Nina Davuluri Visits Vanessa Williams Via HuffPo reports: Two women who broke color barriers and made history had the chance to meet for the first time on Wednesday. The first Indian American Miss America Nina Davuluri paid a visit to Vanessa Williams, the first African American Miss America, after Williams’ performance in her Broadway play “The Trip To Bountiful” in New York City. Both Davuluri and Williams followed a similar path to the crown by winning the title of Miss Syracuse, then Miss New York and ultimately becoming Miss America. But Davuluri’s crowning moment this week was marred by a swarm of racist, hateful comments and backlash, similar to the racism experienced by Williams when she won 30 years ago. Ciara even admits to a moments during a performance when she forgot the words to am iconic Diana Ross song: “I forgot the words. I was just recently performing at a really nice event, it was a private event. And it was like you know, some of my peers, Jamie Foxx to Pharrell and Mary J. Blige and just like people in our music were there. And sometimes when you’re around your own peers and friends, I don’t know why you’re like, you really wanna be on point because you know they know the words. And I was singing Diana Ross’ “Upside Down” and I repeated the first two bars like three times. It was weird. I messed up completely. But I just kept acting like it was all good.” The once popular singer later says she doesn’t like listening to her own music and how she makes her relationship with Future work.
