Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring ‘Zombie Boy,’ features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, “I don’t speak German, but I can if you like,” as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs. Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, “I’m absolutely clear/ As long as I’m a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there.” She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem. There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a ’90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for “Alejandro,” which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler. Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, “I’ll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like,” accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out. Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. “I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess,” she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. “But don’t tell him I said that, he’ll die. David Guetta ‘Honored’ To Have Rihanna On ‘Who’s That Chick’

By Akshay Bhansali David Guetta Photo: MTV News David Guetta has made himself at home on the U.S. charts, teaming up with a long list of heavyweight collaborating partners that includes the Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Lil Wayne, Taio Cruz and Flo Rida. The electronic dance-music producer recently added Rihanna to that list, and he spoke to MTV News about their collabo, “Who’s That Chick.” Guetta originally produced the track for Rihanna’s return-to-pop/R&B album, Loud. But when it didn’t make the final cut, Guetta decided to release “Who’s That Chick” on his own, with the Barbados singer featuring. After just three weeks on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart, “Chick” is sitting at #3, and at #51 on the Hot 100. And given that the song almost didn’t happen, it’s an impressive feat. “Bu, which is Akon’s brother, was doing the A&R on the new album for Rihanna [and] came to me and asked me for some tracks,” Guetta recalled during a sit-down with MTV News on Wednesday. “And I was feeling terrible because I’m such a huge fan but I didn’t have any beats that would fit. I just didn’t have any ideas. Sometimes two artists wanna work together, but it doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen, because you have to find the right idea.” Luckily, Guetta was able to overcome his temporary beatmakers’ block. “I came up with the idea for the song for ‘Who’s That Chick,’ and I said, ‘That’s it. It’s perfect!’ ” Guetta continued. “I went to see her in London; she was having a concert. And just before the concert, I went to see her backstage and I played her the record and she was like, ‘Yeah, I like it.’ But I think she was doubting it a little bit. And then after the concert, I saw her again and she was like, ‘That record is stuck in my head!’ And I was like, ‘OK, let’s do it!’ Finally, which is really amazing for me, we did it as ‘David Guetta featuring Rihanna.’ It’s a great honor for me.” Remixes of the club jam are now available digitally, including additional edits and mixes by Adam F, Afrojack and Guetta. Fans can also look forward to not one, but two music videos for Guetta’s “Who’s That Chick,” which have been shot and will drop in the next few weeks. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the February 2011 cover of Vanity Fair Photo: Art Streiber / Conde Nast Not only is Justin Bieber the subject of a coveted cover story in Vanity Fair ‘s latest issue , the teenage pop superstar has been tapped to guest edit the magazine’s Facebook page. “This week, the Vanity Fair Facebook page gets its first-ever guest editor: Justin Bieber!” the magazine announced on the website on Monday (January 10). “Check back later today for exclusive content, video, and giveaways …” For his first post on the site (the only one the pop star had contributed as of press time), Bieber gave fans a quick synopsis of what he’ll be up to this week. “Pretty cool that I get to host the Vanity Fair Facebook page this week. I’m proud of my interview and cover — it was the most intense interview I’ve ever done,” he shared. “Gonna be a fun week — make sure you make some comments because I will send one random fan who writes in the comments section a signed copy of my book. LEGGOOOO!” Michael Hogan, executive online editor, talked about Bieber’s guest-editor gig in a statement to MTV News: “The genius of Facebook is the way it enables people to talk to each other in a whole new way, and Vanity Fair is uniquely positioned to give our fans a whole new way of interacting with the world’s most fascinating people. ‘American Idol’ Alum Allison Iraheta Weighs In On Revamped Show

By Gil Kaufman Allison Iraheta via streaming video on Wednesday Photo: MTV News Allison Iraheta knows what it’s like to be the young kid on “American Idol.” She made it to the top four in season 8 when she was just 16, making her the youngest singer to ever advance that far on the show. But when the now-18-year-old music biz veteran dropped in to participate in MTV’s first-ever post-“American Idol” live stream on Wednesday night, even she was shocked at how young some of the contestants were on night one of season 10’s audition round. “Damn, that’s scary!” Iraheta said via Skype. “I was scared for my auditions. Fifteen? That’s when everyone is figuring out who the hell they are. I didn’t even know who the hell I was until a year ago.” With the age limit dropped to 15 this year, Iraheta said she hopes a young ‘un can win, but admitted that before she came out onstage when she was on the show, she would often totally freak out due to nerves. “Really, be you, be who you are, be true to yourself,” Iraheta advises contestants. The big question of the night, of course, was whether Iraheta missed departed judge Simon Cowell, who famously put her through the ringer a few times during her season. “It was different, right?” she said of the vibe with new superstar judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez . “I think change is good. We all miss him. It’s a little weird at first. I think it’s cool. It’s about time they did a little something different.” Iraheta is sporting new dark locks, which replace her signature flame-red hair. She said the radical change came about after she grew tired of seeing “16 chicks at the mall” with the same kind of red streaks in their hair. Though she couldn’t reveal much detail about her upcoming second album, Iraheta said it was going to be a “hell of a year,” promising some rocking new music. Unlike pal and season 8 “Idol” winner Kris Allen , Iraheta didn’t have specific comments on how Tyler and Lopez did, but she was happy to sing a bit of J Lo’s “Jenny From the Block” to spice up her appearance. Ashlyne Huff Raises Her ‘White Flag’ On Debut Single

By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Ashlyne Huff Photo: MTV News Rising singer Ashlyne Huff ‘s first foray into the dance/pop arena may be dubbed “White Flag,” but according to the songstress, the track is not about giving up, but rather giving in — to awesomeness. The Nashville newcomer recently broke down the concept of the peppy, synth-driven jam — which just hit radio airwaves — to MTV News and explained that the single has nothing to do with relinquishing control, but rather trying out something new. “My first single’s called ‘White Flag,’ and most people are like, ‘Oh, what are you surrendering?’ I’m like, ‘Nothing, really, besides my heart.’ I wrote it about something that actually drew from some life experience,” she said. “Some guy, like, likes you, tries to get your attention, [and] you don’t necessarily blow him off, you just don’t notice. And finally, you … take a second and you decide, ‘OK, I’m gonna give this one [a] shot. What do I have to lose?’ and then it ends up being kind of awesome. The good kind of surrender — it’s good for you not to control every moment of your day.” The daughter of producer and guitarist Dan Huff, who has worked on records by Madonna and Michael Jackson, Ashlyne is poised to make her mark on the music scene with her forthcoming album, Let It Out. Inspired by everyone from Janet Jackson (Huff used to jam to the superstar’s smashes while cheerleading) to singer/songwriters like Marc Broussard and Natasha Bedingfield, the songbird and dance enthusiast describes her album as a peppy selection of dance-floor-ready cuts; even the slow jams are made for busting a move. “This single is indicative of the rest of the album. It’s fun, upbeat, very dance-oriented, because I like to dance in everything I [can] possibly do, even the slow stuff. Somehow, we can get it in there,” she said. “The whole album’s called Let It Out, and it’s just one of the ways to let it out. Let go of things, let go of that control. … And also being whoever it is that you are, be who you are, no matter what that means for you, and don’t hold back.” As for laying down tracks for Let, Huff cranked out the album in a marathon week of nonstop recording sessions, teaming up with a crew of writers and producers well-versed in crafting diva-approved hits. “We kind of created this little creative compound, and we went in the studio for seven days — actually, no six days — in California with Evan Bogart, who wrote on [Beyonc

Stalley Is Shooting For Greatness On Lincoln Way Nights

Ohio native gave up NBA aspirations and tells Mixtape Daily, ‘I’m more than an MC.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Stalley Photo: Courtesy of Stalley Fire Starter: Stalley In person, upstart rapper Stalley is unassuming and measured. But once the former high school sports star gets in the booth, he delivers with the same kind of authority that landed him on the University of Michigan men’s basketball team. Now, on the cusp of releasing his next project, Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music), a mixtape set to drop in February, the Ohio native is poised to make the transition from underground sensation to starter. “I’m more than an MC, I’m actually a writer. I can write songs. I can write good songs, and that’s what I want to do,” Stalley told Mixtape Daily. “That’s what I did on this project. I wrote out full songs, with ill concepts, ill lyrics and ill beats. Everything is put together. I want to be a great American writer, not just an MC, not just a rapper. So to be that, is just amazing to me.” The Creative Control/ Ski Beatz affiliate first made noise last year with his Madlib-inspired project, MadStalley: The Autobiography. Since then, he’s made his mark in a variety of ways, including blog partnerships with Slam magazine and HighSnobiety, a clothing sponsorship with 10 Deep and putting out the rumbling track “Hercules.” Now, three years after giving his undivided attention to hip-hop — back-to-back injuries at Michigan and then Long Island University shifted his focus — he’s beginning to see the payoff. That decision wasn’t easy for the Massillon native: His Ohio hometown is obsessive about high school sports (check the movie “Go Tigers” ), but Stalley was able to channel that intensity into the laidback Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) collection. “When you’re someone known to be a lyricist, when you’re writing certain music, it comes off as dumbing it down,” he explained of searching for a sound over punchlines. “And people are confused, ‘Is this good?’ ‘Cause you’re used to this super lyrical dude. I took that and put it to the side and was just me. I spoke my story in a deeper way over deeper beats. So, I’m really happy with it. ‘American Idol’ Champ Kris Allen Rates Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez

A major highlight was the appearance, via Skype, of season-eight champ Kris Allen, who said hello with his dog Zorro and offered his thoughts on the new judges. “I thought they were good. I thought Steven Tyler was obviously the most interesting one,” Allen said. “I figured he was going to be a wacky kind of guy, and, I mean, you can’t be mad at him for singing [along] all the time — he’s freakin’ Steven Tyler! I thought it was awesome, I really did.” When asked how Tyler and Lopez might have influenced his audition, had they been the judges during Allen’s winning season, the 25-year-old said he hoped the Aerosmith frontman would have joined in on his audition like he did on Wednesday’s episode. “That would [have been] awesome,” Allen said. “It’s probably a little bit different to sing for someone like Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, because they have been in the industry for so long and you’ve been watching them do it forever, so it would probably be weird.” On the whole, Allen said the evening’s viewing experience — which he shared with his wife, Katy, and a couple of friends — was a good time. “It was fun,” he said. “It wasn’t mind-blowing or anything. I thought there were some good singers. I thought there was some funny stuff, and I thought Steven Tyler was great,” he said, adding that his dog, Zorro, definitely liked J.Lo the best.
