SMH: All-Female Prison Allows Male Guard To Videotape 274 Strip Search Procedures

Male Guard Allowed To Videotape Strip Search At Female Prison A Massachusetts all-female prison is coming under fire after it was revealed that male guards were allowed to film mandatory strip searches of inmates. via Think Progress At the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center, inmates who are transferred to a segregated unit are strip searched during the transfer. As part of this strip search, an inmate is required to “run her fingers through her hair, remove dentures if she wore them, raise both arms, lift her breasts, lift her stomach for visual inspection if she had a large mid-section, and remove any tampon or pad if she were menstruating. She was then required to turn around, bend over, spread her buttocks, and cough.” Throughout the transfer, including the strip search, a corrections officer would videotape the entire process. Since mid-September of 2008, a male guard was assigned the task of videotaping these strip searches on 274 different occasions. Moreover, although prison policy stated that male officers should only record the inmate “from the neck up” while the strip searches are going on, a federal court determined that 68 percent of the videos show “some or all of the women’s genitals, buttocks, or breasts.” On Tuesday, a federal trial court in Massachusetts held that it is “plainly unconstitutional to require a female inmate to expose herself, particularly to the extreme degree required during a strip search, in the presence of a male officer.” Even assuming that “the male officer doing the videotaping was able somehow to avert his eyes while using the camera,” something the defendants in this lawsuit claim that the officers actually did do, Judge Michael Ponsor explained that the search still violates the Constitution’s ban on unreasonable searches and seizures. Bossip Exclusive: Tameka Raymond Is Disappointed In “Atlanta Exes” Drama, Sheds Light On Conflicts With Torrei Hart And Sheree Buchanan

VH1’s “Hollywood Exes” spinoff “Atlanta Exes” is only three episodes in but Usher Raymond’s ex-wife Tameka is already disappointed in the direction the show has taken. Tameka Raymond Upset Over Drama On “Atlanta Exes” Caused By Producers Messy Decisions BOSSIP caught up with Raymond this week and she opened up about bumping heads with Torrei Hart and Sheree Buchanan and shared some details about how show producers have helped amp up the “messy” factor. In the first few episodes,  castmates Hart and Buchanan complain that Raymond is “mean,” but the image consultant, mother-of-five (her son Kile died two summers ago following a boating accident) says she wasn’t surprised  things took that turn. “I think I was an easy target for the “mean girl role,” Raymond told BOSSIP. “I think every reality show has to have a “villain” so it’s not a surprise to me that I’m the one designated to be that on this one.” She conceded that her Town girl roots (she hail from Oakland) and background as a stylist have only added to her opinionated personality. “Everyone around me knows I’m opinionated, but that’s not to be confused with being judgmental,” Raymond says. “I’m not saying you’re gonna go to hell if you wear a white bra. I was paid to be opinionated for so long as a wardrobe consultant. I was paid a lot of money to give my opinion especially in terms of style. I only give my opinion to people I care about. It’s not like I do it to strangers on the street.” Ironically, some of the women were relative strangers before filming the show. Raymond revealed that she only met Torrei Hart a week before filming began, but she blames their on camera clashing on their mutual outspokenness. “I think she was a perfect target as well, to put up against me,” Raymond said of producers’ decision to make conflict between the two women one of the main focal points of the show. “I think they have two outspoken people bump heads and we were both easy targets because we both speak our minds.” Hit the flip for more on Tameka Raymond’s feud with Torrei Hart from her point of view…   Instagram/Robert Ector

Race Matters: Black NFL Ref Requested Not To Officiate Any Redskins’ Games Due To Their Disrespectful And Offensive Name

This guy really earned his stripes ! First Black Referee To Work Superbowl Reveals He Asked Not To Work Redskins Games Mike Carey took a stand against racism in the NFL by silently protesting for years in his refusal to work for an organization he felt was being hateful with their stubborn resolve to keep a Native American slur as their team name. According to Washington Post reports via NY Daily News: Mike Carey, who officiated games for 24 years before retiring in 2013, told the Washington Post that he told the NFL he didn’t want to work the Redskins’ home or away games because of their disrespectful nickname. “Human beings take social stances,” Carey, the first African-American referee to work a Super Bowl, told the Post. “And if you’re respectful of all human beings, you have to decide what you’re going to do and why you’re going to do it. “In America we’ve learned that respect is the most important thing that you have. I learned it from my parents, my schools, from my faith. And when you learn there’s something that might not be as respectful as you like, when you come to terms with it, you have to do something about it.” “I know that if a team had a derogatory name for African-Americans, I would help those who helped extinguish that name. I have quite a few friends who are Native Americans. And even if I didn’t have Native American friends, the name of the team is disrespectful.” The NFL apparently had no problem with his request, as the Washington Post research showed that Carey didn’t work a Redskins game after Week 1 of the 2006 season. “The league respectfully honored my request not to officiate Washington,” he said. “When they were making assignments, I said I’d like to be excluded from those assignments.” Carey added he never talked to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the matter, instead going through the league office. Seriously we all can learn something from this example. All these people who compromise their values on the daily because it’s “part of the job” need to know it’s entirely possible to stand up for your beliefs and still be an exemplary employee. APImages
