Nicki Minaj To Perform On ‘Saturday Night Live’

Jesse Eisenberg will host the January 29 episode; Linkin Park and Dana Carvey lined up for February 5 show. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj has been tapped as the musical guest for an upcoming episode of “Saturday Night Live.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Young Money MC will join “Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg, who will serve as host, for the show’s January 29 broadcast. THR also reported that Linkin Park will perform during the February 5 episode, which is set to feature hosting duties from former “SNL” castmember Dana Carvey. Known for her out-of-the-box fashion and manic rhymes, Minaj will likely perform her new single, “Moment 4 Life,” featuring Drake, as she brought the tune to her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” earlier this week. Eisenberg’s and Minaj’s upcoming appearance marks the first time for both on the sketch show. “SNL” isn’t the only treat Minaj has up her sleeve for her fans. Minaj recently teamed up with Rihanna to shoot the music video for another one of the MC’s new singles, “Fly.” When E! News asked about the concept for the upcoming clip, Nicki remained tight-lipped, saying, “We’re going to save the world in more ways than one with the video, and that’s all I can say about that.” However, it was the duo’s TwitPics that sent the Internet ablaze when rumors circulated that Nicki and Rihanna were living together . The MC took to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to clear the air. “I don’t know where people got this really insane, hilarious, random rumor that she and I were living together,” she said. “We just shot the video for a song I have on the album I have called ‘Fly,’ and when I saw her, the first thing I said was, ‘So, did you hear we’re living together?’ and we just started cracking up laughing. She was like, ‘Yo, I can’t believe that people are, like, this ridiculous. So we Twit-Pic’d ourselves, and she put it on Twitter and said ‘Me and Nicki at our new pad’ or something.” Are you excited for Nicki’s “SNL” debut? Tell us what you think! ‘Alien’ Prequel Turns Into Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

‘While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology,’ director tells Deadline. By Kara Warner Ridley Scott Photo: 20th Century Fox Ever since news broke that Ridley Scott would be revisiting his famous “Alien” franchise in the form of a prequel, the Internets have been a buzzing with rumors, analysis, etc. There have been a slew of actors and writers rumored to be attached to the film , including Keanu Reeves and Natalie Portman, writer John Spaihts and a rewrite from “Lost” genius Damon Lindelof. What we know so far is that the film will be set 30 years prior to the original “Alien,” and on Friday (January 14) came word that it isn’t so much a prequel as something “more original,” according to a Deadline report. The film has an official title, “Prometheus,” and release date, March 9, 2012. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (“Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) has signed on to star as Elizabeth Shaw, one of two female leads. The rest of the cast is said to be filled out “soon,” with Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron both said to be interested in jumping on Scott’s expectedly epic return to sci-fi filmmaking. Scott once told MTV News that he “avoided sequels, unless [he] felt there was something fresh,” and judging from what he’s doing with “Prometheus,” the new film will be just that. “While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” he said. “The keen fan will recognize strands of ‘Alien’ ‘s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.” Lindelof said what lured him in was Scott’s original vision for the film: “It’s daring, visceral and, hopefully, the last thing anyone expects,” he said, adding that working with the Oscar winner is a dream come true. “When I sat in a movie theater as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Joe Jonas Wants Fans To Dance To His Solo Album

‘They’ve been wanting this for me for a long time,’ he tells MTV News of support from Jonas Brothers Nick and Kevin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News The Jonas Brothers always seem to stand by one another, even if that means stepping away from the trio to try out new projects. Last year, Joe and Kevin gave Nick their blessing when he released a solo LP. And now that Joe is working on new music , his brothers are showing him the same support. “I think there’s a lot of emotions that I feel about doing my solo project. I think I was nervous in the beginning,” Joe told MTV News when we visited him and producer Danja at the studio. “I wanted to have my brothers’ support, and the fact they’re both so excited for me and they’ve been wanting this for me for a long time [is great].” As part of Nick Jonas and the Administration, Nick released the bluesy, pop rock album Who I Am in 2010, but Joe’s project will likely have a different sound. “To be able to go on a musical journey for a while and finally, with finding Danja and working with him, we’ve been able to collaborate on something that really works for me,” Joe explained. “And [to] find me and not try to mold it into something it’s not, to try and be myself and my music and kind of tell stories and be honest and just have something … [that] when people hear it, hopefully they’ll be able to dance to it and have a good time.” While their solo musical directions may differ, Joe said he learned some things from Nick. “I think the biggest thing that I saw from [Nick], he just had a good time,” he said. “He made a record that was for him and this one is for me and my fans. To be able to get in here everyday and just vibe out, we’re all just having a great time in here. The biggest piece is that I’m on the journey. … It’s just gonna be a fun vibe to everything.” Are you looking forward to hearing Joe’s solo material? Tell us in the comments! Britney Spears Taking Risks For ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video

‘She is taking risks when it comes to fashion, when it comes to choreography, when it comes to this music,’ choreographer Brian Friedman says. By James Dinh Britney Spears Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage In Britney Spears’ “For the Record” documentary, the pop icon stressed the importance of dance in her life, even saying that she’d be “dead” without it. And on the heels of a new era in music, the singer is ready to take her signature dance skills to a whole new level in the music video for her latest single, “Hold It Against Me,” according to choreographer Brian Friedman. Speaking with MTV’s “The Seven,” Friedman dished details on rehearsal time, his take on the new tune and his longtime partnership with the entertainer. “This is a dance video. Rehearsals can get pretty rough,” the choreographer said. “We’re playing it safe, we’re not trying to kill ourselves yet, but as the video comes closer and closer, we’ll definitely be hurting our backs. There was a moment while we were rehearsing where I showed Britney a section and it was something I really wanted her to do, and she freaked out. … It’s crazy when you first see something like that, how overwhelming it can be, especially when you haven’t been in the [dance] studio for a year.” Despite Ms. Spears’ early hesitation, the dance mastermind said it was probably the wrong section of the routine to show her first, revealing that the pop superstar has learned the moves and is “killing it now.” Reports of a new Britney music video leaked in December when the fansite BreatheHeavy.com posted a notice for auditions. “It’s been the biggest buzz, you know?” he continued. “There’s been a lot of speculation as to when the actual project started and it’s been blowing up on my Twitter. People have been asking, ‘Are you in rehearsals? Are you in auditions?’ and that’s the mystery that should be unknown. What we do know is we’re in rehearsal studios right now and the video’s coming.” How exactly does “Hold It Against Me” fare in comparison to the slew of other dance tunes under Britney’s belt? Calling the iTunes chart topper “the hardest dance track that she’s ever put out,” Friedman said, “It’s infectious. The beat gets inside of you, and just when you think you know it, it takes a turn. The song, in particular, is one of my favorite songs I’ve heard off the bat. I’m really excited about choreographing it.” Spears and Friedman have a long-standing professional relationship, including working together on the pop singer’s 2002 dance heavy “Overprotected (Remix)” music video. Later on in his chat with “The Seven,” the Illinois native recalled his first encounter with the then-teenager through a mutual friend who was dancing for her at the time. After meeting with the singer, Brian teamed up with her for her Grammy performance. “From then on, we became friends and she is fun to work with,” he gushed. “She’s a Southern girl — she’s all about having fun and laughing and cracking jokes. I think you can expect the unexpected from Britney. She is taking risks when it comes to fashion, when it comes to choreography, when it comes to this music — she’s grown up so much, and she’s pushing 30 years old soon, so she’s a strong independent woman and I think she wants to show that.” Are you looking forward to seeing Britney’s “Hold It Against Me” video? Usher Gets Sick, Walks Offstage Mid-Show In Berlin

Singer cancels kick off date of European leg of his OMG Tour due to illness. By Gil Kaufman Usher (file) Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Usher was forced to delay the kick off of his European OMG Tour on Wednesday night in Berlin because of illness. In a statement released to fans, the singer apologized for the last-minute scratch, saying he felt he was suffering from a “sinus complication.” Although the gig was rescheduled for Thursday night at the O2 World arena in Berlin, his German fans apparently weren’t appeased by his effort. “I am truly sorry to all my fans in Berlin who were inconvenienced by tonight’s postponement of the show,” the singer said in a statement about Wednesday’s aborted concert. “I was ill and felt that I would not have been able to give them the show that they properly deserve. … I am looking forward to performing tomorrow and giving Berliners a great show.” According to the statement, the singer received treatment from doctors for a sinus issue that affected his balance, but a visibly still-ailing Usher was unable to finish the Thursday make-up show, reportedly abandoning the stage after just five songs. On Friday (January 14), a follow-up statement from his spokesperson confirmed that he was too ill to play Thursday night’s Berlin date and has been forced to reschedule the next three dates on the tour as well. The Rotterdam show originally scheduled for this week has been moved to March 1 and a show in Antwerp, also slated for this week, has been bumped to March 7. The statement also updated the singer’s condition: “Usher is suffering from upper respiratory illness, which is currently preventing him from performing a proper show. After consultation with doctors, he has been advised to reschedule the upcoming dates in order to get the rest he needs to ensure a complete recovery.” Footage posted on YouTube that was purportedly taken at the make-up performance in Berlin shows Usher standing silently at the microphone seemingly unable to sing, with fans booing him at first and then chanting, “Usher, Usher,” as he approaches the microphone and apologizes to them for his struggles. “I appreciate your support,” he told the fans wearily. “I have been very excited about my European Tour and I deeply regret having to reschedule the shows,” the singer said in the new statement. “I am truly sorry for any inconvenience I have caused my fans. My fans are the best in the world and I am looking forward to getting better so that I can give them the show they deserve.” Usher wrapped up the North American leg of his tour in December and his overseas dates are slated to last through the spring. Drake Reveals Plans For Album With Lil Wayne

Drizzy jokes to Tim Westwood about rivaling Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne. By Alvin Blanco Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: Julia Beverly Jay-Z and Kanye West already have two potential challengers to their upcoming Watch the Throne. In an interview with U.K. radio personality Tim Westwood, Drake announced that he and Lil Wayne are working on a joint album of their own, and he took a couple of jabs at Hova and Yeezy’s project in the process. “I’ll be on [ Tha Carter IV ], though … We’ve done a great song … and then we’re going to do another one, and another one,” the Young Money MC said. “We still got to do that album. I heard some other guys are coming out with an album, too. There’s two other rappers that are coming out with an album together. … I don’t know where they got that idea but …” Westwood probably knew Drake was referring to Jay-Z and West but played into the coy act, saying, “I’m very slow; can you just break it down a bit simpler for me please?” Then Drake continued, “I just caught wind of it through the grapevine, that there’s some other album coming out with two guys rapping on it too.” “Oh, those two … you mean the older guys,” Westwood said. “Oh, I didn’t say that,” Drake replied. “They look young to me … in their movements.” West and Drake haven’t been as close as they seemed back in 2009, when Yeezy directed the up-and-comer’s video for “Best I Ever Had.” The Toronto rapper recently was left off of the final version of West’s “All of the Lights,” but he told Shade 45 radio that he was OK with it. Drake’s sophomore album, Take Care, is due later this year. Related Photos Drake And Lil Wayne: A Look Back In Photos Related Artists Drake Lil Wayne
