Do fictional shows need disclaimers? Or have we gone warning crazy?

Actress Kathryn Joosten, a lung cancer survivor, recently suggested that Mad Men producers should be including a disclaimer on the show saying that smoking is hazardous to your health. Aside from smoking, there are plenty of other ill-advised decisions made by the characters on the show. Should we include warnings for those as well? Perhaps one against false identities or cheating on your wife? In this day and age, is the fact that smoking causes cancer something that we need to be reminded of? Or should we assume viewers recognize that the behavior depicted in the show is a reflection of a different time and place, where we didn’t have the information we do now? added by: sgwhites

ABC News Issues "Reprimand" To Their Ground Zero Mosque Plant

ABC News has reprimanded one of its employees for trying to start some kind of ruckus during Sunday’s Ground Zero Mosque protest. A freelance audio operator covering a protest at the site of a proposed mosque and community center near Ground Zero has been reprimanded for his behavior. Andrea Lafferty , who was a speaker at the mosque opposition rally, first noticed the audio operator questioning a man in the crowd who was holding a sign which read, “No Sharia Here.” ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider tells TVNewser the network has looked into Lafferty’s complaint and agrees that the tech “aggressively” questioned members of the crowd with his personal camera. Adds Schneider, “He was not instructed to perform interviews or to engage with protesters and was there solely as an audio tech. He has been reprimanded for his behavior at this event.” “Reprimanded”. Like, “Be cool about it next time”…?

Rosie O’Donnell Getting New Show On NBC?

The rumor mill concerning Rosie O’Donnell landing a new daytime show heated up Monday when Gossip Cop reported the comedienne is in talks with NBC. Apparently, the stumbling block is that the broadcasting company wants an out clause in case Rosie has a blow up like she did on ABC’s “The View.” As NewsBusters reported on May 23, 2007, O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into quite a fight about the war in Iraq that was so caustic it ended up being Rosie’s last day on the show. She and ABC agreed to terminate her contract days later. With this in mind, according to Gossip Cop, NBC isn’t taking any chances: The show, as we  previously reported , is looking to launch in the fall of 2011, and will be produced by  Robert F. Kennedy ‘s documentary filmmaking daughter,  Rory Kennedy , along with TV veterans  Dick Robertson   and  Scott Carlin . But there’s one sticking point, says our impeccable insider. According to our source, “NBC wants an out if she implodes like she did on ‘The View.'”  If this is correct, one certainly can’t blame NBC for wanting to hedge its bet. On the other hand, if you’re concerned about the behavior of someone you’re entering into a contract with, isn’t the wisest move to NOT put yourself in a position where said individual could end up embarrassing your organization? As such, why is NBC even considering this risk given O’Donnell’s background? Maybe the folks at NBC ought to watch this before they sign:

Jesse James Issues Apology

The day after the story broke that Jesse James was allegedly having an affair with a tattooed model, the West Coast Choppers owner has apologized for his behavior. “It’s because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way. This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them. I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.” He also says that a “vast majority of the allegations” are untrue but um, what vast majority is he talking about? The only allegation that counts is the cheating and infidelity.
