Especially after we broke the news of Keija Minor , the newly named Editor-in-Chief of Bride’s magazine, earlier this week. While we were over here giving her a shout out, we were also struck by the staggering fact that she’s the FIRST Black Woman to ever hold the position down at Condé Nast. Ever! The publishing empire that owns 18 magazines in total, (think Bride’s, Vogue, and GQ, just to name a few), has been in the business for 103 years! So it took over a century to finally have a well-qualified African American run isht. To show you a lack in progress…hit the flip and check out the awful pattern of Black Women gracing the cover of Vogue magazine (another Condé Nast publication)… They should be ashamed of themselves…but they probably don’t even think twice about it.
Why is this broad still bringing up this old isht??? Five years after divorcing Jason Kidd, his ex-wife Joumana continues to relate stories about their drama in the press. Via NYDailyNews Confidential : After a tumultuous 10-year marriage to NBA star Jason Kidd , a messy divorce and five years raising her three kids as a single mom, Joumana Kidd is ready to come clean. “People that I never would have thought abandoned me and the kids,” she tells Metropolis Nights Magazine in an interview out in full Oct. 1. “I kept thinking everyone was going to be in one room and jump out and say, ‘Surprise! We were just kidding.’” She’s gone on to appear in VH-1’s “Let’s Talk About Pep,” but the demanding marriage prevented her from advancing her career on “Extra.” “I don’t want to say I got blackballed, but it looks like you’re not driven when you turn down work because your husband has a home game,” she said. Jason Kidd filed for divorce from Joumana in 2007, claiming that she was emotionally unstable and installed tracking devices in his car. In her counterclaim, Joumana alleged that Jason had carried on affairs with strippers, drank excessively and beat her. (Jason was arrested in 2001 for punching Joumana in the mouth.) In the interview, she opens up about an incident at a New Jersey Nets game in December 2006 when she allegedly had her son steal Kidd’s phone from the locker room so she could go through his texts and yell at him from her courtside seats. “I will say that most women put in that position would have acted the same way, or at least wanted to,” says the advice columnist. “Plus, it was blown up into something way bigger than it was. It was just his lawyers trying to paint a picture of me crossing boundaries and they did a good job of it. But it was far from the truth. And, it wasn’t as dramatic and amazing as they made it sound, although I kind of wish it was.” Jason Kidd married model Porschla Coleman in 2011, but his vices from the first marriage may still be around: The Knicks star was arrested for a DWI in Southampton in July. She does have one positive thing to say about the father of her children: “He is really is a talented and skilled basketball player.” A spokesperson for Jason Kidd had no comment. Well it took long enough!!! And even though Robney’s shady azz released them to the public, the dude still gets a side-eye from us because what millionaire Presidential Candidate doesn’t have his prior year taxes wrapped up before April 15th like the majority of us normal folk?!?! Here’s the breakdown on Money Mitts numbers: The Robneys earned $13.69 million in 2011, mostly income from his investments, and paid $1.9 million in taxes for an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. Romney earned $6.8 million from capital gains and another $3.6 million in interest. ZERO percent of his income came from wages which, you know, is the primary source of income for most Americans. Capital gains are taxed at a substantially lower rate than wages and salaries for high-earners. Romney earned about $190,000 in author and speaking fees, as well as $260,390 for sitting on the board of Marriott International. The Robneys donated $4.02 million to charity in 2011, nearly 30 percent of their income, helping to reduce their tax obligation AND the majority of Romneys’ charitable contributions went the Tyler Charitable Foundation (Romney’s own foundation). Romneys trustee released a statement saying that the Romneys only claimed a tax deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions to engineer a higher tax rate than they otherwise would have paid. This move was to “conform” to the candidate’s statement in August that he paid a federal income tax rate of at least 13 percent of his income in each of the last 10 years. According to The Washington Post… At a Republican presidential debate in January, on the same night he released his 2010 tax returns, Romney scoffed at the notion that he would pay more taxes than he is legally required. “You’ll see my income, how much taxes I’ve paid, how much I’ve paid to charity,” Romney said. “I pay all the taxes that are legally required and not a dollar more. I don’t think you want someone as the candidate for president who pays more taxes than he owes.” In case you didn’t know, Romney’s 2011 return is 379 pages long however, the 2011 return of VP candidate Paul Ryan is only 32. One other note–Romney’s 2011 income and tax obligation are significantly less than what his campaign estimated earlier in January. They released an estimate saying that Romney earned $20.9 million in 2011 and would pay about $3.2 million in taxes–for an effective rate of 15.4 percent. “The Romneys’ income can vary significantly from year to year, depending primarily on what investments are sold and how much they have appreciated or depreciated,” Davis said…the couple filed for an extension in April, as they had in prior years, because the investment information required to prepare their tax returns was not available by the April 15 tax deadline. She said, however, that all taxes owed for 2011 were paid by April 15 and that they filed their returns on Friday. Romney, like many other Americans with large investment portfolios, pays a lower tax rate than those whose incomes come from wages. Investment profits are taxed at a flat 15 percent rate, way below the highest rates taxed on “regular” wages. One last round of facts for you to take in: Barack released his 2000-2011 (Federal and Illinois) returns, Biden submitted his taxes from 1998-2011 (Federal, Delaware, and Virginia), and before that, Clinton released his taxes from 1992-1999. As far as Republicans are concerned, their release record is astounding. Mitt, Lyan, McCain, and Crazy Palin only released two years worth of taxes (Newt released one). Before that George Dubya and Shady Cheney both released 2000-2007 but…Bush only released partial returns. For tax year 2000, Bush released only his Form 1040; Cheney provided a summary of his taxes, but released no forms. SMH…Let the shadiness ensue. Set to wed Jessica Biel this year, the singer-actor, 31, was the guest of honor among a group of 20 men who “took over the dance floor table” at Tryst nightclub at the Wynn Las Vegas, a rep for the venue tells Us Weekly. Wearing a bowtie and a fedora, the Trouble With the Curve star and his posse sipped cocktails — plus Timberlake’s own liquor, 901 Tequila — as they grooved until the wee hours to the sounds of DJ Spider. “The group was very polite,” the rep says. (Another star at Tryst Thursday? Ryan Seacrest, hanging out separately with two pals, by Tryst’s 90-foot waterfall.) The crew was also spotted at Surrender Nightclub at Encore and Sinatra Restaurant at the Wynn. Although Surrender — an outdoor pool venue — was packed with models, Timberlake “was a good boy,” an eyewitness tells Us. “It was just him and his guys.” Back in January, Us Weekly broke the news that Timberlake had proposed to longtime love Biel, 30, in the mountains of Jackson, Wyoming in late December 2011. The boxer was a no show for questioning from Manny’s lawyers and the Judge smacked Money-Lovin’ Floyd with the high amount…roughly $133k in legal fees and $774 in costs. Apparently Pacquiao felt Mayweather crossed the line when the fighter accused him of using performance-enhancing drugs. Manny filed in 2009 and has denied the claims since day one. According to ESPN , Pacquiao’s team defended their suit: “Calling a professional athlete a cheater is the most serious charge one can make,” the lawsuit said. “Accusing an athlete of using performance-enhancing drugs — however baseless and lacking in evidence — is toxic.” Floyd got the news while he’s dealing with two other issues: He was caught in a domestic dispute with his ex , (and Mother of one of his daughter’s), Melissa Brim and his Boy arch nemesis 50 Cent has been tweeting pics and boasting about his new collab with Manny Pacquiao! Jennifer Williams celebrated her birthday this week with two special parties! The “Basketball Wives” beauty took to Twitter to thank God for another year… Then she took to the NYC streets to celebrate with friends. Monday night Jennifer Williams celebrated her birthday with a dinner at Millesime, the seafood brasserie at The Carlton Hotel in NYC. The former star of VH1’s “Basketball Wives” and ex-wife of NBA star Eric Williams, she was joined by friends Including Al Reynolds, Isaiah Washington and Angela Yee, among others. The group started off the dinner with the restaurant’s Caesar grille salad and enjoyed pan roasted chicken breast and tuna steak as mains with sides of creamed spinach and broccolini. The hell is going on out here?! Three Separate Universities Received Bomb Threats Today A trio of universities were disrupted by violent threats this morning although all three campuses were later determined to be safe, according to the schools. University of Texas president William Powers, Jr., said today that the school was “extremely confident” that the campus was safe and free of explosive devices as of 1 p.m., following a bomb threat placed to the school around 8:30 a.m. this morning. Shortly after the University of Texas announced its bomb threat, North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D., announced that it too had been the target of a bomb threat and was evacuating students. A third university, Valparaiso University in Indiana, announced that it had received a violent threat as well in the form of a graffiti message. All three campuses have since been cleared. Officials said they do not yet know if the threats are related. “There was always a question about the credibility of the threat. As you know there was a threat in North Dakota as well, so our evaluation continued, but we could not assure ourselves that this was not a credibile threat, so we thought the prudent thing to do was clear the buildings,” Powers said at a news conference today. This sounds like some isht right out of the movies. Around 8:30 a.m., the university received a phone call from someone with a Middle-Eastern accent who made an unspecific threat saying there were explosives in buildings on campus that would go off within 90 minutes to two hours, the university said. According to one message sent by the university to students, the man identified himself as part of Al Qaeda. The university (Texas) investigated the threats to evaluate their credibility before deciding to evacuate the campus buildings as a precaution, Powers said. Students were notified shortly before 10 a.m. to evacuate campus buildings. Law enforcement officials then swept each building on campus to ensure that it was clear of any threats, Powers said. Powers appeared along with the mayor of Austin, Lee Leffingwell, and chief of campus police, Robert Dahlstrom. “We are very confident from working with state officials, our officials, and federal officials, we can’t go into the details of why we know this, but we are extremely confident that the campus is safe,” Powers said.
