Kings Of Leon Postpone Tour Dates Due To Drummer’s Surgery

Nathan Followill’s torn bicep has forced cancellation of shows in South Africa, Australia. By Gil Kaufman Nathan Followill Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Brawny Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill was beaten up online last week after he made some comments about “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy that were considered homophobic (Followill later apologized and said he did not mean the comments in that way). But now the timekeeper for the family band is nursing some other wounds as he recovers from surgery on a torn bicep that has forced the band to cancel scheduled tour dates in March. “Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa,” Followill tweeted on Friday. “My bum wing needs more time to heal but we’ll be back later this year. Sorry again.” He was addressing those who had bought tickets for the band’s shows down under and in South Africa, where KOL were scheduled to perform throughout March. Followill has been chronicling his shoulder issues since early January, beginning with a tweet on the 12th in which he announced, “First day at the doc 4 my shoulder diagnosis post surgery. Fingers crossed that I can get back on the drums soon and restart the gun show.” The news was not good at that point, with Followill complaining about having to spend another week with his arm in a sling. The sling came off a week later, though, and by January 21, Followill said he was starting to work on his mobility in physical therapy. “1st day of rehab just kicked my ass,” he wrote. “I am one sore puppy. I can’t wait to be back to normal. I miss 2 armed activities. Especially hugging.” A spokesperson for the band confirmed that the dates in South Africa and Australia had been canceled. After those dates, the next listed gig on the KOL website is an April 15 headlining slot on the first night of the Coachella festival in Indio, California. Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Justin Bieber Talks ‘Never Say Never’

‘It’s been so much fun to be able to live my dream,’ singer says on ‘Today’ show. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the “Today” show on Monday Photo: NBC Justin Bieber is on press rounds promoting his 3-D movie “Never Say Never,” out next weekend. He appeared on the “Today” show, where he sat down with Matt Lauer to talk about the film and how it chronicles his rise to fame. “Not just that I’ve been working hard, just showing what I’ve been going through and how much it takes out of you. It’s been so much fun to be able to live my dream,” he said, with a crowd of screaming fans watching. The film is part concert film, part documentary, and his fans play a big role in it. Bieber said that the part in the film where he gives away tickets to his fans is his favorite. “I love that part. It’s one of my favorite parts because everyone gets happy. It makes everyone happier. You go in the back and you give them tickets … it’s amazing.” Bieber explained that while his rise to fame was no accident, he had no idea it would be this meteoric or epic. “It was crazy because I started out posting videos online and not wishing for anything and then this all happened really fast,” he said. “I’ve been playing music since I can remember. It’s such a big part of my life and I want that to be shown, especially in my movie.” Sure, Bieber is busy being a pop star, but he says that he makes sure that in addition to working hard, he gets some time to play hard. “Well, I make sure I have at least one day off a week. I need one day of downtime. The rest of the week is all jam-packed. I have to have at least one day,” he said. “It’s hard because I’m away from my family, like, my brother and sister. You only live once, but at the same time, by brother and sister are going to grow up and they’re going to be proud of me.” These days Bieber’s other big challenge is puberty. “My voice is definitely changing, gradually,” he said. “It’s how you go through it. I have a good vocal coach.” Related Videos ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ Sneak Peeks Related Photos Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’: Alternate Movie Titles Related Artists Justin Bieber

Nicki Minaj, Mark Zuckerberg Shake Up ‘Saturday Night Live’

Facebook founder meets onscreen alter egos Jesse Eisenberg and Andy Samberg, while Minaj rocks the stage and hilarious sketches. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Performs “Moment 4 Life” on “SNL” Photo: NBC Jesse Eisenberg just scored an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Facebook wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg, and on “Saturday Night Live” he got the chance to share the screen with his real-life inspiration. After Eisenberg prattled on about how confident he is in comparison to the characters he often plays, Andy Samberg crashed “The Social Network” star’s opening monologue as a bratty version of Zuckerberg. The two compared their Zuckerberg styles — Eisenberg speaks in short sentences, while Samberg just wears a sweatshirt and says “I’m Mark Zuckerberg” — while the real social media whiz chopped it up backstage with “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels. Eventually, the 26-year-old billionaire took the stage, and when it was revealed that Eisenberg and Zuckerberg have never met, Samberg quipped, “Awkward!” and ran off. Zuckerberg then called the Oscar-nominated tale of the origins of Facebook “interesting,” and Eisenberg graciously let the Internet entrepreneur introduce the show. Eisenberg assumed a number of alter egos on Saturday’s broadcast, like the horny adolescent who rubbed balloons on his partner’s private parts during a demonstration of static electricity on “Mr. Wizard’s World.” The “Network” actor also turned up as a hapless contestant on VH1’s “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” who blurts out whatever’s on his mind, like belting “one extra testicle” instead singing Robert Palmer’s “A Bad Case of Lovin’ You.” The star also turned up in a sketch reminiscent of his “Network” performance, as a college student who gets roped into a television interview with a surly, geriatric reporter who easily loses his train of thought and continuously slams his mic into Eisenberg’s face. Eisenberg also appeared as a castmember of MTV’s “Skins” who is reduced to hawking fried chicken and used cars by reciting clumsy product-placement lines, and paired with Samberg once again for an ad for “El Shrinko,” a product that reduces man bits to a size the ladies like — or so they say. Eisenberg also joined forces with musical guest Nicki Minaj for the “Bride of Blackenstein” sketch. Minaj played a bootylicious but mouthy creation of a groovy evil genius while Eisenberg hobbled along as the hunchbacked flunky. Minaj also rocked a digital short as a geeky voyeur with an affinity for eyeing folks during inappropriate times like, say, a funeral, and even showed viewers how to do the Peeping Tom-approved dance “The Creep.” In addition to showing off her funny side, the Trinidadian-born MC also treated viewers to two theatrical stage performances. Minaj first played “Right Thru Me,” taking the stage in a voluminous mauve ball gown made of frilly tiers as pink-tinted fog enveloped the set. The star topped off the dress with a two-toned version of the Gumby-shaped wig that captivated fans when she recently hit London. Perhaps it was the gigantic gown, but Minaj stayed put for most of the song. However, she did keep the energy up by dipping in and out of her animated voices. Minaj ditched the princess look for a funky colorful bodysuit for “Moment 4 Life.” She also swapped out her Gumby wig for the towering, streaky hairpiece from her “Bride of Blackenstein” sketch, and added thigh-high magenta boots. This time, Minaj took advantage of the stage, energetically strutting around. The MC crouched and gyrated throughout the set as she showed off her singing skills, and wrapped up the performance with a dramatic pose and sneer — the type of out-of-nowhere zaniness her fans have come to crave. “I mean, to be raised in New York, and to always hear about ‘SNL,’ ” Minaj told MTV News last week. “I never had the honor of getting a pinkie toe in the building, now [I’m] here and it feels incredible.” What did you think of “SNL” this week? Justin Bieber Debuts New ‘Never Say Never’ Poster

Teen sensation is shown between his Canadian hometown and the big city in movie poster. By Kara Warner The “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” movie poster Photo: Paramount Pictures As most of Justin Bieber ‘s die-hard fans already know, the movie event of February is quickly approaching. Bieber’s first full-length feature film, “Never Say Never,” hits theaters in about three weeks, on February 11, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. MTV News has been keeping up with the Biebs since he announced plans for the big-screen project back in August. On Monday (January 24), Paramount Pictures released a new poster for the film, which shows the 16-year-old standing tall in the middle of a street, seemingly stuck between two worlds — on the left side is his hometown of Stratford in Ontario, Canada, which is shown in black-and-white, with a sign in the background that reads “Population: 32,000”; on the right side, Bieber is standing next to the crowded New York City skyline, which is depicted in full color. The “Baby” singer is shown dressed in all black, including a black jacket that zips up off-center, black jeans and black, unlaced high-tops. The tagline reads: “Find out what’s possible if you never give up.” It’s a nice change from the first poster , which just showed Bieber’s profile and that famous, perfectly side-swept hair, partially hidden by a hoodie. It’s interesting that the “big city” shown in the new poster is New York City, however, rather than Atlanta, where Bieber moved when he was just starting out after signing with manager Scooter Braun and linking up with ATL superstar Usher. Also worth noting are two new clips and partial trailers from the movie, called “Every Stage” and “Underdog,” respectively. Both clips show a few adorable home videos of Bieber learning to play the drums around age 3, followed by shots of what his life is like now, including screaming fans, huge sold-out concerts, his friendship with Usher, etc. What do you think of the new poster and videos? Bruno Mars To Take Plea Deal In Drug Case

Grammy-nominated singer will pay a fine and complete community service to get charge dismissed. By Mawuse Ziegbe Bruno Mars Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage Bruno Mars is set to take a plea deal in a drug possession case he picked up after getting caught with cocaine in Las Vegas in September, according to The Associated Press. The “Just the Way You Are” crooner will pay a fine of $2,000 and complete drug counseling and 200 hours of community service. As long as Mars, born Peter Hernandez, does not get into any other scrapes for a year, his record will be conviction-free. Clark County District Attorney David Roger and Mars’ lawyers David Chesnoff and Blair Berk said the singer is due in court in Las Vegas on February 4 so he can waive an evidentiary hearing to later plead guilty and be sentenced in state court. “Bruno is very appreciative he is being given this opportunity as a first offender not to suffer any conviction and instead to have his charge dismissed,” Berk told the AP. “He is taking all of this quite seriously.” Mars ran into trouble last fall at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel when a bathroom attendant noticed Mars with a “baggy of white powder substance.” The singer tested positive for cocaine at the time of his arrest, and reportedly said he “did a foolish thing and has never used drugs before.” Putting the cocaine bust behind him isn’t the only good thing coming up for Mars. The singer/songwriter is up for seven Grammy nominations, and will hit the stage at the big show. After the nominations were announced in December, MTV News caught up with Mars and his writing and production crew, the Smeezingtons, — who have put their touch on hits like Cee Lo’s “F— You” and B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” — and he said he was amped for the nods. “But the fact [is] that we worked so hard this year. In a little tiny shack studio, we’d have B.o.B in there [writing] ‘Nothin’ on You’ with us, Cee Lo writing ‘F— You’ with us. The fact that it’s being acknowledged by the Grammys is incredible. It’s really making us feel like we did something. We’re being acknowledged by the biggest.” The Grammys will air live on February 13. Related Artists Bruno Mars
