Jermaine Paul Crowned On ‘The Voice’ Finale

Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, Lady Antebellum and Hall & Oates also perform leading up to Team Blake’s victory. By James Dinh Blake Shelton and Jermaine Paul celebrate on “The Voice” Photo: NBC Universal Records added a new artist to their roster Tuesday night (May 8) when Jermaine Paul of Team Blake was named season-two champ during the finale of “The Voice,” which also featured some major star power appearances from the likes of Justin Bieber and Flo Rida. “I just wanted to say thank you for everyone that voted for me,” the former Alicia Keys backup singer said on the sparkler-filled stage, before giving credit to his wife, children and parents. “God bless y’all, man. Nobody but Jesus, man, nobody!” It was a close call, as host Carson Daly revealed just moments before the announcement that only a mere 4 percentage points separated Paul and runner-up Juliet Simms. Kicking off the two-hour episode was a brief contestant introduction with Paul, Simms, singer/songwriter Tony Lucca and classically trained Chris Mann, before segueing into a recap of the previous night’s live final round and some thoughts from each of the judges about their contestant. But it wouldn’t be a big ol’ finale without some collaborative performances from our season’s favorite former contestants, so Paul rallied up Jamar Rogers, James Massone and Pip to lead the pack on a cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It was a solid effort that most importantly proved why Paul stands as the last remaining singer of the bunch and won the contest. After a montage of silly bloopers from the panel (proving that Xtina is surely more than just full of sass) and a quick commercial break, Simms of Team Cee Lo joined Flo Rida for a medley of his singles “Whistle” and “Wild One.” Missing in action was singer Sia, but Simms took over for the Australian crooner’s chorus, temporarily walked away from her rock element and jumped to some fist-pumping Top 40. Team Xtina’s Chris Mann brought back his lady favorites Lindsey Pavao and Katrina Parker for an appropriate cover of the Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” and the couple complemented Mann’s lively onstage urgency. It may have been an intense evening for the contestants, but “The Voice” kept the show lighthearted by dedicating an entire segment to Shelton and Levine’s on-camera bromance with highlights of their cutesy interactions. “It is clear that Adam has a crush on me, and Miranda is a little bit jealous, but I think it’s cute,” Shelton joked about wife Miranda Lambert. Hall & Oates were up next to sing their classic “Rich Girl” alongside the men of the evening: Tony, Jermaine and Chris. As the duo jammed out to their 1977 hit, the trio of finalists crooned on the side as background vocalists to the iconic act. Living out one more performance were former contestants Naia Kete, Cheesa, Kim Yarbrough and Sera Hill with a performance of “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. Full of energy, attitude and smiles, the quartet blended their distinctive voices for a great number. But it wasn’t enough to outshine Juliet Simms’ group performance alongside Erin Willett, RaeLynn and Jamar Rogers for a cover of the Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends.” It was the best of the all-star performances and brought all the judges to their feet for standing ovations. NBC doubled up when they brought some buzz for the season finale of “Parks and Recreation” as Cee Lo took to the set of the comedy sitcom and had the cast cater to his guest appearance and, of course, the famed swivel chair. Lady Antebellum repped for country music when they appeared for a performance of “Wanted You More,” but the biggest rumble of cheers went to Justin Bieber, who served up a flashy debut performance of his hit “Boyfriend.” As teased a few weeks ago, the teen superstar took the stage for an elaborate production of his lead single. Entering through the floor, the pop singer walked down an alley of bright lights and spent much of the number as the center of attention for a crew of dancers with misty smoke seeping in between his choreography. Before the Biebster took center stage, Team Adam’s Tony Lucca re-emerged for his main number of the night with Jordis Unga to sing Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” It was a friendly throwback to the competition’s battle rounds, as the two played off each other’s lines and catered to different parts of the stage before joining together for an ending hug. Paul Hogan Settles Tax Snafu; Comeback Next?

Get excited: “After eight years, the Australian actor Paul Hogan, best known for his Crocodile Dundee movies, has resolved his dispute with the authorities there, who said he and his former manager, John Cornell, owed $156 million in unpaid taxes and penalties dating to the 1980s heyday of the film series. As the settlement was announced Mr. Hogan’s lawyer, Andrew Robinson, criticized the tax inquiry as a waste of taxpayers’ money, saying it may have cost more than $20 million. He also suggested that Mr. Hogan, who has largely been inactive in recent years, might soon be back with a new project. ‘Who knows, now that this monkey is off his back?’ Mr. Robinson said.” [ NYT ]

My name’s Katelen and I’ve never written anything…

My name’s Katelen and I’ve never written anything like this before, so here  it goes!   I live in Perth, Australia and I’m nearly 14 years old. In late 2010 (December) Justin’s first Australian tour came on pre-sale and I knew I would never be able to afford tickets. So Mum and I entered all the competitions you can enter for tickets to his concerts, or even more; a meet and greet as well. Tickets kept on selling out so I’d cry, then they’d release more tickets so everything would be alright. I saw so, so, so, so many competition winners be announced from the radio stations, music t.v shows, newspapers and even social messaging sites (MSN). Everyday I got so jealous.  On April 18th I got a mention from a girl on Twitter saying “Congrats on winning the Justin Bieber Competition”. I instantly got very excited and replied “Which one?” because I’d entered a lot of them. I logged onto my emails to find 2 emails from ninemsn – I cried. The first one was just a “Congratulations you won!”, the second one was from a Representative. Confirming my address and phone number as my phone had been turned off from being at school. Julia (The Representative) rang me and told me personally that I was going to meet my idol! I also had the choice to choice a friend; I chose my Mum. She was the one who helped all this happen after all.   The morning of 7th of May was very hectic. My dad came around to get my brothers because mum and I wouldn’t be home until late. I was the only one home my mum had to take my brother to one of his competitive football games north of Perth. 12 o’clock wouldn’t come quick enough! 12 o’clock came and we arrived at Burswood Dome at approximately 2:30pm. Bought some merchandise, and mingled with the other beliebers. At 4:30 we had to meet Pat at the box office, and he gave us and about 100 more fans their wristbands. We walked through the stadium, and backstage to see Alfredo, Ryan, Dan and Kenny! Justin was waiting behind the black curtain and we had to go in groups of 4. We went in with 2 other random girls. At first I wasn’t going to stand next to stand next to Justin, I stood next to the other girl and my Mum was about to walk around to the other side when Kenny asked her “Is this your daughter ma’am?” So he moved the other girl around the other side so me, mum and Justin could stand next to each other! (I’m on the right of Justin, and My mum’s the one looking over).   We then got escorted out into the stadium and waited there until all the meet and greets were over. Then we went to the main area. We could either go outside or stay in there and get to our seats first, we decided to stay inside as the lines were kilometres long. We were allowed to go to our seats first; it was empty! Then swarms of other girls entered and soon it eventually was full! The show started late, and Dash and Will; the opening act came on, Then DJ Tay James came on and DJ’ed for 15 minuted then it started!! I couldn’t contain my excitement! I swear Justin pointed at me during ‘U Smile’ and ‘Somebody To Love’ but it could’ve been someone next to, behind, or in front of me! At the end of the concert I had no voice, and my Mum couldn’t hear anything! We got home after midnight because of detours. That was My Bieber Experience! Random Ridiculousness: Pilot Forgets To Lower Wheels When Landing Plane Because He Was Too Busy Text Messaging

Flight Aborted Due To Pilot Preoccupied With Cell Phone Why in the hell was this pilot texting anyway???? Confused Jetstar pilots forgot to lower the wheels and had to abort a landing in Singapore just 150 metres above the ground, after the captain became distracted by his mobile phone, an investigation has found. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau report on the May 27, 2010 incident on Flight JQ57, from Darwin to Singapore, reconstructed a scene of cockpit chaos. The captain, of more than 13,000 hours flying experience, was distracted by incoming text messages on his phone, while the first officer, of more than 4000 hours experience, was probably fatigued, the report said. The pair had lost their “situational awareness”, leading to poor decision-making and hampered communications, investigators found. The problems aboard JQ57 began when the co-pilot, the first officer, switched off the autopilot on the 220-seat Airbus A320 to make preparations to land. Somewhere between 2500 feet and 2000 feet, the captain’s mobile phone started beeping with incoming text messages, and the captain twice did not respond to the co-pilot’s requests. The co-pilot looked over and saw the captain “preoccupied with his mobile phone”, investigators said. The captain told investigators he was trying to unlock the phone to turn it off, after having forgotten to do so before take-off. At 1000 feet, the co-pilot scanned the instruments and felt “something was not quite right” but could not spot what it was. At this stage the captain still did not realise the landing gear had not been lowered, and neither pilot went through their landing checklist. At 720 feet, a cockpit alert flashed and sounded to warn that the wheels still hadn’t been lowered. At 650 feet, the captain moved the undercarriage lever “instinctively” but then a “too low” ground-warning alarm sounded as the plane sunk through 500 feet, indicating the landing gear was not fully extended and locked. The co-pilot was confused by the captain’s action in lowering the wheels, as he was getting ready to do quite the opposite — to abort the landing and re-ascend to the skies, investigators said. Neither spoke to each other about their intentions. At 392 feet, the crew aborted the landing and powered up the thrust. At this time the pilots had lost track of their altitude, thinking they were much higher, at about 800 feet. Jetstar said it had incorporated the the lessons learned from the incident in its pilot training. “Pilot distraction meant all the landing checklist items weren’t completed before the aircraft passed an altitude of 500 feet, at which point a go-around was required under our operating procedures,” said Jetstar’s Chief Pilot, Captain Mark Rindfleish. “The combination of factors on JQ57 has provided new learnings and the opportunity to add to these safeguards, which we take very seriously.” Changes introduced included completing landing checklists before 1000 feet and a reminder to pilots to ensure their mobile phones are switched off before take-off, he said. Last time we checked all electronics including cellphones must be in the “off” position while landing! Source More On Bossip! Iggy Azalea ‘Restructured’ Deal For Grand Hustle

After signing with Interscope, rapper tells MTV News, she decided she wants T.I.’s label to be ‘a permanent fixture in my career.’ By Nadeska Alexis Iggy Azalea Photo: MTV News Iggy Azalea’s fall 2011 mixtape, Ignorant Art, drew so much attention that by January she’d already inked a deal with Interscope Records . A month later, however, T.I. announced that she had also signed to Grand Hustle Records , causing a bit of confusion. Although it was an usual situation, Azalea says her deal was restructured to create an ideal contract. “I didn’t know I was gonna sign to Grand Hustle,” Azalea told MTV News, explaining how she managed to stick with both imprints. “There’s no way I thought that would happen. Not because I didn’t like them, just because my deal was all sewn up, and I restructured the whole thing.” The 21-year-old Australian rapper revealed that Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine was “cool with it,” helping her tailor a new deal that pleased all parties involved. “[Jimmy] likes Tip, and they’re good friends, so it worked out,” she explained. “But it made everybody so confused, because everyone was like, ‘I thought she was signed to Interscope; Grand Hustle is with Atlantic.’ ” Iggy said she pushed for the deal to be amended because she had such natural chemistry with the Atlanta rapper and his team. “I love everyone at Grand Hustle — not just [T.I.],” she shared. “Initially, I wanted to work with him … because of him, but once I got to Atlanta and I met all of them, I was like, ‘Man, I feel so comfortable with all these people and I really want them to all be involved and not just for one album but for the long run.’ “You always hear stories of labels trying to break things up and things changing, and I just wanted to make sure I had a structured business deal where that was not able to happen,” she concluded. “So that’s why I asked for it to be restructured and for Grand Hustle to be involved and be a permanent fixture in my career.” Iggy Azalea’s debut album, The New Classic, is tentatively scheduled to drop this summer. One Directioner Niall Horan’s Half-Eaten Toast Sells For $100K

From Bieber’s lovely locks to ScarJo’s used tissue, MTV News looks back at the most outrageous celebrity auctions so far. By John Mitchell One Direction’s Niall Horan Photo: Getty Images Wondering just how big One Direction madness has gotten? Well, a half-eaten piece of toast left by the British boy band’s Niall Horan on an Australian talk show has attracted almost $100,000 in online bids. That’s Justin Bieber big, y’all! Digital Spy reports the toast was put up for auction on eBay by the Australian broadcaster behind the morning program “Sunrise.” The One Direction guys visited the show yesterday and were asked to try some traditional Down Under cuisine, including the country’s famous Vegemite spread. Horan was not a big fan and did not finish his toast, so the broadcaster decided to let the leftovers benefit the Australian charity Youngcare. Bidding opened at $0.99, though a quick succession of bids saw the price of the — we repeat — half-eaten piece of toast rise to $1,000. Within a few hours the price had risen to $15,000, which is when a serious shopper stepped into the mix, putting forth a $50,000 bid. The same bidder continued to make outrageous offers on the toast as other astute 1D fans got in the game, first bidding $80,000, then $85,000, $90,000 and eventually $99,999. That price was matched, meaning that even if the bidder who drove the price up so high was a fraud, there is another person out there willing to pay nearly $100,000 for a piece of half-eaten toast. Curiously, this is not the first time people have gotten all worked up on eBay over curious celeb castoffs. In other toast-related news, during the heyday of ‘NSYNC, a Z-100 DJ auctioned off a piece of French toast that Justin Timberlake took one bite of for a reported $3,154. The toast was purchased by a 19-year-old fan, who reportedly said that she would “probably freeze-dry it, then seal it … then put it on my dresser.” Yep. Justin Bieber gave Ellen DeGeneres a lock of his hair during an appearance on her talk show last year and she decided to put the hair up for auction to benefit the Gentle Barn Foundation, a California-based animal rights organization. Bieber’s luscious locks drew 98 bids and collected $40,688 for the charity. That’s about the cost of tuition at Amherst College. Though it brought in much less cash, a tissue used by Scarlett Johansson on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” still managed to bring in $5,300 for the charity, USA Harvest and online casino GoldenPalace paid $530 for, ahem, “A jar containing air exhaled by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.” Oh, and for “one piece of gum chewed and spat out by the pop princess.” The princess: Britney Spears. The year: 2004. We call dibs on the half-drank bottle of water left by whichever Jonas Brother stops through next. How much would you pay for Niall Horan’s half-eaten toast?
