F or Jackson State University graduate student LaMonté Pierce what started out as a class project focused on addressing an issue faced by communities in Mississippi led to the creation of a product designed to combat lead poisoning in water, WJTV reported. The JSU graduate student has received impressive offers from big retailers like Walmart which offered to sell CleanStraww in nearly 4,000 stores. https://t.co/0R8Zxwu4Tj — Lanaya Lewis (@LanayaLewis) June 20, 2019 Pierce and other students that he collaborated with decided to use the assignment as an avenue to address water contamination impacting the City of Jackson. They designed a straw that could be used to filter water. Pierce and his classmate Andrew Willis decided to go beyond the project and continue to do research and testing to turn the straw into a product that would be a catalyst in addressing water contamination in communities across the globe. Pierce’s efforts led to the creation of Cleanstraww . The straws are made of non-toxic materials and has a three-step filtering process which divides sediment and particles from water. He utilized a 3-D printer for the creation of the straw. “I saw somewhere they were drinking out of toilets, they were drinking from the river, different things like that. They use simple filters that you can find in everyday filters, but the thing was they did not filter out lead. If we can filter out lead, we can pretty much filter out anything,” he told the news outlet. “Take the responsibility of clean water directly out of the government, state and city officials hands and put it in the hands of the consumers. If you want clean water, here you go.” Several national retailers have expressed interest in selling his product, including Walmart. Pierce hopes that he can find investors for his product to grow his business and create more jobs in Mississippi. Products like Cleanstraww are needed. According to CBS News , lead in America’s water systems has become a growing national crisis. W hen a group of high school seniors from New York learned that their classmate Ilijah Barron would be missing prom due to his ongoing battle with bone cancer, they were determined to make sure that he could experience the special day. Since Barron was unable to attend prom, the Liverpool High School students joined forces and organized a celebration for him at the hospital, Syracuse.com reported. Liverpool senior ball comes to hospital for student battling cancer (video, photos) https://t.co/nxBjn7dsJv — syracuse.com (@syracusedotcom) June 22, 2019 The 19-year-old was diagnosed with a bone cancer called osteosarcoma. This rare disease typically impacts the arm and leg bones. Prior to his diagnosis, Barron played on the varsity football team. Two years ago, he began experiencing severe pain in his legs. Initially many people thought the pain was a result of playing sports, but after several tests doctors discovered a tumor in one of his legs. He was diagnosed in February and has been in and out of the hospital ever since. Barron was planning on going to his senior ball but ended up in the hospital two days before the event. With the help of his mother Nelisha , his friends were able to organize a prom celebration for Barron at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. They all dressed up in gowns and suits and transformed the 11th floor of the hospital into the perfect backdrop for a prom celebration. The group listened to music and ate food from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Barron was moved to tears by the effort made by his friends to make sure that he would be able to experience prom. “I loved it,” he told the news outlet. “It was the most special moment ever. Having everybody there, all my friends. And it was my first high school dance.” Barron is not letting cancer get in the way of what he wants to accomplish. He still supports his school’s football team and has continued to excel academically. “I never sat down and said, ‘Why me?’” he said in a statement , after being named a Young and Amazing award recipient. “There’s no point in that, because it was only going to hurt me in the long run. Staying mentally positive about it came easier.” SEE ALSO: Black Teacher Gives Students Haircuts For Graduation Black-Owned Barbershop Pays Off Debt For Students In Charlotte [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3880863″ overlay=”true”]

According to Racine Police , officers attempted to make contact with West who was on a bike but he fled. Following a short foot pursuit, the officer observed West was armed. 18-year-old #TyreseWest was the man shot and killed early Saturday morning by Mt. Pleasant police. Today, I went with West’s family back to the shooting scene — they have one burning question. Full story at 5:30 on @WISN12News pic.twitter.com/oWRAAGHmVF — Chernéy Amhara (@CherneyAmharaTV) June 16, 2019 The teen reportedly ignored the officer’s commands and the officer “was forced to shoot him.” The officer has been identified as Sgt. Eric Giese, a 12-year veteran of the village’s Police Department. Giese has been a sergeant for a year and a half. He was placed on administrative leave immediately following the incident. On Thursday night, hundreds of people gathered at the corner of Racine and 20th streets to remember Tyrese . Community advocate Tory Lowe gave an emotional speech to the crowd, saying: “We want justice for Tyrese. We want answers, and the only way we’re going to get the answers is if we demand the answers. Tyrese was stopped for riding a bike,” Lowe said. “And he ended up with two shots in his head. How do we know that he got two shots in his head? Because the body was released to the family. This wasn’t told to us. We saw it.” Racine Police is still investigating the case. SMH
Beth Chapman has, once again, been hospitalized for issues related to her cancer. And unfortunately, things aren’t looking so great at this exact moment. Beth, wife of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, was first diagnosed with throat cancer in September of 2017. Doctors classified the cancer as stage two, but just a couple of months after the initial diagnosis, the couple made the statement that the cancer had been completely removed. But, as we all know, cancer is the absolute worst, and last year, it came back. Things seemed to be more serious this time around — in November, she underwent emergency surgery to take care of a blockage in her throat that was obstructing her airway. Duane said at the time that she was “not doing good,” and that doctors feared the cancer had spread from her throat. They later confirmed that the fears were correct, and that the cancer had spread to her lungs. She pulled through that surgery, but she was hospitalized again in April after she experienced some difficulty breathing. Throughout everything, she’s been extremely active on social media , and she’s honestly been an inspiration. She’s been so strong, and she’s shown so much love to Duane, who she says has been there with her every step of the way And although her prognosis isn’t good, she’s chosen to spend whatever time she may have left with her family instead of in hospitals or in hospice. She’s even been working on Dog’s Most Wanted , a new show that touches a bit on Beth’s battle while still, of course, focusing on Dog’s work as a bounty hunter. Sadly though, her work came to a halt yesterday when she was admitted to the ICU at a hospital in Honolulu. At this point, we don’t know too many details about what exactly brought her to the hospital, but her family gave a brief statement to local news site Hawaii News Now. In the statement, they revealed that Beth had been placed in a medically-induced coma, and that they “humbly ask everyone to please pray for Beth.” Additionally, they offered their “sincere thanks to everyone for their prayers throughout Beth’s battle with cancer.” Last night, Duane shared a similar message on Twitter, writing to his followers “Please say your prayers for Beth right now thank you love you.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Beat Cancer When People reached out to their rep for an additional statement, they were told simply that “It’s quite serious.” Here’s hoping that Beth manages to pull through this, and that Duane and the rest of their family are getting plenty of support during this difficult time.
Source: WENN.com / WENN LaVar Ball Speaks On His ESPN Ban & Molly Qerim Situation LaVar Ball was banned from appearing on all ESPN platforms following a controversial response to Molly Qerim when he was a guest at First Take last week. But, unsurprisingly, the famous basketball father doesn’t seem to be affected by the network’s decision. Ball was discussing the recent trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans that ended up sending his son Lonzo to the latter team (along with a few other players) in exchange for Anthony Davis. LaVar was in the middle of a debate with Stephen A. Smith when Molly Qerim asked, “Can we switch gears?” To which the Ball family patriarch responded, “You can switch gears with me anytime.” That response really didn’t sit well with Qerim and after the show, ESPN told LaVar that his comments were inappropriate. Ball later responded through his representative saying that he didn’t mean for it to sound like a sexual remark at all. Now, LaVar is speaking on the situation publicly, and he stands by his statement up to this point. He also has words for Molly. LaVar says the only he’ll hit on Molly is if she ever breaks in his house #lavarball #lonzoball #mollyqerim pic.twitter.com/ogHHb1zFKQ — SLEEPERSALLDAY (@sleepersallday) June 22, 2019 As you can see in the video above, LaVar insists that he doesn’t need ESPN, because he has his own show. He also clarifies that switching gears simply means changing subjects, and the only way he would hit on Qerim is if she broke into his house. Following the segment airing initially, viewers had mixed reactions about the segment and what was said. While some fans insist that what LaVar said was indeed inappropriate, others are saying that there was absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. But regardless of his response and clarification, ESPN still hasn’t wavered on its decision to ban Ball and it doesn’t look like they are planning to lift it anytime soon.
Jim Edmonds snagged an endless array of fly balls smashed deep into centerfield during his very impressive baseball career. But the former Major League baller swears he never snagged Jennifer McFelia Villegas in the way in which she’s claiming. Confused? Let us bring you up to scandalous speed. Earlier this month, a report on AllAbouttheTea.com stated that Edmonds cheated on his wife – former Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan – last spring. This allegation on its own would be disturbing enough, of course. But Meghan was pregnant with the couple’s twins at the time and the report detailed lewd behavior on Edmonds’ part that went way beyond inappropriate boinking. To wit: Jim allegedly went out of his to contact this other woman years after he cheated on his previous wife with her. Jim met her to have sex during road trips back when he was working as a broadcaster. Jim allegedly sent her photos of his penis. Jim allegedly sent her a video of him masturbating ON THE SAME DAY HIS WIFE GAVE BIRTH TO THEIR AFOREMENTIONED TWINS. For the record, Edmonds has denied actually having had a physical affair with the other woman. But he has admitted to using very poor judgment in sending her some X-rated text messages. How does Jennifer McFelia Villegas feel about his response? That question is important because Jennifer McFelia Villegas has outed herself as the mistress with whom Jim did all his cheating. “I want to make a few things very clear — I never set anyone up, blackmailed anyone nor have I attempted to ruin anyone’s family,” she told AllAbouttheTea , adding in further detail: “All my relationships have involved two consenting adults. I made a poor decision to enter a relationship with a married man, and for that I am sorry. “I am no saint. My past includes two DUIs and for that I am deeply remorseful and I’ve learned from my mistakes. “My life today is completely devoted to my relationship with God and my daughter.” Here is a photo of Villegas with Edmonds: According to Us Weekly, meanwhile, the now-ex-wife of a different professional baseball player says Villegas made a point to contact her then-husband and may have also had an affair with him. “This is not just a jersey chaser who is impressed by a potential big name athlete and wants to sleep with him,” this unnamed woman tells the tabloid of Villegas, adding: “It was a whole mastermind manipulation scheme.” Other soures confirm this claim and say that Villegas has made a living/hobby/pastime out of trying to sleep with various athlets. In 2016, four years after a drunk driving arrest, Villegas was accused of leaving “her infant daughter in her car … with no supervision,” according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. Jim and Meghan got married in October of 2014. They’re the parents of two-year-old Aspen and 12-month-old twins Hayes and Hart. The former Bravo personality penned a lengthy post about Jim’s scandal on June 14, admitting she could no longer “trust” her husband of nearly five years. “I’m a simple girl. I wanted a solid marriage. I’m as loyal as they come and I wanted the vows we made when we exchanged our rings to be acted upon. Now my wedding ring symbolizes fraud,” she wrote, continuing as follows: “Marriage is hard, we’ve been through our ups and downs, I’ve talked about it openly. A relationship takes two but it doesn’t take two to cheat.” And then she concluded, clearly heartbroken: “Marriage is a choice on the bad days. And on the good days marriage is easy and beautiful. No one said it would be easy, I just didn’t think it would be this hard.” Meghan also spoke to Us Weekly after Villegas was identified, telling the publication: “I only blame my husband for his actions: he made the choice to betray my trust and jeopardize our marriage. His recklessness also allowed this woman to profit from my heartbreak. But now that her name is out there, she won’t be able to shake down any other families as I rebuild mine.
