New Hampshire Primary A ‘Family Affair’ For Jon Huntsman’s Kids

‘He brings a lot to this table,’ Abby Huntsman tells MTV News of their dad, a Republican presidential hopeful. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mary Anne, Abby and Liddy Huntsman Photo: MTV News MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — Life on the campaign trail has often been compared to “Groundhog Day.” Another town, another local deep-fried delicacy (or 20), another 10 stump speeches and endless rounds of hand-shaking, radio interviews and posed pictures. But when your dad is running for president and he gives you the green light to be yourself with the press and tweet and YouTube (just about) anything you want to, well, things get a lot more interesting. “It’s been crazy. It’s been so fun — a family affair,” said Abby Huntsman, 25, who along with sisters Mary Anne, 26, and Liddy, 24, has been out on the road for months with former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman as he tries to break into the top tier of Republican White House aspirants. The trio have already created some of the most lighthearted, virally hilarious moments in an otherwise smash-mouth primary campaign with their YouTube send-ups of Herman Cain campaign commercials and Justin Timberlake songs, as well as a popular Twitter feed that is much looser than the usual sanitized candidate-kid offering. “We call it a roller coaster — you never know which way the car is going to go,” she said, noting that as of Monday afternoon (January 9), it felt like that direction was up, as their father’s poll numbers were inching north into double digits as he made a bid for third place in the Granite State. After skipping last week’s first-in-the-nation caucus in Iowa , the former Obama administration ambassador to China had pinned his hopes on a strong showing in New Hampshire. And when it comes to young voters, Huntsman likely has the sibling trio to thank for his popularity, due to the maverick decision to loosen up the normally short leash candidate offspring are typically kept on. “We cut that leash day one,” said Liddy, the unofficial wild child of the bunch. An avowed hip-hop fan and music junkie who used to hide CDs with explicit lyric stickers under her bed in seventh grade — until her dad found them and broke them in half — Liddy said reaching out to her peers using online media was the plan from the beginning. “We think [social media] is crucially important for this election cycle, especially for our younger generation, so we’ve kind of run with it.” For the most part, Dad’s been OK with their online escapades — well, except for a few things Liddy wanted to release that Mary Anne said their candidad put the kibosh on. Among their favorite stories is how a young Jon Huntsman dropped out of high school to join a rock band but clearly didn’t succeed at that venture. “So he’s running for the next best job, which is president,” Liddy joked. Music is still important to the Huntsmans. Mary Anne is a classically trained concert pianist who loves Chopin; Dad is a Ben Folds Five fan; and the ladies were blown away when they recently watched Florence and the Machine on “Saturday Night Live.” Yes, they’re fun and they have a blast trying to engage their peers with clever tweets and videos, but the ladies also have a job to do. So they make sure to expertly tout their dad’s experience as a job-creating governor and an ambassador. “He brings a lot to this table … he also unites this country [and believes] we should all serve our country when asked, and that comes before party — country first,” Abby said. MTV News’ Sway was so impressed with their poise, in fact, he asked if any of the next-generation Huntsmans were thinking of a career in politics. “I’ll save America the grief and I will stick to what I’m doing and not do politics,” laughed Liddy, motioning to Abby as the likely next woman up. “No … ask us when this is over,” she demurred. ‘Breaking Dawn,’ ‘Hunger Games’ Top Movie Brawl Sweet 16

Anything can happen as front-runners and dark horses duke it out for the top spot in our tourney. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ Photo: Summit Entertainment What a ride it’s been so far in the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 ! After more than a quarter million votes, fans have whittled down the competition from an opening round of 32 films to a 16-flick bracket topped by #1 seeds ” Hunger Games ” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” Now that the pretenders and also-rans have been axed — See ya later “Expendables 2”! Thanks for playing “Rock of Ages”! — it’s time for the big guns to face off. Let’s get right to it. Upper West Region Otherwise known as the Robert Pattinson Honorary Region, this section of the bracket features three RPattz films. While we love seeing the 3-D re-release of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” sneaking into the Sweet 16 after a wild-card win in round one, George Lucas’ baby doesn’t have much of a shot to knock “Breaking Dawn” from its perch atop the bracket. Twi-fans came out in force over the weekend to conquer “Hunger Games” and assure itself the highest vote total of round one. So Pattinson and his vampire pals have got to be feeling good as voting moves forward. Things are much more up in the air in the region’s other matchup: “Cosmopolis” vs. “Bel Ami.” Will Pattinson fans favor his cerebral, David Cronenberg-directed drama or his Uma Thurman-co-starring love story, which holds out the prospect of, as RPattz himself told us , “a lot of my crack in it.” This matchup is just too close to call at this point. Lower West Region This region is all about the superheroes, though neither “Dark Knight Rises,” “The Amazing Spider-Man” nor “Marvel’s The Avengers” performed heroically in the first round. The MTV Movies team had been eyeing “TDKR” as one of the films to beat headed into the tournament, but fans didn’t turn out to support Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film in the numbers we expected. “Avengers” managed to nab a six seed, but Captain America and his crew had better bring their A-games if they want to give “TDKR” a run for its money. By contrast, “Spider-Man,” which barely survived round one, is going to have to deliver nothing short of an inspired performance if it expects to knock off “Dark Shadows.” Tim Burton’s adaptation of the supernatural soap opera announced itself as a potential dark horse after an impressive and unexpected first-round showing. An Elite Eight showdown between “Dark Shadows” and “Dark Knight” would make for a kick-ass brawl. Upper East Region “Hunger Games” enters the Sweet 16 with a bit of wind taken out of its sails, following its failure to garner the most round-one votes after leading for most of the week. Its new matchup is a pivotal one, and a blowout of “Prometheus” would go a long way toward assuring fans that “Hunger Games” has its eye locked squarely on a final matchup with “Breaking Dawn.” But before we get there, “Hunger Games” will have to contend with two action flicks, in “John Carter” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” that have been surging in recent days. “G.I. Joe” didn’t even look like it was going to make the Sweet 16 until a last-minute rise. That sequel could potentially play the spoiler in this four-seed vs. five-seed matchup. Lower East Region Anything can happen in this region. Based on its pedigree, you might expect “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” to run roughshod over anything at this point in the tournament. But Peter Jackson’s flick faces off against Emma Watson’s “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” a wild-card entrant that can easily spoil the hopes of everyone in Middle-earth. This matchup to just too close to call. And don’t count out another upset in the game between “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “The Woman in Black.” Though “SWATH” has a lot of heat behind it, based on a top-notch trailer and the leadership of Kristen Stewart, you underestimate Daniel Radcliffe’s fans at your own peril. But which star has the most feverish following? The answer to that question will likely reveal which film moves on to the Elite Eight in the MTV Movie Brawl 2012. What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012 ! Related Videos Get Ready For MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Raekwon Scores Unexpected Victory With New Mixtape

Wu-Tang Clan vet tells Mixtape Daily about the free digital download: ‘Anything that I give y’all this time is gonna be unexpected.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by FLX Raekwon Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily: Main Pick Mixtape : Unexpected Victory Headliner : Raekwon the Chef Representing : Staten Island, New York Real Spit : Raekwon isn’t ready to be boxed in just yet. The 18-year rap vet, who started with Wu-Tang Clan in 1993, first became known for his multi-syllabic, kung fu-inspired rap style, but has since evolved sonically. Who could forget the Chef’s mafia-themed crime sagas on his 1995 classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx … ? Last year, Rae took things back to the block on Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, and now he is looking to conquer the digital space with his latest mixtape, which he offered as a free download on New Year’s Day. “This mixtape right here is called Unexpected Victory . I call it the Unexpected because it’s unexpected on what I’m gonna give y’all, and on top of it, it’s gonna be victorious,” the Chef explained to Mixtape Daily . “I feel good. I feel like I can take a dive in something and be professional with it and really watch it grow, and that’s what I wanted to do with this mixtape right here.” The 17-track mix bangs from start to finish. Opening with a dramatic violin-laden instrumental, Rae launches into the slow-rolling, sophisticated “Just a Toast.” Over the Mark Henry-produced gem, the Staten Island, New York, MC reminds listeners of his drug-laced street background as well as his prowess on the mic when he spits, “Powerful when giving coke out/ You know they call me Sugar Ray, the Chef, the G.O.A.T.’s out.” “A Pinebox Story” is another gem. Rae, a master storyteller, lays a murder mystery atop a soulful 9th Wonder production. He’s great alone, but there, Lex Diamonds recruits plenty of lyrical assassins. His new artist JD Era rides shotgun on a number of tracks, while Mobb Deep, Capone, Noreaga, Vado, L.E.P. Bogus Boys and Fred the Godson provide ample backup. Busta Rhymes shows up on the lavishly laid “MTV Cribs.” An ode to the good life, Rae and the Dungeon Dragon throw a nod to the classic MTV show while displaying their own brand of rich living. Raekwon’s not-so-humble abode features a 360-degree spinning wall unit, a see-through refrigerator and a tub full of ice. Not to be outdone, Bussa Buss’ castle boasts crystal chandeliers, an Alaskan polar bear rug and a casino in the basement, and a rare painting of Jean-Michel Basquiat feeding fruit to Madonna. Can’t say we saw that one coming. “It’s called Unexpected because anything that I give y’all this time is gonna be unexpected,” Rae said. “It’s gonna be like, ‘Oh sh–, he jumped into a new world, he jumped into a new chamber.’ ” As if we’ve never heard him before.
