Miley Cyrus Says Liam Hemsworth Inspired ‘A Lot’ Of Can’t Be Tamed

‘All of them are about him in a way, but it’s also about past relationships,’ she tells MTV News of her boyfriend. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Miley Cyrus has made no secret of the fact that she’s smitten with her boyfriend of more than a year, Liam Hemsworth . So it’s probably not surprising that the singer says being in a relationship with her “The Last Song” co-star had a real impact on her latest album, Can’t Be Tamed, a dance-friendly LP that arrived Monday. “There are a lot of songs that are about Liam,” Cyrus revealed to MTV News. “I tell him every one’s about him,” she joked. But the pop star also admitted that not all the songs are about the actor; fans might also hear lyrics that reference exes like Nick Jonas or Justin Gaston. “All of them are about him in a way, but it’s also about past relationships that you gotta get over and move on and just about freeing yourself from anything that you feel holds you back,” she explained. “Just let go of anything that’s not going to help you in your future and … always keep going forward.” While it might not be entirely clear which songs off Can’t Be Tamed are about him, Hemsworth, Cyrus said, has some favorite tunes. “He likes ‘Permanent December,’ I think a lot, but only because it says Australia and he’s Australian, so he likes that it says that,” she smiled. “And he loves ‘Tamed.’ He’s trying to make me teach him the dance, but I refuse to do it.” Do you have a favorite song on Miley’s album yet? Eminem Plays Surprise Set At Red Bull EmSee Contest In New York

Em took the Bowery Ballroom stage for three songs during Road to 8 Mile rap battle. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem (file) Photo: Chelsea Lauren/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Looks like the Jimmy B-Rabbit inside of Eminem is still alive. The Detroit rapper seemed to channel the scrappy character he played in his breakout movie role early Tuesday morning (June 22) as he took to the stage for a surprise performance during the Red Bull EmSee : The Road to 8 Mile freestyle rap battle. Just hours earlier, he had been on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater for a taping of Jay-Z’s appearance on the “Late Show With David Letterman.” Decked out in jeans, a white T-shirt, black, zip-up hoodie and black military cap, Em hit the stage shortly after midnight with a burst of furious rhymes. The Shady One delivered a rapid succession of rhymes to Drake’s “Over” before the DJ, the Alchemist, flipped the record to Lloyd Banks’ “Beamer, Benz or Bentley.” The intimate audience at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom — a space with a capacity of under 600 — were cheering wildly for Em and D-12’s Mr. Porter. Eminem quickly segued into “On Fire” and “Won’t Back Down,” from his new album, Recovery, which dropped on Monday. On the latter (without collaborator Pink), he was particularly energetic, delivering the rousing lyrics with added urgency. “Listen, garden tool/ Don’t make me introduce you to my power tool/ You know the f—ing drill,” Em rapped. “How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” After the third song, Eminem ended his brief set and directly addressed the crowd, hinting that their support was what carried him through recovery from his well-documented drug dependency. “New York, on some real sh–, we didn’t get time to rehearse this, but we wanted to come out for y’all,” he said. “If it wasn’t for y’all, I wouldn’t even be here. Thank you to each and every one of y’all. We love you. Peace.” Chants of “encore” soon filled the venue, but the rapper was gone. “Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Redbull EmSee battle,” he tweeted later. “I appreciate all the love New York. Yes, I’m really typing this.” Prior to Eminem’s set, underground supergroup Slaughterhouse performed. Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I all drew cheers with their various slick rhymes. Royce, a fellow Detroit MC and longtime Em affiliate, spoke to the crowd about the collective’s ongoing negotiations with Shady Records, where the four hope to sign after releasing last summer’s group debut via E1 Entertainment. “It’s Shady for life,” he told the crowd. The event was hosted by Shade 45 morning-show host Angela Yee and D.R.E.S. Tha Beatnik. The night featured a three-round battle, judged by producers Just Blaze and the Alchemist, along with legendary freestyle rapper Craig G. Rapper DNA scored the biggest reaction from the crowd with his boastful rhymes and eventually earned the win. The winners of Red Bull EmSee contests across the country will battle at the finals in Detroit, where Em himself made his name as a lyrical mudslinger. Have you been at one of Em’s recent appearances? Where would you like to see Eminem pop up next? Let us know in the comments. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Eminem Related Artists Eminem

Jay-Z, Eminem Perform On Roof Of ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ Building

Show was relocated after Jay-Z’s plan to play on the famous marquee of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater was scrapped. By Kyle Anderson Eminem and Jay-Z perform on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York on Monday Photo: CBS If there’s one thing that is true in the music world, it’s that you should never bet against Jay-Z . Last week, the veteran rapper had plans to perform a surprise live set on the marquee of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater, the home of the “Late Show With David Letterman.” But when word leaked of the surprise show, the whole plan was iced over concerns about crowd safety and logistics. On Monday, Jay performed anyway . Flanked by Eminem (who played a surprise show of his own later at Bowery Ballroom ), Jigga took to the roof of the building housing the Ed Sullivan Theater and ripped off a performance for about 100 hard-core fans who earned the right to see the pair live by winning contests on Facebook and Twitter, according to the New York Post. The pair did not need a permit for the show because the roof of the building is technically private property. Though some of the show was audible to the surrounding neighborhood, the performance was invisible to anybody walking by. The duo’s performance will air on this Friday’s episode of the “Late Show With David Letterman” and will promote the pair of upcoming shows the rappers will co-headline at the end of the summer. There will be one show in each of Jay-Z’s and Eminem’s hometowns, New York and Detroit . The pair will play Comerica Park in Detroit (home of the Detroit Tigers) on September 2 and then appear at Yankee Stadium on September 13. Fat Joe Denies Sexual-Assault Claims

Rapper’s lawyer says woman making claims ‘posed as a fan’ and then made ‘false allegations.’ By Gil Kaufman Fat Joe Photo: Carlos Marino/ Getty Images A lawyer for rapper Fat Joe vehemently denied allegations by a Wisconsin woman who claimed she was a victim of sexual assault in the MC’s limousine on Sunday night. “Rapper Joseph Cartagena, known as Fat Joe, members of his entourage and security staff were briefly questioned by members of the Madison, Wisconsin, Police Department who were investigating false allegations made by a woman who initially posed as a fan and later claimed to be the victim of an assault after demanding money,” Joe’s lawyer, Dawn Florio, wrote in a statement, which was called “Groupie Pretender Targets Rapper for Shakedown.” The statement continues, “At no point did Mr. Cartagena or any member of his entourage assault or have any improper contact with the woman. It is truly unfortunate that false allegations such as these cause the public to doubt the claims of actual victims of sexual assaults.” Police are still investigating the claims made by an unnamed local 33-year-old woman who called police around 12:46 a.m. Monday to report the alleged incident. Joe was in town on Sunday night to perform a gig at the Orpheum Theater. The woman claimed that after the concert, she was invited to ride in the rapper’s Cadillac limousine with his entourage on the way to their hotel, according to an incident report from the Madison PD. She claimed that she was inappropriately touched while riding in the limo. Joe was detained for questioning, along with other unidentified members of his crew, but was not arrested, and he was released early Monday morning. No arrests have been made so far in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. A spokesperson for the Madison Police Department said the alleged victim was scheduled to be interviewed a second time by police on Tuesday (June 22) but that no other information was available on the case at press time. Lady Gaga Opens Up About Her Health Issues In Rolling Stone

‘I make much more of an effort now to minimize the drama or the stress,’ she says of lupus running in her family. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga on the July 2010 issue of Rolling Stone Photo: Rolling Stone Earlier this month, Lady Gaga frightened fans when she revealed to Larry King that she had been tested for lupus and that results had shown she was “borderline positive” for the disease. “Lupus is in my family and it’s genetic, and it’s funny, ’cause my mother told me the other day that my fans were quite worried about me, because I did talk about the fact that I was tested for lupus,” Gaga told King. “And the truth is, I don’t show any signs, any symptoms of lupus, but I have tested borderline positive for the disease. So as of right now, I don’t have it. But I do have to take good care of myself.” And in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine — which hits newsstands Friday — Gaga expounds even further on her condition, telling writer Neil Strauss that she doesn’t want her fans to worry about the disease and that she’s already taking steps to ensure she’ll remain healthy in the midst of her seemingly endless world tour. “It’s more making sure that I reduce stress in my life to make sure I don’t develop [the disease],” she said. “I make much more of an effort now to minimize the drama or the stress. … I take care of myself. I drink and still live my life, but I could never let my fans down. That would kill me to have to face that extra obstacle every day to get onstage. It’s completely terrifying, so I’m just really focused on mind, body and soul.” Gaga also said that, though she’s been tested for lupus, she’s not interested in following doctor’s orders when it comes to preventing the disease. Rather, since lupus is thought to be hereditary, she’s sought the advice of her family on how to live. “It’s in my family, so I don’t really listen to doctors very much when it comes to it, because it’s so personal,” she said. “I talk to people that I know that have it or my father, whose sister died from it. There’s nothing to worry about, but I do get very tired sometimes, and I naturally wonder [about the disease].” And to that end, Gaga admitted to Strauss that she does worry sometimes about the effect her schedule (and her fame) has on her health but that she continues to press on, no matter what those closest to her may be saying. “I don’t want to be [a hypochondriac], so most of the time, I’m like, ‘F— it, I’m fine,’ ” Gaga told Strauss. “At a certain point, you’re so beyond the point of exhaustion that you don’t know: Do I have a health problem that may or may not be real, or am I just really tired?” Are you worried about Gaga’s well-being? Miley Cyrus Fans Loved Seeing Her ‘Edgier’ At Live-Stream Show

‘It’s really showing her personality break from Disney,’ fan says after Can’t Be Tamed concert. By Joel Hanek Miley Cyrus performs during her Live-Stream on Monday Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Miley Cyrus took over the Internet on Monday night, when MTV live-streamed her live performance of six songs from her new album, Can’t Be Tamed. And though the 17-year-old has been showing off her edgier look and sound, the crowd at Los Angeles’ House of Blues remain stalwart in their fandom. Kelly Rindonde, a fan who traveled all the way from Philadelphia for the show, is enjoying the new Cyrus. “She’s all grown up,” she told MTV News after the show. “She definitely gave us a new side of Miley that was really exciting.” “I like all her new music; it’s really a bit edgier,” Steven Mango agreed. “It’s really showing her personality break from Disney and everything.” Many fans think that her evolution from Disney princess to pop star is indicative that Miley is isn’t going anywhere soon — and her performance even drew comparisons to other established legends. “Her dancing [is] something Michael Jackson would probably be impressed by,” Alex Satlan observed. Tetris Kelly said Cyrus’ performance was reminiscent of another contemporary artist, particularly during a cover that wasn’t aired in the live stream. “By far my favorite moment of the show tonight was when she did ‘I Love Rock ‘n Roll,’ because, to me, it was a tip off to Britney … and that’s why I like Miley. She’s like the new age Britney.” While Miley may be following in Britney’s footsteps by sharing onstage kisses with her fellow female and male dancers, other fans were pleasantly surprised that the singer was not completely uninhibited. “We expected something that was going to be raunchy,” Pam Giannino said. “Everybody’s been putting the hype up, ‘Don’t go to this because she’s going to be provocative.’ It wasn’t. It was pretty awesome. She did a really good job.” What did you think of Miley’s performance on Monday? Share your reviews in the comments. Lil Boosie Could Face Further Charges Following Murder Indictment

Baton Rouge DA says rapper is under investigation for five other killings. By Gil Kaufman Lil Boosie Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images In addition to an indictment on first-degree murder charges handed down by a grand jury on Thursday, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) could be facing additional murder counts based on an ongoing police investigation into five unsolved killings in the area. According to The Advocate, Thursday’s indictment — which stemmed from an incident in October that left 35-year-old Terry Boyd dead after two men fired shots through a window in his home — is part of what prosecutors are calling a murder-for-hire case. East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III told the paper that investigators are looking into whether Boosie, 27, and others are involved in at least five other killings in the area since early last year. “We’re investigating the others in a similar fashion,” Moore said. “We are investigating the common pattern of these killings and money.” Boosie, already imprisoned since November for a probation violation, was also indicted on Thursday on multiple drug-possession charges and for an alleged scheme to smuggle illicit substances into the jail where he is being held. The Advocate reported that Boosie; girlfriend Walnita Decuir, 25; former correctional officer Joshua Wilson, 27, and fellow inmate Stacey Riley, 36, were all indicted on charges that they conspired to smuggle contraband, which included drugs such as codeine, marijuana, ecstasy and synthetic marijuana — into Dixon Correctional Institute, where Boosie is being held. Boosie is not entitled to post bond on the first-degree murder charge and will remain incarcerated while that case moves forward. Moore declined to say how much money Boosie allegedly paid to have Boyd killed, who pulled the trigger or why Boyd was targeted. Two other men, Michael Louding and Adrian Pittman, were also indicted on similar charges earlier this month in connection with Boyd’s killing. In total, investigators are looking at six slayings over a 14-month period, from the February 9, 2009, shooting death of local rapper Chris “Nussie” Jackson to an April 1 double-murder of two local men. In September, Boosie pleaded guilty to a third-offense marijuana possession charge and under a plea deal a judge was expected to sentence him to 10 years in prison with all but the first two years suspended, which would mean he’d be eligible for parole in one year. But after Boosie violated the terms of the deal in November by leaving his house during confinement, the judge doubled the term. Now, Moore told the paper, he is going to ask the judge to revoke the deal and resentence Boosie to the original 10-year term. A district attorney said the death penalty was not out of the question for Boosie in the murder case. A spokesperson for the rapper could not be reached for comment at press time. ‘The Killer Inside Me’: Cold Case, By Kurt Loder

Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba in a world beyond noir. Casey Affleck and Kate Hudson in “The Killer Inside Me” Photo: IFC Films Film noir has always been a nasty business, concerned as it is with obsession, betrayal, fate and murder. . In the golden age of noir, the 1940s and ’50s, the genre’s more rousing indelicacies had to be at least somewhat muted with euphemism and pictorial shorthand. But that sort of restraint is long gone, and now comes “The Killer Inside Me,” which might be the most graphically nasty noir ever made. In its blunt brutality, the movie seeks to be true to its source, Jim Thompson’s hardboiled 1952 novel (still a savage read). The protagonist is Lou Ford (Casey Affleck), a small-town lawman in late ’50s Texas. On the outside, Lou is a baby-faced straight arrow, polite and smiling and ready to kill any conversation with his witless chitchat. (“You know, they say haste makes waste.”) But Lou actually isn’t the dullard everyone assumes him to be. At home, in the big house he inherited from his father, he reads books, listens to opera, plays the piano and muses nostalgically over old porn photos. His exhausting small talk is simply a means of needling people he doesn’t like. Which would be everybody. Because deep inside, Lou is really a homicidal sociopath — the sort of criminal degenerate he’s nominally paid to put away. “The trouble with growing up in a small town,” he says early on, “is that everybody thinks they know who you are.” Nobody knows Lou Ford. Nobody still living, anyway. With its conniving characters and their small-time dreams, the story is purest noir. When the son of a local big shot becomes involved with a prostitute named Joyce Lakeland (Jessica Alba), Lou is assigned to chase her out of town. When Joyce proves defiant, Lou becomes aroused. He whips off his belt — and she becomes aroused. Soon Lou is stopping by for regular S&M sessions, and storm clouds begin to gather. Lou finds it imperative to commit a double homicide. He has rigged up an alibi, but the town union boss (Elias Koteas) — who knows a lot about Lou’s twisted past — and a newly arrived federal agent (Simon Baker) are both suspicious. Lou has to continue stacking up corpses in order to keep himself in the clear and his apple-pie sweetheart (Kate Hudson) in the dark. The movie is powerful (and muddled at the end), but the cast is the main reason to see it. Casey Affleck, with his air of whispery innocence, seems an unlikely choice to play the monstrous Ford; but he turns out to be perfect — coming from such an artfully recessive actor, Lou’s flaring rages are a shock; and Affleck’s soulless voice-overs lay bare the character’s interior rot. Alba and Hudson are both startlingly good too. Alba ventures beyond her normal range in playing a doomed slut with a heart of fool’s gold; and Hudson, a brunette here, is completely convincing as a ’50s good girl with gamey inclinations. (The scene in which she detects olfactory evidence that Lou has had sex with Joyce has to be some kind of first for such a star-powered production.) Director Michael Winterbottom has said that in bringing “The Killer Inside Me” to the screen, he wanted to bring with it the full lacerating violence of Jim Thompson’s novel. But violence on the page and violence in your face are of course two different things, and the ferocious beatings we watch being administered to some of the women in this film might have given pause to Thompson himself. The movie’s sadism certainly pushes the envelope, but who does the director intend to mail it to? (Dozens of people reportedly walked out of a screening of the picture at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.) The film’s pulped flesh and puddling blood break the noir spell — they leave us nothing to imagine. There’s no resonance, only impact. The murky moral depths of the film-noir world drain away under the movie’s merciless illumination. Miley Cyrus, Bret Michaels Perform ‘Every Rose’ For ‘Good Morning America’

‘It’s my mom’s favorite song,’ Cyrus says of the Poison classic. By Jocelyn Vena Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus perform on “Good Morning America” Photo: ABC Miley Cyrus has declared that she Can’t Be Tamed, and neither, apparently, can her devoted fans, who couldn’t keep their excitement contained as they stormed Central Park in New York City to see Cyrus perform several songs for her appearance on “Good Morning America” on Friday (June 18). But, it wasn’t just Cyrus who got the crowd going, she was also joined by her pal and collaborator Bret Michaels . Cyrus, who will also perform Can’t Be Tamed songs for a concert being live-streamed by MTV on Monday, addressed some recent criticism she’s received for her more mature look and sound. “It’s always going to be hard [to grow up in public], because there’s so much stuff you have to get through in order to get to the stuff that’s real,” she explained. “You have to get through all the people that are ‘yes’ people and get to the people that are real. There are people who are negative just to be that way.” Meanwhile, Michaels gave an update on his health , joking that he just really wanted to hit the stage with Cyrus. “For me and I say this again, I feel blessed because I’m one of the 20 percent [to survive]. It was a scary few days. It’s a nice feeling to know I survived,” he said. “I figure I’m losing organs so fast, I’d better get out there really quick.” Then Cyrus did her thing. In super-skinny black jeans, a David Bowie T-shirt, a studded leather jacket and a group of writhing backup dancers, Miley kicked off her set with her new single, “Can’t Be Tamed.” “This record is completely me, completely what I wanted to say,” she said about the album’s sound. “There’s something about the pop rock sound that’s fun to perform live.” Then Cyrus slowed it down and was joined by Michaels to perform her cover of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” which she recorded for her new album. Bret not only lent his guitar skills to the track, but he also sang with her on the song. “It’s my mom’s favorite song, so I got un-grounded by doing this song,” she laughed. “I try and put a touch of my family on each of my albums.” Her final song of the morning was her undeniable fan favorite “Party in the USA,” during which she changed the lyrics about a Jay-Z song to a “Michael song,” perhaps as a nod to the late King of Pop who died a year ago next Friday. Drake Shows ‘Vulnerable’ Side In Documentary, Hip-Hop Experts Say

‘Drake: Better Than Good Enough’ airs Wednesday, June 23, at 10 p.m. on MTV. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: MTV News An early cut of the documentary “Drake: Better Than Good Enough,” airing Wednesday at 10 p.m. on MTV, was screened for hip-hop journalists Thursday (June 17) at the MTV offices. The doc — which is still being shot — follows Drake on his Away From Home Tour, but also shows intimate moments with his family, vocal coach and inner circle and the recording of his just-released debut, Thank Me Later. In the footage, we see Drizzy recording the song “Show Me a Good Time” and learn why Drake only writes his rhymes on a BlackBerry, among other intimate moments. “What was interesting is that I didn’t know Drake’s mom was sick,” The Source Executive Editor Amy Andrieux said shortly after the screening. “To see him going into his grind — knowing that now — is incredible. I know family is important to a lot of artists, but a lot of people don’t realize how much effort you have to put in these days. I think that was the most prominent thing about the entire documentary from what we saw. As a rapper, yeah, there’s a certain amount of grind you have to do. There’s constant effort. But it doesn’t mean you’re nice [on the mic], you’re dope. But Drake is doing whatever it takes to be that and to maintain his grind. That was really interesting to see it in film, ’cause you don’t see that.” “The most revealing parts of the clips that we saw from the Drake special are the ones he didn’t necessarily mean to be revealing,” multimedia personality Miss Info said. “Personally, I think he’s a professional, and I think there are no real candid moments with him. I think he’s aware of what’s going on and what he’s going to keep to himself. The revealing parts to me were the little observations that this guy, rather than having a million weed carriers, a bunch of groupies alongside while he performs, he had his vocal coach there. He’s taking vocal lessons in his tour bus. He’s wearing Debussy T-shirts, a classical composer. Those are the things to me that stood out. Rather than the ‘I’m truly happy to be here, and I hope this moment lasts forever.’ ” ThisIs50.com’s Jeremy Bettis said he was also surprised to see Drake and his coach. “The part that I liked the most [in the documentary] was the part seeing him training with his vocal coach,” Bettis said. “That’s the vulnerable part a lot of artists don’t want to show. But to see that he actually puts work in and he knows that he can better himself, that was the dopest part I’ve seen. His work ethic is crazy. It shows with the records he puts out, the videos he puts out, the performances. He was at Summer Jam one day, flew out the same to go to London to do a show. It shows the work. “I think it’s Drake’s consistency,” Bettis added about what makes the 23-year-old such a bankable superstar already. “He makes good records. He’s got a great team around him, obviously, great influences: the Jay-Zs, Kanyes, the Waynes. He knows what he’s doing. He’s not the average dumb artist just throwing out records. He has a plan, and he’s following that plan.” What behind-the-scenes footage are you looking forward to in the upcoming documentary? Let us know in the comments!
