Source: YASUYOSHI CHIBA / Getty Over the weekend, we watched a Black man save numerous lives by disarming a man who opened fire at a Waffle House in Tennessee. 29-year old James Shaw Jr. is sort of like the real life Black Panther now. Instead of arresting Black folks for chilling at a Starbucks, it’s time to start acknowledging the real life heroes who risk their lives for the well being of others — even when others aren’t too fond of their melanin. Like concertgoer Jonathan Smith who was shot twice while rescuing injured people during the Las Vegas massacre (a.k.a. the deadliest mass shooting in US history) that left over 50 dead in 2017. Or Otis Gaither who saved the lives of a Confederate flag toting couple who was trapped in a fire: We can’t forget the hilarious Charles Ramsey who rescued three women who were kidnapped in Cleveland. UFC heavyweight and Houston native Derrick Lewis also risked his life to save a Confederate flag toter during Hurricane Harvey without any hesitation. It’s not just the men who’ve risked it all while trying to protect a supposed enemy. In 1996, 18-year old Keshia Thomas made headlines after using her body as a human shield to protect a man wearing a Confederate flag T-shirt as he was being physically attacked by protesters. 18-year-old Keshia Thomas protects a fallen man, believed to be associated with the Ku Klux Klan from an angry mob of anti-clan protestors. Not only did she kill it as her and Kelly Rowland joined Beyonce at Coachella last weekend , but her and her bae Chad Johnson are still going strong! On Tuesday, the former Destiny’s Child singer posted a series of cute pics of her running into the Pittsburgh Steelers chaplain’s arms after her iconic performance. “That amazing feeling of getting off the stage, running back to the dressing room and I see someone standing there waiting for me! I always wondered how our worlds would mesh. I always wanted to protect who you are, your ministry and platform because people are nuts and cruel, but you have covered me, prayed for me and told me that wherever I go, and whatever stage I stand on to be a light!” she wrote in a caption. “Soooooooo sorry I jumped on you but I’m glad to know you have muscles to hold me! You so stronnnnnnnng! I’ve waited yeeeeeeears for someone who could come in to my world and be CONFIDENT and NOT insecure, love who I love and genuinely be there for people!! I LOVE YOU” Awwww! You guys know that I love sharing great family experiences with our listeners. This spring break was absolutely one of best family get away trips of all time. I had the pleasure of taking my kids and some extended family to a cabin (chalet) in the Smokey Mountains – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. All for a great discount that I can actually share with you guys! ( Click here for discount details). First the cabin ( Hillsong Heaven) was awesome. It featured four master bedrooms all with king beds and jetted Jacuzzi tubs in each room. There was a game loft with arcade games, pool table, ping pong and a 60+ inch smart TV. We utilized every inch of this area! It was great to see the kids play games that didn’t require WiFi, controllers or cell service! Once we got out and about we got to enjoy many of the attractions that the “Smokey’s” has to offer, including two VERY unique dinning experiences. The first was Dick’s Last Resort – This restaurant features a staff that prides themselves on treating there guest terrible, LOL, It was definitely a unique experience. My kids got in to a napkin toss fight with another table, I got verbally abused by out waiter and my Pops ended up on the wrong side of a little geriatric comedy. Sounds bad right? It was actually DOPE! If you’re following me on instagram (@GotReec) then you saw it on my stories. We also got to visit the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud. This dinner show is ALWAYS sold out and I saw why. All you can eat food, extremely memorable show and unforgettable jokes and antics! All in all this was a great trip and I would recommend it to families of all sizes!
