#BlackGirlMagic: 16-Year-Old Accepted Into 9 Law Schools

B lack youngsters are displaying excellence in academia. As college acceptance letters continue to roll in for many, a 16-year-old from Dallas has been selected by some of the nation’s most prestigious law schools to continue her education, Black News reported. She's 16. She's brilliant. And she's entering LAW SCHOOL this fall. Meet Haley Taylor Schlitz: https://t.co/Lm0NKy6DvQ pic.twitter.com/TcmMgO67xU — WSB-TV (@wsbtv) March 22, 2019 Haley Taylor Schlitz has had an educational journey that has been full of milestones. Schlitz—who was homeschooled—graduated from high school at 13-years-old. She then went on to take courses at Tarrant County College and also furthered her studies at Texas Woman’s University. After receiving her bachelor’s degree this Spring she will pursue her law degree at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. The Dallas-based institution is one of nine schools that accepted Schlitz and is recognized as one of the top 50 law schools in the country. Among the other schools that accepted her were the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Howard University, Texas Southern University, and others. Her family recognized that she was gifted at an early age. After Schlitz underwent intelligence tests and performed well, her parents decided it was best for her to be homeschooled. Not only would it give her the opportunity to learn at her own accelerated pace, but they wouldn’t have to keep her in an educational setting where she didn’t feel challenged. Schlitz initially wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and pursue a career in medicine, but witnessing all of the inequality in our country motivated her to want to become a lawyer. “It is my hope that I can bring my passion for addressing education equity issues, and help facilitate a program that focuses on the legal advocacy needs of underserved students and their families in accessing gifted education programs,” she wrote in a piece for Better Make Room . “The lack of access to these programs helps promote stereotypes and keeps students of color in our K-12 schools locked in an education system that views them as the problem instead of the solution.” Aside from making her mark in law, she plans on creating an organization that empowers children to help them reach their full potential. Earlier this year Schlitz and her mother Dr. Myiesha Taylor released a book titled The Homeschool Alternative which highlights how homeschooling is beneficial for Black children. The Bachelor Finale Recap: Did Colton Get His Happy Ending?

There was high drama on Tuesday night’s Bachelor season finale. But not of the typical kind. We didn’t head into this concluding episode wondering which remaining suitor Colton Underwood would select to be his hopeful wife… … we headed into it wondering whether Cassie Randolph would be willing to open her heart to the man she had already rejected. Seriously: Underwood dumped Tayshia and Hannah on part one of the finale, breaking the latter’s heart especially hard because he just wasn’t sure if he could fall for these women. But he knew he had fallen already for Cassie. So Colton cut ties with the two finalists and knocked on Cassie’s hotel room door to conclude the opening half of this finale, praying for a positive response. Did he receive one? View Slideshow: The Bachelor Season Finale, Part 1: What Did Colton Do?!? Cassie acted all surprised to see Colton, as if this hadn’t been planned out and scripted well ahead of time. He explained to her that she was the only suitor left because he had thrown romantic caution to the wind and send Tayshia and Hannah packing. It was her, it had always been here and they didn’t even have to get engaged or married any time or anything at all. They could just take their relationship “day by day.” Cassie confessed that Colton seeing other women throughout the show did intimidate her — and she still wasn’t certain of her feelings. But, yeah, sure, whatever: Let’s do this! The two then kissed and Colton even shared his fence-jump story with her, which Cassie found hilarious for some reason. From there, Colton invited Cassie to continue the journey with him by traveling to Spain to meet his family and said she was all for trying to figure things out with Underwood. “I’m not telling you that I love you, I want to show you and I want you to see exactly why and how much I’m willing to give up and give to us,” Colton chose his possible soulmate. Finally, to answer the question on everyone’s minds… we don’t know. The couple did enter the Fantasy Suite on their final evening abroad together, but Colton refused to divulged what may or may not have down down in there. “It’s something that we’re going to keep to ourselves,” he later told Chris Harrison. “I’ll take that as a yes,” Harrison replied. Regardless of whether or not Colton got a physical happy ending, however, he does appear to have gotten an emotional one with Cassie. “We’re in love,” Underwood emphatically said about their relationship when making his first public appearance on the after-show stage with Randolph on Tuesday. Sitting by his side, she jumped in to say: “We’re super in love.” So there you have it. Do you think these two will make it down the aisle? Do you think they made it (wink, wink!) in bed? Colton insinuated the latter via the above Instagram photo and caption to close his night on Tuesday: Whatever I write will never fully articulate the feelings I have for you. You are the most incredible person whom I have ever met, you have the kindest soul and the sweetest heart. You changed my life for the better and made this year the best year of my life. I can’t wait for our adventures ahead… I have my best friend. I have my girlfriend. I have my future fiancé. I have my future wife. But most importantly I have you. Let’s do this thing they call life… together… forever. I love you.

Hannah Brown: Confirmed as the Next Bachelorette!

And her journey begins… now! On The Bachelor finale , Colton Underwood chose Cassie Randolph to be his very serious girlfriend. But we already knew that heading into the episode, considering Colton had made his feelings and his intentions clear. What we did NOT know, however, was who ABC would choose to follow in Underwood's love-seeking footsteps. The decision was announced on the live after-show by Chris Harrison, however, with the next Bachelorette even meeting five of her suitors right there on stage. Scroll down for every last detail! 1. Here She Is! In what couldn’t have come as a major shock to any viewer, Hannah Brown was given this honor by Chris Harrison 2. Why Was This Obvious? Well… Hannah made her presence felt this season by feuding with fellow contestant Caelynn Miller-Keyes and even earning herself the alter ego “Hannah Beast.” So she isn’t afraid to voice her opinion, which is a good thing. 3. She Also Made It to the Final Two Getting far on a season of The Bachelor is basically a requirement for the new Bachelorette. In this case, she was one of two finalists. 4. She Then Hinted at the Distinction on Monday Night “I want somebody to, I don’t know, jump a fence for me,” Hannah told the audience during the after-show that followed part one of The Bachelor finale. 5. What Did She Say After the Announcement Was Made? I” do believe that it can happen, and I’m just really just so grateful and honored that people saw my heart and that I get to continue showing that and that somebody will hopefully share their heart with me.” 6. What Else? “I feel all the emotions, but honestly I’m just really grateful for this opportunity,” she added to Chris Harrison, saying she had known she had been chosen for about three weeks. Cassie Randolph Lashes Out Against Trolls, Details "Unique Adventure" on The Bachelor

Cassie Randolph is finally ready to talk. Or write, at the very least. Especially now that she has something to say about her apparent soulmate, Colton Underwood. On Tuesday night’s emotional Bachelor finale , Cassie listened closely to Colton’s pleas for another shot. She explained to him that she didn’t like how he was dating so many other women during their televised courtship and outlined the pressure she felt to make a decision about marriage at this point in their relationship. So the pair decided to scale it all back. There was no proposal on the finale. There was simply a decision to commit to a legitimate relationship and to see what sort of feelings would develop from there. And what was the answer? Very strong feelings! On the live after-show that aired following the actual finale, Cassie said she and Colton were “super” in love. How sweet, right?!? There’s no ring on Cassie’s finger just yet, just to be clear, but Randolph jumped on Instagram several hours ago to open up in great detail about the “unique adventure” of appearing on The Bachelor. “Sometimes it can be hard for me to find my words (as you all have seen haha),” she said to open this lengthy post, continuing as follows: “it’s so easy for me to over-analyze and get in my own head, especially when my feelings are overwhelming or when big things are happening so quickly. So, here goes my attempt to put the past 6 months into words…” From there, Cassie delved into nearly every aspect of her time as a contestant. And she included with her message the photo below of her and Colton swapping spit. Stepping out of the limo on night one, I had no idea what was in store for me. The saying “God always has bigger plans in mind” has never felt more real to me than it does now. I’m honestly holding back tears as I write this, trying not to get too sentimental as all the memories and emotions flood over me while I reflect on this whole experience. As easy as it is to mock The Bachelor and the idea of falling in love in front of complete strangers and many cameras, Cassie and Colton actually approached the experience in a similar, candid manner. It’s clearly ridiculous to get engaged after a stint on this show. Both sides instead agreed to just date for awhile and to see where things go from there. Now, back to Cassie’s heartlfelt message: I am unbelievably grateful for every single relationship that was formed with 29 amazing women, Colton and all the crew involved. It was a truly unique adventure that I got the extraordinary opportunity to experience. Everyone who has been beside me throughout these past 6 months (during filming and post), has helped me grow in ways that I couldn’t ever have imagined. Cassie, of course, feuded with fellow beauty pageant contestant Caelynn on more than one occasion this season. But she only had positive things to say in this post. I’ve learned things about myself, relationships, and life in general, that I would never have known otherwise. Thinking back to before I was cast on The Bachelor S23, I get chills realizing just how crazy it is that ONE THING has the potential to change life SO MUCH. Randolph did go on to say she needed to take a social media hiatus, however, during which some viewers out there hurt her feelings with what they said about her online. This past week, I took a much-needed break from my social media. I was allowing the opinions of others, and their sometimes cruel speculations, really get to me. T hat brings me to perhaps the truest, most impactful thing that this experience has taught me: to stay true to myself. Being real is something we ALL owe to ourselves. She concluded by hinting that marriage may, indeed, be in the cards. Regardless of the outcome, that is the one thing we can do to guarantee no regrets… to make the best decision we can in the moment. So cheers, my friends (and trolls) to The Bachelor S23 finale… may we all live and learn, be humble, and most of all, forever remain open to learning. Thank you for the opportunity to share with you all a glimpse into some of the most pivotal moments of my life. So far 🙂 As for the two other questions Bachelor fans had heading into the finale: 1. Yes, Cassie and Colton almost definitely had sex, although neither would confirm. 2. As you can learn more about below, Hannah Brown was named the next Bachelorette. The Bachelor Season Finale, Part 1: What Did Colton Do?!?

Colton Underwood promised to be a different Bachelor this season, coming into the season as a virgin. (It's true! He had never had sex before! Not sure if the show had mentioned that at all.) And, in the end, Underwood lived up to this promise. He made an unusual decision on part one Season 23 finale, breaking down in tears often and taking both viewers and Chris Harrison aback. Like, way aback. For what reason? What did Colton decide? Scroll down for all the delicious details! 1. Cassie or Bust! As nearly all Internet users knew heading into the finale, Colton lost it a week prior after Cassie said she didn’t love him and wanted to go home. He jumped a fence and disappeared into the night, leaving Chris Harrison and company confused and in a panic. 2. Quote of the Century? “We called back to Los Angeles… and we woke up other executive producers and executives and said, ‘This is what’s happening. What do we do?’ and they said, ‘At some point, you’re gonna have to call the authorities,'” Harrison said on air of Colton bolting. “Luckily as we were about [to call the cops], someone’s walkie talkie clips.” (Ummmm… you were gonna call the cops and say what?!? A grown man was walking outside by himself? Please help?) 3. I’m F-cking Done! When finally tracked down by producers on the finale, Colton told Harrison that he was “done” with the show because Cassie’s rejection reminded him that he is “not enough.” 4. What About Tayshia and Hannah G? You know, the two women remaining on the finale? Colton said they were cool and all and he was maybe falling in love with them — but he was ALREADY in love with Cassie. And he wanted to fight for her! 5. Sorry, Ladies So Colton went out and made history: he dumped both of the women remaining! He chose to enter part two of the finale (airing on Tuesday night) with zero suitors because his heart was set on winning Cassie back. 6. How Did Tayshia Take It? Very well. She wasn’t happy about Colton’s decision, but she also said some nice things about The Bachelor before leaving Portugal. View Slideshow

Colton Underwood: I Pretty Much HAD to Dump Tayshia & Hannah G!

If you watched the first two-hour installment of The Bachelor season finale on Monday night, then you learned two important things: The show’s producers have figured out a way to drag this thing out to an absurd degree, and Colton is all-in when it comes to Cassie Randolph. Last week, Colton got dumped by Cassie (Fun fact: He’s the most-dumped bachelor in the show’s history!) and in response, he hopped a fence — with impressive upper body strength — and took off into the wilds of Portugal. This week, Colton kicked both Tayshia and Hannah G to the curb in order to focus on winning back Cassie — who, again, had just dumped him. We all knew Colton’s fantasy suite week would probably feature considerably less sexy-time than past seasons, but we didn’t think dude would end up just as single and virginal as when he started! At times, it was tough to figure out what the Colton was thinking. But in a new interview with People , Underwood makes it clear that there was just one thing going through his mind — Cassie. “I had to fight for Cassie,” the ex-football player tells the magazine. “I was ready to end the show.” Colton says once he poured his heart out for Cassie, he knew there was only one path forward. “Once I had the conversation with Cassie, my mind was made up. I was either going to leave by myself, or I was leaving with her,” he says. As for sending Tayshia and Hannah packing, Colton says he did as much for their sake as for his own. “I had to do what was right, and what was best for them, and that was to have that tough conversation,” he tells People. “The game was changed in a way,” “I knew I could walk away heartbroken,” says the Bachelor star. “But I had to fight for Cassie.” Colton seems like a decent fella and all, but he’s definitely guilty of sugar-coating some heaping spoonfuls of BS. We don’t doubt the sincerity of his feelings toward Cassie, but after the famous dump-and-jump scene, it’s not like he could have gone back and tried his luck with Tayshia or Hannah. Imagine if he had to watch the Cassie breakup with one of the other women, having recently proposed to  her . We’re guessing that wouldn’t have gone over to well with either Hannah or Tayshia. Colton might not always be the brightest bulb when it comes to his love life. But even he has the foresight to anticipate a disaster like that. First Black Man To Earn Ph.D. In Chemistry Honored By American Chemical Society

A n African-American STEM pioneer was finally honored for breaking barriers in the realm of science. Saint Elmo Brady —the first Black man to receive a doctorate degree in chemistry—had a National Historical Chemical Landmark dedicated to him by the American Chemical Society, the Journal for Blacks in Higher Education reported. Leaders at the American Chemical Society believe it’s crucial that Brady’s journey and contributions to STEM don’t go unsung. The organization’s 2018 President Peter K. Dorhout believes that Brady’s story will serve as inspiration for the next generation of Black STEM leaders. “This landmark designation recognizes the outstanding accomplishments and leadership impact that Dr. Brady has had on the chemical profession,” said Dorhout in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I am proud to be an alumnus of the university that was part of his legacy — dreaming, designing and executing the creation of four outstanding and impactful chemistry programs that have each worked to ensure access to higher education and the chemical professions for so many young African-American men and women over the last century.” There was a designation ceremony that was held on February 5. A Louisville native, Dr. Brady received his bachelor’s degree in 1908 from Fisk University. Four years after graduating, he went on to pursue his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Throughout his career, he held teaching roles at Tuskegee University, Tougaloo College, Howard University, and Fisk University. He chaired the chemistry departments at his alma mater Fisk and at Howard University as well. The University of Illinois isn’t the only institution that will receive a plaque dedicated to Dr. Brady. Other universities and colleges that he left a mark on will as well; including Fisk University, Tuskegee University, Howard University, and Tougaloo College. The Bachelor Recap: FIVE Women Just Went Home!

On last Monday's intense episode of The Bachelor , Colton Underwood walked away and seemed to quit the show. He didn't really , of course, but ABC did conclude the installment by fading to black before even airing a rose ceremony, telling fans the storyline would “be continued” this week. Those were the circumstances under which we turned in to The Bachelor yesterday, curious about Colton and where his mind is at these days. But we ended this episode with thoughts about two suitors instead, following their historic decision to truly quit the show. These choices have been teased in our ongoing The Bachelor spoilers section, but you need to scroll down to see how they actually played out… 1. We Started This Week with a Rose Ceremony Gotta make up for not showing it last week, right? Almost right off the bat, Onyeka is sent packing after her explosive fight with Nicole in Miami. 2. What About Nicole? She got the early boot, too, of course. 3. We Move to the Group Date… The women competed in martial arts prior to going to a party, at which Sydney confronted Colton about giving other women more opportunities than her. 4. Why No One-on-One Date? Colton had no answer for Sydney. It’s not like he even picks who is rewarded with these outings. “I feel like ever since someone’s like, ‘Hey, you’re The Bachelor,’ it’s a lot of pressure. Everybody expects me to have everything figured out, and I don’t. I don’t have it figured out,” Colton told Sydney during this emotional chat. “I’m not naive to the fact that there’s other people here and I know every relationship is so different.” 5. Here’s the Thing, Though “My fear is that with the choices that you’ve been making, you are taking a lot of the easier choices with the people that you are pursuing. If that’s what you’re looking for, great,” Sydney told Colton candidly. 6. More from Sydney “I’m kind of at a crossroads because I want something real and I want something magical and I want everything that you’re looking for.” View Slideshow

Vanessa Grimaldi: Dating a Man Named Josh Wolfe!

It’s been more than a year since Vanessa Grimaldi and Nick Viall split . Now, Vanessa has found love again, and this time, she looked outside of the Bachelor Fam. Get to know her new man, below: Us Weekly reports that Vanessa Grimaldi is officially dating a man named Josh Wolfe. Josh is a Canadian businessman. Notably, Josh works as Director of Outreach and Programming in the Quebec and Atlantic Canadian region for the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. It is not clear how the two of them met, but Bachelor fans have been speculating that they’re dating for a while now. It has been over a year since Vanessa and Nick Viall split in August of 2017. Here is a photo of Josh from Passover. Just last week, Vanessa opened up to Us Weekly to share that she is off the market. “I am dating someone,” she confirmed on Saturday, January 18 She did not reveal the man’s identity at the iHeart Radio Podcast Awards in Los Angeles. But she did divulge that her new relationship is “very exciting.” Notably, she has confirmed that this boyfriend is not the man whom she was seeing in April 2018 when she teased that she was dating again. Which means that Josh is definitely, definitely not any sort of Nick Viall rebound. It sounds like this is more serious than just a few dates. At the very least, it looks like Vanessa has met the family. She currently follows Josh’s sisters, Rebecca and Mandy, on Instagram, along with some other family of his. She and Josh interact with each other on Instagram, liking each other’s posts, which is what drew the attention of eagle-eyed fans. (We are always in awe of the detective skills of devoted fans in every single fandom) Here is Josh with his sisters: Speaking of social media activity, it appears that Josh Wolfe was in a relationship of his own back when Vanessa was still with Nick. Older photos make it appear that Josh was dating a woman named Maria Antonopoulos for some time in 2017. Perhaps the timing for him and for Vanessa lined up just perfectly for them to find each other while single. Sometimes, finding a healthy, happy romance depends upon luck and timing more than almost anything else. We’re certainly happy for them both that they seem to have found each other. Vanessa is not the only one who has moved on. It was almost exactly a year ago that we reported that Nick Viall and January Jones were dating . Were is the operative word, here. Within a couple of months, the Mad Men actress and the Bachelor Villain had broken up. It’s always better for everyone involved when all romantic parties can move on with their lives. Vanessa and Nick aren’t getting back together, but they can both date and love again. View Slideshow: The Bachelor & The Bachelorette Cast: Their Hottest Swimsuit Photos Ever!

The Bachelor Sneak Peek: Is This the Season 23 Villain?

It's the question on the minds of Bachelor fans heading into Season 23, and one Bachelor spoilers can't even answer yet: Will anyone steal Colton Underwood's famous virginity ? And while our latest set of The Bachelor spoilers do appear to offer up an answer, we'll need to wait and watch upcoming episodes to see how this all plays out. In this first clip from the season premiere, however, a different problem arises for the suitors: Someone keeps stealing Underway away… from them! “So, I was just talking to Colton. So, that was great, but I got interrupted… by what's her name,” Tahzjuan says in this clip, which debuted on Entertainment Tonight and which features many contestants at the opening night cocktail party. “Catherine interrupted you?” asks Onyeka, instantly aware of who Tahzjuan was talking about because she suffered the same fate at the hands of this competitor. “I walked away, and he said, 'Fourth time's the charm?'” Tahzjuan replied. “Four times? Everyone should get a chance to talk to him. Everyone! And I told her that,” Onyeka says, before saying even more in a confessional. “What the hell! I can't believe she stole Colton again. I thought we had a great conversation, we hugged it out afterwards and everything,” she tells the camera, adding: “But obviously she doesn't care at all.” It sure sounds like ABC is setting up Catherine to be the season's first villain, huh? Here is the official promotional photo of her: And here's a snapshot of Catherine chatting with Colton on opening night: Will her backhanded tactics pay off? We aren't about to reveal right now whether or not Catherine makes the final four — but we do know the eventual Bachelor winner this season. “It's really frustrating because I have been waiting patiently and being respectful to all the other girls to get my time,” Courtney adds here. “Catherine's just being straight-up rude.” Check out the dramatic footage now!
