ tells MTV News of creating big new sound on song’s re-edit to play for summer festival crowds. By Nick Philippou Moguai Photo: Thomas Niedermueller/ Getty Images EDM fans worldwide know Moguai as one of the most diverse and prolific music-makers on deadmau5’s Mau5trap label, an epicenter of EDM creativity. MTV News caught up with the German DJ recently, and he gave us all the details on his latest album, MPire, and on his synth-centric collaboration with Tommy Trash called “In N’ Out,” including their revved up re-edit that’s available on iTunes and is hovering high up on the Beatport charts. “We did [the track] three and a half years ago in Germany. I know him only from touring of Australia, and in Germany or Europe nobody knew him at that time,” Moguai told MTV News. “We did it, but it never came out. So I put it on the album, and right now it fits perfectly in the time.” Moguai said that “In N’ Out” landing on his album is the kind of happy coincidence that always happens when DJs tour together. He added that including the track on his album was even more exciting after Trash had a huge year in 2011, with tracks like “The End” and “Cascade” becoming staples in DJ sets around the world. “In N’ Out” works well with MPire ‘s melting pot of sound, which ranges from the quintessential progressive sound in “Lyme” to electro-house euphoria on the album’s title track. Moguai told MTV News that they wanted to have a really big new sound on their edit of “In N’ Out” for the huge festival crowds over the summer. Moguai’s adding more U.S. tour dates this summer. He’ll be making his first summer tour stop on June 8 at Level in Kelowna, British Columbia. Then he’s off to Chicago on June 9 to play Vision before hitting a plethora of festivals and nightclubs. “I think EDM has found a new home here in America, but it’s like the beginning, like hip-hop and R&B,” he said. “It’s a cultural thing right now. It won’t disappear anymore.” Moguai has seen EDM grow into the mainstream in his native Germany, and he sees many parallels between the explosion of EDM in America and what Europe experienced nearly two decades ago. “We had it in Germany,” Moguai told MTV News. “We’re still having it, but it feels like back in the days, back in the early ’90s, you know, when we started with Love Parade and with the Mayday. It began with 500 people around Berlin, around Brandenburg, and from there the next year it was 5000, then 50,000, then 500,000, then 1.5 million, then 2 million, you know, and it grew up. [It] feels quite the same [energy] here.” Related Artists Moguai

Ying Yang Twins’ D-Roc Arrested For DUI, Child Endangerment

Rapper was arrested in Georgia after a traffic stop; his two children were asleep in the backseat. By Rob Markman Deongelo “D-Roc” Holmes in police custody Photo: Gwinnett, Georgia Police Department There was a time when the Ying Yang Twins were at the top of the rap game, but last week group member D-Roc hit a low point when he was arrested and hit with DUI, drug possession and child endangerment charges. On June 1, D-Roc (born Deongelo Holmes) was arrested in Georgia after Gwinnett County police stopped the rapper for failing to drive in a single lane. According to a police report obtained by MTV News after the stop, D-Roc admitted to having “a few beers at a friend’s house” and smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. He was driving with his children (a 3-year old and a 2-month-old), who were asleep in the back seat of his 2002 GMC Yukon Denali. The arresting officer found two alprazolam pills on D-Roc’s person, and upon searching the vehicle, the officer also found two grams of marijuana in a grinder. During their height, the Ying Yang Twins experienced success with high-charting Billboard singles like 2000’s “Whistle While You Twurk” and 2005’s “Wait (The Whisper Song).” In 2003, they dropped their hit “Salt Shaker” and also guested on Lil Jon’s #1 Rap single “Get Low.” The duo earned two platinum albums with 2003’s Me & My Brother and then again two years later with U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta) . The Twins dropped Ying Yang Forever in 2009, but the double disc CD failed to match their previous success. Last month, the group took it upon themselves to remix Justin Bieber’s hit single “Boyfriend.” Related Photos Celebrity Mug Shots Related Artists Ying Yang Twins

Cyrus and Hemsworth join a long list of celebrity couples who first met on set. By Kara Warner Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images Just about nothing makes more headlines in the world of entertainment than celebrity engagements. Unsurprisingly, the news of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s plans to wed has caused a media storm. Since their romance got its start on the set of their movie “The Last Song” , we got to thinking about all the other couples who met and later married after meeting at work Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan The “Magic Mike” star and his lovely actress/dancer wife Jenna Dewan met in 2006 during the filming of “Step Up.” They officially started dating after production wrapped, were engaged in 2008 and married on July 11, 2009, in Malibu. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie The couple that launched the blended celebrity name game was born out of their filming 2005’s action adventure “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Though rumors swirled of an onset romance, Brangelina insisted that they didn’t start dating until after Pitt was officially separated from then-wife Jennifer Aniston. Pitt was not Jolie’s first set-generated romance, she had married onetime co-stars Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner met in 2004 on the set of “Daredevil,” shortly after Garner ended a relationship with another co-star, Michael Vartan, whom she met on “Alias.” Affleck and Garner became engaged nine months later and married on June 29, 2005. Similar to Jolie’s serial on-set dating, Jennifer Garner had previously dated and married her “Felicity” co-star Scott Foley. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. Although Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. met and became friends on the set of 1997’s teen horror flick “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” they didn’t start dating until 2000.The couple became engaged in 2001 and were married in Mexico on September 1, 2002 in a ceremony officiated by “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman, with whom Gellar had worked on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Jay-Z and Beyonc

Exclusive: The-Dream Didn’t Send Gwyneth Paltrow’s Paris Tweet

‘I was moreso trying to take the heat for a friend,’ The-Dream tells MTV News. By Rob Markman The-Dream Photo: MTV News Turns out it wasn’t The-Dream who sent the now-infamous “N—as in Paris” tweet from Gwyneth Paltrow ‘s phone, but the Love King still insists that his buddy did nothing wrong. “Well, we were there, of course. We were Patron’d out of our minds, number one. Number two, I was moreso trying to take the heat for a friend because I knew that the reaction was going to be silly,” The-Dream admitted to MTV News on the carpet for Vitamin Water’s Fader concert series in Hollywood on Thursday night. “I know what she meant; I know what she didn’t mean.” Last weekend, while onstage at the Throne’s much-ballyhooed Paris concert , Paltrow tweeted a pic of herself with a few friends and captioned it: “Ni**as in Paris for real @mrteriousnash (the dream) tyty, beehigh.” The tweet caused much controversy, sparking a debate over who should and shouldn’t be allowed to use the N-word. The-Dream says he knows that the actress didn’t mean for the tweet to be derogatory and also suggests that the issue isn’t so black-and-white. “We created a song and titled it like that. It’s one of the biggest songs out, especially [since] Jay and Kanye are two of the biggest rap figures,” he began to explain. “It’s like a catch-22, it’s like a trick, like ‘Yeah we’re gonna say it and we’re gonna sell it to you, but you can’t really use it and you can’t say it.” After Paltrow came under fire, the “Shawty Is a 10” singer came to her rescue and took the blame, claiming that he was the one who sent the message from Gwyn’s phone. Now he admits it was all just a cover-up. “I knew it was going to be silly from the beginning, so I just tried to jump to her defense,” he said to MTV News. “Unfortunately, people were bothered and I understand it to a degree, but you have to still understand that we give the word its own power.” The magnitude of Hov and Yeezy’s historic concert isn’t lost on The-Dream. He hopes that by performing “N—as in Paris” multiple times in Paris, the Throne can eventually change the complexion of the city. “If you know the culture there, then you know it’s not really bound to blacks in that type of a way. It’s soft and gloomy, but it’s not us,” he says of Paris. “So I understand the title of the song, I know what the movement is, and I extremely was touched after they performed in Paris 11 times because I know that’s going to affect the culture 10 years from now.” Was The-Dream justified in defending Gwyneth Paltrow? Bonnaroo Gets Party Started With Alabama Shakes, Kendrick Lamar

Variety is the rule at Tennessee festival’s Thursday kickoff. By Mary J. DiMeglio Kendrick Lamar performs at Bonnaroo 2012 Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images MANCHESTER, Tennessee — The 11th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival kicked off Thursday with a characteristically diverse mix of artists representing funk, blues, hip-hop, reggae, electronic, indie rock and even mariachi. The rootsy Alabama Shakes , who broke earlier this year, nabbed a closing spot on opening night, grooving through “Hang Loose” and their first single, “Hold On.” Frontwoman Brittany Howard had the crowd feeling her pain as she wailed “Rise to the Sun.” For photos from Bonnaroo, click here. Kendrick Lamar brought his West Coast gangsta rap to the dirty South. And while he clearly had many fans in the crowd — spitting along to “P & P” and “A.D.H.D.” — he took time to address a vocal hater in the front row. “He’s telling us that I’m not the best rapper alive today,” Lamar announced. “Can I prove it to him?” He responded with the frantic “Look Out for Detox.” Earlier in the night, the stage was handled by rappers Danny Brown and Shady Records signee Yelawolf. Soja’s devotees were treated to “Here I Am,” “Everything Changes” and a bit of advice from singer Jacob Hemphill, who urged his audience of reggae lovers to check out Bad Brains, hardcore punk pioneers who also delved into reggae. Bad Brains is scheduled for their first Bonnaroo appearance on Saturday afternoon. Just after sunset, Moon Taxi lit up That Tent with jazzy keyboard and bass solos. Also Thursday, Big Gigantic managed to seamlessly blend Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar,” electro and high-speed drum and bass — all while featuring live saxophone. Mimosa gave a shout-out to fellow Bonnaroo performer Ludacris, mixing the rapper’s “What’s Your Fantasy” into a set that also included DJ Darude’s decade-old trance classic “Sandstorm.” Over four days, nights and early mornings, Bonnaroo will bring fans more than 150 bands and nearly two dozen comedians. Friday (June 8) features Radiohead, Foster the People, Feist, and Mos Def and Talib Kweli as Black Star. The 2012 lineup also includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beach Boys, Phish, Skrillex, Alice Cooper, Fun. and Bon Iver. Are you at Bonnaroo? Share your review in the comments below! Miley Cyrus Planning ‘Sexy’ Album Before Marrying Liam Hemsworth

Sources say Miley is working on music that is ‘very adult and sexy and believable.’ By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Getty Images Miley Cyrus is hard at work on her fourth studio album. And while she attempted to branch out into a more adult sound on 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed, sources say this next studio release will be “very adult and sexy” and, more importantly, “believable.” Sources tell E! News that the former Disney princess, who just announced her engagement to Liam Hemsworth , is “having fun making music for the first time in her career.” She’s reportedly sexing things up with producers Pharrell Williams and Hit-Boy, recording music in Miami and Los Angeles. The insider continues, “We are watching a young girl turn into a young woman.” Cyrus is also taking other steps towards a more mature sound. She’s working with music manager Bruce Flohr of Red Light Management and is no longer with the manager she had when she was closely associated with Disney. The source adds that people in her camp are referring to the musical move as “Miley 2.0.” The fact that Miley is focused on her career might make her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, happy. Sources tell Radar Online that he’s hoping his 19-year-old daughter won’t rush to the altar. The source adds that neither Billy Ray nor Miley’s mother, Tish, was surprised by the engagement. In fact, Hemsworth asked for their permission before he popped the question. “They knew it was coming,” the Radar source said. “Liam lived with Miley and her parents when they began dating in 2009. Billy Ray and Tish love him like a son. However, Billy Ray is concerned about how young they are and he hopes that they aren’t in a rush to get married. Billy Ray hopes the engagement will be very long, but he isn’t opposed to the marriage at all. Billy Ray got divorced from his first wife Cindy, though, and he just doesn’t want Miley to go through a similar heartbreak.” The same day the news broke, Billy Ray tweeted his congratulations to his little girl, writing, “All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness … peace of mind … and someday know … true love.” Hemsworth asked Cyrus to marry him on May 31, after three years of dating. They met on the set of “The Last Song.” So what kind of ring did he get her? Well, she’s rocking a 3.5-carat diamond in a Neil Lane-designed setting that Hemsworth helped create. Bob Welch, Ex-Fleetwood Mac Guitarist, Commits Suicide

Late musician also found success as a solo artist after leaving the band in 1974. By Kara Warner Fleetwood Mac’s Bob Welch Photo: Fin Costello/Redferns Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac, was found dead in his home in Nashville on Thursday (June 7) from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the Nashville police, Welch shot himself in the chest, and his body was discovered by his wife around noon. The police told WKRN-TV , Nashville’s local ABC station, that Welch had been suffering from health issues recently and that he left a suicide note. The Los Angeles-born guitarist joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971, when the band was beginning to evolve from its initial setup as a hard-edged British blues combo into a polished pop/rock act. Welch played guitar and contributed vocals on five Fleetwood Mac albums, Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, Mystery to Me and Heroes Are Hard to Find, the band’s first to crack the U.S. top 40. He was also responsible for penning two of the band’s early hits, “Sentimental Lady” and “Hypnotized.” Welch left the band after Heroes, an opening that paved the way for Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to join, which re-energized the group and launched the band toward their long-desired commercial success and future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1998. After leaving the band in 1974, Welch later formed the British rock group Paris in 1976 and found success as a solo artist. His 1977 album, French Kiss, reached platinum status and spawned three hit singles: “Ebony Eyes,” “Hot Love, Cold World” and a re-recording of “Sentimental Lady,” on which Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham provided backing vocals. Welch was 66. Share your condolences for Welch’s family and friends in the comments. Related Artists Fleetwood Mac

N.O.R.E. Breaks Down Partnership With Busta Rhymes For S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G.

‘He’s been the person … who would call me and say, ‘Yo I don’t hear no records on the streets, son,’ ‘ N.O.R.E. tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway N.O.R.E. on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News N.O.R.E. is ready for the next chapter in his career. As half of the Queens, New York, rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga, N.O.R.E. dropped an underground rap classic with pair’s 1997 debut The War Report. As a solo artist on a major label, he’s made his mark with unforgettable street singles like “Superthug” and “Grimey.” Now N.O.R.E. is looking forward to going independent and releasing his S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G. album and movie. For the album, N.O.R.E. hooked up with his buddy Busta Rhymes , who will partner with Noreaga on the business end of things. “He’s been the person, when I was away and wasn’t around, who would call me and say, ‘Yo I don’t hear no records on the streets, son,’ ” N.O.R.E. said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday, using his best Busta impression. “He’s my peer and he’s also a fan, but he wants to see me win. So why do anything separate?” N.O.R.E. hasn’t signed to Busta’s Conglomerate record label, but they have joined forces. “I’ve been down too long to be anybody’s artist. So it’s a partnership, Militainment and Conglomerate as partners for the S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G. album.” The accompanying film will blend long-form music videos with some acting, similar to what Jay-Z did with his 1998 cult favorite “Streets Is Watching.” The flick will star N.O.R.E., Ice T, Lil Wayne, Slaughterhouse’s Joell Ortiz and Fred the Godson, just to name a few. As far as whether or not he will make another record with C-N-N partner Capone, N.O.R.E. isn’t sure. “We’re straight, we’re brothers,” he confirmed about their personal relationship. “As far as recording, I don’t know yet.” Before he commits to another album, he needs to see Capone exhibit a passion for the music. “He has to love his job just as much as me, and I’m not judging him, but the thing is I actually love this,” N.O.R.E. said. Erykah Badu is Super Pissed About That Nude Flaming Lips Video [PICS]

Presumably Erykah Badu was conscious when she stripped down and climbed into a bathtub while filming the video for “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face,” her collaboration with Oklahoma freak-pop collective The Flaming Lips . And it’s a safe assumption that her sister Nayrock Badu was also aware she was being filmed when she smeared her totally nude body with glitter, fake blood, and a suspiciously jism-esque (how often do you get to use that word in a sentence?) substance. But despite this, Erykah’s got herself all worked up about the nude content of the video, which apparently was leaked online by Flaming Lips fontman Wayne Coyne without securing the R&B diva’s approval. And as divas are prone to do, yesterday she lashed out at Coyne in a public takedown on Twitter . Here’s some highlights: then… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some). .. You begged me to sit in a tub of that other shit and I said naw. I refused to sit in any liquid that was not water. But Out of RESPECT for you and the artist you ‘appear’ to be, I Didn’t wanna kill your concept , wanted u to at least get it out of your head . After all, u spent your dough on studio , trip to Dallas etc.. Sooo, I invited Nayrok , my lil sis and artist, who is much more liberal ,to be subject of those other disturbing (to me ) scenes . I told u from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing. But would give your edit a chance. You then said u would take my shots ( in clear water/ fully covered parts -seemed harmless enough) and Nayrok’s part ( which I was not present for but saw the photos and a sample scene of cornstarch dripping ) and edit them together along with cosmic, green screen images ( which no one saw) then would show me the edit. . Instead, U disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval. (Contract breech ) That is equivalent to putting out a security camera’s images of me changing in the fitting room… O, And on behalf of all the artists u have manipulated or plan to manipulate, find another way . These things have been said out of necessity. And if you don’t like it you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS . O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her ass too . Almost forgot. Peace Ohhhhhhh, cornstarch ! That’s what it was! Coyne has responded to Erykah’s anger in characteristically cheeky fashion, tweeting a picture of himself with glitter-covered lips along with the caption: “Yessss!!! Nice ass!!!!” Our thoughts exactly, Wayne. See all the good parts of the now-infamous Erykah Badu /Flaming Lips “The First Time I Saw Your Face” video right here at MrSkin.com!
