Barbara Walters will retire from the world of journalism next year, Deadline reports, confirming that the iconic reporter will hang up her microphone in May of 2014. The announcement will reportedly come long before that, as ABC will set Walters up with many sendoffs and retrospectives before the big day arrives. Walters became the first female to co-host a news program when she got behind the Today desk in 1974. She was then the first co-anchor of a network evening news broadcast when she joined ABC Evening News in 1976 and she proceeded to anchor 20/20 for two decades. Two more damaging pieces of information have come out regarding Justin Bieber and his confrontation yesterday with a neighbor angry over the singer’s reckless driving habits. FIRST, an eyewitness has come forward and confirmed previous reports: Bieber did, in fact, spit in the face of his 47-year old antagonist. The account stems from a landscaper who was working at the home across the street when this argument took place. He relayed to his boss that Bieber hocked the loogie, while other neighbors tell TMZ that there was no history of any kind between the man and Justin. The former was simply irritated because JB had been speeding around that morning in her Ferrari. SECOND, the accuser told authorities that Bieber had to be restrained by his bodyguard after the angry words were exchanged and after the alleged saliva was fired. While we cannot confirm or deny any version of the event, it does sound eerily similar to Bieber’s explosion at a photographer in London who dared to get in his way.

During perhaps the roughest period of his life, Justin Bieber has turned to his ex-girlfriend for comfort. How else to interpret the fact that sources confirm to E! News that the singer stopped by Selena Gomez’s house yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m., prior to hopping on a plane and continuing his tour in Europe? Bieber reportedly stayed for about an hour. It’s unclear what he discussed with Gomez, of course, but there’s plenty going on with Justin these days. He’s been accused of spitting in a man’s face and of driving recklessly around his neighborhood. He’s been under fire for randomly not wearing a shirt in public places and he fought a photographer in London and he passed out on stage during a concert. And just when have all these incidents taken place? Soon AFTER he broke up with Selena. Coincidence? Perhaps. But Bieber paying his ex a visit yesterday must lend some credence to the belief that she’s a steadying influence in his life. Elsewhere, TMZ reports that the Los Angeles County D.A.’s Office will look closely into the battery allegations against Bieber. Authorities say the case will be taken very “seriously” and will definitely be referred to the District Attorney for review once the investigation is complete. Prosecution against Bieber is possible.

Did Tiger Woods steal his new girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn, out from underneath Kris Humphries of all people? A new report in Us Weekly implies exactly that. Yes, if this is to be believed, Liger was almost Lump. The new issue of the celebrity news magazine claims that Kris Humphries , Kim Kardashian’s infamous ex, was very much in the picture with Vonn romantically. That is, until Tiger Woods came along. “Tiger wasn’t her only suitor,” the mag says, quoting a source close to Vonn. “Bachelor No. 2 was none other than Kim Kardashian’s ex Kris Humphries.” Lindsey Vonn and Humphries are both from Minnesota and have a lot in common … but there was never any report of them being together at any point. In any case, Vonn was warned about the perils of getting involved with Tiger, but their friendship developed over several months and then turned romantic. Earlier this month, she announced that she is in fact dating Tiger Woods . Woods, who recently reclaimed his title as the world’s #1 golfer, is clearly in a good place these days, both on and off the golf course. But will that last? Not if a second report is to believed. Star alleges that Lindsey and Kris are still hitting it – behind Tiger’s back! After their infamous Facebook PDA too! A fake romance that fizzled and was then rekindled? That’s a new one. But Bieber courted plenty of controversy in the weeks leading up to this brush with the law, such as when he was photographed shirtless on the street in London (“I still had part of my tour wardrobe on and was rushing into my hotel,” he says). And then he was caught in a gas mask while shopping. (“I wanted to hide my face from all the cameras,” he explains. “They got it as a joke. My friends and I like messing around.”) And of course he collapsed onn stage in England. (“I passed out from the flu. The worst thing to me is disappointing my fans – we only had five songs left – so they gave me oxygen, and I decided to finish the show and then go to the hospital. The show must go on.”) Overall, though, JB wants everyone to know that his heart is in the right place: “I’m young and I make mistakes. That’s part of growing up… I’m young and I want to have fun.
