Ludacris Says ‘Education Is Extremely Important’ For Music Career

‘If you don’t have the right education … then you’re not gonna last in my business,’ he explains at Get Schooled event. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Jeff Schneider Ludacris Photo: MTV News Flying around the world, hanging with rich and powerful stars and getting paid gobs of cash to crank out hit records probably sounds like a glamorous and cushy gig. But take it from Ludacris, aspiring hitmakers can’t play around if they want to make their mark in the music game. The ATL star recently gave MTV News the low-down on how to hit high notes both on and off the charts. “Education is extremely important, especially in my business, the music business,” Luda insisted at a Get Schooled event on Friday, where Keri Hilson and MTV News’ Sway also schooled attendees on the value of education. “You hear a lot of the times that the music business is 90 percent business [and] 10 percent music. If you don’t have the right education and you don’t educate yourself, then you’re not gonna last in my business.” The advice may be hard to hear for budding entertainers who want to simply belt or bust some moves to achieve to musical greatness. However, Luda maintains his tough words are just about tough love, as he’s aiming to empower other people with the chance to realize their dreams. “I’m here today ’cause I’m one of those individuals that I dream my painting and then I paint my dream and I want to make sure I carry on that message to everybody,” Luda explained. “If I have the time to invest and make sure I give back — I have my own foundation — and I just love when a lot of different people come together for a positive energy ’cause there’s so many negative things going on out there. We gon’ send them a positive message today.” Stay tuned to MTV News for more information about how you can get the president to speak at your commencement celebration at the end of this school year. Get Schooled is a national program aimed at increasing high school and college graduation rates and promoting the importance of education, developed by Viacom in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Lindsay Lohan Freed From Jail

Actress leaves prison after posting $300,000 bail. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lindsay Lohan at Beverly Hills Courthouse Friday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images After spending less than a day in prison, Lindsay Lohan was released after posting $300,000 bail. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told The Associated Press that the actress left jail around 11:40 p.m. Friday night. Lohan was jailed Friday morning, a week after the actress admitted to failing a court-ordered drug test . Judge Elden Fox initially denied the troubled star bail and she was immediately taken into custody following her hearing. The move was reportedly designed to keep the actress in prison until her upcoming October 22 court date and reduce the chance of an early release due to overcrowding. However, Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, later insisted her client was entitled to bail and a second judge, Patricia M. Schnegg, overturned Fox’s ruling. Lohan is still due back in court next month. TMZ reports that Lohan is required to wear a SCRAM bracelet and avoid venues where alcohol is the “chief item of sale.” Lohan is familiar with the alcohol-monitoring device as she was outfitted with a SCRAM bracelet in May, which reportedly went off at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty. After serving 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence and 23 days of court-ordered rehab, Lohan recently conceded that she was still grappling with her addiction issues. “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result,” Lohan tweeted a week ago. “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future. … This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences.” Related Videos Lindsay Lohan: Crime And Punishment Related Photos Busted! ‘Eastbound & Down’ Team Reveals What To Expect From Season Two

Kenny Powers realizes ‘he might be an ass man,’ Danny McBride says of his character’s ‘moral dilemma.’ By Kara Warner Ana de la Reguera in “Eastbound & Down” Photo: HBO LOS ANGELES — Well, “Eastbound & Down” fans, your wait is almost over. HBO’s outrageous, irreverent comedy is back for a second season beginning Sunday, complete with Marilyn Manson’s obsession and cameo bid . Kenny Powers has fled North Carolina for the comforts of a small town in Mexico, where he’s joined by familiar faces and new ones. MTV News hit up the show’s Mexican fiesta-themed premiere recently to find out what this new season is all about. “He’s got a new haircut, as we can see,” creator/writer/director Jody Hill said of Kenny Powers’ cornrows. “He’s in Mexico. There’s a whole new group of characters, so all the people you knew in the first season, we’ve kind of wiped the slate clean and started fresh.” “I play his neighbor,” “Eastbound & Down” newbie Efren Ramirez said. “And in the second season, I play the straight guy wrapped around all these character actors, and that’s a good thing, because I’m always playing all the character roles,” he explained (i.e. Pedro of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame) and this is finally something completely and totally different.” Actor Michael Pe

Lil Wayne’s ‘Not A Human Being’ Clip Dissected

‘He’s almost grown into a mythology now,’ director David Rousseau says. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Lil Wayne’s otherworldly talents have inspired the rapper to dub himself “a Martian.” And for his latest video , the title track to his forthcoming album I Am Not a Human Being , director David Rousseau explored the reference. “It’s one of those things where you can interpret it like we’re trying to dissect who Lil Wayne is,” Rousseau told MTV News. “How does his mind work? He’s almost grown into a mythology now. He’s not even human. He’s like Michael Jordan. The way Michael Jordan dunks a ball wasn’t even human.” The frenzied video features Lil Wayne and his glow-in-the-dark tattoos contrasted with images of written rhymes splashed across the screen. Rousseau said the images were meant to provoke deeper thought into Wayne’s writing process. Oftentimes, the director said, because of the rapper’s personality, the ideas of his lyrics aren’t fully comprehended. “It’s just that dissection of the myth and the man, separating him from the lyrics,” he explained. “Because he’s one of those artists where people hang onto every lyric. He’s not just rapping about anything, you know? Read between the lines and find out what his message is about and stuff. It’s kind of pointing fans at doing that. There’s a deeper meaning to what he’s rapping about, and you gotta get in there.” A leaked version of the video hit the Web last week, but the complete “I Am Not a Human Being” clip was released Wednesday. 30 Seconds To Mars Call Kanye West Collabo An ‘Unexpected Surprise’

‘It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done,’ Jared Leto tells MTV News of ‘Hurricane.’ By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto Photo: Sohyung Kang/ MTV News Last year, when 30 Seconds to Mars were still laboring on This Is War, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Kanye West posted a photo on his blog of him, Jared Leto and the Killers’ Brandon Flowers in the studio, where the trio had apparently just finished recording a “dope-ass song.” Later, Leto explained to MTV News that the “dope-ass song” was called “Hurricane,” and it featured West singing, minus the Auto-Tune he’d been dabbling with at the time (there was no mention of Flowers’ involvement). It sounded like a promising collaboration, but, sadly, fans never actually got to hear it: When This Is War hit stores, “Hurricane” was on there, but West’s work wasn’t. Leto explained that the band had to remove Kanye from the track at the last minute, due to some rather restrictive deadlines and a lot of back-and-forth between record labels, but he and his 30STM mates were so impressed with West’s contributions that they pledged that someday, somehow, the song would see the light of day. And, as it turns out, they kept their promise. On November 2, 30STM will release a deluxe edition of This Is War, featuring a DVD, a pair of live tracks recorded for the BBC (including a version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”) and, at long last, the full, Kanye West-ified version of “Hurricane.” It’s been a long time in the making, but, as Leto told MTV News on Friday (September 24), the song is worth the wait. “Let’s put it this way: It’s a collision of two worlds, and I think it’s a completely unexpected surprise. He’s not only on the track, but he’s phenomenal on the track. … It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done, in my opinion,” he said. “His singing is incredible on it, and he’s done a lot of really wonderful work, and I think this only adds to his work as a whole. … Working with him was an incredible experience.” Leto said the new/old version of “Hurricane” (he prefers to call it “an alternative experience”) doesn’t stray all that far from the version that ended up on This Is War — they’re both decidedly bleak ruminations on death and lust and sacrifice — but it does feature West getting darker than he’s ever gotten before. “It was an interesting time. … I remember, he started here at the house, where we made the record, and then we finished in Hawaii,” Leto said. “It is a song that’s on the darker side of things. It’s the flipside of ‘Kings and Queens’ — which has a through line of optimism and hope, and a really strong spirit to it — this song explores a different territory, and his lyrics do the same.” Leto added that, if it were up to him and West, the song would’ve ended up on the original version of This Is War, but now that 30STM are gearing up to shoot a video for the track , it does present a rather interesting opportunity — perhaps a cameo by Kanye? “I think that would be an interesting element to add for sure,” Leto laughed. “We’ll just have to see.” Are you happy the Kanye/30STM collabo is finally seeing the light of day? ‘Glee’ Tackles Britney Spears’ Snake-Charming VMA Set

Heather Morris rocks a boa and bikini similar to Spears’ 2001 Video Music Awards performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Heather Morris on “Glee” Photo: Adam Rose/ Fox Hold tight, Gleeks! The all-Britney Spears episode of “Glee” is just days away, and details about the pop star’s tribute are trickling in. We already know the McKinley high-schoolers are going to revamp Brit’s debut smash ” … Baby One More Time” and her Madonna match-up “Me Against the Music.” The song-and-dance crew has also reached beyond Spears’ trendsetting clips to one of her iconic stage performances: the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards rendition of “I’m a Slave 4 U.” A picture surfaced Friday (September 24) of the megastar’s “Glee” namesake Brittany (played by Heather Morris) rocking a bejeweled green-and-blue two-piece similar to Spears’ skimpy VMA ensemble, with a yellow boa draped over her shoulders. Morris recently opened up about the arc of Tuesday’s episode, dishing that the glee clubbers rebel against Schuester’s ban on retooling Spears’ hits. “Through a special substance, I go under and have a couple of dream sequences — not only myself, but with Santana [Naya Rivera],” Morris told Australian magazine TV Week. “A lot of it has to do with Will [Matthew Morrison] not allowing us to perform Britney Spears songs, because he doesn’t agree with what kind of entertainer she is, so it’s our fight to do Britney. But it’s not just us doing Britney in show choir; there are other sequences — it’s our homage to her.” Tuesday’s show is shaping up to be a busy one for Morris, who is also vamping it up opposite Spears herself in their reworking of “Music.” However, the actress insisted her previous encounters with Spears helped her stay cool around the pop icon. “It wasn’t really nerve-racking, because I’ve met her before and I wasn’t really overwhelmed by who she is,” she said. “But the idea of what she has given us for the show and, for me, getting to dance with her and play with her on set, I was just staring at her at one point and thinking, ‘This is just so frickin’ awesome.’ ” Are you excited for the Britney takeover on “Glee” next week? Lindsay Lohan Reportedly Aiming For Early Jail Release

But L.A. Sheriff’s spokesperson tells People the starlet won’t be released until her October hearing. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lindsay Lohan in custody on Friday (Sept 24) Photo: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department/ Getty Im Lindsay Lohan has returned to jail , an increasingly familiar place for the troubled starlet. However, the actress is reportedly trying to leave her new digs as soon as possible. Radar Online reports that Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, huddled with Judge Elden Fox and the deputy district attorney on Friday (September 24), hours after the actress was sent to jail for the second time in three months. “Lindsay’s lawyer is asking that bail be set,” a Lohan source told the website. “Shawn Chapman Holley contends that Judge Fox must grant Lohan bail pending the probation-violation hearing on October 22.” Lohan was sent back to prison after she admitted to failing a recent drug test . According to the requirements of her release after rehab, a positive drug and/or alcohol test is grounds for additional jail time. Judge Fox denied the “Freaky Friday” actress bail and she was handcuffed and taken into custody. Lohan is expected to remain locked up until her hearing next month. Lohan’s lawyer did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment at press time. Although Lohan’s legal muscle is apparently pulling out all the stops to get her released early, authorities maintain the actress won’t be sprung until her next court date. “Ms. Lohan cannot be released early because this isn’t a jail sentence,” L.A. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told People. “She’s being held by court order until her hearing on October 22. She will be held in the same conditions as her last stay, in a keep-away unit.” She may not be headed for an early exit, but her entrance into prison is similar to her last visit. “She’s now being processed through, she’s going to go through the same physical and mental evaluation,” said Whitmore, who noted that, “for the safety and security of the entire jail system,” Lohan will be separated from her fellow inmates. In July, Lohan served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence over a probation violation stemming from a 2007 DUI conviction. She followed up the jail time with 23 days in a court-ordered rehab facility, less than a third of her 90-day sentence. Kanye West And Jay-Z Are ‘So Appalled’ On New Track

‘Ye also drafts Swizz Beatz, RZA, Pusha T and Cyhi Da Prynce for latest G.O.O.D. Friday track. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kanye West Photo: Gabriela Maj/ Getty Images Another Friday, another Kanye West -helmed all-star collabo. The hip-hop superstar’s latest weekly offering, “So Appalled,” continues his trend of packing a varied cast of big-name stars onto a single record. This week, ‘Ye recruited G.O.O.D. Music signee Pusha T, fellow MC/producer Swizz Beatz and rap luminary Jay-Z for repeat guest spots. Wu-Tang Clan ringleader RZA follows in the footsteps of Wu member Raekwon by dropping a G.O.O.D. Friday verse and newcomer Cyhi Da Prynce makes an appearance. ‘Ye tweeted Friday evening (September 24) that, unlike his recent free track “Lord Lord Lord,” which surfaced Saturday morning , G.O.O.D. Friday followers could expect a new song to kick off the weekend. “Good Friday actually coming on time this week!” he wrote . “We do this for our culture!” “So Appalled” also differs from the soulful instrumentation and introspective lyricism of “Lord” on several fronts. Accompanied by gruesome artwork of a nude woman splayed on a white surface with blood streaming from her mouth, the song has a testy, restless vibe with midtempo rhythms and ominous shuddering strings. Swizzy sets the track’s tone with ad-libs such as “one hand in the air, if you don’t really care” as West follows with bars like “We above the law, we don’t give a f— ’bout y’all/ I got dogs that’ll chew a f—ing hole through the wall.” Jay takes jabs at ankle-biting MCs, launching his verse with, “How should I begin this?/ I’m just so offended/ How am I even mentioned by these f—in’ beginners?/ I’m so appalled/ I might buy the mall/ Just to show n—as how much more I have in store.” Hov spends most of his bars deconstructing the hate that surrounds outsize fame but poses the question, “Would you rather be underpaid or overrated?” Push is up next with his own views on reaching the top, spitting, “Success is what you make it/ Take it how it come/ A half a mill in 20s like a billion where I’m from.” Cyhi holds his own among an intimidating roster of established MCs with lines like “If god had an iPod, I’d be on his playlist” and “Thou shalt not hate, kid/ My movement is like the civil rights, I’m Ralph David/ Abernathy, so call my lady Rosa Parks/ I am nothing like them n—as, baby those are marks.” RZA comes right in as Cyhi steps back, nearly clipping the end of his verse with bellows of “f—in’ ridiculous” riding out the track with rhymes like “Cars for the Mrs. and furs for the mistress/ You know that sh– is f—in’ ridiculous.” How do you like Kanye West’s “So Appalled”? Adam Lambert Recalls Lady Gaga, Madonna Career Advice

‘You just have to count on yourself and go for it,’ Lambert says Gaga told him. By Jocelyn Vena Adam Lambert Photo: Kevin Parry/ WireImage Adam Lambert has managed to speed through every stage of fame during his brief time as a celebrity. He’s been loved by his fans, hated by his critics, released an album and hit the road for his first headlining tour . And Lambert has managed to deal with all the pressures of fame thanks to some great advice he’s gotten from two very famous ladies. “She told me about the previous three years. She worked really, really hard before she made it. She told me there’s no glamour, you don’t get a lot of sleep, you don’t get a lot of stability in your social life — you just have to count on yourself and go for it. It was a good pep talk,” Lambert told Australia’s news.com.au about his pal Lady Gaga ‘s advice. “And she was right.” Like Gaga, Madonna, has warned Lambert about some of the negative sides of fame, including all those haters. “She told me that you can’t get wrapped up in all the media and message boards, that everyone’s going to have an opinion. People will criticize you, especially when you’re doing it well. You can’t do much better than getting career advice from Madonna,” he said. “She’s the queen, right? I’ve [learned] there are plenty of challenges, but if you work hard enough you can arrive. You find a spot for yourself and get to communicate with your art and hopefully inspire people. That’s what I’m working towards.” Like both those iconic women, Lambert has become a bit of a face for the gay community. But he doesn’t want that to be the only thing he’s known as. “I’m very comfortable with my sexuality and I have no qualms talking about it,” he said. “It’s important for me to be bold about it. There are not a lot of examples of that in pop culture. I’m happy to fill that role. “But I did an interview the other day and every question was a sensationalized question about being gay and the gay lifestyle. There’s a fine line,” he continued. “As open as I am to mentioning it, I’m not a gay spokesman. I’m a singer. I’m an entertainer who happens to be gay. I’m going to work hard with the next album to make that the message. When the first line is ‘Openly gay singer Adam Lambert …’ it gets a little frustrating. The singer part should definitely come first. That’s what I do.” Related Photos Adam Lambert’s Wild “American Idol” Journey Related Artists Adam Lambert Madonna Lady Gaga
