Lil Wayne Fans Like ‘I’m Single’ Video’s ‘Gritty’ Feel

‘That’s part of the reason most people like Lil Wayne, is the realness he brings to the game,’ one fan tells MTV News. By Steven Roberts Lil Wayne in the video for “I’m Single” Photo: Nino Brown NEW YORK — Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video, directed by Wayne’s resident videographer, DJ Scoob Doo, debuted Sunday, and it focuses on the love triangle between Wayne, his wife and his side chick . A bulk of the video features behind-the-scenes footage of Wayne shot before he began his one-year sentence for gun possession. Last week, fans out in Times Square applauded Wayne’s pre-prison planning , saying the video left them hungry for more. On Monday, MTV News hit Times Square again to get people’s reactions now that the video has premiered. “It looks real,” Robert McKutian told us. “It looks gritty. It looks like something he would’ve made himself, and that’s part of the reason most people like Lil Wayne, is the realness he brings to the game.” “It’s definitely keeping his name out there,” he added. “It’s definitely going to keep people talking about him, so that he’s not forgotten by the time he gets out.” Other fans thought it was a little different from what Lil Wayne normally does. Kenya Montasiz said Weezy’s videos are typically more involved, but he liked that this video was more stripped-down. “It’s like the bottle without the brown paper bag,” Montasiz said. “I think an artist needs to evolve. I think he’s definitely evolving. He’s definitely growing into his own. You can’t do the same thing all of the time.” Other people agreed that the minimalist video is a move in the right direction. Brianna Lee said the change can definitely be beneficial because it’s more personable. “Personally, I think that’s a much better decision, because it allows you to focus on the music, which I’m a bigger fan of, as opposed to the video,” she said. B.o.B’s ‘Airplanes, Part 2,’ Featuring Eminem And Hayley Williams, Hits The Net

‘Since the album is leaking, I want this one to come from ME,’ B.o.B tweets about posting song. By Steven Roberts B.o.B Photo: MTV News There’s been much hype surrounding B.o.B’s debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which is slated to drop April 27. The album’s lead single and surprise hit, “Nothin’ on You,” featuring Bruno Mars, currently sits at #1 on iTunes’ songs chart . But once the album’s track listing was released, anticipation began to grow even more, thanks in large part to the Eminem feature on “Airplanes Part II.” B.o.B decided to unleash the track Monday afternoon (April 19) via his website , and it lives up expectations. The song features Em spitting another song-stealing verse, rapping hypothetically about what could have been failed opportunities. “Let’s pretend Marshal Mathers never picked up a pen/ Let’s pretend things would’ve been no different/ Pretend he procrastinated, had no motivation, pretend he just made excuses that were so paper thin.” Em continues, listing off scenes from his now-famous narrative of a tortured childhood and his tumultuous relationship with his mother. “Now pretend they ain’t just make him angry with this sh–/ And there was no one he could even aim [at] when he’s pissed at/ And his alarm went off to wake him, but he didn’t make it to the Rap Olympics/ Slept through his plane and he missed/ He’s going to have a hard time explaining to Hailey and Laney this food stamps and this WIC sh–/ Because he never risked sh–/ He hoped and he wished it.” The retrospective track also features Paramore’s Hayley Williams on the hook , who was as surprised as anyone by the Eminem collaboration. “I only found out about Eminem getting on the track like a month ago,” she told MTV News. “As if the song couldn’t get any better. He just slays me, he’s such a genius.” B.o.B told MTV News last week that it was a gift to work with one of his heroes. He said Em’s manager Paul Rosenberg grabbed Slim Shady’s attention with B.o.B’s first mixtape, Cloud 9, and he kept Em abreast of B.o.B’s work. He tweeted Monday that he wanted to share the song first, since his album was leaking. “Since the album is leaking … I want this one to come from ME. Hear ‘Airplanes Pt. 2’ ft. EMINEM & Hayley Williams of Paramore.” Related Artists Eminem Paramore B.o.B

Mo’Nique’s Brother Admits Molestation To Oprah

‘I’m humbly sorry that those actions had taken place,’ Gerald Imes says of abusing his sister as a child. By Jocelyn Vena Mo’Nique Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images While promoting her Oscar-winning turn in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” Mo’Nique admitted that she had been molested by her older brother, Gerald Imes, when she was a child. On Monday (April 19), Imes sat down on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to talk about the incident and apologize to his superstar sister. “I’m here today to first acknowledge that I’ve been in denial for 37 years. … I did assault and inappropriately touch my sister in manners that were uncomfortable for her,” Imes said on the show. “And for that, I apologize and I’m humbly sorry that those actions had taken place.” Imes admitted that the abuse of his younger sister stemmed from his issues with drugs and alcohol. “The drugs weren’t an excuse. They just allowed me and afforded me the opportunity to do the things that were in the back of my mind as a kid that I always wanted to do,” he said. “Most of the time, the abuse that I did with my sister took place while she was asleep [or] the appearance that she was asleep. “I hid my own molestation and pain and guilt and shame, because I thought it was my fault that these things happened to me,” he continued. “So I internalized that, and I hid behind the drugs and alcohol and then that spiraling thing in my mind, as a child, I wanted to express my sexuality, so I took it out on my sister.” For many decades, Imes didn’t own up to his actions. “The hardest part for me was even to admit to her I did something wrong,” he said. “I downplayed it by saying, ‘If you think I did it … .’ There’s no more ‘if you think’ — I did it. I did it. I’m not proud of it. Mo’Nique, I’m sorry. I can only hope that by coming forth today that somewhere along the line with the apology that, yes, hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together. “I’m doing this to apologize to my sister, to hopefully bring back some family unity,” he added. “I’m doing this to publicly acknowledge. Now let’s bring our family back together.” Imes, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for molesting another person, said he also apologized to the other victim. As for Mo’Nique publicly addressing the abuse, he said, “I’m proud that she was able to finally get to a place that she could relinquish her pain. When she made the comment that I was the individual contributing to her role, I had to look at her and say, ‘I really understand her pain.’ ”

Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’: Meet The Women In The Video

Tammy Torres and Mizz Na’Tasha play Weezy’s mistress and wife, respectively. By Shaheem Reid Tammy Torres in Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” Photo: Nino Brown Now that Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video has premiered, people are curious about beauties in the clip vying for his affection. Playing the part of the mistress is model Tammy Torres. Torres, an alum of XXL ‘s Eye Candy section, has also appeared in other magazines, such as Smooth. She’s also appeared in other music videos, but her most popular cameo also comes courtesy of Mr. Weezy via his “Mrs. Officer” clip. Playing the part of Weezy’s wifey in the video is the woman the Twitter nation knows as Mizz Na’Tasha — however, Natasha Salimi said “I’m Single” is her curtain call. She’s retiring from the modeling game and focusing on going to school to study entertainment law. “I used to model. I been in Smooth magazine. My last cover is out right now. I’m in AsIs magazine. I was in ‘Notorious’ the movie. I was in Busta Rhymes’ video for ‘Arab Money.’ But I also work on Wall Street and I go to school. That’s my main focus now. The modeling is cool. … You gotta have a backup plan.” Na’Tasha told us “I’m Single” is actually her favorite record off of the No Ceilings mixtape, and she had a blast going psycho in the clip. “It was fun because I got to act a little crazy, stabbing the cake and throwing stuff,” she said. “Scoob was telling me to try and act as natural as possible and think about if I had something like that that happened in the past,” she explained. ” ‘Let it happen on its own.’ I tried to really put myself in the position of the role I was playing. Everything was laid-back, it was cool. Scoob is a great director. It went by quick. We came up with it as we were acting. I was like, ‘Wait, why don’t I act like I’m stabbing the poster then stab the cake?’ ” Related Artists Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’ Video: Spotting The Pop-Culture References

From ‘New Jack City’ to a real-life conversation with Nicki Minaj, we examine the clip’s influences. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video Photo: Nino Brown/New Line There are quite a few pop-culture references in Lil Wayne’s just-premiered “I’m Single” video . If you missed a few, we’re here to catch you up. The video starts off with a real-life conversation between Wayne and Nicki Minaj about whether he has a girlfriend. The footage was taken a little before Weezy, Nicki and Drake joined Young Jeezy onstage during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour stop at Madison Square Garden in early March. Throughout the video, we see instances where the woman who plays Wayne’s main squeeze in the video, model Natasha, goes a little loony. “I’m Single” director DJ Scoob Doo told MTV News that the woman’s actions in the video were inspired by the 1990 Martin Lawrence film “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.” Natasha’s character even takes a large knife and, after contemplating slicing a promo poster of Weezy, instead takes her frustrations out on a cake. The message on the cake reads “Nino Brown 3,” which is an upcoming DVD collaboration between Wayne and Scoob Doo. The two have previously released the reality DVDs “The Nino Brown Story” and a sequel. Speaking of Nino, Wayne shouts out one of the greatest villains in cinematic history with the line “Had to cancel that bi— like Nino.” That’s a reference to the classic scene in “New Jack City,” when Wesley Snipes’ character Nino Brown casually drops his girlfriend Selina after she complains about his murderous ways. “I’ve seen you kill too many people, Nino,” Selina, played by actress Michael Michele, said in the film. Snipes then throws his girl on the table, pours champagne on her and orders her to be canceled. Undercover cop Scotty Appleton (Ice-T) escorts her out. Also in the song, Weezy raps that his mistress has a deranged desire: “She wish she could cut my d— off and take it with her.” Can anyone say Lorena Bobbitt ? Did we miss any references? In February, at a status hearing stemming from his plea deal for assaulting Rihanna, Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg said Brown was “doing really well” at completing his sentence.
