Awesome New Two-Way Bike Lane on Prospect Park (Video)

We Need More Separated Bike Paths The video above shows the transformation of Prospect Park West in Brooklyn. The addition of a two-way separated bike lane has had a calming effect on traffic, making the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and the extra-safety of the new bike lane is attracting lots of new cyclists of all skill levels. It clearly shows that “if you build it they will come” when it comes to bike infrastructure. Via Streetfilms . See also:

The Strangest Sustainability Analogy Ever? Stop Watching Spongebob (Video)

Image credit: CosmicRevolutionKS When I interviewed my friend Tim Toben of Greenbridge and Pickards Mountain Ecoinstitute , he suggested it was important that we all “tell the story about the transformation from a world powered by fossil fuels to a world powered by renewable energy — in poetry, music, art, dance.” That’s easier said than done. But one young man has been doing just that—and the result is rather strange, but oddly compelling. Apparently we… Read the full story on TreeHugger

‘Dallas’ Soap Opera Oil Baron Ditches Oil for Solar Power (Videos)

Photo: Youtube grab J. R. Ewing is Back I’m too young to have seen Dallas during its original run, but I vaguely remember that my parents sometimes watched it and talked about this “J.R.” guy. Still, the show was so popular that even though I haven’t had first-hand exposure, I know enough about it from references and parodies in other shows to know that Larry Hagman’s character, J.R. Ewing , was a memorable oil-loving amoral businessman. That’s why it’s great to see h… Read the full story on TreeHugger

"The Majestic Plastic Bag": Documentary on the Plastic Cycle of Life (Video)

Image credit: Heal the Bay I’ve wondered before whether plastic bags are a distraction , and Bonnie has marveled at the lengths people will go to to get a designer reusable grocery bag instead. But having just watched a fascinating online documentary, I am never going to look at the humble plastic bag in the same light again. For the first time ever, a team of crack wildlife film makers have tracked the “majestic” plastic bag on its … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Are We Hooked on Growth? Dispatches from the Edge of a Cliff (Video)

Image credit: Peak Moment TV When Peak Moment TV asked whether being uncivilized is sustainable , it prompted an interesting discussion on what happens if we move away from current models of industrial civilization.
