Obama’s Science Czar Congress is Too Stupid To Understand Climate Change

More:

John Holdren, the President’s Science Czar has an unusual explanation for why there is no cap and trade legislation coming from congress. It has nothing to do with the fact that the latest research casts grave doubt over the Global Warming theory, nor does it have anything to do with the fact that now many believers in global warming say that man has very little to do with the trend, nope like most… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : YID With LID Discovery Date : 31/01/2011 06:11 Number of articles : 2

Judson Birza, Survivor Nicaragua Winner, Arrested for Illegal Skateboarding

Judson Birza, who won what many consider to have been the most boring season in Survivor history, was arrested yesterday. For an equally unexciting reason. The reality show champion was stopped by Santa Monica police because he was skateboarding in the street, which is a crime in the city. Due to his subsequent strange behavior, Birza was booked on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Police also discovered an unrelated DUI warrant, as well as a probation violation, on Birza’s record when he was taken into custody. Judson is being held on $37,000 bail.

How to Turn Local Water Conservation into Good Business (Video)

Photo via CMAFDA At what may have been the most interesting session at this year’s Clinton Global Initiative — a discussion with leaders from big business and nonprofit orgs on how to find market solutions for protecting the environment — Dr. Sanjayan, the lead scientist of the Nature Conservancy, discussed his agency’s promising large-scale project to turn combating water crises around the world with market-based ‘water protection’ plans. The video after the jump explains: … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Gallup Poll Finds Continuing Mistrust of Newspapers, Television News

Lymari Morales at Gallup reports that confidence in the news media remains low. Remember when they suggest high negatives for politicians, they are hardly popular, either. They’re “on par with Americans’ lackluster confidence in banks and slightly better than their dismal rating of Health Management Organizations and big business .” The report began: Americans continue to express near-record-low confidence in newspapers and television news — with no more than 25% of Americans saying they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in either. These views have hardly budged since falling more than 10 percentage points from 2003-2007…. The decline in trust since 2003 is also evident in a 2009 Gallup poll that asked about confidence and trust in the “mass media” more broadly . While perceptions of media bias present a viable hypothesis, Americans have not over the same period grown any more likely to say the news media are too conservative or too liberal . One of the ironies of Gallup’s annual Confidence in Institutions survey is that young Americans express the most trust in newspapers — while they’re the least likely to read them. That certainly paints a picture of blind trust:   Confidence is hard to find, even among Democrats and liberals, who have historically been the most trusting of the news media. While 18- to 29-year-olds express more trust in newspapers than most older Americans, Gallup polling has found they read national newspapers the least . Younger Americans also expressed more confidence than older Americans in several other institutions tested, including Congress, the medical system, and the criminal justice system, suggesting younger Americans are more confident in institutions in general. Perhaps the most interesting part of this survey comes in the chart. If you look at 1993 and compare it to 2010, newspapers haven’t fallen too far, from 31 percent with “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence then to 25 percent now. But television news has fallen much harder: from 46 percent in 1993 to 22 percent now.

Spain Won Over Netherlands! 1-0 in an Overtime Game

That was just amazing! Defeating the undefeated would have been the most amazing that ever happened to Spain. It was just a sad end for the Dutch team. With the score of 1-0 in over an time game. Though Spanish fans has been out-shined by the orange color, their vuvuzelas were the loudest when the final whistle blew. It has been a record breaking game wherein a record breaking 13 yellow cards were given. Quite a dirty game though. Nevertheless, Spain just emerged to win the game with Andres Iniesta as their man. He took a pass from Ces Fabregas in the penalty area and took an 8 yards, right-foot shot past th outstretched arms of Dutch goal keeper Maarten Stekeleberg. This has been the third failure of the Dutch team to grab the title. Two of which were in 1974 and 1978. 2010 World Cup has been the most bitter among the 3 because the team has been undefeated in the tournament and qualified first. It was such a bitter ending. Amazingly, the Dutch team has now become the team having the most number of victories without a title in World Cup. Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque was lifted in the air by his men as they celebrate their victory. Goal Iker Castillas accepted their elegant trophy fomr FIFA president Sepp Blatter. Paul the octopus just predicted everything right but credits should be given for the amazing Spaniards. That was such a nice game. On DVD: Criterion, Close-Up Brilliantly Take Us Back to the (Iranian) New Wave

Every New Wave must go the way of all flesh eventually, and it does seem as though the Iranian New Wave has faded into history. Don’t tell me you missed it. A prickly, pressurized cataract of neo-realist film wisdom that more or less began for most of us in the early ’90s with the festival appearances of Abbas Kiarostami’s Close-Up , the Iranian wave may have been the most significant national breakout movement since Godard bounced his day job. A product if anything was of the country’s Islamic revolution, the films (by Kiarostami, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Bahman Ghobadi, Jafar Panahi, etc.) weren’t stylish tubthumpers but patient and elliptical puzzles, humane but challenging, machine-pressed by the Sharia strictures on society and media into a kind of whole-grain eloquence.

Caddy Tees Off on Tiger Woods

A lot of people were privy to Tiger Woods’ sordid double life, helping the world’s top golfer arrange and conceal a string of affairs with at least a dozen mistresses . His caddy, Steve Williams, was not one of those people. The New Zealander, who has been on the bag for Tiger since 1999, is ticked, saying he was totally in the dark, and would have blown the whistle had he known. “I knew nothing. That’s my answer,” Williams said in an interview with New Zealand’s TV3. “Nothing. Don’t need to clarify, extend my answer, I knew nothing.” The scandal has “been the most difficult time of my life, because every single person believed I should know, that I did know or had something to do with it.” Tiger Woods can add his caddy to those seeking an apology . Williams said that while he doesn’t feel personally slighted by the golfer’s extramarital affairs, he is nevertheless “disappointed that he’s let his family down.” “I mean, I’m close with [ Elin Woods ] and he’s got two lovely children and he’s let them down, I’m not mad at him towards me … I stand by Tiger as a friend.” “I don’t talk to him about what’s happened. I talk to him about the future and what we are going to try and accomplish and how we’re gonna get over it.” “Obviously, at some point in time, I’ll have a conversation with him, but right now is not that point in time,” Williams said. “I’m fully supportive of him and I’d like to see him get back on the PGA tour – so that’s my role right now.” Tiger is still trying to get Elin to move back home with him. Follow the jump for a clip of Steve Williams’ comments … Teeing Off
