Miley Cyrus and Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne covered themselves in tinsel and glitter for a trippy cover of the Beatles’ ‘Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds’ at Sunday night’s (May 18) 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
Sure, Rihanna laughed at Ariana Grande during a recent performance, but that embarrassing incident aside, Ariana has been crushing it career-wise lately and it was announced today that she’ll be performing her hit song “Problem” along with Iggy Azalea at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Ariana is a natural choice for the show, as “Problem” debuted at number one on Billboard ‘s digital songs chart and is currently number three on the magazine’s Hot 100. The first single from Grande’s forthcoming studio album has been such a success that even a teaser for the “Problem” video became a viral sensation online. Ariana and Iggy join a list of previously announced performers that includes Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Jason Derulo. In addition to performing at the show, Ariana is nominated for Top New Artist. No slouch in her own right, Azalea is scheduled to perform her solo hit “Fancy.” The success of that single makes Iggy the first female rapper with two songs concurrently in the Billboard Top 5. Not too shabby. We get the feeling you’ll be hearing a lot of these two this summer. The BBMAs will be held on Sunday, May 18th. It’s official: we have our first ridiculous rumor of the new year. According to ThyBlackMan(dot)com, Nicki Minaj may be pregnant. And the father may be… Lil Wayne! There’s little evidence to back up this claim: no sources on record, no photographs, no quotes of any kind in fact. The site simply says it may be true, but the rumor mill is churning at warp speed around the Internet with this possibility. Why might the report be accurate? Well… Lil Wayne does have four kids by four different women. And Minaj Twerked all over her rapping pal at the Billboard Music Awards. These two also simulated sex in the “High School” music video. So could they have done the real thing recently? Without a condom or birth control? They certainly could have, people. They certainly could have.

On the music side, however, these scandals did little to slow Bieber down. He toured the globe to packed stadiums. He blew up the Internet with #MusicMondays this fall. His “Journals” compilation sold very well on iTunes. But Justin Bieber clearly suffered a major hit to his reputation in 2013. Can he resurrect his good boy image in 2014? Does he even want to? Academy Award winner Joan Fontaine, a legendary Hollywood leading lady from what many consider the Golden Age of film, has died at age 96. Fontaine died in her sleep Sunday morning at her home in Carmel, Calif., which overlooked the Pacific Ocean, after having been in failing health. Noel Beutel, a longtime friend of the late actress, told Reuters, “She was an amazing woman, she had such a big heart and she will be missed.” Among Fontaine’s most memorable films in a career spanning four decades and some four dozen films was the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Suspicion. Co-starring Cary Grant, that movie earned Joan Fontaine the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1942, beating out her sister in the competition. That was a recurring theme. In addition to acting, her career was marked by a storied and bitter rivalry with her older sister, Olivia de Havilland. Nominated that year for Hold Back the Dawn, de Havilland went on to win Academy Awards for 1946’s To Each His Own and 1969’s The Heiress . Now aged 97, de Havilland resides in Paris. Her wins established the sisters as the only two siblings ever to both win Academy Awards for acting. Fontaine also earned Oscar nominations for her star turns in Hitchcock’s 1940 American debut, Rebecca , and for 1943’s The Constant Nymph . Fontaine appeared mousy and innocent in her early movies but later carefully selected her roles and went on to play worldly, sophisticated women/ She wrote in her 1978 autobiography, “No Bed of Roses,” that her sickly condition as a child actually helped develop her acting skills over the years. In her sickbed fantasies – pillow dreams, she called them – Joan Fontaine created “endless scenes of romance, passion, jealousy, rejection, death. De Havilland, for her part, reportedly saw her younger sister as a sneaky attention-getter, melodramatically playing sick and trying to outdo her. According to various media reports, the sisters were said to have stopped speaking altogether in 1975 after their mother passed away from cancer. Fontaine said that de Havilland had not invited her to the memorial service but her sister claimed Fontaine had said she was too busy to attend. “I married first, won the Oscar before Olivia did, and if I die first, she’ll undoubtedly be livid because I beat her to it,” Fontaine was quoted as saying.
