Lady Gaga To Receive Style Icon Award

The pop superstar will receive the prize at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards on June 6 in New York City. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, as the trade organization announced on Wednesday night that the pop star will be among its 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards winners, the Associated Press reports . Gaga will be presented with the style icon award at this year’s ceremony, which will take place on June 6 in New York City. CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and executive director Steven Kolb made the announcement at the DVF Studio in the Big Apple, where all the nominations were made public for the event. Also set to be recognized at the CFDA Awards is designer Marc Jacobs, will who will receive the lifetime achievement award. According to von Furstenberg, Jacobs e-mailed her noting that he didn’t think he was old enough for the honor and that he wanted it renamed the “half-lifetime award.” She explained to the fashionistas in the room, “I told him that I’m much older than him and I’m still kicking.” In addition, Jacobs garnered a nomination for the womenswear designer of the year prize, as did Alexander Wang and the design duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler. The Olsen twins are also up for an award. They will be competing in the womenswear category for emerging talent for their collection The Row, going up against Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra. The International Award will go to Phoebe Philo, who designs for Celine and who gets a shout-out from Kanye West on “Dark Fantasy,” the lead cut from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. Other 2011 CFDA nominees include Wang, Phillip Lim and Robert Geller in the up-and-coming menswear designer category, and Alejandro Ingelmo, Eddie Borgo, Pamella Love and Jason Wu for accessories. Now former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is finally getting the final compliment for her closets full of high design: a little girl to share them with. Victoria and her soccer playing husband David Beckham announced that their fourth child will be a girl, according to a report originally on ESPN . Due in January, the child will join older brothers Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz. “Obviously, we’re very lucky to be expecting again, and this is the first time I’m going to say it: It’s a little girl,” Beckham told assembled Galaxy fans at an event for the Los Angeles based Major League Soccer franchise. “We’re still in shock. Obviously, having three boys, you kind of expect another one, so finding out a little girl is in there is surprising, but, obviously, we are over the moon. Our three boys are happy and excited, and Victoria is doing well.” The pair didn’t know the sex of the baby until very recently, with Victoria telling reporters in February that she would be happy with a child of either gender. “We know what to do with boys [and my other children are] excited about having a little brother to teach how to play soccer,” she told USA Today at an event to promote her new fashion line. “But, if it’s a girl, we’d be over the moon as well.” The former “Posh Spice” and her husband currently live in Beverly Hills, where the 36-year-old David is in the final year of his much criticized five-year contract with the Galaxy. Twice a runner-up for FIFA World Player of the Year, Beckham became the highest paid player in the league when he moved from Real Madrid to sign his deal in 2007. By Shawn Adler Kanye West Photo: Shirlaine Forrest/ WireImage Kanye West is heading back to Austin, with news that the multi-hyphenate will make a special appearance at the South By Southwest Music and Film Festival, according to a report on Idolator.com . Fans looking to catch the star will have to stay up late, as the “All of the Lights” singer will reportedly take the stage on March 19 at midnight on at the VEVO Power Station. For Kanye, the trip marks a return visit to the celebrated festival. Alongside several special guests, including Mr. Hudson and Big Sean, the 14 time Grammy winning 33-year-old last rocked the Texas stage in 2009. Bu while many of the biggest tracks off his most recent LP My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy feature guest performances from some of hip-hop’s most famous names, including Rihanna on “All of the Lights,” and Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj on “Monster,” no special guests have yet been announced for the upcoming show. West last performed with Rihanna at half time of the 2011 NBA All-Star Game on February 20. Performing at South By Southwest comes at the tail-end of a busy few months for the 2010 MTV Man of the Year , who released his latest record last November. His fifth studio effort, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and has been certified platinum with over a million sales. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Kanye West has been quiet, by his standards, ever since releasing his last album, and most assume the MC/producer went off the radar to finish working on his collaboration album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne. But now, it seems, ‘Ye has more in store than just his project with Hov. According to a tweet by Los Angeles spin doctor DJ Franzen, West has recruited Big Sean and Drake for the remix to his current single, “All of the Lights.” “Drizzy murdered the ‘All of the Lights’ remix with @kanyewest,” the DJ wrote . “He played it at the Suite Party last night! I heard it 1st last Sat.” A verse from the Thank Me Later star originally appeared on an early version of “All of the Lights” that landed online before the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But on the album version, Drake is one of a many vocalists, including Rihanna , Elton John, Fergie, La Roux , John Legend and more, and his voice is indistinguishable from the others on the track. Drake’s earlier verse will reportedly be replaced with a new set of rhymes for the remix, according to Complex magazine. Last last year, in an interview with Eminem’s Shade 45 satellite radio show, Drake talked about his “All of the Lights” contribution not making Yeezy’s album. “Kanye’s creative process is ever-changing,” Drake explained. “We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas ‘Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. Kobe Bryant Talks Recruiting Kanye West For Nike Film

By Alvin Blanco Kobe Bryant in “The Black Mamba” Photo: Nike NBA legend-in-the-making Kobe Bryant’s nickname is the Black Mamba, so a movie based on that tag was probably inevitable. Bryant, Nike and director Robert Rodriguez created a short film titled “The Black Mamba” that serves as an ad for his latest signature shoe, the Nike Zoom Kobe VI. The four-time NBA All-Star MVP spoke to MTV News about the spot and getting Kanye West onboard. “Well, it was just us talking,” Bryant told us of recruiting ‘Ye, during All-Star weekend. “We’ve known each other for quite some time, so when the idea came up to do a spot like this, he’s the first person I thought of.” Besides Bryant and West, actors Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo also make appearances in the six-minute spot. Nike previewed the short film at NBA All-Star Weekend festivities on Friday night at the W Hotel in Hollywood before officially debuting it online the next day. After the film was shown at the W, West hit the stage and performed his verse from “H.A.M.” (from his upcoming Watch the Throne project with Jay-Z) to a crowd that included LeBron James and Amar’e Stoudemire. “It was incredible,” Bryant said of Yeezy’s performance. “It just put a cap on the whole night. We aired the spot and then brought him out to perform and it kind of just took it over the top.” Bryant and West were in the same building again on Sunday afternoon for the NBA All-Star Game at the Staples Center, where Kobe went off in front of his hometown crowd for 37 points and 14 rebounds, earning him his fourth All-Star Game MVP trophy . Meanwhile, West hit the stage at halftime, closing out Rihanna’s set with a performance of “All of the Lights” from his platinum My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Later that evening, the LA Lakers guard added to his trophy case as he accepted a “He Got Game” statue at the Cartoon Network Hall of Game Awards . Kanye West May Join Rihanna At NBA All-Star Halftime Show

The Deadspin sports blog cited an unnamed “in-the-know-tipster” on Wednesday in reporting that Kanye West will “make a surprise appearance during Rihanna’s halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles on Sunday.” It’s possible the two will perform the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy track “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna singing alongside ‘Ye, Elton John, Fergie, Alicia Keys and more. It would make sense since that song is tipped to be the next single from West’s album and a music video is reportedly in the works. It’s not like Yeezy hasn’t expressed his love for the game before, including just recently, when he appeared in the Robert Rodriguez-directed short film promoting Kobe Bryant’s new line of Nike shoes. A representative for West had no comment when reached by MTV News to confirm the rumor, and reps for Rihanna and the NBA had not returned calls for comment at press time. In addition to Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz has been tapped to play at the game, performing before the tip-off during player introductions. Josh Groban will sing the national anthem and Melanie Fiona will do the honors on the Canadian anthem, while the “What’s My Name?” singer will provide the entertainment during the half. On Saturday, during the All-Star Saturday Night show, Keri Hilson will sing the national anthem and Cee Lo Green will serve up some “Forget You” during the three-point shooting contest. The Sprite Slam Dunk contest will be preceded by Far East Movement, who’ll perform their new single, “Rocketeer.” Friday night’s entertainment will be provided by Cali Swag District, who will “Teach Me How to Dougie” during the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam, which, like all of the All-Star events , will be shown on TNT.
