It’s been rumored that it was coming, but now it’s official. L.A. Reid has officially resigned from his position as the Chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group. The announcement comes after Reid was revealed to become a judge on Simon Cowell’s X-Factor talent competition. Reid, who had been in charge at the company since 2004, sent the following letter out to IDJ staffers: To my Island Def Jam family: After much consideration, I have decided to leave my position as Chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group. I have always thrived on growth and the next great challenge, and I look forward with much enthusiasm to what the future holds. I am extremely proud of our beautiful roster and all we have accomplished in my seven years with IDJ. We continue to have incredible success together with today’s most phenomenal superstars Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, The Killers, The-Dream, Chrisette Michele, Jeezy and Ludacris to name a few. Steven Hirsch, head of Vivid Entertainment, one of the leading “adult film” companies, sent a letter to Usher in regards to the alleged sex tape involving Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster that is currently being shopped around. In the letter, Hirsch offers to prevent the video from circulating. In the letter obtained by TMZ , Hirsch writes “As a result of this being an intimate and very personal tape we can certainly understand why you would want to stop its distribution.” Hirsch continues by saying that Vivid has actually stopped other celeb sex tapes from making it out to the public. We assume that Vivid accomplishes this by purchasing the tapes and then never releasing them. We can only wonder what other celeb sex tapes are collecting dust in their vaults… Then again, maybe we don’t wanna know. Here’s an excerpt from the interview: On falling in love with Usher: “At that time I would say he was my best friend. I’m a regular woman that happened to fall in love with an artist. Actually, I didn’t fall in love with an artist; I fell in love with a man. We were both going through kind of a tumultuous time in our relationships. I was getting ready to go through a divorce, separating from my first husband. He had broken up with his girlfriend. He had been in a long-term relationship with someone that he really cared about. And I guess we leaned on each other”. On the bashing her marriage to Usher received on blogs: “It’s a sad scenario because the lack of support that we received was from the Black women. Only the ignorant people are the loud one and are the ones bashing on blogs and talking and writing up terrible stories and false reports and all of that. That’s ignorance. Georgia moved one step closer to Sunday alcohol sales today when the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 10, which would allow local communities to vote whether to allow retail stores to sell alcohol on Sunday, the AJC reports. The bill is thought to have a good shot at passing in the House and Gov. Nathan Deal has said that while he is not a drinker, he would sign it into law. The 32-22 vote came after nearly three hours of intense and at times emotional debate. The vote also led to some unusual pairings, with religious Republican conservatives teaming with black Democrats in opposition. Supporters said the bill was about allowing local communities to make their own decisions, while opponents said it would violate the Christian Sabbath and cause a raft of social problems from increased domestic violence to alcohol-related deaths Read more at the AJC.com.
