‘Iron Man 2’ Gets Widest Release In Hollywood History

Marvel sequel will premiere in 4,380 theaters, beating record held by ‘The Dark Knight.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 2” Photo: Paramount Say what you will about his dubious personal ethics and his abundant supply of arrogance, but it’s impossible to deny that Tony Stark knows how to attract an audience — just check his international records for proof. Now, as “Iron Man 2” prepares to fly into theaters all across the United States this weekend, the superhero is poised to draw a crowd the likes of which Hollywood has never seen before. With a few short hours to go before its U.S. release, the Marvel Studios superhero sequel is already carving out a spot in the domestic box office’s history books — according to Deadline Hollywood , “Iron Man 2” will have the widest initial release in Hollywood history, with a walloping 4,380 venues to its name, courtesy of distributor Paramount Pictures. The previous record holder was Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight,” which boasted 4,366 locations in 2008. Although Iron Man has already defeated Batman’s record for most opening locations, he’ll have a higher bar to clear when it comes to topping the Caped Crusader’s initial box-office intake. In its first weekend in theaters, “The Dark Knight” secured an unprecedented $158.4 million record. Analysts predict that “Iron Man 2” could land close to that number — somewhere between $150 and $160 million by Sunday’s conclusion — presenting Tony Stark with the opportunity to pluck another trophy off of the considerably stacked shelf located in the Bat Cave. Already, “Iron Man 2” has performed fantastically overseas. It currently sits atop a money pile worth $121.1 million after its release in 53 foreign territories, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Australia and Russia. By Monday morning, American moviegoers will probably have donated few hundred million more to the Stark Industries bank account. You Decide: What Should They Rename Cougar Town?

Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence has a regret or two: “I’d like to [change the title], and the studio has been talking about it,” he tells Hitfix. “It’s tough, man…It’s a great hindsight mistake.” While it would be unusual for a major network show to change its title between seasons without a radical recasting or rejiggering as inspiration, who knows what’s typical anymore in today’s crazy, mixed-up world of television? We put it to you, then: if this Courteney Cox sitcom changes its title, what should they call it?

Sophie Turner Hangs With Real Models of the Day

Here is some real groupie shit. I feel like I am looking at pictures from some random slut on Facebook who happened to attend an event filled with her idols, but in this case the fucking groupie is some aspiring yet too old to be a model, porn looking bitch who tried to sue me for calling her a porn looking bitch, model, who came to America to be the next Phoebe Price and Bai Ling, because she found success in reality TV in her native Australia thanks to a set of fake tits, a hot body and the look of a stripper who doesn’t strip in her eye….who managed to score an invite to some Victoria’s Secret shit the models didn’t show up to in their panties, lingerie, or even bikinis, which just upsets me on all levels, but they did get to have their picture taken with Sophie Turner, so I guess it all works out for them in the end, just as soon Sophie Turner makes a name for herself so these girls know who she is, instead of them thinking she’s just a stripper showing her appreciation for all Victoria’s Secret has done for her career……..so here is Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Miranda Kerr and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley being touched by the star of nothing, Sophie Turner. Enjoy. Here she is in a tight black dress…. Pics via PacificCoastNews

Lil Jon Says He Got Fit, Spent Time In The Clubs During Hiatus

‘I got a chance to really let my batteries recharge,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Jon in an MTV News interview on 5.3.10 Photo: MTV News Lil Jon’s long-delayed album Crunk Rock was in the works for so many years that the project evolved from a rock-leaning effort to a “lifestyle” collection featuring electro sounds, R&B and Bali funk. It’s been six years since the producer released his last album, Crunk Juice. put out in 2004 on TVT Records. Jon feuded with the label for a time but finally reached a resolution in 2008, when the company filed for bankruptcy. So what’s Lil Jon been up to all this time? “I actually am glad [the album’s] just now coming out, ’cause I got a chance to really let my batteries recharge,” Jon told MTV News. ” ‘Cause I was doing a lot of stuff, making a lot of records, doing a lot of albums and getting pulled in different directions. And you get burned out and need time to recharge and rejuvenate and come back. “So it gave me time to go out and also get in the club and just DJ again. To feel the pulse of music and people all over the world, ’cause I went all the way to Australia and to Japan and all over America, from Vegas to New York to Miami; I’m DJing every week, basically. All of that helped me to have an eye and be a little bit ahead of everyone else. ‘Cause the pulse of music is in the club. If you don’t go to the club, you can’t know where to go next or what’s gong on. I think everything helped give me time to open my eyes again.” To help kick-start his career while also maintaining his momentum on the DJ circuit, Lil Jon decided to incorporate a new emphasis on physical fitness into his routine. The rowdy personality recently hired a trainer and lost 25 pounds as a result. He’s even pushing a new sugar-free version of his Crunk Energy Drink — just don’t expect him to give up adult beverages anytime soon. “We getting older, man, so I started thinking and realizing you got to get in shape and get healthy,” he explained. ” ‘Cause we want to live longer lives. People are living longer lives, but only if you’re eating healthy and living healthy. I do a lot of drinking [still], so I was like, ‘I need to get my body right!’ ” Are you looking forward to hearing new Lil Jon music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lil Jon

The Hold Steady Evolve (But Stay The Same) On Heaven Is Whenever

‘We wanted to make a more dynamic record, and I hope we did that,’ guitarist Tad Kubler tells MTV News. By Kyle Anderson The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn Photo: MTV News When they began in 2005, the Hold Steady set out to be the best bar band in the world. Over the course of four albums, they have steadily grown from a buzzed-about indie group playing tiny Brooklyn clubs to a world-traveling group that headlines festivals and fills theaters. Though the Hold Steady traditionally put out an album a year, 2008’s Stay Positive kept them on the road, where they visited Australia for the first time, played a massive number of festivals and opened dates for Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows in Europe. It broke up their annual-LP pace for their fifth album, Heaven Is Whenever, which hit shelves Tuesday (May 4), but the extra time helped make the new album the group’s “most musical,” according to frontman Craig Finn. Heaven Is Whenever is indeed the most dynamic album the Hold Steady have put out, with some new guitar sounds and plenty of nods to country and folk music. And Finn’s trademark speak-singing has been dialed back in favor of a classic-rock croon that is one part Bruce Springsteen, one part Paul Westerberg, one part Morrissey. It was no accident. “Every time, we try to make a record that is a little more musical,” Finn said. “I think by singing, it connects vocals to music a little more. Some of it is just being more confident. Some of it is the opportunity to play literally hundreds and hundreds of shows and being on a microphone. I can certainly sing better than I could when we started the band.” “He’s being modest,” lead guitarist Tad Kubler added. “He sang his ass off on this record.” One thing that didn’t change on Heaven Is Whenever is the continued mythology that Finn began laying out way back on the band’s debut, Almost Killed Me. “It gives you a world to run around in, and when you have a lyric that references an old song, the people paying the most attention kind of get a little reward for that,” Finn said. “It’s like an inside joke. So you’re making this world for us and for the fans.” But even though the makeup has shifted (they lost keyboardist Franz Nicolay and added new ivory tickler Dan Neustadt and a third guitarist named Steve Selvidge) and Finn sings more, it’s still the same band with the same beating heart at its core. “When we finished it, everybody kind of took a break from it for a little while, and when we came back to it, everybody thought it sounded different,” Kubler said of the album. “But now that we’ve spent time with it, it doesn’t seem wildly different. We made some deliberate decisions to record in a different way. But it’s still the same guys doing the same stuff. We wanted to make a more dynamic record, and I hope we did that. “If you had to make a really grand statement about this album,” Kubler added, “out of all of our records, this one is the most current.” Are you excited to hear new music from the Hold Steady? Australia Plans To Implement Plain-Packaging Rule For Cigarettes

Australia has planned for new rules forcing tobacco companies to use plain packaging carrying graphic health warnings. Starting in July 2012, manufacturers would be required to drop all color and branding logos from cigarette packs. The move which is billed as world-first comes after the recommendations were made by the World Health Organization (WHO). Australia also announced an increase of 25percent in tax on cigarettes that would be effective from 0001 on Friday. The move will put A$2.16 ($1.99, £1.31) on a pack of 30 cigarettes. The law will require all tobacco products to be sold in a standard style and will also carry government health warnings. According statistics, 15,000 Australians died every year because of smoking. Smoking is the largest preventable cause of disease and death in the country. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will hold elections this year and he aims to trim down smoking-related deaths to under 10percent by 2018. He added this will be the most hard-line regime for cigarette packaging anywhere in the world. A spokeswoman for Imperial Tobacco Australia released a statement that the company planned to fight the measure given by the government. Introducing plain packaging will take away the ability of the consumer to identify the brand from another brand. Cigarette companies value their logos a lot for it identifies their brand. The tax hike comes a day after the New Zealand government announced it would raise cigarette taxes by 30% over three years.
