B illionaire Robert F. Smith ’s act of kindness has inspired other entrepreneurs across the country to pay it forward. A Black-owned barbershop in North Carolina raised money to help high school seniors pay off their debt so they would be able to graduate, WBTV reported. Season Bennett learned 14 seniors at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte wouldn’t get their diplomas with the rest of their class if the overdue school fees weren’t paid. Bennett, who owns Headlines Barbershop with her husband, got in contact with the staff at East Mecklenburg High School to see if any seniors had outstanding debts that would prevent them from graduating. After learning that 14 students collectively had $4,500 in debt, Bennett decided to raise funds for the teenagers. Many of the fees they had were tied to their participation in the school’s band program. With the help of her local community, she was able to raise enough money to cover the debt. NFL player Thomas Davis was instrumental in helping Bennett and the barbershop reach its goal. “It seems like that’s just basic in our culture. You need to get at least your high school diploma,” Bennett told the news outlet. Several individuals have stepped up to help high school students pay off their debt to walk across the graduation stage and receive their hard-earned diplomas. In May Valerie Castile —the mother of Philando Castile —paid off the lunch debt for students at Robbinsdale Cooper High School so that they could graduate. Outstanding high school lunch debt has become an evolving issue across the country. According to USA Today , 75 percent of school districts in the U.S. had unpaid student meal debt during the 2016-2017 academic year. Music President Pusha T could be headed to court over that very issue. According to legal documents obtained by The Times Daily , both artists are accused of using an unauthorized sample on “Come Back Baby,” a track from Pusha’s 2018 album DAYTONA . FAME Enterprises Inc. filed a lawsuit against the musicians two weeks ago in the Circuit Court of Colbert County, Alabama, claiming “Come Back Baby” features a portion of George Jackson’s 1972 record “I Can’t Do Without You,” which FAME produced and owns. The complaint states that Pusha’s song “includes the following repeated, unauthorized, unlicensed samples from ‘I Can’t Do Without You’”: Never have I been locked up in a world of misery I need you darlin’ to set me free Come back, baby, try me one more time Ooh, baby, I’m ’bout to go out of my mind I can’t— The company goes on to point out that over 35% of “Come Back Baby” is comprised of unlicensed samples of “I Can’t Do Without You.” FAME also says that Jackson’s record is about drug use and illegal drug trade, which is why they would have never agreed to license the song “for such a use under any circumstances.” The plaintiff is suing “for disgorgement of profits, compensatory, consequential, incidental and punitive damages in an amount to be determined by the trier of fact in this case, plus statutory fines, costs, interest and expenses.” UMG Recordings, Def Jam, and G.O.O.D. It’s wedding season, y’all! In the coming weeks, tons and tons of people will get married, and that, of course, includes famous people. As a matter of fact, two of them got hitched just yesterday! Yep, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger are officially husband and wife! We’ll get to some details and reports from the wedding, but first, it feels important to take a quick look back at how their relationship developed. Because it feels like it’s gone pretty fast, right? For the vast majority of Chris’ career, he was with Anna Faris — they met on a film set in 2007, then got married in 2009. They had their son, Jack, in 2012, but unfortunately in 2017 they announced they’d be getting a divorce . Almost a year after that announcement, last June, Chris was spotted with Katherine for the first time when they had a picnic at a public park. Many reports since then have claimed that the two get along so well because they’re both so religious and they place a lot of importance on family. That definitely makes sense, as Chris has been progressively more vocal about being a Christian and how important that is for him in recent years. Whatever they have in common, it’s clear that their feelings for each other where very strong, because they were engaged in January after about seven months of dating. And yesterday, as we’ve said, they were married! A source spoke with People right after the festivities, saying “You can tell today is the happiest day for Katherine. She hasn’t stopped smiling.” “And Chris seems giddy with excitement.” “The venue,” which was in Montecito, California, “is beautiful. Lots of flowers and greenery everywhere. It’s a very romantic setting for a wedding.” The source also said that “the whole family took wedding photos, including her parents Maria [Shriver] and Arnold [Schwarzenegger].” “Everyone just looked so happy.” We’ve been hearing for a bit now how they’d been planning on having a small, intimate wedding, and it seemed like that’s what happened. Notable guests included Katherine’s famous family, of course, as well as Chris’ son and his good friend, Rob Lowe. At this point, there aren’t too many details out about the actual ceremony, but People reports that for the reception, guests enjoyed a live band and cocktails. When it was time for dinner, they offered a “very vibrant menu” using “only local food.” “It’s a lot of fresh vegetables,” another chatty guest reported. “They didn’t want the menu to be too heavy, or rich. It’s more of a light summer menu.” “For dessert, there are lighter options as well like raspberries, blueberries and red currant.” At another point in the evening, Chris gave a speech to thank everyone for coming, and after that, they all danced to “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus. Mackenzie McKee has been in the news often of late, for reasons both disturbing and also intriguing. But the former Teen Mom 3 star and future Teen Mom OG cast member is not making headlines here for allegedly abusing her dog or being chosen to take over for Jenelle Evans . Sadly, she’s doing so instead for providing fans with an update about her sick mother. This past May, Angie Douthit herself told followers that she had tragically suffered a major setback in her battle against cancer. Which is to say: The cancer had returned. At stage four, the most critical stage of cancer, Douthit said the disease had “gone wild” and that the prognosis did not look positive. “I wish I could say that I’m in remission,” Angie said at the time . “Or that the cancer has vanished.” She continued: “But instead this is what we were told. Basically the cancer has gone wild. I have new tumors in my brain. And the old ones are growing… The tumors in both my lungs are progressing and growing again.” Just so, so sad all around. Angie did at least end this message on a hopeful note, saying she had turned herself and her fate over to a higher power. “I pray that I can always have a sound mind and that I can continue speaking until God is finished with me,” she explained. “He is still in complete control. And he greatly loves me.” We truly can’t imagine being in this situation and we salure Angie for being able to have this sort of attide. Now, her daughter is here with an update that is simultaneously inspirational and depressing. “Laying on her back, horrible pneumonia ontop of stage 4 lung cancer spreading through her body, and unable to breath without her oxygen mask,” McKee wrote as a caption to the image above. She added of her brave mother: “She is still staying positive and finding the best in life. She is praying for YOU today if you are dealing with sickness. And she wants to send you a positive message. “I love you momma bear. Keep shining @angiedouthit.” Douthit also shared the same photo on her Instagram page, along with a longer update on her health. “Having pneumonia is about as much fun as cleaning toilets. But, in the end the toilets shine and smell clean,” Douthit wrote. “I too will come out of this with clean lungs and a shining smile. I’m still on oxygen. But with all the meds I’m getting, I’m sleeping a lot! My children have visited me and I can’t even wake up sometimes to tell them I love them. And, poor Brad is being a trooper.” Concluded Angie, who has lung and brain cancer: “I know hospitals are boring and he’d rather be fishing, but he chooses to be right here with me. I had also got this crazy case of thrush. “I thought only new born babies got it. But apparently it’s a thing for chemo and cancer patients. So imagine, your mouth and throat hurts, but you have to cough because u have pneumonia. “Not cool. I have to laugh. I mean it’s comical. The only thing that tastes good is jello.” Earlier this month, McKee was cast as a recurring player on the next season of Teen Mom OG. Last year was pretty rough for Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra. Like, so rough that they very nearly got divorced. But 2019 has been a whole new chapter for them — they've been working on their new house, they're entering into their 10th year on Teen Mom, and of course they just welcomed their sweet little baby Vaeda a few months ago! Things seem entirely different than they were back then. But Catelynn and Tyler still struggling behind the scenes? Judging by this new statement from Cate … yeah, things don't sound too great. Could that divorce finally be happening?! 1. The Baltierras In discussing the problems between Catelynn and Tyler, where do we even begin? 2. A Look Back After all, they’ve been together since they were 12 years old, they had a child together a few years after that that they placed for adoption because her mother and his father, who had married each other, were abusive, neglectful addicts. 3. Man Oh Man Yeah, they’ve been through a lot, but they pushed through it, and in 2015, she got pregnant again with darling little Nova. It should have been a blissful, beautiful time for them, and we’re sure much of it was, but unfortunately, Catelynn developed severe postpartum depression. 4. Getting Help She dealt with it on her own for over a year before heading out to spend a few weeks at a treatment center in Arizona — and even then, she still struggled with depression after coming home. 5. Big Trouble? Tyler tried his best to be understanding and supportive, but as we saw on Teen Mom OG, after a while he began to feel like he was part of her problem. They really, really struggled for at least two years after Nova was born. 6. Oh No By the fall of 2017 though, they were in a better place, and they thought the time would be right to try for another baby. She did get pregnant quickly, but she suffered a miscarriage.
