Foo Fighters, Helen Mirren Set For ‘Saturday Night Live’

Elton John also will host ‘SNL’ for the first time in April. By Gil Kaufman Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage It’s hard to think of anyone who could offer advice to someone as critically acclaimed and rewarded as British acting icon Dame Helen Mirren. She is, after all, halfway to her EGOT (winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award), but when the Oscar-winning star of “The Queen” takes the stage for the first time April 9 as the host of “Saturday Night Live,” she’ll have some help from a group of “SNL” veterans. She’ll be joined by six-time musical guests the Foo Fighters , who will be promoting their upcoming album, Wasting Light , which hits stores just a few days later. The Foos are still riding high and in the running of MTV’s Musical March Madness , trying to retain their #1 ranking as they face off against Disturbed in the second round. Vote for your favorite bands now over on the Newsroom blog. Mirren will be promoting her upcoming remake of “Arthur,” which stars Russell Brand as the title character memorably portrayed as a shambling, careless drunk by the late Dudley Moore in the 1981 version. She won’t be the only Oscar winner to grace the “SNL” stage next month either: Fellow British entertainment royalty Sir Elton John will both perform and host the show on April 2, marking his first musical visit to “SNL” since 1982. John will be joined by his musical pal and creative partner Leon Russell, and the pair are expected to highlight cuts from their acclaimed joint album, The Union . John inducted Russell into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last week, and both artists have been enjoying a bit of a musical renaissance thanks to the album. Elizabeth Berkley’s ‘Ask Elizabeth’ Book Tells Girls They’re ‘Not Alone’

‘I think this was, honestly, the perfect time to write this book,’ the ‘Saved by the Bell’ alum tells MTV News. By Patrick Hester, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Elizabeth Berkley’s “Ask Elizabeth” Photo: Rogers & Cowan/Penguin Books Elizabeth Berkley told MTV News it’s “the perfect time” for her latest project, “Ask Elizabeth,” a self-help book for teenage girls that dropped Tuesday (March 21). The book is an expansion of her website of the same name launched back in 2006. Berkley, who has been married to actor Greg Lauren since 2008, started the venture after her husband mentioned the amount of teen girls coming up to her for advice. “I think this was, honestly, the perfect time to write this book, because as we all know, in the media, for years now, people have been talking about the issues with our teen girls, but no one has really been talking about how to help our girls,” the actress told MTV News. “I think now more than ever, there’s a great need. The ability to know that they’re not alone, and other girls are going through it too and how they can help each other.” The “Showgirls” actress also mentions that good relationships between girls are important, saying that “friendship is a really big core part of the book, because I know for girls … friendships run so deep and I know that girls identify themselves some much by the group of friends they hang out with.” When Berkley played Jessie Spano on the ’90s hit “Saved by the Bell,” friendship was a big theme of the show. But while she still gets approached by fans who want her to re-create the now-famous “I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so … scared” scene from “Saved by the Bell,” she said that period of her life isn’t addressed in “Ask Elizabeth.” “I don’t talk about the ‘Saved by the Bell’ time in the book,” she said. “I talk about other periods in my professional life, but more having to do with me now as a woman.” Will you buy Elizabeth Berkeley’s new book?
