Friends rally to get deported student back home in the states

Written by Johnathan Silver, The Shorthorn Saad Nabeel could be back home by February 2011, if friends and friends of friends have something to say about it. Nabeel, a former UTA electrical engineering student, was deported to his home country of Bangladesh November 2009. His friends and supporters congregated on campus Friday to come up with a plan for his return to the states. Now, they’re eying U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to remove a 10-year ban Nabeel has from the U.S. His family lived in the United States illegally after petitions to stay failed, even though they entered the country with the government’s knowledge more than 15 years ago. When deported, the family’s green cards were in the process of being delivered. Nabeel and his mother pursued political asylum in Canada last year, but following misunderstandings, they were subjected to interrogations and eventually separated and imprisoned. Many people became aware of Nabeel’s story through national and international media. The stories may not have come to light though, if it weren’t for the existence of a Facebook page dedicated to getting Nabeel home. But don’t call the group of people a group, said organizer and UTA political science senior Priscylla Bento. Putting a name on these “individuals” would implement unnecessary protocol that groups endure, she said. “We’re just individuals, with different opinions, coming together to help Saad,” she said. Toward the end of the meeting, attendees contacted Nabeel via text message, and asked him to log on to Skype. Once he was online, meeting attendees asked Nabeel questions concerning his health. He said at first he was sick, but now he’s fine. His only challenge, he said, is dealing with not being able to leave his home since he’s unaccustomed to the foreign culture of his homeland. Beside Nabeel himself, Shawna McNary, a former classmate of Nabeel, has much institutional knowledge of Nabeel’s case. She said Nabeel is American at heart. “His favorite singer is Taylor Swift,” she said. “That says it all.” McNary, who jumped on board Nabeel’s case in the early stages, thought it was unfair for Nabeel to be put in the situation he’s in. Most people don’t think everything in their life could change one day, she said. But that will change soon, she said. “I want them to think your name when they go to sleep,” McNary told Nabeel. While the students are focusing on the U.S. Department of Justice, Nabeel’s immigration adviser Ralph Isenberg is linking Nabeel to the controversial DREAM Act. The DREAM Act is a piece of legislation under review by Congress that would create a path to legal residency for undocumented students. The amendment Isenberg suggested to senior members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, would grant the same path to students who were deported three years prior to the signing of the act. Isenberg said he considered helping Nabeel tackle the 10-year ban, but thought it just would be lost in the court system. “Is there anything that could work that could get this kid here earlier,” he said. “That’s when I thought about the DREAM Act.” Isenberg said Nabeel meets the other requirements for the benefits of the DREAM Act, but the amendment, which he’s considering having named “The Saad Amendment,” would serve Nabeel well. “I thought 'this guy [Nabeel] is a shoo-in,'” he said. “But it’s not just for Saad.” http://www.theshorthorn.com/content/view/19868/265/ added by: Jdharden

Bay of Bengal Island Vanished Under the Sea

For India it is known to be The New Moore Island and for Bangladesh it is the South Talpatti Island. The two countries has been fighting for territorial claims of this island for years. As of this time, they won’t be fighting for it anymore because nature itself has claimed it as his own. The island has already vanished under the sea. Recent satellites images show the whole island under water, says the School of Oceanographic Studies in Calcutta. The nearby islands might as well follow it due to rising of sea level. “What these two countries could not achieve from years of talking, has been resolved by global warming,” said Professor Sugata Hazra of the School of Oceanographic Studies at Jadavpur University in Calcutta. If anyone would wish to visit the island right now, well, you would probably be needing a submarine already. These loss of lands has been an annual event in which Bangladeshis has already accepted. Lil Wayne, Shanell Deny They’re Having A Baby

‘It’s so foolish we’ve haven’t paid it any attention,’ Shanell tells MTV News of rumors. By Hillary Crosley, with additional reporting from Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne and Shanell Photo: Prince Williams/ATLPics.net Lil Wayne may have an impending jail sentence, but in recent days some news about the MC has set the Internet chatter ablaze: Does he have another baby on the way? The Cash Money MC has been spotted attending events and snuggling with a new artist on his Young Money label named Shanell. The Massachusetts-born/Atlanta-raised songstress (real name: Shanell Woodgett), sister of former Danity Kane member D. Woods, began as a background dancer for artists like Kandi Burress, Petey Pablo and Ne-Yo before deciding to write songs. Teaming with her high school friend and producer Bangladesh, Shanell recorded a demo tape and aimed to become an artist herself along with writing for other people. She met Wayne while serving as a back-up dancer for Ne-Yo during the Up Close and Personal Tour (which featured the rapper along with Chris Brown) and eventually passed the rapper Bangladesh’s beat for “A Milli,” which became a huge street hit for the Young Money leader. Soon after, Shanell joined Lil Wayne’s artist enclave and began recording, touring and performing her single “Play in My Band” as well as co-writing songs for Wayne. Now, as she preps her as-yet-untitled debut album, Shanell said the rumors about whether she’s dating Lil Wayne have run rampant but have no basis in reality. “Basically it came from a corny rumor that escalated,” Shanell told MTV News.”First I was dating him, then I was his girlfriend, then we were getting married, then we were settling down and now I’m pregnant. It’s so foolish we’ve haven’t paid it any attention.” So what of the widely circulated photo where the two are hugging? “We’re taking a picture,” she said. The singer-songwriter says that the dating rumors were fine, but the pregnancy chatter was not. “All the rest of the rumors were kinda funny except that one,” she admitted. “When my mother called me like, ‘Um?,’ [I was] like, ‘No! Are you serious?’ I don’t care about the rumors, but I just want people to know that I’m not pregnant. I’ve got an album coming out, I’m a dancer, I’m in shape and children are not anywhere in my future.” Lil Wayne agrees. “Let me clear up this rumor, man: Shanell is not pregnant from me,” Wayne said in a serious tone on a Ustream video last weekend. “Shanell isn’t even pregnant! Period. Clear that up right now, man. Everybody talking about Shanell pregnant by … No, she not even pregnant. Period.” Lil Wayne may not be the father this go round, but he saw the birth of three sons — from an unnamed Ohio native, singer Nivea Nash and actress Lauren London — between 2008 and 2009 alone. His first child’s name is Reginae Carter, from his marriage to Toya Carter. Related Photos Lil Wayne, Drake Celebrate Shanell’s Birthday Related Artists Lil Wayne

Chris Brown Releases Collaboration With Soulja Boy Tell’em On Mixtape

‘Bad’ makes its way onto the singer’s Valentine’s Day offering with DJ Drama, In My Zone. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Chris Brown ‘s much-discussed collaboration with Soulja Boy Tell’em was released over the weekend as a part of the singer’s Valentine’s Day mixtape effort with DJ Drama. The project, titled In My Zone, features a number of remakes, as Brown borrows notable songs such as Trey Songz’s “Say Aah” and “I Invented Sex” and Timbaland and Drake’s “Say Something.” The track with Soulja Boy, “Bad,” was initially slated for inclusion on Brown’s Graffiti album. He told MTV News about the track last November and described the number as “a nice little joint.” “Well, me and him, we been on tour together and we’re friends, so I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do a record with Soulja Boy,’ ” Brown explained of the tune, which was produced by Bangladesh (“A Milli,” “Diva”). “Because me and him are always gonna have, like, this kind of energy, just as far as kids, and with him, he does records that are, like, the easiest records ever. I’m not discrediting him, ’cause they’re big records, but he could talk about, ‘I got my shoes on, I got my hat on, but I’m fresh though,’ and it could be something funny. But it’s always something that can be catchy for kids, and I wanna do something that’s real cool for everybody.” “She looking at me, I’m looking at she, she’s bad as a mutha,” Brown sings over the staccato production. “She bad, she bad, she badder, hop up in my jag, my jag, my Jaguar,” the “Crank Dat” rapper spits. Soulja also spoke to MTV News last year about the track, saying if he and the “Crawl” star ever worked together the outcome would have to be phenomenal. “My approach to it was, if me and Chris Brown ever did a song together it got to be the best song ever,” he said. “When people hear it, it gotta be automatic, be in all the kids’ heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, ‘What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?’ ” What do you think of Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Tell’em’s song “Bad”?
