There were a bunch of Super Bowl-themed events happening in New York over the weekend, but I think this one might be my favorite: DirecTV’s 8th Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl. Forget the Puppy Bowl, there’s nothing cuter than Nina Dobrev in spandex. Anyway, I just don’t understand why I wasn’t invited to participate. If Dr. Oz qualifies as a celebrity, I should too. So, yeah. As public service announcements go, this one definitely takes an unexpected turn about halfway through, and goes where most PSAs do not. Australian ad agency Henry & Aaron created the spot, in which teenagers sneak out of their homes and go AWOL from school, hitting the beach instead. They’re having a freaking blast until things go wrong. Like, horribly wrong. Spoiler alert: Staying in school might have been a better move on this day. Why, specifically? Take a guess, then watch and see if it was anywhere close: Set Yourself Free – Stay in School PSA Certainly a more literal approach to the typical “Stay in School” scare tactics we’re accustomed to seeing, with a bit of dark comedy thrown in there. If the specific takeaway is that you shouldn’t frolic on a beach adjacent to a weapons testing facility while truant from school? Point made and then some. If the broader message is that skipping school is akin to putting your life in danger? Murkier. Tell us, would this have kept you from playing hooky in school? GPS records from the rented Lamborghini Justin Bieber was driving when he was arrested for DUI show the star may not have been racing after all. Miami Beach police claimed they noticed Bieber and his friend Khalil (who drove a red Ferrari) drag racing and that’s why the guys were stopped. Cops also say they were driving between 55-60 m.p.h. Both claims may not hold water , however, based on the GPS system inside Justin’s ride. Justin Bieber Drag Racing At 4:07 a.m. Justin left the club and zoomed away at a maximum speed of 44 m.p.h. Two minutes later, the GPS registered a max speed of 27. Police say the race took place on the 2600 block of Pine Tree Drive. Justin Bieber then came to a stop and was then arrested on the 4100 block. However, the 27 m.p.h. reading was taken smack in the middle of the supposed drag race … not exactly racing speed. Also under the speed limit (30). Police also say that a pair of Cadillac Escalades were stopped on Pine Tree Drive to block traffic so that Bieber and his buddy could drag race. One of them turned off at 2:35, when Justin’s dad Jeremy Bieber (who was in the Escalade) went inside the Miami Beach nightclub with his son. They were there until 4:06 a.m., at which point the Escalade started rolling and didn’t stop until Justin was arrested . It never stopped for any race. This is very problematic for the police, because if the entire basis for pulling over Bieber’s car proves false, it could derail the case against the singer. Justin Bieber’s private plane, headed to the Super Bowl this weekend in New Jersey, was detained Friday under suspicion that it was carrying marijuana. Try to remove your jaws from the floor, Beliebers. We know you’re stunned. The plane had just arrived at Teterboro Airport at 2:53 p.m. from Toronto when authorities detected what was described as “a strong odor of pot” on board. The plane, believed to be a twin-jet Raytheon Hawker 800, was ordered held for drug-sniffing dogs to check out the contents and people on board. It was not clear if the singer was aboard, though he planned to fly from his native Canada so he could take in the Super Bowl and pre-game festivities. No word on which of his douchebag friends were on the aircraft or if airport officials can find a way to just deport Justin Bieber back to Canada on the spot. Wishful thinking, we know … but it would be a popular decision, no doubt. The incident comes after Toronto authorities charged him with assault on Wednesday, and Miami police arrested him for DUI and other charges last week.
