15 Insanely Popular Lady Gaga YouTube Videos

You may have heard that Lady Gaga is the first music artist to reach one billion online video views. Some of us here at Mashable say that’s downright ridiculous — a tragedy, even — but other staffers are cheering her on. And while we may not be able to agree on the merits of her music, we did think it would be appropriate to celebrate the occasion with 15 of the best Gaga YouTube videos. Watch these videos and tell us if you can figure out why Gaga has outdone all the competition — why does she appeal so much to the YouTube-browsing, web-savvy crowd? Maybe she’s just in the right place at the right time, maybe her label’s Vevo music video strategy is responsible, or maybe there’s just something undefinable about Gaga’s global appeal. These videos might serve up some hints. Music videos are at the top, everything else is farther down. Enjoy the music, Gaga disciples! Everyone else: Enjoy trying to figure out what all the fuss is about. Table of Contents – Music Video: “Bad Romance” – Music Video: “Telephone” feat. This early video of Stefani Germanotta — Gaga before she was Gaga — shows a young songwriter singing and playing the piano like Norah Jones without any elaborate costumes or electronic gimmicks. You might be surprised at what you hear and see here. Tutorial: Lady Gaga “Poker Face” Makeup Want to look as outrageously glamorous as Lady Gaga? Here’s how. Cover: Christopher Walken Performs “Poker Face” Campy movie star and regular SNL host Christopher Walken appeared on the BBC one Halloween to read some Gaga lyrics. That’s an awful lot of weird in one minute. Cover: “Bad Romance”/”Poker Face” Acoustic Ballad We were originally going to include a far more popular acoustic Gaga cover , but when looking for it we stumbled on this one and decided to include it instead. It has only a few thousand views, but it is unexpectedly beautiful. Mashup: Gaga in Wonderland Tim Burton’s cinematic reinvention of Alice in Wonderland is a web video hit in its own right. This mashup brings Gaga to Wonderland in Alice’s place. She fits right in. Mashup: South Park Does Lady Gaga on Rock Band (Extended Mix) This is an extended version of a very short clip of South Park ’s Cartman singing a Lady Gaga song with his buddies while playing a Rock Band -like music video game. The original clip went viral shortly after the episode aired, then Lady Gaga’s songs came to Rock Band in real life. Coincidence? Probably. But it’s fun to think maybe they were related! Parody: “Poker Face” (“Outer Space”) The joke here seems to be that Lady Gaga is a space alien. Fair enough, but the video isn’t as funny as the other parodies below. At more than 21 million views, however, it is much more popular. Parody: “Bad Romance” ( Key of Awesome ) This episode of Next New Networks’ Key of Awesome funny music video web series helped the series make its appearance in our January webisodes chart . It’s pulled in just shy of eight million views so far. Parody: “Telephone” ( Key of Awesome ) After the “Bad Romance” was so well received, Key of Awesome tried to make lightning strike twice with a parody of Gaga’s new video “Telephone.” This new video was just plugged on Perez Hilton ’s celebrity gossip blog, so expect it to get some serious traffic. India to Lindsay Lohan: GTF Out!

We can totally see an exclusive nightclub or fashion show simply not wanting to deal with the train wreck that is Lindsay Lohan and denying her admittance. The world’s largest democracy blacklisting her, however? Britain’s Telegraph reports that government officials in India are mulling whether to ban Lohan permanently from the nation following her December visit. Too bad she has U.S. citizenship and we can’t follow suit. Filming a BBC documentary about child labor and human trafficking, Lohan claimed she saved 40 kids’ lives in a single day during a raid on a sweatshop. The good news: Those kids were in fact rescued. The bad news? Not by Lindsay. The alleged actress and milkaholic apparently played no actual role in it. Lindsay did go to India. After that, the facts are as blurry as this pic . “Over 40 children saved so far … All within one day’s work … This is what life is about … Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!” Lindsay bragged on Twitter. Activists were offended by her boast, and pointed out that the actress arrived in India after the raids in question, and played no part in rescuing the kids. This led officials to discover she violated India’s visa rules: Lohan failed to apply for a work visa for the trip, and illegally filmed a documentary as a tourist. The Telegraph writes that civil servants in New Delhi are now investigating the case to determine whether Lohan will be added to an immigration blacklist. So basically, she used the trip to highlight the superficiality of celebrity life, while trying to superficially score points for going, as she didn’t do anything. Way to go, Linds. Just stick to posing like Jesus next time.

Lindsay Lohan: Maybe Banned From India

According to the British newspaper “The Telegraph”, actress Lindsay Lohan could possibly be banned from India. Last December, the actress tried to divert herself from Hollywood spitefulness by working on a BBC documentary on child labor. However, when she was tweeted about her participation in a raid where they rescued children from a sweatshop, this drama had overshadowed her trip. She wrote that as of now, there were 40 children saved within a day’s work. Doing this act is a life worth living. The conflict was that Lohan was not fair to India during the raid. The actress was caught up in much bigger trouble, as her false accusations evoked her profile to authorities of India. They discovered that Lohan had come into the country on a tourist visa instead of a work visa for this documentary, and thus this is considered as illegal. Bhuwan Ribhu, an activist with the Indian organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Campaign), said that the actress visited one of their rehabilitation facilities during the course of filming. She also spoke with children at one of the group’s Delhi facilities. Ribhu explained that their group had no idea about her visa status because they were working with the BBC and not particularly with the actress. Actress Lindsay Lohan may not be able to re-enter India. Authorities are now studying her case and will rule on the matter, according to the British newspaper “The Telegraph” Lindsay Lohan: Maybe Banned From India is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Jennifer Aniston Doesn’t Like Grumpy Actors

The Bounty Hunter’s Jennifer Aniston has said she hates stars who are grumpy on the set of movies. The 41-year-old actress appears opposite Gerard Butler , 40, in the new movie and when asked by BBC Radio One Newsbeat if she throws on a fit, the actress said no. “No, I pretty much like to work and I’m generally just in a good mood. There was one day we were frustrated – we were having a tough time with the scene – but other than that no. I’m pretty much happy to be here. Whenever you see certain people on sets that are less than good-moody and not well behaved I find it extremely unattractive and I’m not a fan of that behavior.” Wonder if Gerard was ever grumpy on the set?

Fawning Political Interviews Have Ruined American Politics [Softball]

Howell Raines hit out at Fox News for ruining political debate . But it’s not just Fox . By softballing and coddling interviewees, all of television news has helped politicians get away with appalling lies, distortions and… being Sarah Palin . Put simply: almost without exception, American political interviewers fawn and simper over their subjects, refuse to ask a question more than once and never call bullshit on blatant bullshit. If anchors, interviewers and White House correspondents did their job — to hold elected officials accountable, by their lapels if necessary — politicians of all stripes could not get away with distorting and outright lying, as they do now. Rove-ian veneers would simply be scraped away by the eight words ‘that is not true, please answer my question’. If they were repeated enough on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC it would mean no birthers. No myths about healthcare or rumors of death panels. No paranoid lies about creeping socialism. No George W. Bush. No Sarah Palin. Take, for example, Palin’s 2008 claim to ABC ‘s Charlie Gibson that because she could “actually see Russia from land here in Alaska,” she had foreign policy experience. Imagine if he’d thrown it directly back to her with follow-up questions. What bearing does this have on your ability to make policy? Are you seriously telling us that your qualifications are based on proximity? I put it to you, Governor Palin, that if you have to rely on such a shabby justification, you are woefully lacking. The resulting stammering and incoherence would have sent her limping back to Wasilla. Instead she was, and is, coddled. There is a quote passed around in British journalism, which has a more robust tradition. Every interviewer is instructed to ask themselves, when facing a politician, “why is this bastard lying to me?” Jeremy Paxman, a BBC interrogator, once asked a very senior member of the government a question 14 times ( video here , skip to about 3.30) simply because he evaded it. Next time Republican Congressman Eric Cantor is on your TV lying glibly about his party’s “no cost jobs plan,” or a government takeover of healthcare, picture an interviewer like Paxman, with the facts at his or her fingertips, making him eat his falsehoods live on air. Then consider how that might affect the level of honesty in his next appearance. It is not easy to be confrontational. These are wealthy, powerful, intimidating people who can choose who they talk to. So reporters make an excuse for practicing Hollywood-style access journalism: they claim their job is to ask the questions, air the responses and let the people judge. They are mere conduits. This, to be frank, is pathetic. Take a look at the dysfunction in DC for evidence. All the stations, from Fox to MSNBC , are doing is validating absurd lies by airing them as news. Politicians should fear, to their very cores, being interviewed by people other than Jon Stewart. We need to stop blaming Fox , and start asking questions. Repeatedly.

Gerard Butler’s Stank Face

Gerard Butler looks like he caught a whif of something nasty on his way into the BBC Radio One studio for an interview on the Scott Mills show.
