Nicki Minaj Continues Newsstand Domination With Complex Cover

MC relives her killer year and her ‘quest to stand alone’ in magazine’s 10th anniversary issue. By Nadeska Alexis Nicki Minaj on the cover of Complex Photo: Complex If there was ever any doubt that Nicki Minaj would continue her impressive career sprint in 2012, look no further than the newsstand nearest to you. The Young Money rapper has already covered Paper, New York, Vibe and Allure in the first three months of the year (and she got a feature in Vogue too). And now, she’s on the cover of Complex . Complex unveiled their feature with Minaj on Tuesday (after rolling out Justin Bieber’s story from their April/May double cover on Monday). As to be expected, the 29-year-old rapper is done up in eye-catching colors, sporting a white wig with shades of purple, white and pink lipstick and some added graphics just to push it over the top. The feature backtracks on her astronomical year, which included a Super Bowl performance, a Grammys performance , an OPI nail polish line and a MAC cosmetics deal and looks forward to a coming year that will include a fragrance line, a fashion line and a world tour. “If I wasn’t doing it, I wouldn’t believe it’s possible,” Minaj told the magazine about her success. “I happen to be a pessimist, and maybe that’s a good thing because I don’t stop to smell the roses — which is not a good personal thing. I don’t stop and enjoy those moments. I’m just [snaps fingers] on to the next. Always on to the next and never in the moment.” Despite her catalog of achievements, the Queens rapper says that she’s laser-focused on achieving that much more, especially with her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which is due out on April 3. “Doing the Super Bowl with Madonna doesn’t really change Nicki Minaj’s personal goals,” she says. “My goal right now is still to put out Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, sell 5 million copies eventually, and tour every country in the world.” “I came out with Young Money, the biggest hip-hop label in the world at that time. And then it was, ‘How do I branch away from Lil Wayne?’ ” she continues. “One of my biggest records was with Drake, ‘Moment 4 Life.’ Even with the Super Bowl, it’s Madonna’s moment. I’m just sharing in that moment. It’s not Nicki Minaj’s moment. Nicki Minaj at the Grammys — that’s my moment. I’ve just been constantly on this quest to stand alone.” After dropping Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki will set out on a 15-date European tour , which will kick off in early June. Tyga Associate Honey Cocaine Shot After Nebraska Concert

Toronto MC suffered minor wounds when a van she was traveling in took on gunfire after a show in downtown Omaha. By Rob Markman Honey Cocaine Photo: Taylor Hill/ FilmMagic Tyga ‘s careless world was hit with quite a bit of drama on Monday night following a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha police confirmed with MTV News that two members of Tyga’s entourage were shot and suffered minor wounds when a van that the Young Money rapper was traveling in took on gunfire after his show at the Sokol Auditorium in downtown. Tyga’s artist Honey Cocaine, real name Sochitla Sal, took to Twitter early Tuesday morning (March 20) and confirmed that she was one of the people shot. “Got shot and I’m not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod,” she wrote . The police report confirms that Honey was struck in the arm and was transported to Creighton University Medical Center. The second victim, Derrick Lowe, was grazed in his hip and refused treatment at the scene. The confrontation began while Tyga was onstage getting set to perform his hit single “Rack City,” the last song from his set. A group of concertgoers began to throw things onstage, which seemed to infuriate the rapper. Footage of the incident made its way to YouTube shortly after. In the clip, an enraged Tyga begins shouting, “Who threw it?” before urging the culprit to see him outside after the show. The police report cites a disturbance at the concert hall and states that Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they left the scene in their van. Police observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle, but no one was seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, police say. On February 29, Honey Cocaine joined Tyga when he appeared on ” RapFix Live ” and spit a verse for the camera. The Toronto MC also sat and chopped it up with Sway about her plans for the future with Tyga. “Me, I’m building,” she said. “We’re building together, but we both do our own thing.” Related Artists Tyga

B.o.B Challenges Alter Ego Bobby Ray On Strange Clouds Single

On ‘Where Are You,’ B.o.B laments the effects of fame on his personality and relationships. By Rob Markman B.o.B’s Strange Clouds Photo: Atlantic Fame sure has a way of changing people, and on his new single, Bobby Ray and his alter ego B.o.B duke it out for four-and-a-half minutes. “Where Are You (B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray)” opens with a lush piano melody, which builds and gives way into spacey synth sounds, a doo-wop-inspired background melody and a pounding bass drum. With the beat in full swing, B.o.B wastes no time confronting his issues when he raps, “Whatever happened to Bobby Ray? He used to be here for us/ Then he got famous and left all his fans in the dust.” B.o.B continues to rhyme in third person, lamenting on the changes that fame brings. World tours and taxing studio sessions have clearly affected Bob’s relationship with his family and his fans, whom he now seems distant from. “I never thought you would sell out, you’re becoming so cocky/ I asked you for a picture after your show, you walked right by me,” he raps before referencing fan-favorite songs like “Cloud 9” and “Generation Lost.” The internal conflict that B.o.B presents is similar to the one that his Grand Hustle CEO T.I. rapped about on his 2003 cut “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” T.I.’s track, however, centers on the tumultuous street life he once lived before his rise as a rap star. Sonically, B.o.B’s selection, which will appear on his upcoming May 1 album, Strange Clouds, comes off as an endearing self-reflection. Ultimately it proves that the rap star can’t be too far gone if he realizes where he has gone wrong. The song release comes just a day after Bob’s label revealed the cover art for his Strange Clouds LP. The album art shows Bobby Ray in a chic peacoat holding his temples while standing under a hovering cloud. Then, to drum up even more excitement, Warner Music Group will be premiering the video for B.o.B’s “So Good” single Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET. What do you think of “Where Are You (B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray)”? Lana Del Rey Announces L.A. And NYC Residencies

Controversial singer to play three shows apiece at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre and New York’s Irving Plaza in June. By Kara Warner Lana Del Rey Photo: Michael Kovac/ WireImage Now that we’ve had some time to watch Lana Del Rey ‘s “Blue Jeans” video from the comfort of our computers, it’s time to prepare to see the songbird live in concert. Del Rey announced Tuesday (March 20) that over the first 10 days in June, she will be playing a series of concerts in New York and L.A. Tickets for the three New York shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. ET, and tickets for the trio of L.A. concerts go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. Del Rey will play the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles June 3-5 and will set up shop in New York from June 7-9 at Irving Plaza. The “Video Games” singer’s recent rise to fame has been fraught with soap-opera-esque plotlines. First there was the hype about her Born to Die album, then there was an equally hyped performance on “Saturday Night Live,” the fallout from which resulted in a particularly negative wave of publicity from her very vocal detractors . That led to a cooling-off period that included rumors that Del Rey’s management had to postpone a scheduled tour . Now it seems as though the singer is back on track with promoting her old-school, sultry sound, as demonstrated in the retro theme of the just-released black-and-white clip for “Blue Jeans.” Del Rey’s residency announcement reflects the very specific touring plans she teased to MTV News back in February. “I’m capping every venue at 900 [capacity], because I don’t want to perform for more [people] than that,” she said. “So what I want to do is three nights in New York, like at Irving Plaza, and then three nights at the El Rey in L.A. and then, in between, do 15 cities, and cap it at 900 venues. And everybody is onboard, so that’s what we’re going to do.” Will you check out Lana’s L.A. or New York shows? Let us know in the comments! Madonna Owns ‘Girl Gone Wild’ Title In New Video

Queen of Pop pays homage to her Erotica days with saucy black-and-white clip for second MDNA single. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna in her “Girl Gone Wild” video Photo: Warner Bros While Madonna favored vintage, kitschy, colorful images for her “Give Me All Your Luvin” video , the Queen of Pop opted for black-and-white sex for her just-released “Girl Gone Wild” clip . Shot by fashion photographers Mert and Marcus (who also did the album’s more multihued artwork), the video was the perfect homage to the singer’s foxy “Sex” book and Erotica days of the ’90s. Crunchy, sexy and edgy, the “GGW” clip is certainly the perfect response for anyone yearning for that Madge of yesteryear. Twenty years after Madonna had conservative-minded folks worried about her sexy influence over pop culture, the singer can still make us want her and whatever brand of sex she’s selling. Pleather, whips, chains and same-sex action define the images in the saucy clip. While “Give Me” featured pals Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., the only “Girl” in this video is Madge, who gets raunchy with a number of male dancers. The video opens with Madonna in full glamour mode (big hair and diva makeup) declaring how she wants to be good but just can’t fight the bad. We mean, who could blame her with all that eye candy around? Spastic shots of her doing yoga are intercut with ones of her dancing around and sexy male dancers posing with one another (and sharing an apple in a way we haven’t seen before). The video also features an electrifying dance sequence, with men in tights and heels, really calling attention to Madonna’s never-ending need to create memorable images. It’s clear this girl wants to have fun and she wants to be licked, kissed and grinded on by hot dudes. This is Madonna, so fans shouldn’t be surprised that she’s favoring erotic scenes in which she mugs for the camera with beefy guys all over her. Eventually, Madge proves she’s still got the moves when she joins the dancers for another choreographed sequence. As the video continues to show the singer and her dancers just being attractive with one another, the final shot is a close-up of Madonna, crying thick, black tears, proving that wild girls are saddest when the party is over. Mert and Marcus are best known for their work as fashion photographers, and that influence is certainly felt in this video. It plays out as if it’s a series of shots in a fashion magazine. MDNA, the singer’s 12th studio album, is set for release on Monday. “GGW” is the second single from it. What did you think of Madonna’s new video? Let us know in the comments! Kim Kardashian Shoots Down Kanye West, Baby Rumors

‘We’ve been friends for years,’ Kim tells Ryan Seacrest of talk that she’s dating the rapper. By Christina Garibaldi Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images These days, it seems that wherever Kim Kardashian goes, the rumors and drama follow. The E! reality star recently found herself feuding with Jon Hamm after the “Mad Men” star made some negative comments about her in an interview with Elle UK. On Tuesday (March 20), Kardashian addressed the actor’s comments and more during a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest. “I just feel like, to be honest, it’s all about trying to stay focused and keep everything positive,” she said about wanting to move on from the Hamm story.”It really takes a lot more energy and effort to be harsh than to say something nice and be positive.” But that wasn’t the only issue that Kardashian said she wanted to put to rest once and for all. After appearing at Kanye West ‘s Paris Fashion Show , some speculated that the pair were rekindling their rumored onetime romance , even saying these two were headed down the aisle. “I think I’m still married,” Kardashian responded, laughing off the rumor. “We’ve been friends for years. It’s so funny, you take a picture with someone, you support them. You know, he supported me at my Dash opening in New York. We just support each other; that’s what friends do.” Kardashian also revealed she’s in no rush to get back into the dating game since filing for divorce from her husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries . “You know, I’m really not dating right now at all. I’m really just focusing on work. I know I always say this, but I’m just trying to get through my situation and just have fun.” For now, Kim is busy helping big sister Kourtney get ready for baby #2 , due later this spring.”She’s so tiny, she’s so cute pregnant,” Kardashian said of her sister. “I am obsessed with Mason,” she added about Kourtney and her boyfriend Scott Disick’s son. “I can’t wait to meet the baby girl. I can only imagine how they are going to dress her. … They just make really cute babies.” And what about those rumors that Kim might be adopting a baby of her own? “No, I don’t even know where that came from, but what’s so crazy is the magazines can easily call and ask and we would say ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ ” she told Seacrest. “But that’s not true. “I’ve heard so many ridiculous things and to be honest, I used to read all the magazines and watch things. I don’t even look at any of that anymore. I’ve taken my Google alerts off my phone!” Related Artists Kanye West

Tyler, the Creator and company will probably run amok on ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Odd Future Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Call security and alert the censors, because Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All will invade “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. Tyler, the Creator , Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo Genesis, Mike G., Syd tha Kid, Matt Martians, Jasper Dolphin, Taco and Earl Sweatshirt will all camp out on the “RapFix” couch for a rare interview. The group broke through in February 2011, when Tyler and Hodgy famously performed their single “Sandwitches” on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and have been on a meteoric rise ever since. Sadly, Earl Sweatshirt , who helped lay the groundwork for the group, wasn’t around to experience it. The then-exiled teen was sent to an all-boys military school in Samoa, but now Earl is back home and will be on “RapFix Live.” On Tuesday (March 20), the squad is releasing The OF Tape, Vol. 2 on their own Odd Future Records. The video for the LP’s first single, “Rella,” already has already amassed more than 9 million views in a month on YouTube and features Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis and Tyler running amok and terrorizing residents in a suburban community. The Tape ‘s second video, for “NY (Ned Flander),” is just as zany, with Tyler appearing as a rapping baby. While Tyler is without a doubt the most popular of the crew, each member has either a solo project or off-shoot group projects in the works. Hodgy Beats and Left Brain for MellowHype and are prepping their upcoming album Numbers, while Syd Tha Kid and Matt Martians released their Purple Naked Ladies album in December under the moniker the Internet. Domo Genesis, Mike G and OF singer/songwriter Frank Ocean all have upcoming projects in the works. Adele Passes Pink Floyd On List Of Best-Selling British Albums

21 has moved past Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon to take #7 spot on the list. By Gil Kaufman Adele’s 21 Photo: Columbia Records Adele just keeps rolling up records. The singer’s sophomore album, 21, may finally have lost its perch at the top of the U.S. albums chart, but its continued strong sales in England have helped catapult it above one of the all-time greats on the list of the U.K.’s best-selling albums in history. According to the Official Charts Company , after recently moving ahead of Michael Jackson’s Bad, Adele scooted up another notch on the U.K. list when 21 jumped up to #7, passing Pink Floyd’s 1973 prog rock masterpiece, The Dark Side of the Moon. To date, 21 has sold 4.14 million copies in the U.K., putting it within spitting distance of the #6 album, Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms, which is just 12,000 copies ahead. Adele is moving units so fast that the Official Charts Company speculated that she could overtake Straits by week’s end. At that point, though, she could run into some trouble challenging the top five sellers, which have remained virtually untouchable for more than a decade. Queen’s Greatest Hits, which has sold 5.83 million, is #1 on the list, with the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band just behind at #2 with sales of 5.04 million. At#3 is Abba’s Gold (4.99 million), followed by Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (4.52 million) and Jackson’s Thriller (4.27 million). NME reported that Adele’s 21 and her debut, 19, also helped British artists snag their biggest share of U.S. album sales in a decade. With combined sales of more than 6.65 million, Adele, along with Mumford and Sons (1.4 million), and several others helped account for an 11.7 percent share of all albums sold in the U.S. in 2011. Also helping to goose that figure were albums by Coldplay and Florence and the Machine. Related Artists Adele Pink Floyd

Justin Bieber Takes A Few Punches For Complex

‘I feel like it’s my responsibility to be the greatest I can be,’ he says in the magazine’s April/May issue. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the cover of Complex magazine Photo: Complex Justin Bieber appears bloodied and beat up on the cover of Complex magazine, and it’s a far cry from the Biebs’ well-groomed image. Inside the April/May issue, the 18-year-old opens up about his childhood and his very public relationship with girlfriend Selena Gomez. He also discusses his upcoming album, Believe, pledging that it’s “go big or go home” once it drops later this year. “I feel like it’s my responsibility to be the greatest I can be,” the magazine cover boy says. “If I start making terrible music, I don’t expect people to like me. If I’m making great music and there’s no reason for people to dislike me, that’s when it’s going to make me upset. People just need to take a chance and listen. If they don’t want to take a chance, then I don’t know. That’s going to be the biggest problem: to make them feel like it’s cool for them to like my music.” Bieber hopes the new album will show his growth. It will include a number of collaborators, including Mike Posner, who produced lead single “Boyfriend,” set for release on March 26. “I just rap for fun; it’s nothing to take seriously,” he admits. “On my new album, I’m going to do a little bit of rapping,” he adds before giving a preview of a few lines from “Boyfriend.” “Tell me what you like, dear/ Tell me what you don’t/ I could be your Buzz Lightyear/ Fly across the globe/ You don’t even need to fight, dear/ You already know/ I can make you shine bright/ Like you’re laying in the snow, burr,” he raps. The superstar also goes into detail about his work ethic, saying that he sets the bar high for himself. “When I release something, I want it to be the best,” he says. “When I release my fragrance, I want it to be the #1 fragrance — I don’t want it to be the ninth-best-selling fragrance. My Christmas album went double-platinum worldwide. Christmas albums don’t do that, and that still wasn’t good enough for me.” What do you think of Justin’s new magazine cover?
