That’s right, both Hayden Panettiere – who will show off her own singing voice on the upcoming ABC drama Nashville – and Ashley Greene walked the red carpet at the event, each looking pretty and each angling for your vote. A movie expert weighs in on why the teen dramedy was a box-office flop. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus in “LOL” Photo: Lionsgate Last Friday, Miley Cyrus’ soapy teen dramedy “LOL” opened to a limited release in nine states on Friday. The film, by all accounts, didn’t perform the way a film starring Cyrus, “Twilight” star Ashley Greene and one-time screen siren Demi Moore, might be expected to. “LOL,” an English-language adaptation of a French Film of the same name, grossed only $46,500 in 105 theaters. While it’s hard to tell why the film underperformed, it seems that a lack of marketing leading up to its debut may have played a role in that. The flick follows the story of a teen, Lola (played by Cyrus), as she faces the strife of first love in a world driven by technology. “It’s really hard to say because we’ve heard absolutely nothing about it. I think there was some buzz about this was sort of going to be a different type of breakout role for Miley. I’m not a fan of Miley, but I would actually like to see that and I think a lot of people would,” Brooke Tarnoff, a senior editor at Next Movie, told MTV News about the lackluster interest in the flick once it dropped. With so few eyes on the release leading up to May 4, it’s hard to tell if the performance had anything to do with Cyrus. Tarnoff added, “Maybe the selling power of Miley has diminished. I think her fanbase may be less loyal than it was in the ‘Hannah Montana’ days, but it’s all kind of moot.” The film had gotten some attention when Cyrus and Greene were spotted filming it back in 2010 . But, after shooting wrapped, little else was heard about the film until a trailer dropped in mid-April, three weeks before the limited release. “There’s obviously an audience for pretty much anything,” she continued. “And this one having a ‘Twilight’ star and Miley Cyrus, who still has some cache, it’s just [a missed opportunity].” Regardless of the film’s box-office performance, Cyrus seemed proud of it. She took to Twitter over the weekend and brushed off the low numbers. “Thank u so much for everyone who went to see LOL,” she wrote. “It is a film I loved making and I am proud of…. I would say that ninety percent of the pictures I’ve ever posted of Ashley Greene have somehow involved her going to or leaving the gym in spandex pants. Seriously. I’m all for chicks working out, but I think she may have overdone it a little. Here she is looking a little too thin for my taste, those pants aren’t supposed to be kinda baggy in the crotch area are they? Looking ahead to Greene’s upcoming slate of non-“Twilight” films, we’re excited to see her “saucy” side in teen comedy “LOL,” in which she stars alongside Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore. We’re also intrigued to see how much she’ll scare us (or be scared) in “Apparition,” which opens in August. More Leading Roles Although plenty of attention is paid to “Twilight” superstars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Greene has always stood out for us in the way she plays Alice Cullen with such sweetness and sincerity — not to mention her mental and physical toughness. We’d like to see Greene carry a film on her own, specifically a romantic comedy or romantic drama. We’re thinking something along the lines of Rose Byrne’s character in “Bridesmaids” or a Rachel McAdams-esque romantic drama. Stay a Role Model In a world that seems to celebrate the comings and goings of starlets based on their outrageous antics onscreen and off, Greene has handled her rise in fame with poise and class. We appreciate the fact that she has made exquisite and enviable choices when it comes to her red-carpet fashions, which won her a Style Icon Award at the Hollywood Life Young Hollywood Awards. And with respect to making headlines, Greene managed to keep her relationship with former flame Joe Jonas mostly under wraps and free from any tabloid scandal. She did have one nude-photo scandal early on, but the woman recovered gracefully and appears to have a solid head on her shoulders — and we hope she stays that way. “I went from dying to get a gig, to dying to get the gig everyone wants,” Greene has said of her rise to fame via her role in “Twilight.” “So now I’m in this realm with a lot of highly respected actresses, which is an amazing place to be, but also kind of terrifying. … I’m so laser-focused on my career, because when you’re dealt these cards, if you don’t kind of run with it, then you’re an idiot. I watched the Twilight movie last night…not the new one….just one that was on my friend’s TV and I only did it because his teenage girls were watching it and I love interracting with teens…I feel like we get each other…and more importantly…their dad was feeding me booze. That said, those movies are the biggest pile of smut I’ve experienced in a while….I felt like live blogging the shit, but didn’t want to admit I was watching the shit….but from seeing a vampire get out of a Volvo….to bitch using lines like “if this is about my soul, take it, i don’t want it wihtout you” all shitty acting and offensive to native americans while always hanging in the woods….I was surprised it brainwashed kids and made a billion dollars…not to mention I was surprised it made this bitch relevant….even if looking at her strong legs in shorts is better than looking at a bitch not in shorts…but maybe that’s just cuz I know she got slammed by a Jonas brother….if you know what I mean.
I’m aware that I say this all the time, but I really don’t know who these Nadia Forde and Eva Ward girls are, not that I really care, I mean they’re hot and they’re modeling lingerie so that’s something right? Anyhow, it’s Thanksgiving and I’m hungover and feel like spending the rest of the day on the couch until it’s time for my Meals on Wheels turkey dinner to get here, and there’s no better way than with some half naked chicks. The Twilight kids seem to be everywhere these days promoting their latest installment in the sensitive vampire saga, luckily one of those kids is hottie Ashley Greene and I love her.
