Another week, another beauty pageant scandal… On Saturday night, Karlie Hay was crowned Miss Teen USA, representing the state of Texas and taking home the crown over four other finalists (who were all blonde-haired and blue-eyed). But it didn’t take long afterward for a few comments from Hay’s past to come back and haunt her. An astute Twitter user has tracked down a number of Tweets Hay sent in 2013 in which she dropped the N-Word on multiple occasions. It’s difficult to make out the context of this racial epithet use based on the following messages… … but what context could there really be for white woman to use this word that would make it remotely acceptable? Former Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford read about the scandal and decided to speak out on Twitter regarding Hay’s controversial past. “I can take the #missteenusa top 5 being an all white, all blonde top 5. What I can’t take is – why didn’t the winner clean up her page?” Crawford wrote on social media. “If u win any pageant – first things first. Clean up ur page. Cus if ur under 21 u shouldn’t b drinking&if ur WHITE the n word ain’t yo word!” We may have phrased it differently, but she makes some good points. Once Hay’s Tweets went viral, Karlie issued a public Mea Culpa that reads as follows: “Several years ago, I had many personal struggles and found myself in a place that is not representative of who I am as a person. I admit that I have used language publicly in the past which I am not proud of and that there is no excuse for,” she wrote on Instagram. She went on: “Through hard work, education and thanks in large part to the sisterhood that I have come to know through pageants, I am proud to say that I am today a better person. “I am honored to hold this title and I will use this platform to promote the values of The Miss Universe Organization, and my own, that recognize the confidence, beauty and perseverance of all women.” View Slideshow: 19 Ugly Beauty Pageant Scandals Soon afterward, The Miss Universe Organization issued a statement to E! News. “The language Karlie Hay used is unacceptable at any age and in no way reflects the values of The Miss Universe Organization. As Karlie stated, she was in a different place in her life and made a serious mistake she regrets and for which she sincerely apologizes,” the statement read. “Karlie learned many lessons through those personal struggles that reshaped her life and values. We as an organization are committed to supporting her continued growth.” Hay is only 18 years old. She’s young and we all make mistakes. Rapper Diamond Talks Being Puerto Rican, Releasing A Spanish Song While on the latest episode of Bossip’s “Don’t Be Scared” podcast, rapper Diamond of Crime Mob fame revealed her Puerto Rican heritage. According to her, her Latina roots have inspired her to release a song in Spanish. “A lot of people don’t know that I’m a Boricua, so I have a record on there where I’m rapping in Spanish so I did have help with that. 12-Year-Old Black Girl’s Classmates Drag Her By Makeshift Noose Bullying has become a bigger and bigger problem in schools across the nation, even costing some students their lives in the long run. One family has sued a local school system not only because their daughter was being bullied, but also because the school seemed to turn a blind eye as she was physically attacked repeatedly due to the color of her skin — to the point of a near lynching. Via TheDailyBeast : The family of a black sixth grader in Texas is suing her school after white students allegedly wrapped a rope around her neck and pulled her to the ground. The $3-million lawsuit accuses Live Oak Classical School in Waco of negligence, gross negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The lead attorney on the case is Levi McCathern, who represents the Dallas Cowboys. According to the lawsuit, KP’s mother chose Live Oak—a largely white private school with a pricey tuition rate—and applied for scholarship grants so that her daughter could attend an institution with a “better education” and a “wholesome learning environment.” In the next year though, the lawsuit claims KP encountered bullying at the school that was not disciplined. An email from KP’s mom in the lawsuit from November alleges that a boy repeatedly pushed and shoved her 12-year-old daughter. But things went far beyond pushing and shoving one day in April when the class took a field trip offsite. The boys that taunted KP took things up a notch when faced with a park swing… But the main complaint against the school comes from an April field trip to Germer Ranch in Blanco County, Texas. KP and several other children were said to have come across a swing with long rope was attached so children could pull it, the lawsuit states. The lawsuit states KP was standing to the side of the swing when three white males, including one who allegedly bullied her in the past, pulled the rope back and wrapped it around her neck. The boys then violently jerked KP to the ground, the family claims, leaving abrasions on her neck. Jeremy Counseller, a board member for the school, told the Dallas Morning News that “Live Oak takes the safety of its students seriously and is saddened that one of its family suffered an unfortunate accident and injury.” Counseller described what happened as “accident.” HOW are injuries of this caliber an “accident?” This looks deliberate and extremely racially driven, if you ask us. Sounds like the school did little to protect this little Black girl from her tormenters…so hopefully the family gets every dime they are asking for…
